Morning all!
I was thinking yesterday that talk of the weather is normally considered to be 'polite' talk between acqaintances to pass the time, yet in here I find it interesting because it highlights the differences between our locations. Having never lived anywhere that gets snow and ice in winter, hearing about the difficulties that causes is educational rather than just 'polite'.

Tami, thanks for telling me about Beau. It took us an hour to get to the animal hospital yesterday and I was hoping Sprite would pass peacefully in my arms on the trip, but he didn't.
Thanks to everyone for your warm wishes to me about Sprite.
Vici, I agree about the DNR order for older people. With my mother the order went further though, that if something went wrong she was to be given no treatment at all to prolong her life, that included feeding tube. That's the part that I had a hard time with. My mom was beyond hope at that point, but it was still a very hard decision for me.
Happy President's Day to my American friends.
Heidi, your life sounds hectic, but yet very fuilfilling. Hope your doggie doesn't catch a "cold" from falling in the water.

Heidi, yikes! Sliding on the ice! What if you had gone in too?
Nola, it is amazing that you find time to come in here and read with all you have going on. I'm so glad you are so organised!
Theresa, I hope you are feeling a little better today. {hugs}
Judy, hugs sound in order for you too. My mother has moved so far away from me that I worry about what will happen...

It is STILL raining here. The poor dog is so frightened of the thunder and trying to get under the computer desk. She wants to be near me but picking her up doesn't seem to make any difference. She still shivers.

14 hour day! When I was working and studying at the same time (I did about 12 weeks 9-5) I used to get up at 4am and do my studying before work because when I got home I was too tired to work effectively. I used to fall asleep in front of the TV all the time. That was only for a few months. You're going to be doing this for a lot longer than that!!!!! Did I already offer you the MizT medal???

Just popping in for a minute. Went to the movie today with the kids. It is a no school day. We saw Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. It is based on one of Mitchell's favorite books. The movie was good, but not as good as the book. Gotta fling food soon. Will be back later.

Good morning lovely SA people.
More calves for Heidi. Like Nola, I thoroughly enjoy hearing the news from your farm daily - and me, a city girl!
Tami - agree that movies are never as good as the books. I saw 'The Lovely Bones' recently but hadn't read the book. Just finished the book this morning and it was so much better than the movie. It made so much more sense.

I really get annoyed when moviemakers change the ending of the book. I was SO disappointed when they changed the ending of The Lord Of The Rings trilogy. As is they can do better than Tolkien. In the books, the ending was perfect. Everything they learned through their experiences helped save their Shire. The evil had made it home, too. In the movie, they just went home to an unchanged Shire. There was no point to all their adventures.

I have to attend a training class in an hour and a half. Beef Quality Assurance certification. It's required to be able to sell cattle in the best sales and auctions. I have to go through the training every 3 years to be re-certified.

Good on you Vicki - it's much friendlier here.
I never usually have a rant about my husband but today is the day!! As well as mowing, he does any other garden maintenance stopping short of tree-lopping. We had agreed (or at least, I thought we had) that any tree higher than the roofline of a single-level house was not for him to do. He left this morning to mow a lawn and cut down some palm trees. I asked would they be too high and he said no. Well, the inevitable has happened. Even though he and the young lad who was helping him, were pulling on ropes, the tree twisted, fell against the house and damaged the roof and the eaves. Worse than that, it was an old house with an asbestos roof. Our insurance won't cover tree-lopping which is what this was, despite his assurances. Now we are up for paying big bucks to fix the roof, including whatever needs to be done with the asbestos. My son-in-law is en route to quote on the damage - oh, and it's raining.
I never thought I'd say this but I could strangle him just at this moment!!! He never likes to say - no, sorry, I can't do that. Superman, he aint!!!!!

I'm at work at the moment and, as I told Gail in Melbourne, I'm stuck in front of a computer for 8 hours a day. I flick back and forward between work, here, Easy and the news when it's quiet.
I don't come on as often when I'm at home but if I do I'll be signed in as Vicki from NW Brisbane.

Update on the tree incident:
Chris, my son-in-law and his Dad have found some replacement material and are on their way to fix roof. Hopefully we'll get out of this for a few hundred dollars. They also know the right method of disposing of asbestos.
Still furious though!!! Thanks for the sympathy Vicki and Rolanda.

