Even though Rolanda had sent us directions, including a map we still got lost! The sat-nav had ideas of its own, as did the driver (not me). Nevertheless we were first to arrive.

Hi MizT. Our neighbours lost 10 chickens to foxes, we have yet to lose one. We have a great coop with a roof, which helps, but I suspect it is the two big dogs that keeps them away. No rooster for us though - although the coop is far away from the house, it is very close the our neighbours!

I have been looking for some friend I lost touch with when we were living in the US and suddenly thought to Google them - I know, duh! I want to go and visit them!!!! They have a vineyard in the Hunter Valley with cabins with spas AND hubby does aerobatic flights!!!! I think we've been out of touch for too long to qualify for a discount though - sigh. That old song comes to mind... Dream, dream, dream ... but you gotta have dreams!

Glad to hear that everyone who went to the breakfast had a good time.

Suzy, I'm sure she'd love to hear from you. If you know her address, send her a Christmas card with a newsy letter. Nothing ventured, nothing gained as the saying goes.

Hi Becky.
I don't think I have the energy to go back and read the last 4-5 pages to catch up. I'm just gonna believe that everyone is okay and go from there.

That's not good. I don't dream, or if I do, I don't remember anything about it. Not scary, I hope. I've heard some say that dreaming is the most important level of sleep.

I've been sleeping in 20 minutes stretches. They haven't been scary, just strange.

Have the doctors been able to find any answers to your problems?

To be honest, I think the doctors are the cause of most of them. I have an ungoing sinus infection that's above and between my eyes, and 10 days ago, I agreed to antibiotics for it. Dr prescribed a 3-day Z-pak (500mgs a day for only 3 days). By last Mon I had candidiasis in my mouth and throat. The mouthwash he then prescribed made me sick--vomited for 5 days, but hey, I lost 10 pounds. Friday night, as follows the pattern, I had another TIA that lasted for 45 minutes. I've never had one last that long before. I'm still recovering from that-want to sleep all the time! So, I've decided to put the blame on the dr; don't you think that's fair? BTW,the sinus infection in unchanged.

Awful way to lose 10 lb. Have you thought about a second opinion? Not saying that your doctor is wrong, but sometimes a fresh eye helps.

He has spoken of sending me to an ENT, which I will probably do after the first of the year--it'll take me that long to get an appt anyway. I just get so tired of going to the doctor's. I go see 2 drs tomorrow and have an echocardiogram scheduled as well. I don't have time for all this right now. I'm not finished shopping for Christmas, and have wrapped nary a gift.

I kind of know what you mean. There's been times that it seems that's all I do. I usually end up going with hubby and SIL, along with my annual visits.

Instead of wrapping, why not just buy gift bags and tissue paper? I do that and it saves so much time.

Went shopping with my DIL (I love being able to say that!) on Sat--a terrible day to go to the mall, but it's the only time she could get here. We started a tradition last year. She and I take one day and go shopping for some things for her sisters. Since their Mom died two years ago, I just wanted to make Christmas a little nicer. I can't imagine any dad shopping for 5 girls between 17-23 y/o. We had fun, and the mall wasn't really that bad. The biggest problem is this little elf of a thing pushing my wheelchair around!

I use a lot of gift bags, but don't know how well they'll pack to ship. Have you had any experience shipping with gift bags?

Sounds like fun. For the most part, I go shopping by myself as I won't go to the high end stores. My SILs don't think anything of spending a king's ransom and my sister lives 100 miles away.

Some of our malls around here have motorized scooters for shoppers. Maybe put a card in their suggestion box. If they could advertise this convenience, it would help their bottom line.

Haven't used them to ship. Maybe call the post office or one of the other places. They might be able to give you an answer.

Becky, I'm so glad I found you on site tonight, I've really enjoyed chatting and appreciate your input so much. It's 2:00AM, and I'm heading to bed; hope to talk to you again soon. I stop by the site frequently, but usually find no one here. Have a good night, and I'll add a little prayer for you to sleep in more than 20 minute bursts.

I am putting the coffee pot on! new one makes coffee so much faster it will be ready in a flash.

