In case anybody is interested, my pick for the Kentucky Oaks today is Lilacs And Lace. She's a granddaughter of Seattle Slew and loves running the longer distances.
My Derby pick is Shackleton. I love the name. (I am fascinated by Sir Ernest Shackleton's Endurance expedition. I even have a copy of the film footage shot during their epic 2 year fight for survival from 1914 to 1916.) He's a bright chestnut with a huge blaze. The Derby field is really strong, and any of the horses entered can win with racing luck.

Morning all,
I wonder if your grandie's behaviour is more related to your daughter's health? Don't want to leave mum kind of thing. Or perhaps she is just being a cow and boarding school is the solution - shame you can't see facial expressions in posts, you'd know I was speaking as a mum who has copped a bit and has a rueful expression. Here you can still smack your child, though I wouldn't do it in public, nor would I smack hard enough to actually hurt.

Brenda, I remembered that you gave up a lot to get these replacement things, but I'm still happy for you that you get to have them! I'd love a Dyson but a cheap one is about $500 here, some are closer to $1000. Seems a lot for a vacuum and haven't been able to bring myself to spend that much on one yet.

Suzy, I too would love a Dyson but can't afford one right now. Some day .....

Boarding school is not an option, but I can dream, can't I??? I love those girls, but some days .....

When I was in high school we always had someone from a reform school for at least the year. It was a way of integrating them back into normal school life.

Hubby will soon be home - he requested the pork chops for supper - guess he really did like them.

Good afternoon all. I have spanked both of my kids, and I did it in public! I never got arrested. If the boys misbehaved I would put up my hand and count to three. If I got to three, the hand took care of business. I did it a few times until they realized I meant business. After that, I rarely got to two. Mitchell got in trouble in school this year and I got a call from the school police officer. I told her I would be there within the hour, and to keep him away from me when I got there. She laughed and replied, "oh no. I am going to let you disciple your child." Every police officer I am friendly with agrees that spanking can work, if used carefully and do not abuse the kid.

I think that's where the problem lies Tami - some spanking is done abusively so the 'do gooders' try to stop ALL spanking.

You have never actually seen my kids. No one in there right mind would say they are abused. Mitchell is bigger than me. Dylan at ten is about 5 feet tall and weighs about 130 lbs. He is the biggest kid in his class.

Theresa we are not going to replace the caravan. We hardly ever use it and have decided that we can rent cottages for the same price as it cost us to tow the caravan somewhere and pay for site fees. We use less petrol driving solo and can use the smaller car with better fuel economy.

I have been very lucky to get a good deal on the new Dyson it cost £250 which was £120 less than it's recommended price.

Mother's Day begins today, in my household.
Both mothers have been invited to luncheon, Peter will be doing the picking up of both mothers.
For Lunch.
Dutch Soup,
Assorted Sandwiches,
and for sweets (still thinking about what to make)
something with lemons - the lemons on the lemon tree are starting to be ready for using.

The cherubs have told me, that tomorrow 3.00pm here at home.
I know nothing!
(but was within hearing.. boy #1 telling Boy #2 on the mobile phone, what Cheeses to buy [with a little input from moi].
When boy #2 came home, he told me I was not to look at the bag of goodies in the Fridge.

Gekko, Everyone! So sorry that I didn't get here earlier today. It's now past midnight.

So sorry your first Skype experience was frustrating, Rolanda! On the other hand, you were able to have a conversation with June and then your friend in NSW. I wish my hubby would reconsider his decision about getting and using it!

Brenda, you will have a busy (hopefully not frustrating) week! Too bad they won't start until Tuesday, instead of Monday, and it will take 3 days instead of 2. Maybe it's better not to fill your new freezer just before going on holiday. It will probably take at least a day to get to temperature. Will there be anyone to check on it while you're away? Absolutely no fun trying to pack when you need to be climbing a pile of boxes to find what you need! Hooray for the new muucav! I hope it works as well or better than the current one! (Can the handle be fixed enough for it to become the official "garage vac"? Good luck with selling the caravan!

Theresa, I'm so sorry you had such a tough morning - and probably all day, but I haven't read that far yet! Hoping that appointment can be made sooner, rather than later, and some help for the grandie to sort things out. Thinking of you! {{{HUGS}}}

I'm too tired to read page 69 (unless there are only a few posts). I hope all is well with everyone who has posted recently or who hasn't posted in a while. You know who you are!

Sending lots of positive thoughts, prayers, {{{{{HUGS}}}}} and for all of you! Good Night!

June this holiday is in the Lake District, the one in August is in the Peaks. You are right in saying a Bakewell PUDDING (they don't call them pies in the Peak District) is nice to eat. I saw the well dressings 20 years ago, the rest of the family haven't seen it or can't remember seeing it/them.
Hope you feel better soon Gail.

My family is coming tomorrow for brunch. I don't mind setting up and there is little cooking. I will even make a pitcher of bloody mary's although I think I am the only one who will drink one
