Nola, loving thoughts to you and your sister. One day, when you see she is having a hard day, ask for her permission to break down with the promise that it will be a one-off. You both need to talk about the elephant in the room. That is what I found with hubby anyway. Once we had both broken down and talked about our fears, it seemed to make it easier to get on with the day to day instead of walking around on eggshells pretending we were strong and handling everything fine.

Gail, you and Scott are always on my mind. I think you are both wonderful, strong people dealing with the health problems you have. I just hope that something can and will be done to help you both in the not too distant future.((Hugs))

Nola, hugs to you and Judy. I understand what you are going through.

A good night out with some very tender medium rare steaks. Those that went to Forster this week had a good time so we know what to expect. Our club is so big 45 went this weeks and we have 55 going next week. We do intend to enjoy ourselves and relax a little.

My leg chose today to scream at me. A screw is coming loose and the pain is fairly intense. Unfortunately, I cannot move well enough to catch the horse I want to help work the cattle. Even if I did catch him, I couldn't mount him. It's going to be much harder to pen the cattle in the holding pens without him. The cattle don't respect people on foot, and the UTV doesn't have the manoeverability in small spaces. Oh, well.

Damp and grey again today. I think the rain is gone, but we are left with about 110% humidity. I know, not possible, but it is a LOT.

Coffee was extra tasty today, I have enjoyed my first mug, ready for another. breakfast can ait, it is only 9:22 am

Hugs to each of you, with extras. till later.

((((( HUGS ))))) to Nola and Judy.

Leg did not improve as the work progressed. Instead, the back decided to join in. The cattle have been worked until the Fall, but I am sore. Very sore. I had picked up Robert early this morning, (his car and his motorcycle are both down) and our other helper's wife dropped him off. So I had Robert drive him (John) home in my truck so I could feed all of the Rocky Mountain Oysters to my dogs, then crash. It was supposed to rain today. Instead, it's sweltering.

OK Heidi, had to google Rocky Mountain Oysters, couldn't wait to find out. Now you have to explain 'em to everyone else.

The dogs really love 'em. I just give them to them raw. My Vet has tried them and loves them. Fried, of course. He says that they taste like a cross between chicken and fish.

There were lots to share between the dogs..... 28 bull calves, with 2 apiece. The little pint-sized calf's were too small to even find, so he'll get the procedure in the Fall. And one bull calf that IH tagged turned out to be a heifer. Apparently, he has a hard time telling the difference.

I find that so hysterical, myself. He has both a Master's and a PhD in the animal sciences, yet every calving season he thinks at least one heifer calf is a bull.

Nola and Judy - in my thoughts
Life often seems so unfair. I hope she chooses the treatment that will give her the best chance and the best quality of life. And if she chooses the one at Nambour Hospital, I hope it's better than it's recent reputation.

***** TMI warning *****
I'm going to have to call the doctor on Monday about my leg. The screw(s) is really bothering me. I can clearly feel it under the skin, which I shouldn't be able to do. The surgeon who operated on it a little under 5 years ago said that if it ever started bothering me like this I'd have to have the metal removed. (((There is an 8 to 10 inch plate and a bunch of screws, though not as many as you'd think. Most times during the surgery, when they tried to put in a screw, it would hit one of the many fractures in the bone.))) At the time, it felt fine and we wanted to avoid an unnecessary surgery. What worries me, though, is that the surgeon I used has moved to Georgia. I will have to deal with one of his former partners just so they have all of my records.

Nola and Judy, Sudoku vibes coming your way.
Heidi, had a plate and 8 screws in my ankle and a really long one in the knuckle joint to my foot, I chose they remove the lot as they did not know the long term side effects, could always feel that one. As long as the bones are healed you should have no problems. Know what you mean about the surgery though all risk going under.

Greetings from Illinois, USA! I have managed to get here just after 10 p.m. I'll see how far I can get before being interrupted.

Rolanda, thank you for reminding us of Lynda, Perth! Is it really 4 years? How many years have we been posting on SA? And probably a couple of years before that on the sudoku puzzles pages. Amazing! So sorry you needed to be out and about in the rain. What fun to see your S#2 in his hired suit! Brilliant young man to do that! Wow! $500 a plate dinner! I hope it was yummy!

June, I hope you have a relaxing and enjoyable time away! You certainly deserve some R and R!

Nola, it's good to see you again! I'm SO sorry to hear Judy's news. Huge {{{{{HUGS}}}}} for both of you! Sending prayers in her direction!

