Yes, in the 30's is way too hot. I think I would rather the cold because at least I can bundle up.

Theresa, four years ago my husband and I decided that it was the time for our elderly dog. We spoke to the vet and were comfortable with the decision. This was on a Monday and we were going to the vet on Friday. Beau must have heard our conversation because he went peacefully in his sleep that night. We knew it was the right time and Beau must have agreed.

Hello lovely SA people. Like Gail, life is interfering with my SA time but I have kept up with reading it every day. That's not to say I remember what I have read. Hope you all had a Happy Valentines Day!
Theresa - sorry about Sprite. Tears in my eyes reading everybody's lost pet stories, remembering our own Bonnie (17yo German Shepherd) and how hard it was for us to have to make that decision about her.
Judy - as I told you by PM, I'm here to offer a shoulder or advice re your parents, having been through it myself. Now here's another one been through it too - Theresa. Anyone else want to join the 'How to help elderly Parents Club'?? I've often wondered about starting a forum page where anyone who has or is experiencing dealing with ailing elderly parents can discuss options. What do you think?

Cyn, it sounds like a good idea but not one I am ready to deal with yet. I am thankful that I have an older brother to help make decisions. My mom is still pretty healthy and dad seems to be doing better. I remember my dad (the only child) having to make difficult for his mother. My dad is going to be 82 this July. I guess that counts as elderly, but not to me.

I don't like the idea, Cyn. Here on the SA pages, we pretty well know each other, but having a forum page is more like placing things that upset us on a bulletin board for strangers to see.

Yeah, I know that, but they rarely jump into the conversations about family matters, unless they have something important to say.
On that subject, when I was going to get Rain, her owners tried to find out something about me on the internet. They found this site, and my page, and looked at the pictures of my animals. I won't say what they googled to find me, since my last name isn't used here.

Happy Valentine's Day, Everyone!
Hi to Broni, Theresa, Rolanda, Heidi, Suzy, MizTricia, Tami the T, Mamacita, Gail, June, Judy, V Vici, Judy (from Nunawading), Brenda, and anyone I've missed!
So sorry to hear that the mozzies are prevalent, Broni! Does Bella tolerate being sprayed to keep them off?
Theresa, how unfortunate that an older man is approaching younger boys in your area! It's pretty scary what children are exposed to these days. Thank goodness they were alert enough to avoid being lured!
Rolanda, how nice that you and your sister enjoyed the time at the mall! I hope the family party was also enjoyable! How is your garden/back yard doing?
Suzy, I don't much like mosquitoes OR flies! I hope they're not the biting flies! Sounds like you're getting your share of rainfall, including on yourself! I hope Ally's ankle is better! I also hope the Pride girl wasn't disappointed. I hope being able to compete should be a boost to her confidence!
MizT, much as I dislike dirty snow, I think it might be better than mud. I hope temperatures warm up enough to dry things out a bit. I hope you are feeling better, Sweetie!
Tami, I got to watch part of the opening ceremony. Hubby decided part-way through that there was something else he wanted to watch, so that was the end of that. I hope is was spectacular!
Mamacita, I hadn't thought about the difficulty for small dogs and big piles of snow. Did you say more snow is predicted? Yikes!
Gail, I hope the changes around home which you mentioned are pleasant and not troublesome. We will certainly miss you when you're not able to be about! Take care of yourself and pop in often enough that we don't worry about you!
June, we're so glad you have been able to up-date us periodically about your trip! I hope you are having fun while you are wearing out your shoes!
We're delighted to see you here, Judy (from In Dee Skys)!
Suzy, we are so proud of you and your sticky beak! So few people are willing to "get involved." You did, and saved a man's life! I'm so glad you were there and not afraid to be teased for connecting with others!
Vici, I hope your computer decided to behave after you rebooted! The bonus is that you got to take a job while you let your computer adjust its attitude!
Judy, it's always good when a visit with parents goes well, but also a reminder of the other times that are difficult. Still keeping fingers crossed that a good outcome develops! If your Mum looked at moving into assisted living as a way to help your Dad - and possibly keep him around longer - would that help to ease the way? Sending positive vibes your way!
Tami, sending positive vibes for your Dad and Mom as well! The move to a different hospital where they can address his breathing and oxygen levels and possibly get a bit of exercise sounds like a good idea. I hope it does the trick!
MizT, I hope your membership gets straightened out! I also hope your daughter's life settles down an

Hi, CynB! I knew I would miss someone! The idea for a new Forum page is interesting. Many of us are at or nearing the stage when we need to help our parents. We could all wish that they would easily make a decision, but it often doesn't happen that way! Would it be the safest to discuss thing/ideas here or through PM? I feel this group is most understanding and supportive - and we probably know each other better than all of the people using the site.!

