I like that TOPP Heidi!
Mum was a little more awake today but no real recognition at all. I keep having 'all about me' moments where I want so much for her to recognise me but I tell myself that she's recognised me for all of my life except for the last week or so. I should be able to handle that. She's now on thickened fluids - got her to drink a little but she would not eat (food is mushed up also). Sigh...

Cyn, huge hugs.

Well, I am off to bed. Remaining cigarettes have been ripped into little pieces and tossed in the garbage. Wish me luck.

You beautiful, beautiful people. I am not sure who organised it but I just got a wonderful arrangement of roses from you all. My cyber friends on SA. It reduced me to tears that you would do that for me. I have taken a photo and will post it later. Sharon's school contacted me this morning about putting a tribute in the local paper, so I had to do a photo, some washing, a friend called in etc. It has been a busy morning and I really must get to the shops.
My heartfelt thanks one again.

June, special hugs to you today. Hope you enjoy the roses.

CynB, I know how hard not having a parent know you can be. I watched my hubby strugge with that with his Mom. She tried to hide that she did not know us, with a HI, come on in, how are you doing? I am so glad you came to see me. Where are you living now?

But she would give it away with one question. she always called Al and his brother "the boys" and she would always ask, " have you seen the boys?" First time it happened, he had to walk out of the room. It made visits very hard and infrequent. He never did manage to handle it.

A friend's Mom thought her son was her long dead husband, and always called him by his dad's name, that really was hard on him too.

So thankful for AC tonight. The dew point is so high, walking outside is like walking under water. Our windows are fogging on the outside. They say we are in for a week of the hottest weather this summer. YUCK.

Bedtime for me, so leaving hugs for each of you, with extras. Till tomorrow.

MizT - Mum's been like that a lot, calling us by someone else in the family's name but always knowing we were HER family. Today - absolutely no recognition at all. I was a stranger to her. My Dad knew us until the day he passed away, although he didn't remember much else. I suppose that's why I'm finding it so hard to take. I doubt that she'll last much longer - days/weeks is my guess. It is 1 year on Thursday 4/8 since Col's mother left us.

Wow, Rolanda, if they're coming back they must be interested.
Our friends up around the corner from us have had their house on the market since March. Finally got a contract on it with a 6 week settlement date. It took 5 weeks to go unconditional last Wednesday, they have to be out by this Thursday. Guess what I'm doing tomorrow?? Helping them pack.

Rolanda, do I understand correctly tat you have to leave your house when someone is coming to view it?
Here it is normal for you to be present and even for you to do the showing round, unless you know you will not be available or have already moved out of the house. It is one of the things I find stupid about the fees we have to pay for estate agents 'selling' our houses, we normally do the selling, they do the advertising and brochure printing.
Hope everything goes well on this viewing and they put an offer in on your house Rolanda.

Yes, Brenda, usually you are not there..
The Real Estate People do the showing, and get paid for doing so, they take a percentage of what the house sells for.
They do the advertising, they do the printing...

Our estate agents get paid a percentage of the selling price too, or sometimes you can get a fixed price deal. This is one of the reasons people over here do not like estate agents as they don't seem to do much to earn their fee.
I bet next door will miss you when you move Rolanda.

Rolanda - I'll help you with the packing, no worries. You'll just have to pay my airfare. OK?
My sister finally got some answers on why Mum has gone like this. The doctor thinks she is having many little TIA's every day and that is why she has gone downhill so fast. Chances are she'll never recognise us again. Also, chances are (more like a probability) that she will have a larger stroke that will end it.

Our real estate agents get a percentage and still charge for every photo, newspaper ad, etc that they do... you pay for the auction whether it sells or not, the whole thing is a bloody rip off!

That is where ours differ, you only pay if it sells and the photo's etc are included in the price.
I'll have missed Heidi, but hope the epidural is a really bad one.

Hi All..
Heidi...hope it was a bad epidural and last for a really long time!
CynB, When I was faced with a similar situation (Close aunties, not Mom)I realized that I was visiting them for ME...not THEM so much. Sure, I wanted the staff to be aware that family was always there, but I saw MY family fading and was trying to hold on as long as possible...that ,I think is why it hurts so much.
Know that the love and things done in the past mean that love still prevails deep down. The fact that your mum isn't
aware of it now doesn't mean it didn't happen! Have no regrets, YOU are aware that you were able to love and will continue to long after the end comes, and you release her into the loving arms of GOD! May HIS peace walk with you!♥
June... Enjoy the flowers...We all wish we could do more! ♥
Theresa...Luck of course is wished...Yes, You can and will succeed!♥
Rolanda....Hoping all goes well and quickly with the sale.
Have a great day/night everyone, and a better one tomorrow!

I'm back. It was NOT a really bad epidural. I'm hoping that he did a great job numbing it so it didn't feel as bad as it was. We're trying to cut back to every 4 months, so the next one isn't until November 21st.

Heidi, sorry it wasn't a bad epidural. I will hope for the best.
Theresa, I know it won't be easy, but know that we are all here for you. You are doing the right thing by quitting.
Rolanda, hope someone makes an offer soon.
Cyn, sorry about your mum. I went through that with my grandmother. It is not easy when they don't recognize you.

Tami, I have just been talking to Susan (Richard's cousin) who has been talking to her sister in Dominica. They are expecting a tropical storm at any time, Susan said it may turn into a hurricane by the time it reaches you in Florida.

Brenda, it is hurricane season here, I am not surprised another is headed this way. I did a weather look, this new one is not yet a named tropical storm, not even a tropical depression, just an area of weather that could be sooner or later. Too early to say at the moment.

Just had a tropical storm hit south Texas, and they were welcoming it, they needed the rain that badly. Tropical Storm Don sort of fizzled out I see, not much rain for Texas after all.

June, sorry you were that tired, but so glad you got a good night's rest. I guess it is OK to be up at 4:30 if you went to bed at 7:30. My Grandmother called that early to bed going to bed with the chickens.