Gail, your advice for Nola and Judy makes for a great TOPP, as it's advice we will all probably need at some point! It's too bad that your advice comes from personal experience. I keep thinking that medical advancements will one day (soon, I hope) make it possible to grow organs from a few cells from the person, making anti-rejection drugs and waiting for donors a thing of the past.

Heidi, I hope your leg felt better as the day progressed! I, too, worry about you working the cattle without your horse.

MizT, I hope the humidity dropped later in the day and it didn't combine with heat to make things unbearable without air conditioning. We have had warm temperatures and a lot of humidity the last few days. I actually tried to straighten/corral my hair before the meeting last night. Since it was in our neighborhood, we walked. I hope it looked better when we got there than it did when we got home!

Heidi, I'm SO glad you had Robert and an additional helper today, especially since you started the day with a sore leg and ended with a sore back, too. I knew what you were talking about when you mentioned Rocky Mountain oysters. (Why are they called that?) I never thought about them as treats for the dogs. I am also not surprised that IH has difficulty identifying bull and heifer calves. I'm surprised he gets close enough to them to tag their ears.

IH is not afraid to approach the calves to tag their ears any more. He used to be afraid to do it when I still had some ornery cows. He's too much of a coward to stand up to a threatening cow and call her bluff. If a cow so much as bellows and shakes her head at him, he won't go near the pair. I got rid of every cow that so much as threatened, so he feels safe to tag most of the calves now. Frequently, he asks me to help him. I tag the vast majority of the calves myself, but he does the first morning checks. In the case of this heifer that he tagged as a bull, the mom was a timid first-time calver and moved away to let him fool with the calf unmolested. He has no excuse for getting it wrong.

Heidi, I hope you are able to get your leg fixed so that you can go back to riding your horses. That's a quality of life you wouldn't want to lose. No oysters of me please, of any kind.

June, I think you leave tomorrow. Have a fantastic time!

Howdy all. Been a big day here so far. Hannah had asked if I would take her down to the bus this morning as she was going into the city to meet a friend. Of course she was running late so I ended up taking her to the town where the city train leaves from, about a twenty minute drive from here (which I managed to do in 15!). She made that train so she was only going to be a tad late for the reason she was heading in.
The reason, I hear you ask...she and her friend were joining hundreds of others to try and break the world record for the largest gathering of people dressed in costumes of video game characters! She pulled an all-nighter to get the costume finished, the zombie nurse from Silent Hill.

Oh yeah, I forgot, what else did we do today...hubby and I finally got around to finishing the wall cleaning and patching in the kitchen, hopefully that will all be finished by the time Rolanda is here. If we really pull our digit out, we may even have the kid's end living room painted, plus the guest of honour's room (don't hold your breath for that though!).

Morning all. Coffee is ready, help yourself.

Julie, the first SA was started on May 10, 2007.

Gail, sounds like fun what Hannah is doing. It is fun to be young and to do things just because you can. Will have to go look at the link in a minute.

Heidi, enjoy the Derby today. Are you doing anything special today?

I'm resting my aching leg. It's not getting any better, and the pain meds that work miracles on my back have no effect on the leg. I think. If they ARE helping the leg, it must be worse than I thought.
I do have to make one trip in to the pharmacy for some of my routine meds (thyroid and clinical depression) but otherwise, leg up.

I have a favorite for the Kentucky Derby today. It's Union Rags. I think he's far and away the class of the field, with the most race experience and the most Grade 1 wins. His trainer is the same one who trained Barbaro. He only enters an occasional horse in the Derby if he considers it a Super Horse. He believes that Union Rags is a great one.

Greetings friends. something new parked in my driveway. well, new to me at least. I bought a 2006 Kia Sedona minivan! White with a silver grey stripe around the bottom. sun roof, auto everything. It is easy to drive, easy to get in and out, and they kept telling me about the great sound system. I do not listen to music in the car, so that does not matter to me heheehe I think the thing I like best, and will be most useful to me is, unlike the older minivans we had, this has a back door on drivers side. I will no longer have to put groceries in the back seat on passenger side and walk around. OR if I need to use my walker, get out of car and walk to either back or passenger side to get it. NOPE, just step back one step, open the side door and there it is! I have to get insurance and a temporary tag to use while waiting on title from the finance co, after previous owners pay it off. So that is what I did yesterday!

Heidi, I do hope you can get an appointment soon with the leg man, and get that old hardware problem resolved. I knew what mountain oysters were. Do not think I want any either.

Oh, Heidi, I do hope the leg does not continue to get worse. If it does, can you get to the ER? Hope it settles down till Monday. It seems you also have most medical emergencies on the weekend, when doctors are not as available.