You're right, Heidi - I just googled you using 3 words - your first name and I won't say what else - your page here came up as No.1 item!
Now I'm going to google myself to see what I can find.
BTW - check out this link. This doesn't happen in Brisbane - it only happens in the huge cities with street gangs, not at a private school!!

Afternoon all!
Heidi, that is wonderful - that means they cared a great deal about where Rain ended up.
Tami, you are very lucky. Some people are having to make tough decisions at much younger ages than 82. You come from sturdy stock.
Rolanda, 36 is especially way too hot if it comes with humidity. With rain predicted I hope you don't have the humidity already.

Yes, Suzy, they cared a LOT. They loved her dearly, but her health issues were more than they could handle. They spent 2 months trying to find an option other than euthanasia. I was the only person in Kentucky willing to take her. They talked to a LOT of people about me, once they heard about me. Fortunately, I've earned a good reputation. I have told them that they're welcome to visit her here any time.

I wish the people who read but don't comment would make a comment - it would be wonderful to have even more 'faces' in here.
I know what I would search if I was looking for Heidi and it's got nothing to do with a last name.
Hahahaha, the default search engine on this computer is Bing so I experimented with the three words and the first item was - Heidi Fleiss!!!!! Do you have a secret life Heidi????

I need to go back out in a half hour and turn the water hydrant off. I can't use the automatic valve when it's below freezing 'cause it turns into a block of ice and ruptures the steel pipe. By turning it off after manually filling, the water drains down below the freeze level and no damage occurs.

Suzy, I do come from sturdy stock. My dad's mom passed at 88 and her older sister was 104.5. My dad's cousin will be 91 in April and came to Florida from California for Mitchell's Bar Mitzvah 3 weeks ago. She would not miss it so her daughters (68 & 62) came with her. My great aunt and Mitchell were 101 years apart in age. She died when I was pregnant with Dylan.

Happy Presidents Day to my fellow Americans!
Good Maen and hugs to the rest of you...nice TOPP Rolanda!
Judy - my heart goes out to you - such difficult times.
I do want to put in a pitch for signing DNRs (Do Not Resuscitate orders) when a loved on is frail. After performing CPR on many people...it is particularly traumatic for our older, frail family. It is a violent procedure that seems (to me) an awful way to finish our time here. I realize it is a very hard decision, not to be taken lightly. But if you could see a full blown CPR you might think twice about wanting that done to your family member. Always I have cracked ribs doing compressions on the aged. It is not fun to do a "work up" on someone who has just peacefully passed. Remember - we don't do CPR on live people.
OK - off my soap box.
More needle raking today - but with the sun out, it is a nice chore.

I just got back inside after tagging a newborn calf. Mama is one of my best cows and had a big heifer calf.
She was smart and had it in the shed out of the still-falling snow.

In case anybody's interested, the mama is a sweet tempered cow with one of the best maternal instincts I know. As a first time mother, she had twins and raised them both herself with no supplementation. They both turned out to be good calves, too. I'd like a whole herd like her. I'll be keeping this calf.

We just had some excitement. I was outside turning off the cow's water, and one of my collies, Cole (nearly 11 yr. old male born here... a perfect gentleman) walked out on the ice of my fish pond to get a drink of water at the open area. He broke thru' the ice and fell into icy water. I had to slide out onto the ice myself to pull him out. Poor fella.

Hi there everyone,it is nice to call in and catch up with all your news.
Judy...It is terribly sad to watch your parents health decline, and even harder to know when to step in.I found it helped to talk to siblings. Then talk to Mum and Dad about our joint concerns.I hope you can sort something out but don't feel guilty. We can only do our best.
Theresa...most of us here have lost a pet and it brings back memories of our own grief. So sorry.
MizT...how is your hand feeling now after the injection? Hope it is getting better.
Gail...Hope all is OK.I am thinking of you.
Suzy..good on you for not backing away from the sick mans predicament. You should be rightly proud.
Tami..how is your Dad going and has he moved to the other hospital? Give him my get well wishes.
Heidi..never a dull moment around your place with a new chain saw and calf, tree down, and dog falling into the pond.I just love reading what you are up to.Hope IH gets back safely.
To everyone else,I hope you are well and happy.