Good Evening, Sudokuland!
Hi, CynB, Suzy, Heidi, Vivacious Viv, Broni, Tami the Troublemaker, Vibrant Vici, Rolanda, Nola, Theresa, and Victoria!
WOW! Welcome, Victoria! You must know us really well if you've been visiting since SA7! I'm SO glad you spoke up! We're always thrilled to add a new friend to our regular visitors!
Hugs and warm thoughts to all who could use them! Positive vibes where needed.
Heidi, you sure had a lot to do last night before going to bed!
Tami, sending hugs your way and positive vibes to your Dad and Mom! I hope your Dad is doing better! Hi to the Beastie Boys! Did they have school today?
A few comments sent me googling, but I think I'm over it after 3 or 4 attempts.
Vici, thank you for discussing the DNR directive - and the alternative! I appreciate your candidness! Luckily my MIL requested the DNR. She's almost 95 1/2 and a tumor was found in her lung in Dec. The decision was not to do a biopsy because no treatment would be done at her age. She's comfortable and reasonably happy in assisted living on a 24-hour nursing floor. If her needs become more involved, she may need to move to a nursing home, which would not be to her liking.
Heidi, that is ONE SMART cow to have her calf inside! Does she have a name or a number? What about her offspring? The new calf could be Blizzard. I'm SO glad you were able to rescue Cole! How is he doing after his dunking? What about you? I'm glad IH returned home safely. Oh, my, two more calves today! You are going to be even busier than usual!
It's so nice to see you here, Nola! I hope all is going well with your coursework and your work and your family! I don't know how you do it, but I'm certainly glad you can spread yourself so thin. You must meet yourself coming and going!
Tami, I've been hearing about that movie - and the book! I agree with you, Heidi and CynB; the movies are never as good as the book!
I'm SO sorry to hear about the incident today, CynB! Seems most men are like that - don't want to say no, but feel they must do whatever is asked of them. I hope the repairs can be made reasonably. Fortunately, it doesn't sound like Col or his helper was injured. (Maybe you need to have a little talk and understanding with his helper, too?)

I knew Heidi - I knew!
Now we are in the middle of a fierce thunderstorm which I hope isn't hitting the house where it happened. It is at the north of the Redlands, nearer to Broni's place than ours (we're at the southern end) and a quick look at the weather radar shows that area still unaffected. Hope it stays that way.
GRRRRRRR! Still furious. Hope I can calm down by the time he gets home and that will only happen if (a) it's all fixed (b) it did not cost an arm and a leg, and (c) it didn't get rained on or affect our business reputation - the owner is a member of a business network Col belongs to.

Help! I'm getting flooded out! The rain has been so torrential that my outdoor, undercover area is flooded to the back door. Once it stops it will run away quickly as our land slopes towards the front but there's more falling than can get away!!!

Well - loks like I've broken the site complaining about men!
Brisbane and a lot of SE Qld have had torrential downpours from this line of thunderstorms an there is widespread flooding. I'm OK here now that it's stopped and most of the water has drained away.
Vicki - how do you like your chances of getting home quickly tonight? Zero to none??
Broni, too, will have to negotiate flooded areas to get home.
Now that the storms have passed the temp is 27C but the humidity is sky-high.

Afternoon all!
Welcome Vicki! I'm so glad you posted.
You finally get your rain up there and you get it all at once! I assume it didn't make it into your house Cyn? Grrrr to hubby. I know how to dispose of asbestos (had to write the procedure for it at one of my contract jobs). The good news is that if it is raining the hazard is minimal. It's only the dust from dry asbestos that will get ya. Make sure when they take it to the tip they declare it or the fines could be huge! At least they are down here.

Cyn - There is no chance of me getting home quickly. It takes at least 40 minutes. That's the joy of working on one side of town and living on the other.
I'm nearly ready to finish for the day. Coral trout for dinner and then off to a 7pm meeting. Luckily/unluckily hubby (Kevin) starts work at 5am (4am alarm call) so we can't stay past 9pm.
Kevin couldn't come to meet up with Susan and her family because he had a job interview the next day - well he got the job over more "qualified" applicants. He starts in the higher position soon. We are all pretty chuffed about it. It's about time his potential is realised.
Night all.

Tami, Cyn, Heidi, and anyone else who said the book is always better than the movie - I thoroughly agree!!! Hubby says why ruin a good movie by reading the book????? Luckily I've trained the girls properly.
Gail, I'm glad things are sort of settling down for you. With a semi-almost-retired hubby it will never be as peaceful as it should be though.
I've had one of those days where you are busy but nothing gets done. Somewhere or other I've got an email that describes that....
Ebob is off to St John's Ambulance training tonight. Somehow I don't think Year 11 is a good time to start volunteering....
Ally is getting the cold Ebob so thoughtfully brought home to us so I'll probably have her home with me tomorrow... Sigh.

Raining again! The dog is wet and traumatised, Wait until Colin gets home and she gets a bath and blow dry as well or she won't be able to come into the house. Col is wet and traumatised - I'm just traumatised.
Oh dear, what a horrible, horrible day. I said to Colin on the phone before, lets just close the business, sell the house and everything and just take off into the wild blue yonder. That's how I feel now.

NOLA, I am still in hopes the hand gets better from the injection, but it is slow in coming. thanks for asking.
We had no snow from the second time it was predicted, went north of us, but got a dusting tonight. Too much snow for Alabama! I am looking forward to Thurdsay and friday and warmer weather.
Off to bed now, again, first time I did not sleep very long at all! It is 1 am, and time to try again.
Hugs to all,
