Long break time. I just rounded up the entire herd of cattle (by myself! ... they were scattered over 60 acres), including the heifer calf born last night, and penned them up in the 8 acre pasture adjoining the working facilities. We're working cattle tomorrow. Lots of vaccinations, dewormings, fly tags for everyone, about 30 castrations and weaning 6 to 8 fall born calves. I plan on spending the weekend in the air conditioning watching movies.

The rain MizT is having will be hitting here within the hour. It looks like it's still raining at her place, too. It's supposed to continue here for the next 5 days. That may make it miserable for us working cattle tomorrow, but the cattle will be more comfortable. They won't be overheating so much.

Oh, yeah.... it looks like we'll be having a calf born this evening or tonight. This MAY be the last one.

Where to begin? I'll start with the good news. Meghan has decided to go to Harvard Law School. She got into all of the top school and Chicago gave her a full scholarship plus a $10,000 stipend, but the school wasn't the right fit for what she wants to do. I'm glad she'll be in Boston, only 3 hours away! Bryana is finishing up her first year at Georgetown University. A bit of a crisis yesterday as she started to study for finals - her computer wouldn't turn on. Jerry overnighted my laptop to her so she could study after she switched her hard drive to my computer. All of her notes for two of her classes were on it and the draft of a final paper. We're picking her up next Saturday - 8 hours each way!

Suzy and Rolanda, I know how you feel, although I happen to be the Executrix of my mother's estate. As much as you think there won't be problems (Tami), ugliness seems to always rear its head! A week after the funeral, my youngest brother and sister were emailing wanting to know what was in the accounts and how fast we can sell the house. I had just gotten home the day before, had not even unpacked and hadn't even thought to start anything yet. I had been travelling to take of my mother every Wednesday through Saturday morning from the end of October. I hadn't even put away my Christmas decorations(still haven't quite finished) and I needed a break. Their emails started a barrage of emails from half of my siblings(8 of us). Most directed at my oldest brother(a priest who took care of my mom 24/7 except when he was on duty, which is why I went there) saying he must be hiding something, even though they knew I was in charge and told them to hold off until I could go there, find the Will and assess everything. It was a mess and got ugly. I'm still mad at them! I spent a week there going over every credit card statement, bank account and bill for the past 6 years since my father died. I knew they were going to accuse my brother of using the money for himself(because I've learned that they are paranoid)and it turned out that except for my oldest sister and me, everyone of them had borrowed large sums of money from my parents. (Although my oldest brother's debt was from 1980 when he borrowed money for the down payment on his house and had paid most of it back.) My first report shut them all up, but I haven't gotten back to the estate yet because there are so many decisions that have to be made and I don't feel like dealing with a few of my siblings right now. It will open up the can of worms all over again! My mom wanted my oldest brother to live in the house as long as he wanted to since he loved it. Three of my siblings don't want him to live in the house even with the stipulation that when he leaves or dies, the proceeds from the house will go to the rest of the siblings or their children, but they insist that it's not about the money. Funny thing is, after going through all of the accounts I found out how much my brother has done for those that are causing the most problems and I just don't get it. I do have to start back into the procedure since I have to file the papers to get the medical insurance money that was paid in advance back from the company. They're the only ones that require court papers and it seems to be a delaying tactic so that they can use the money as long as possible. I suppose that's enough venting for one day! There's not too many people I can talk to about this! Thanks!

I join with Stella, Rolanda and Suzy in lamenting how families and siblings can change over the processing of a will. My Mum passed in August and even though things have gone relatively smoothly compared to some, we did have a major glitch when my brother decided that my sister (the executor of Mum's will) was taking too long and the solicitor was dragging his heels. He sent her a rather nasty email that upset her tremendously and almost ruined the close bond the 3 of us had formed, after drifting apart as we became adults and then in the last 10 years, having to unite to deal with our parents' illnesses. I was the one in the middle (although secretly siding with my sis) and I helped them sort it out but it was nasty and just not what anyone needs after a bereavement and definitely not what our parents would have wanted!

Stella, sorry you are having problems with your siblings. My parents are trying to make it as easy as possible before the time comes. I don't think my brother and I will fight, it is only the two of us. My parents have made it clear they want it split 50/50.

