Brenda, collies and spaniels are very different when it comes to loud noises like fire works and gun fire. Spaniels are gun dogs, and introduced correctly, love the smell and sound of gun powder (the principle ingredient in fire works) detonation. The only thing you have to worry about is that she will sense your fear and feel it, too.
Take Callie to the fire works show, but stay back as far as you can and still enjoy it. Let her sense the family's happiness, and just as the first explosion booms, her favorite treat (taken from the pocket full of them that you have) should pass her lips. You can tease her with it for a little while before the boom. Repeat this four or five times before you allow a lapse of two seconds before the treat. Gradually increase the time interval. All the time Callie must sense that the family is happy (not jumping up and down excited, but calmly happy), and except for being treated, she is being ignored. Let her see that you enjoy the show.
If at all possible before the show, desensitize her to loud noises. If she startles, do not comfort her. You need to act as if all is normal.
If you are afraid for her, she will only sense your fear and assume the noise scared you. too.
You may also want to test the power of treats before the event. They use little bits of dried liver in dog shows. My dogs would please for cheese (cheddar). A plastic baggy is helpful, if you choose one of these two treats.
Callie will do fine. She was bred a gun dog, and they love the boom.

Gday mate, sorry to hear your not feeling up to scratch. As they say, 'tis the season'! The weather here is changing on a daily basis. Of course, we are heading for summer, but we are still experiencing the odd day where we rug up and put the heaters on! That can't be good for the health.
I think we are passing this virus between us. Don't wish it on me though, at least not until after Sunday. That's when the Melbourne Sudokuists meet up for the Chrissy lunch. After that, I've got a few days spare so I'm available to take the virus then.
