Time Well Spent

See tiny fingers and tiny toes,
Bright baby eyes, cute baby nose;
Hear baby gurgles and baby sighs,
As Mom and Grandma sing lullabies.

Life is changed, but that's okay;
It's fun to spend glad hours each day,
Taking time for all the good
That comes along with parenthood.

Have a look in Suzy's friends or family lists - there is a page for Nathalia!
And I think this will take us over the page so I will repeat what I just posted on FB -

Grandchildren fill a space in your heart you never knew was empty!

My stupid family have no idea of facebook etiquette. Dana wanted to be the one to announce it there, and she didn't want to do it until she was home so she didn't get visits from the people she is trying to cut out of her life. They won't come here.

Remember last night I said that I was watching cow #189? She had a lovely bull calf just before midnight. I'm now predicting cows #147 and 164 will be calving in the next 24 hours.

Hi, All! Busy day on SA, I see! I'm reading page 348, with 2 more pages to go!

Welcome home, Brenda!

Lots of waiting on page 348, but I know from the other site that the wee one has arrived. Now I need to read for the particulars!

Judy, good for you and your sister! You have accomplished a lot! And a good visit with you Mum as well!

June, congratulations on being elected president. I hope it doesn't add a lot of work!

Let's see what page 349 brings.

Heidi, congrats on the surprise new bull calf!

MizT, I hope your trip to Birmingham was enjoyable!

And now I see the particulars! Suzy posted just 10 minutes after I posted just before noon! Congrats, Suzy and Dana! Welcome, little one! I hope both Suzy and Dana got some sleep before the baby arrived!

Suzy, I also apologize for mentioning things on facebook! Just a few minutes ago I read your announcement here, and have just read on page 350 that you didn't want it mentioned on fb. Can you ask the doctor to post NO VISITORS other than family? It's the naughty room for me!

Suzanne, good luck with selling the house! Was Darrell expecting a transfer? I was thinking that you were planning to move to the Seattle area. (But then, I'm quite tired and have been know to get things confused, even when I'm not tired.)

Heidi, congrats on yet another bull calf! I'm wondering what the next 2 will be. The law of averages would say they'll be heifer calves.

Tami, I sent a couple of post cards today. I'm assuming you'll have them the end of the week.

And now, I really must head to bed. {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, , positive thoughts, healing vibes and prayers for everyone! Good Night!

Evening all,
Still only half awake. My mother beat you all with her announcement and it's my fault for not saying it up front. She has actually been surprised by the number of people wishing her well, and I think happy. The endless parade of visitors today on the other hand.... I'm really hoping that is over and she is having some time alone with her baby right now. Text message confirmation, baby is finally fed, but won't sleep. I might end up going up again for half an hour or so..

Nathalia is a very normal baby, just tiny size. 00000 is almost small enough for her! It's hard to even find 5 0s. The ads for those have them on baby born dolls.

She is doing lots of p33ing and p00ping, burping, feeding, throwing up.. you know, what babies do. She is a good sleeper so far. Hubby was making silly noises at her trying to wake her up - nothing!

Once Dana saw all of the posts on FB (she called me all frantic when she saw her first one - from a family member who had seen my mother's post and tagged Dana in his - which ensured all of her friends could see it) she gave in and posted a photo - if you can see it, Natahlia is wrapped in the blanket Brenda knitted and one of her beanies. It was actually the second one of Brenda's she had worn that day, the first one is in the wash with baby fluids on it.

Thank you June. I have no plans to go out on my birthday, we have just come back from holiday and eating out all the time. We will go out next week with our son for his birthday and combine the two. It saves money that way too

Another day away from home today, doctors appointment today. I have a couple of things I want to look for when I am out.

did I say that yesterday we looked at the retirement apartments in Birmingham? I actually got to see one, NOT offered by management, but by a lovely couple we spoke with on our way out from turning in application. She said she remembered how much she wanted to see inside one during the YEAR they had to wait to get in. Oh how I hope it is not a year for me, but we will see.

