I'm feeling so sorry for my young friend Maxine. She's home from the hospital, and was met at her home by a couple of carloads of Social Services personnel. They spent several hours there, trying to cross examine her and trying to make her sign a bunch of papers that she didn't understand. I find that behavior appalling!! Her boyfriend lost his temper with them and was screaming..... which only helps Social Services. I'm really getting worried. I have some pull with Social Services here in Kentucky, but none in North Carolina. Too many Social Services organizations are out of control these days and will grab a child away from it's mother at the slightest excuse... often because there is a long waiting list of people wanting to adopt babies. I suspect that was what they were attempting when they tried to force my young friend to sign papers that she hadn't read. Anybody doing that is not looking to preserve the integrity of the family, which is what Social Services is supposed to do.

I've gotten the lawn around IH's lab mowed, so that's looking tidy now. Most of the property, except the back 15 acres, has been clipped, and all 3 lawns look great as well. I believe that some of the relatives will be here in about an hour or so. That's Gil's father (and his sister, IH's aunt), his sister and her husband, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. They're gonna tour our entire compound and then go see Don's farm. After that, we're going out to supper.

What's stopping her? Fear of the unknown and fear of an emotionally abusive boyfriend who won't let her go. Everybody she's ever trusted has let her down big time and she's. quite frankly, afraid that I will, too. And then she'll be in a different part of the country from anybody or anything she knows, and she'll be on her own with a newborn. I'm trying to give her a hand up, and a non-judgemental friend she can talk to. I don't want to pressure her because she needs to get some confidence in herself and pushing her to make a change is like saying that she can't make any good decisions on her own. I just make a few quiet suggestions and let her know that she does have options. The more she thinks about them, the more chances that she'll get comfortable with the options I give her. She does have the sense to refuse to sign anything that she doesn't read and understand completely.

The relatives didn't show up here. They made it as far as cousin Don's, discovered his large screen TV, and decided to stay there to watch a couple of college football games. They placed an order for 12 dinners with that local restaurant, and I'm to pick them up in 20 minutes and deliver them to Don's.

All this flurry of work I've done in the last few days has caused my back to flare up again. I've spent most of the day in bed, with brief spurts of activity, and am back on painkillers again. I'm SO glad that my epidural is in only 8 days instead of in a month and a half. This Monday I go back to the Dentist to do more work on my root canal.

Hi all.
Thoughtful TOP Cyn.

Yesterday, was National Police Remembrance Day,so I went and thanked a retired Police Officer in out facility, for his service to the community. As I held his hand,he started to cry. It really touched my heart. He is a beautiful man,so appreciative and apologizes to staff for him ringing the buzzer for any assistance. Thanks to all the Police Officers serving, retired or passed away!

Heidi..take care! Wish they could do something more permanent for your back problem.
What a beautiful friend you are to Maxine. That is awful of Social Security to harass her.It certainly wouldn't increase her confidence having them hanging around.

Summer is on the way here. The mulberry bush is loaded with fruit and the branches are touching the ground. Renae came out yesterday while I was at work, and the girls had a feed. I would have loved to see their faces and hands afterwards. Lychee, lemon and macadamia nut tree are flowering.
More visitors due early next week for a few days on their way back home.

To all you wonderful people out there all around Australia & The World, that are unable to attend Liz's funeral. This a great way to be part of it. Wear something purple or release a purple balloon for her or light a purple candle at 2.00pm Wed 3rd Oct.& thank you all again for your love & support.

Hi all. Sorry I have been missing for a few days. I am really sorry to come back and realize what I have missed. Lizzy will be missed. I will wear purple to school on Wednesday in Lizzy's honor. The only purple I have is a purple tye-dyed shirt. I think Lizzy would approve.

Tami, I know she would! Liz and I went shopping (window shopping mainly) many times, and some of the things she picked out were hilarious, shall we say ecclectic! The last things I saw that she had bought online were the most outrageous pair of tights I have ever seen in my life!!! I may even ask her family if I could have them :)

Morning all. Coffee is ready, help yourself.

Gail, I already wrote a note on my wall calendar to wear purple. I even checked in my closet to make sure it is clean I actually have several (lots) of tye-dye shirts. It is one of my favorites. The purple one has a funny story. I was at Target trying to waste time and found it on a clearance rack for less than $3. I bought pink and purple and was mad that I could not find my size in the blue one. I would have bought all three

Morning all. Like Tami, I've been sort of missing. Been feeling kind of blah. I got the orthotics and for a while my feet seemed better, but today I can barely stand to have anything touching them. I guess the good news is that the orthotics and new shoes generally seem to be working. Today is a coolish, damp day, so I think that might be part of the problem - rainy and only a high of 12C. Just a wee taste of what's to come.

I've been crocheting again - I hope to make a granny square blanket for my FIL. He keeps admiring the one I made for my MIL and asking me about it. He is so hard to get anything for for Christmas, so I'm going to try. I need to make a minimum of 4 squares a day if I am to finish. Doesn't sound like a lot, but sewing in all the ends from the different colours is very time-consuming. Wish me luck.

I have nothing purple to wear for Wednesday, so I am quickly going to crochet a single chain bracelet to wear on that day. I had just bought a ball of purple wool last weekend to incorporate into the blanket.