Stella, firstly may I say thank you, for the trust and safeness you feel for sharing your woes with us. It never ceases to amaze me how we get to see the other side of people when they think they are entitled to something.
If this all gets too nasty for you, seek the advice of a executor lawyer, it will not change everyone's behaviour, but it will mean that you will not have to lose your siblings over this ♥

(((Stella))) Yeah right.. it is not the Money!!!
I do not envy your position as Executor.
Thankfully I am not Mum's.
Things 'seemed' to have been going smoothly, but 'Executor' said something the other day, and my sister and I are Excuse Me!!
As a consequence it is not that smooth.

Morning all,
For some reason I don't want to check my emails this morning...

Stella, Happy Birthday Congratulations to Meghan. You must be so proud! And Bryana finishing! Yay! A stressful way to do it though... I'm glad you found a way to quieten your siblings down and so give you room to breathe. I have a theory that anyone who asks about money less than 3 months from the funeral should be automatically ineligible! Please keep coming to visit!

My problem is that the executor seems to think I'm funneling things off the estate. (Not sure how from hundreds of miles away with no access to her accounts) The part that offends me though is that she even thought it for a second.

Stella, Happy Birthday and great to see you pop in and give the good news as well as venting, this is a great place to do that!
Yay! Finished work for the week, long weekend up here and the end of financial quarter is just about over...just cleaning up the stragglers hehe!
Think it was Julie who asked, the money was great the hours not so great, but I did offer to help! Still did not cover all the bills but went a long way to help.
Cous Maz is moving in here on Tuesday so had the organising for that as well, think I have just about nailed it all. Just need to de-assemble the bed in the spare room and fill up the holes in the walls and doors...oh and swear! Happened so quickly so no time to paint and repair the rest, will use cover sheets when we do it. I know way TMI.
Love and Hugs to you all.

My thoughts are with those of you dealing with siblings and/or executors. My older brother and younger brother were executors when our parents died. There are 6 siblings, and as far as I know, there were no problems. I hope that's true, but I can be a bit of a "pollyanna" and be oblivious to what's going on sometimes. Hubby was executor for his mother and was only child, so things went smoothly. I know it can be such a problem, but hope things will improve for each of you.

Really must run now! Just wanted you to know how nice it was to see you here, Stella, and hope you come back more frequently!

Where he works, it was a Corporate Day, and it was compulsory to attend the thingy in the evening
$500 a head! The company paid..
Hence the Suit, which he hired!

We are off to the monthly BBQ at the bowling club. Will talk to the ones who came back from Forster today. We leave on Sunday.
When we did my Mum's estate (using the solicitor as well) some problems with youngest sister who told other people we were getting everything and nothing for her. Not true and most people knew that. Lots of hold ups getting everything organised with Sharon's. I think her partner resents the fact that Ken has the job and not him.

I hope the meal was good for $500 a head,Rolanda. What a good idea to hire a suit if you don't wear one very often. Richard has three suits in his wardrobe which haven't seen the light of day for a few years. I'm not sure if they will even fit him now When I first met him he had to wear a suit to work now it is jeans and a shirt.

Stella, your mother made you executor of her will for a reason, she knew you would do a good job of it, pity your siblings are so impatient, maybe if you had to recoup everything they had 'borrowed' from your parents then they wouldn't be in so much of a hurry.
Congratulations to your daughter on getting to pick where she wants to go to university, she must get her brains and beauty from you !!

Hi all.
Before I read the last umpteen pages, I have been off the net for ages now and only got back on late this evening. Son had to come and sort out what Greg had done when he tried to install a wireless printer onto his laptop. Had to wait ages for (Paul, son)to have the time to fix it for us.

I will read now and will be back.

Update on Judy...PET scan showed cancer is back for the 3rd time. Now in the other breast and in another part of the sciatic nerve. Judy is very good at times but deep down she is now realizing that this is getting beyond the beatable. I am devastated and I cannot show her this as I want to be positive for her.
She has been given the choice of Chemo & or radiation both of which are not in Bundy this time.Chemo must be in Brisbane, radiation in Nambour. What to do? She is leaning towards chemo because lymph nodes were involved and radiation only targets the cancer sites.
When I have more uumph I will post again. Had a very hard day at work and we were down staff members.