There are many more public areas for gathering with other residents than I ever expeted. Every elevator loby, both buidings, have a small sofa or a couple of chairs, a big picture window for sunshine, . I found several other larger sitting rooms, too. At least 2 huge activity rooms, there are multiple things planned for each day, a bus goes shopping at least 3 times a week. With transportation provided, I can even take my pain meds and feel like going, without worrying about impaired driving. There is a library, a beauty shop, a covered patio with a small back garden with shrubs and trees. In summer, residents bring containers of flowers, and some have tiny plots for planting flowers. One resicent found a tiny strip between a wall and the alley and plants a few vegetables even. Lots of activities and parties in the facility too, so you do not have to go out. OH, there is a theater next door, the activities director is involved with the productions there. she has arranged for residents to go to dress rehearsals for FREE, so comes with free entertainment, how nice. The apartments are tiny, but the facility is huge, so no need to fear cabin fever or boredome, always something to do, somewhere to go and not a worry about the weather.

forgot to say, there is a city park just beyond the theater, really close, for sunny days outside. There are many events in the park, planned by neighborhood. I think this is the park that puts on Do Dah Day, a parade of pets with walkers and sometimes dogs in costumes, pulling decorated wagons or carts. over the years this has become very big, thousands of people coming to watch, hundreds of people parading. Proceeds going to a pet shelter.

Through last year, there was a Jambalaya festival there, with 50 or 60 businesses cooking up thier version of Jambolaya, raising money for the retirement complex, for all the activities they provice, the bus, subsidized noon meals for low income residents, and other services. It has over grown the park, will go to a much larger facility this year.

Yes, you can choose to take noon meals with the group, for a fee. I have heard it is quite reasonable, but not a number yet. There is a social worker available for residents, to assist in finding any and all help available. Did I say I hope I do not have to wait a year?

Everyone was so friendly, not at all like another similar facility I was familiar with. Everyone spoke to us, and far more than just a polite "hello and goodbye".

It sounds very nice, MizT. But now that I know you, you don't seem old enough to go into a retirement facility. I know, I know. Health issues.

I'm SO glad that I'm not on Facebook. I have such a bad case of foot-in-mouth disease that I would have been the culprit.

The two cows who are close are both elderly. #147 has only had 1 heifer calf and 11 bull calves. I'm expecting another bull calf from her. #164 has had a few more heifers than bulls. She could have either one.

I need to go out and do a cow check, but my gout is acting up this morning. The cows will be on their own for a little longer. Fortunately, Rede is a calving ease bull. We have never had to pull a calf sired by him.

Morning all,
I've had a good night's sleep but still don't have my brain back.

Dana has forgiven everyone (she was only ever actually mad at one person - foster uncle, I have told her she can unfriend him as she has never met him, (I hope never will) but she doesn't want to be mean) and has moved on to enjoying the posts. I'm glad she took that approach as once it's out there!!

I have read but can't remember much. I do remember that the facility MizT visited sounds fantastic!! First hand reviews from a resident helps too.. I hope you don't have to wait a year to get in!

Gail, it was my first birth-other-than-my-own and I would say 'messy' describes it best. Dana was on the blasted monitors right until the very end so was miserably uncomfortable. She was exhausted so was falling asleep between contractions, which had the effect of making her feel like she was having one very long contraction... When they happened she would sometimes shake like she was having a seizure. Pretty scary for me, but I found leaning over her (which meant I was kinda half lying on her cause I'm short) and massaging her back with the duviwhat they provide helped her to stop shaking quicker.

That went on for a few hours and then, around 4.30 she suddenly sat up, ripped the monitor straps off - dragged her IV across the room (unplugged it in the process) and ran to the bathroom - I'VE GOT TO GO! Next she screamed out - I WANT TO GO AND I CAN'T. That's when I twigged and pressed the nurse button. I started to go to Dana but the nurses beat me to her. When they came in I had said 'she's trying to have her baby on the toilet'..

I then texted Don 'happening' while the nurses were getting her back on the bed. That was 4.32. They had to break her water for her and Natahlia was born in 3 pushes, she was born at 4.42. Dana got to hold her while I cut the cord, then I texted Don at 4.49. He was at the hospital by about 5.15.