Must get some ffuts done ... house is beginning to look like a pig sty. I hope to be back later. Try and behave yourselves until then!!!!

Theresa, I think a purple bracelet is a great idea. I wish I lived closer to you so you could teach me to crochet. I know the basics, but can't do much with it.

I also wish I lived closer to Tricia so she could teach me to quilt. Mitchell has a project to do for school and he decided to make a family quilt. Know I have to learn to quilt so I can teach him.

Gail, if we had a temp of 12 in the spring, it would feel nice and warm. But 12 at this time of year for us (fall) seems cold. I better get used to it. I know, I know, suck it up, girl!

Tami, a quilt is a huge undertaking for Mitchell (and you). Hubby bought me a book on how to quilt because I really want to try it. As far as crocheting, all I know how to do is make granny squares, which starts with a chain. I've tried other things, but I can't seem to get the tension right, and I have trouble following the instructions. I'm more of a knitter I guess.

I just had a wee nap and feel somewhat better ... my feet are not quite as sore. I am picking away at things in the house and then have a sit-down as soon as the feet start to ache. Maybe I'll see if there's a good movie on TV this afternoon so I can get some squares made. Sitting on the couch and watching TV, it's a tough life, but somebody has got to do it.

Remember the Bruce Springstein song about ... 57 channels and nothing on? That about sums up the TV situation here. Oh well, on to music, which I prefer anyway.

Hi everyone.
Theresa...with time, your feet should improve with the new shoes. What a great idea to crochet an bracelet when you don't have purple. I can only crotchet around the edge of things and can't follow a pattern either. I can knit anything though when my fingers are good. Hope you can get the blanket finished by xmas.
Broni...that was a nice gesture from Diane.

I am finally starting to feel better. This cold has lasted 3 weeks and I am so over the coughing.
I do think I had a touch of bronchitis.
Overcast here again. A little rain would be good.
Had another nurse of the pup yesterday. I am going to call him 'Sonny'.Thursday he has the micro-chipping,vacc etc so I might get him then as he is eating well by himself and the mother is less interested in her babies.
Gail...are you ready yet? Must be getting close!
Too bad if not, nobody will notice except you anyway.

Good idea, Heidi, to change to a purple avatar. I have done that now too. Must look for something purple to wear on Wednesday for Lizzy. I have plenty of purple in my winter clothes but nothing for warmer weather. Although is is cold and wet today.
Theresa - I agree about all the channels and nothing to watch. We have every cable channel available in Australia and still often can't find something to watch.

Theresa, I found a pinwheel pattern online and I think that is what we are going to use. I have our cousins mailing us fabric so each square will represent a person or family group. I will buy a solid fabric for the rest of the pinwheels.

Hi, I am staying at Belinda's place for a few days. Laura is here too. As those on Belinda's FB know her dog had 8 puppies. One died the next day and another died this morning. All the others seem OK.
I can see a couple of purple bracelets here that I can wear tomorrow. I went to put something on FB at home but my computer was being very slow, and as you know I do not go there very often and I could not get what I wanted to work!

Nola, I was told it would take some time for my feet to get back to normal. I have been lethargic lately and I think it's because I haven't been doing my walking or using the stationery bike. I must be more patient!

It's just after 8:00 PM, but I think I will soon hit the hay. Next weekend is our Thanksgiving and I think we are going to try and have it at the continuing care facility where my MIL is ... a potluck. I must start making a list and getting things at the store, etc., etc., etc.

I spent just over two hours looking after the grandies around supper time and they tired me out. They were getting along really well, which is quite unusual for them. That was so refreshing! I love those little girls, but there are times .......

Theresa, I have a message to you from my sister. the one who had the foot problems. she said none of her doctors knew anything about the foot pain from the cholesterol drugs, she asked them. So, she said you need to just stop taking it for 2 weeks, and keep a record of how your feet feel. Then go back on it for 2 weeks, still keeping the record. If there is not a dramatic change, it is not the drugs, but if it is, then you must convince your docs and get them to prescribe something that is NOT a statin drug, there are a very few.

Usually I would not suggest discontinuing a drug without doc permission, but this is an exception, cause they just do not know about this side effect. Also because being off the med for 2 weeks is not gonna be noticeable in the long run, your cholesterol level will not change much in 2 weeks.

Hi all!
I'm still around but seem to be busy with my usual home/work days.
I'm sorry to hear about Liz. I don't think she was on here much when I joined. I think the suddenness of her passing is such a shock for everyone.
I'm sure I've missed birthdays so if I haven't wished you I'm sorry.
MizT, it sounds like your move went well. I'm glad it's finally happened and you sound like you are meeting lots of lovely people.
Gail, you have certainly been busy around your house. I hope your family get together goes well.
I wish I could be in Melbourne for Mo's visit but I'll be in Tasmania instead. We are leaving here on 13th and not returning until 27th. Car and accommodation is booked, new camera purchased and a prepaid Telstra phone bought. We only have Optus connected phones and everyone I spoke to said their Optus connection was non-existent or limited. I'lll have to start thinking about packing in the next week and finding lots of warm clothes to take with us.
