Nola, great news about the job. I hope it all works out in the end! Sorry to hear about Judy not getting around much. I say do what makes you feel better...

Heidi, sounds like a good excuse to ask IH to get you dinner - you shouldn't be on your feet after all, and it is his fault that it will be longer!

MizT, I hope your next set of pain killers kick in really quickly!

Cyn, I'm glad you had a nice trip to the memorial.

Brenda, that news is a huge improvement on last years, but I am sending out thoughts that after the next treatment all of the tumours will be shrinking.

Afterwards, we hopped on the UTV to check out the hay and the cattle. The lat cow has given birth... a nice big bull calf. That makes 26 bull calves (now mostly steers) and 8 heifer calves. There are still some cows (~10) that will calve late summer to fall.

We've never had this large a percentage of bull calves. I think the highest percentage we've had was 60% bulls. We have had a bunch of calf crops that were mostly heifers, though. I hope that the cows do this again.

Beautiful sunny day here, not too hot and just a hint of a breeze. Checking in with my friends and Bella is beside me snoring, apart from that can only hear the occasional chirp of bird. Happy little vegemite!

Good afternoon all - I've managed to get the flu, probably from Chloe when I looked after her on Tuesday. Feel terrible, made worse by the fact that it's Col's first AGM as Scout Group Leader and I should be there in an hour. It's bad when the GL's wife doesn't show. I doubt that I'll make it because I feel too woozy to drive - he's already there. SIL, Lachlan and Maddy and her BFF Lily will be there so he does have some family support. What a bummer.
Ciao - I'm off to veg in front of the telly and have a nap.

Greetings, Everyone! I only have a few minutes to glance at the page (417), then off to bed for me. The alarm goes off in about 5.5 hours.

Wishing all of you who celebrate a Happy Mother's Day! Mother's are never far away, even when we can't touch them or see them or hear them. They can see and hear us, so Happy Mother's Day to all of our mothers and mothers-in-law.

Suzy, I hope your cold has improved, and hope Dana's attitude will improve so that allowing her to drive you becomes a lot less frustrating - for both of you.

Perhaps I should not say that we didn't have a lot of issues with our D's when they were learning to drive. I insisted that they get a lot of practice/experience because hubby always seemed to undermine my driving - shouldn't drive here or there because it was too difficult or too much traffic, etc.

Rolanda, so glad to hear the bricks have arrived!

Welcome home, June (and Ken)! So glad you enjoyed yourselves and your time away!

Broni, so glad you survived the week! I hope you enjoy the weekend!

Brenda, I hope Megan will hear more good news! I hope the new chemo in tablet form will work well and be less of an assault on her body.

Bean, how funny that Lachie likes flying an airplane more than driving! How many boys/young men his age have even had the experience of piloting?

Nola, very pleased to hear that there may be an EEN position opening up! Thinking of you and your visits to Judy, which I'm sure are a highlight of her day.

Cyn, so glad to hear that things went well and were followed by a bit of retail therapy!

MizT, I sure wish your pain meds. were more predictable. It sure would make your life easier! Are they supposed to be taken on an empty stomach or with food? Does it matter what you take them with (hot or cold liquid? water, coffee, tea or juice?) When I first started taking Synthroid there was no stipulation, so I took it with milk at breakfast. Several years elapsed before I was told that it should be taken an hour before or 2-3 hours after eating and NOT with milk.

Heidi, thank goodness IH got the insurance reinstated quickly. Hopefully all of the paperwork will catch up and your surgery can go on the date RE-planned.

Hi folks.
Have just lost a long post and don't have time to recapture the thoughts or remember what I'd written... One day... Will I ever learn???

Julie it is rather funny, isn't it. I tee'd up a flying lesson with vdV for his 20th birthday and the rest is now history.. Of course his dad matched my gift with another lesson and now all of his earnings goes on flying lessons.. he doesn't drink, smoke, chase wild women or run a car and so he can manage after paying me some board.. even on an apprentices wages.

I'm taking him down for his lesson tomorrow.. that way I will actually get to spend some time with him on mothers day. Don't see much of him with the hours he works.

Broni I am so sorry to read that life is treating you so harshly... lol

WTG Heidi.. shrimp dinner AND another bully calf!

Having a bit of a bittersweet day today. I am cooking up the curries for tomorrow night's dinner with all the children so that I don't have to cook on Mother's Day, not that they are actually coming for that reason, Jed is coming to watch the Grand Prix with his father! But this will be our last family meal together for some time as Chloe and Trent are moving to the top of Australia next weekend, and will probably not be able to come back for a visit for a couple of years :( ♥

Gail, know how you feel. We had Belinda decide she was going to live in Germany! The marriage lasted 8 years!
Rolanda, how great to celebrate the progress! Hope you will soon be celebrating the 'moving in' party.
I am not coping very well with tomorrow. Too many memories.
A hard day for quite a few of us. I do hope you are all able to celebrate with your families. We are going to Belinda's place and there will be about 17 of us. Laura is going to put on a dog show, so she tells us. (Her teacher from last year shows beagles and has been taking Laura to the shows and Laura has been leading the dogs in the junior events)

Curries cooked, just last minute things needed for reheating tomorrow night. Will whip up a last minute vegetable curry and prepare some light side dishes and rice.
Lamb shanks are in the oven for tonight's date night dinner, a new recipe we tried a couple of weeks ago, melt in the mouth and scrumilicious!

