Suzy, I had an epidural when I had Mitchell. I was confined to bed after that. The epidural was done somewhere around 5 am and he was born at 6:30 pm. I was thankful for the epidural as he was a c-section and I was able to be awake. They fed stronger drugs through the epidural at that time. I am scared of needles and was scared of the thought of an epidural but when the pain started, I changed my mind quickly. Dylan ended up being a natural birth. I requested the epidural but was not dilated enough. I was given something to take the edge off. The next time they checked, it was too late and he was ready to be born. He was born natural which is not common after a c-section.

Suzy, my hubby was with me the whole time with Mitchell, and Dylan. My mom was there during labor with Mitchell and had a hard time seeing me in pain. First contraction, she ran from the room and came back a few minutes later. She was fine after the epidural. Hubby was in the room with me when they did the c-section. He would not have been allowed if not for that. When Dylan came, mom had to pick up Mitchell from daycare. Did I mention that my mom took two weeks maternity leave when both my boys were born???

The epidural pain blocks I get are different, since I'm not in labor and the epidural is given into damaged tissue.

Good Maen TTT, Rolamda, Heidi and anyone on pg. 286. Thanks for the coffee Tami!
Heidi: Are you scheduled for an epidural? How long does it last after you get it??
I ran out of my Ambien (sleep med) yesterday. Have to get Dr's ok for refill. Needless to say, rough night sleep. I must have gotten SOME sleep. I had a dream about trying on formal-style dresses in a consignment shop.
Sun is just starting to peek over the mountains in the backyard. Supposed to be clear & cold today.

Good Morning Everyone everywhere...Rainy and grey, but temps are still mild...expecting a change soon however.
All is well here....and quiet too...Erza doesn't seem to cry much except to let us know when he's wet and hungry...which is pretty often, but gets addressed very quickly too...
Brenda, thanks for the reminder to not overdo and to let gd handle most...a good reminder always. GD seems to be doing very well in the mothering department and the baby is nursing so not a whole lot I can do there except when bottles are ready ..lol.
Suzy, I too had an epidural and was subjected to bed rest....and thankful for it...but that was many moons ago, and no problems resulted. Its hard watching the moms suffer the labor pains I imagine since no one wants bad things to hurt their children, but focus on the great outcome, if possible, may help. I never saw that since I came only when everything was all over. Our babies were mostly born in the middle of the night and I was spared that horror fortunately.
To MizT and Theresa, Heidi and others who have been beset by undo pain...may the pain pass by and allow just the sweet pain free period take over soon. Its no fun when all you can think of is that you hurt..so sending cyber sunshine to speed the pain away.
Rolanda, I hope your mum finds peace with staying with your brother and sister-in-law, but I can't help wondering if they really know what they are getting into...you have walked that road, yet they seem not to have heard your advice.. I wish all involved well and hope for peace and good fortune.

Good morning all - wet coolish day here with a very light dusting of the white stuff on the ground. We have been lucky so far with the weather.

Julie, when I was watching the news last evening they had an item on entertainment news that made me think of you. Hope you enjoy it. If you can't get access, just type in cello wars and follow the video for Star Wars.

Just checked FB and my brother has found me - not someone I wanted to hear from!!!! He wants to be my friend. I clicked on "not now" - I think I'll take a year or so to think about it. I haven't seen him in about 10 years. The picture he posted on FB is not flattering - he looks just like my father. My father and my brother were like two peas in a very dysfunctional pod. Wouldn't it be nice if we could pick our relatives???

Immediately after my last post, our phone and computer service was turned off again. One guess as to why. Just got it back 5 minutes ago.

Had a delightful visit with the male puppy's owner. All 4 pups were very playful and affectionate. She has named her puppy "Shiloh".

Dear Santa,

I don't want much for Christmas, I just want the person reading this to be happy.

Friends are the fruit cake of life.....sometimes sweet .....sometimes a little dry..... sometimes soaked in alcohol :) ..... and always a little nutty..... but mixed all together, we cook up something really special!

Good morning all
Theresa - I wish you could visit more often.
Heidi - I like Shiloh but I suppose you're used to Gunner by now.
Re Epidurals - my kids were natural births, nothing else was offered in those days. Caesarians were only for emergencies. Karin had a caesar for both of hers, and Andrews girls were all born naturally. Suzy - I was supposed to be second support for Karin when she had Lachlan and was dreading it - after several hours the doc decided to do a caesar - I was so relieved - her hubby was allowed in to watch, I wasn't, thank goodness.

Well the news about Kaitlyn has taken a turn for the worse! She went home on Monday and had a stroke on Tuesday morning. At this stage he doesn't know how bad - but whatever, this is not going to be a quick fix, is it? We all know what Suzy has been through.
I told him he'll need a lot of strength of character to help her through this.

I didn't get used to Gunner because 2 weeks ago, his buyer told me she was going to change his name. So I never got in the habit of calling him anything. From the way he reacted, I think he likes the name Shiloh. He's already responding to it.

Poor Kaitlyn. She's having a horrific time of it. I'm glad Andrew is there, for her sake. But it has to be so stressful for him, too.
This year can't end too soon for any of us. The law of averages says we're all way overdue for a lot of good stuff to happen. I'm hoping that 2012 will be that year.