Warm, humid and foggy, a repeat of the start of yesterday. No sun yesterday, grey and yuck all day. I am part plant, I need sunshine or I get droopy! Only good thing to do on a dreary day is read a book, and I did not have one, bummer. Maybe today i can accomplish more than I did yesterday, but one day on "idle" might be useful.

Cyndi, I hope you feel better soon, and Becky that you get your sleep striaghtened out some.

Good morning all! We have another "snow day" today! Had a couple of inches of snow last night but then freezing rain on top of it. All of the side roads are covered with ice.
Haven't been here for a few days, been very busy. Was out of the house all day Friday. It also took forever to mail the care packages to D#1 and S#1. Forgot to get the yarn D#1 wanted, so had to run to the store. Ran out of tape to seal the boxes, had to go get more tape. Met hubby and S#2 at the post office and they decided they wanted to eat out at "Red Robin," a fancy burger place.
Saturday, we had to be out of the house by 7:15am for soccer practice. So hubby and I went shopping while S#2 practiced. Then S#2 had to seel raffle tickets at the mall for his school band to go to Florida. We did that for 3 hours! S#2 sold 4 1/2 books of tickets, the other 3 boys sold 1 book between them. I think there was a cute factor involved. People couldn't resist his impish grin.
Sunday, we got all of the decorations out of the attic. We intended to put up the tree, but never got to it because we couldn't find the lights for it anywhere! I have to continue the search today! I did put up the table top tree, but no decorations on it yet.

D#2 called me at 11:45 Saturday night. I was in a deep sleep and I thought something was wrong, but she just wanted to chat! I've been sending her the postcard tree and she said she loves getting mail. Her and her roommate are so excited when it comes. Her roommate tells her to hurry and put the next piece on the wall! With high-tech communications, I don't think they realized how fun it was to get actual mail. Now they can't wait!

Well, I'm off to have some breakfast and tea. S#2 is still asleep! Good thing he didn't have school, he must have been really tired from the busy weekend. We have to spend some of the day working on his school project. He has to make a manger.

Have a great day!

70's and sunny at high noon in Ruby, SC.

Stella, I once made a stall (barn) out of saplings for a set of manger figurines a friend had. It took a lot longer than a day; but I do go slow, didn't have a Drimmel, and split a zillion shingles with a razor blade. I saw one at the mall made from grape vine for $45.00. I hope Max has something quicker planned. By the way, we miss Max. I know he's busy with school, soccer, mangers and such.

Cyndi - try the motorised cart thing as Becky suggested. I did last weekend and it was wonderful! Sometimes hard to negotiate in overcrowded stores, but at least I could get around and stay for long enough to get several things organised.

I hope you feel better soon. Don't wait too long! Had a friend who put off going to the doctor because he had a huge presentation to a few hundred people coming up. He ended up collapsing in front of them all! The lesson - health is more important!

Hi Becky - I was having dreams like that in hospital. I think it was post-anaesthesia stuff. When I was wearing the nicotine patch I had the most incredible dreams. I used to say if I could remember them for long enough to write them down I could make a fortune off them! D#2 has been having nasty dreams too - at the gymnastics Xmas concert a boy dislocated his ankle (the very last move of the night, and his very last at gym as he had already decided to quit). D#2 saw it (the grotesquely bent ankle) and has been dreaming about it ever since.

Back again Becky - serial posting aahh!!! - my first christmas in the states I couldn't work out why hubby didn't want to go to family celebration. For lots of reasons we didn't have much money that christmas and he said his family were completely over the top and he hated it. Based on my own family experiences I didn't believe him (if you could afford it, you spent more, if you couldn't you bought something less expensive but equally thoughtful, nobody cared if one spent more than the other). I therefore bought small but thoughtful gifts and nagged him into going. It was incredible! They must have spent several hundred dollars! And that was nearly 18 years ago. Afterwards SIL came up to me and thanked me!!! In the following years it was never that way again. We spent more when we could, but never to the extent of that first christmas. I was lucky though.

Suzy, sorry to hear that D#2 is having those dreams. Hopefully with time, they'll fade away.