Morning all. Coffee is ready, help yourself. Hubby made it today so I could sleep a few extra minutes. Beasties are still asleep.

Had a wonderful day at Animal Kingdom (part of Disney World) yesterday. The kids were well behave and all my expenses were covered. The price of the trip include lunch and dinner vouchers for the kids, and chaperones. All I had to buy was an afternoon snack. It was one of the best field trips I have ever been on. Dylan fell asleep on the bus ride home snuggled up next to me. He is still my baby, even though he is the size of a small adult.

Copying my status from facebook:

So, Dana had this you-beaut thermometer that shines green when your temp is normal, orange when it is a little high, and red when you're tooooo hot. I just went from orange to red. Guess I'm officially sick.

Tami, I remember how I felt every single time I went to Disneyland, and I'm sure Disney World is the same. You're probably not as bad as I was though, I used to be very glad that I was wearing sunglasses so everyone couldn't see that a grown up like me had tears running down her face...of course we always seemed to time our arrival for the same time the lion king parade arrived at the top of main street...

CynB.... I'm glad that you didn't go. You would have shared that 'flu with a whole lot of people.... not a nice thing for the wife of a GL to do. It's bad enough being that sick (PLEASE get well soon) but you don't need to share the fun.

I slept in late, but am going to have a busy afternoon. The first crop of hay is being rolled right now and there will be a LOT of rolls to move off the field quickly. I won't be able to put it in the barn right away because it may not be cured enough. Thanks to all the fertilizer I spread, it's really thick and juicy. Thick and juicy hay can get hot inside and burst into flame on occasion. Two friends of mine have already had barn fires this year from storing hay inside too early. One just lost a big, new barn, but the other lost not just the barn but 2 tractors and all of their haying equipment that was inside the barn. I'm gonna leave the hay outside for a week or two before storing it.

HEIDI, when we lived on the farm, the owner bought hay, usually fourth of July, and they stored it up near our house for the 2 weeks curing time. boy it could smell, all that hay getting hot in the center of the roll. Neighbor farm here, one at the end of the street, he has several acres adjacent to the other dirt road, across from the farm house. I noticed last week he had cut and rolled it. He is leaving his in the field to cure fore taking it to the barn.

Some people do leave it out in the field to cure. I have found that it frequently kills the grass under the hay roll and just leaves the weeds.

I went to food bank today, happy to report there was more food given than last month. NO fresh fruit though, so I drove on up about another half mile to grocery, picked up pears, found a nice pork loin roast on sale, for tomorrow, and got some zucchini.

I got CAT some canned food, she is not eating her dry food, once again. I am not sure why she does this, same food she had before, and no matter how long I keep putting it out for her, thinking if she gets hungry she will eat it, she does not. i thought perhaps she could not chew it, so I mixed with milk and let it soften. she very carefully licked every drop of milk from around the dry food, leaving the dry, now soggy, untouched. what a kitty.

I just remembered, I forgot to eat breakfast, I think it is past time I ate something. Hugs to each of you, with extras.

Happy Mother's Day to all those celebrating today.(I think UK is different)
Tricia, my cat likes a variety diet. What she eats today she wants something different the next day.
Our hay was back in the day of 'square' bales. We left them to dry in the paddock before bring them in and stacking in the shed.

People still do square bales. It's the only kind that can be used for feeding horses in stalls. It's just very labor intensive since people have to pick them up in the fields, stack them on the hay wagon, then stack them in the hay barn. It's hard to find people willing to do that work. With the round rolls, a tractor does all the lifting and stacking. Much more practical for feeding livestock. Plus, one round roll contains as much hay as 30 square bales, generally. If you're feeding a herd of animals, even horses in a pasture, a round roll is much easier.

Heidi, the machinery to make round bales was not available back then. Our machinery was bought before you were born.

"As our bus driver told us last week, the farmers are thinking of going back to square bales as the cattle are not getting a 'square meal' anymore!"

Happy Mothers Day to all who are celebrating.

We are taking MIL out to lunch as it is her birthday today (she's 88).

Have a lovely day everyone.

Hi again.
Suzy, Suzanne, and anyone else. Disneyland and Disney World are not the same. Disney World is 4 separate amusement parks. Magic Kingdom is like Disneyland, but bigger. There is also Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Disney's Hollywood Studio (formerly MGM). There are about 15-20 themed hotels with bus transport to all the parks. There are two water parks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon and a miniature golf course. There is also Downtown Disney, which is a shopping and restaurant area, like a downtown. It also has a Cirque du Soleil arena.

Good Morning all - Happy Mother's day to all. I hope it's not too sad for those of us who've lost someone dear to them. Both my kids are coming over this afternoon.
I'm not feeling quite as bad so far today as yesterday - Suzy, sorry to hear you've got worse. Get better soon.
Tami - glad Disney was enjoyable. And thank for telling us the difference between Disneyland and Disney World. Sounds like it would take days to get through all the different parts of DW.
I love that you said Dylan was still your baby - we're watching Lachlan grow so fast, he's now taller than me, by a smidgen - but to his Mum and Nanny he's still our baby.