Tomorrow morning we meet with my Pain Management doc. An epidural is scheduled, but I don't think that I'll be getting one. We'll be discussing surgery instead. IH will be coming along to talk to the doc as well. He needs to know what I'll be facing and what he will need to do.

Then, when I get back from the doc's, the dealership will be delivering my new tractor. I got sick and tired of the tractor I had, which spent more time in the repair shop than it did here. Right now it's in their shop in many, many pieces and won't be repaired for over a week yet. I traded it in to them ($25,000.00 trade in value!!) and paid some more money and got a better tractor. The cows and horses are out of hay and need to be fed as soon as I get it tomorrow. There is no way that they or I could wait another week.

Morning all,
I'm having trouble with my computer this morning so am about to do a defrag. That means I may not be back until tomorrow.

Cyn, so sorry to hear about Kaitlyn. I hope her stroke was like mine - no rehab needed. I still have a bit of a word stutter but only if I'm tired or stressed. When she's home, please feel free to give her my email if she wants to chat about it.

I missed Theresa!!

Big day here too Tami. Carols in the Park rehearsal from 5 to 7, music showcase at school from 7-9 and she's supposed to be there at 6.

Now I have further, better news. Kaitlyn has just phoned Andrew, she is at home. It was not a stroke although that was what was suspected when the ambulance came, it was a small brain bleed, still a problem if not checked. She has been allowed to go home provided she rests up for the next week - no exertion, no outings nothing. So I won't meet her this weekend!
This is what happens when the news is coming from a 15 yo anxious about her Mum!

Good Evening, Everyone!

Rolanda, why is your Mum being moved from the Transition Care Facility? Isn't living with your B and SIL less assistance - barely more than being at home alone? At the end of January, it would seem that there would need to be another transition. Keeping fingers crossed that it's not to your home. I hope all of this works out for your Mum!

Brenda, say it isn't so! There's already snow near you!

Tami, thanks for explaining the mystery of Heidi's kennel name via PM! I hope you had an excellent day!

Heidi, I hope your mouth is feeling better! Are you still eating popsicles? I hope you get what you want for Christmas!

Broni, I hope your fainting spells are a thing of the past! Please take care of yourself!

Mama, I hope you don't need to take on much of the care of little Ezra Alexander! Some role modeling is certainly acceptable, though!

Suzy, taking photos of the art work sounds like a very sensible thing! I have also seen picture frames with a hinge that you open up and store multiple artworks that can be rotated in and out of the front.

Fingers (but nothing else) crossed for Alie! I hope she can get through all of her performances! What a busy week!

Good luck as the support person for Dana and baby in a few months, Suzy! We know you'll be great! (You may get to hold the baby before Dana does.)

Suzy, I didn't have an epidural for babies - went the natural route. However, I had one for my gall bladder removal, I think. Saying that you are paralyzed from the waist down isn't accurate. Did the nurse think she needed to "dumb down" her explanation since Dana is young? There is less feeling. My D had one with her first, and her contraction slowed down considerably - almost stopped - and they ended up giving her something (possibly Pitocin?) to get the contractions going again.

Wow, Judy! I'm impressed! Home births for all four! People acted like I was being an "Earth Mother" for having no pain killers, but I was happy to be at the hospital!

I am extremely frustrated! I had comments for most of the posts on this page and was about to submit, but hubby "had to send an email before he forgot." Wouldn't you know that the computer would shut down after he posted. Comments are somewhere in cyber space. It's too late and I'm too tired to try to redo them, so I'll say, "Good Night!" But first, here are many positive vibes and thoughts, prayers, and {{{{{{HUGS}}}}} for all to share! I'll "see" you all tomorrow!

Cyn when I read your report on Kaitlyn having had a strokeI thought not more bad news. So pleased that it was JUST a bleed in the brain, bad enough especially when she has just had surgery but not quite as bad as a stroke. Give her my best wishes for a complete recovery.
Heidi, I hope your new tractor will be a lot more reliable than the old one. I was going to add IH but really he is reliable... to mess things up.
Snow hasn't arrived for me just extremely cold (for here) or iis it just me getting old and not able to stand the cold now.
Suzy, any news on how Alie did at the audition yet?

A busy day finishing with Laura's physi party and concert/awards.
So pleased Kaitlyn did not have a stroke. Hope the bleeding does not cause any problems.
I was Sharon's support and they rested Laura on Sharon's chest while I cut the cord.
Enjoy the new tractor Heidi (and do not let 'anyone else' near it!
Rolanda, I can understand you not being very happy.

Thank you for reminding me Brenda, they said at the showcase tonight that the students selected had just been posted. I have to check the website, if I can remember where it is... She didn't make it so I was able to tell her that I was told it really sucks. She says she's okay with not getting in.

I've just posted the song she wrote just a few weeks ago. I love that I know how to shrink them down so I can upload them in a few minutes now...

http://youtu.be/QHzwHwIdNBc

She performed this tonight at the showcase.

June, when I was sitting there tonight I realised that around the time Alie finishes doing these showcases etc, Natahlia will be almost ready to start and I'll be on grandparent duty. I hope Laura had a really good time!
