Heidi, my hubby stopped and got me some popcorn after work. So tonight I think I might catch an episode of Criminal Minds (OK, I'm addicted) and much on popcorn. See what you started, Heidi?
We have a TV station here called TV Ontario which shows older movies every Saturday night. Very enjoyable!!

Gail... Fred Kelly is the one who taught dancing. Among his many pupils were Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret.

I prefer Gene Kelly's dancing style and smile. Fred Kelly danced a little more like Fred Astaire.

Does anyone else here enjoy older movies? I found they were much more romantic when "sex" was implied, rather than the modern movies where they let it all hang out. I guess I'm getting to be an old fuddy-duddy.
Congrats on the new calf, Heidi.

While outside, I had a nasty surprise. Some critter dug a hole under the fence of my pheasant pen. All of my Red Golden Pheasants have escaped. They're such shy birds that I have zero chance of recovering them. At least the pair of Grey Peacock Pheasants are still in the pen. The hole has now been blocked. The Red Goldens are much easier to replace. There were enough escapees (12) that I probably now have a wild breeding population.

Had to laugh at your description of the bull calf plopping out Heidi. Now you and Theresa have me thinking about popcorn too.
Theresa must admit I love the old movies too, especially the B&W ones, way more innocent then.
Hiya Dag, good to see you. Bella does bark at people going by but she gets yelled at, at least she doesn't bark when I am away not like the dog next door.

Exactly Dag, that I don't mind at all, at least Bella's owner acknowledges the fact that she barks. The last dog I was talking about barks when my other neighbours go for their morning walk at 6.30, then again on their return an hour later, bloomin' annoyin'!

Hi all. I have never bought myself any real jewelry. My brother has been in the jewelry business since I am 17 years old. He worked for a store for years and bought the business about 12 years ago. Jewelry was a common birthday/chanukah present. I own a quite a bit and wear very little of it. I tend to break bracelets so I don't wear them very often, although I do like them.

Heidi, congrats on all the new baby animals and sorry about your loss of pheasants. I hope you can recover some of them even if you don't think it is likely.
Theresa, I agree with you. I don't know how they allowed a club to open in a residential neighborhood.
I am lucky. My dog does not bark a lot at all. Only if someone knocks on the door. Most of the dogs in the neighborhood are quiet also.

Once the ground thaws and solidifies, I'm going to have Robert dig a channel around the base of the fence around the pheasant pen, and fill it with concrete. I don't want this to happen again.

Good Early Evening, Everyone!

Hi, Heidi, MizTricia, Theresa, Judy, CynB, Suzy, Broni, and Gail!

MizT, it's good to hear that your hand is finally beginning to feel ___! (I don't want to jinx it for you, though.)

Theresa, how thoughtless of that truck driver! There should be guidelines as to how early noisy vehicles can go past a residence. It's sometime so hard to fall asleep, that we don't want that interrupted!

Judy, loved your description of your piece of jewellery/jewelry with tanzanite. The blue could be topaz (comes in yellow/golden, smoky, blue, probably other colors).

Ooh, CynB, your jewellery/jewelry also sounds lovely! I think dragonflies are considered to be lucky in some cultures.

Suzy, sounds like your Mum is coming along well! I hope you and the girls are getting over their colds! I remember wanting to get a "letter jacket" with my town's name on it when I was in high school, but family of 6 and nope, we couldn't afford it. I don't know if I would have worn it once I got to college. However, I was able to come up with enough money for a very plain class ring, which I wore until I was married.

Heidi, are you glad that the calving has slowed down somewhat? I can't imagine how exhausted you must feel! And your canaries are trying again! At least, that doesn't involve much extra work from you! Hoping all goes well!

Yay, Broni slept well! I hope you didn't have to go to work and could just enjoy the day for yourself!

So nice that you have some time to yourself, Gail! Even time to learn something about Fred Kelly! I had thought of doing that.

Theresa, a pub across the street is the last thing I would want! I'm SO sorry you must put up with the noise and the smoke. Here's hoping someone will listen to the complaints and make some changes!

Off to watch some TV with hubby. (Yes, the idea of popcorn is tempting.) Hope to be back later!

Julie... we get occasional breaks in the calving. The cows don't space it out evenly. Probably 96% of the calves will be born in the first 3 weeks.

Back again after watching TV (no popcorn, unfortunately).

Hi, Tami! I know some dogs bark more than others, but I think training has something to do with it too. Obviously, Rachel has been trained. Unfortunately, not everyone who owns a dog thinks the same way.

Heidi, congrats on the new calf, but how awful that your pheasants got out! I hope you are able to recapture some - won't they be hungry and have no way to find food on their own? Do you think they will be able to become a wild breeding population? What a shame!

I'm going to join the ranks of those who like an old movie - and some good popcorn to go with it!

Heidi, I misread Gail's comment the same way you did and wondered why the neighbors would go for an hour walk and leave their dog at home. I'm going to guess that the dog's owners don't take walks - or take their dog for a walk.

Those pheasants are wild birds. There is no way that they'll return if they get hungry. A couple of them are even offspring of wild caught birds in China. They are gone. I will most likely never get a glimpse of them, they're so secretive. They probably made a bee-line for the woods. We have around 7 acres of woods with plenty of brush and water.

Heidi, how long would it take for them to populate the area with pheasants? You could start a hunting club!

Too late to comment further, I am sleepy and just did manage to read and catch up. Enjoyed all the talk about your jewelry,I love pretties but probably would not wear them if i had them.

catch you again tomorrow. Hugs to everyone!

They're too beautiful to hunt, MizT. They're also a LOT smaller than the Ring Necked Pheasants that everyone hunts.

Afternoon all!
Hubby bought me my anniversary gift today (though I can't have it until our actual anniversary which is almost a month away). He's quite disappointed that I didn't want something glamorous and sparkly. For our 10th anniversary we converted my old wedding/engagement ring combo into a single, bigger ring. For our 20th I just wanted a plain gold band to go with it. It was even 40% off, so he's feeling like a cheapo hubby - hehe. He doesn't want anything at all - unless it's the outfit he saw in the window of BNT. Typical male!

Heidi, sorry to hear about your pheasants. If you had 2 enclosures you could leave one open and hope they decided to come home for some yummy food. Unfortunately even I realise that a bunch of other critters would probably eat it first!

Barking dogs - grrrrr. At the first whimper out of ours we're telling them to settle down. Not so our neighbours. Their blasted dogs bark at all hours of the day or night. It's not so bad when it's just us because we close a door and it's sort of muffled, but when mum is here she is miserable.

Gail - empty house! Woo hoo! Did it last very long?

MizT, sleep well!

Theresa, I can't imagine living with a pub across the street, and the noise would be the best of it! People get stupid when they drink too much, which is usually what they go to pubs to do...

I too like an old movie, and a new movie with lots of special effects. I'm not much into chick flicks, though I will watch them when they come on TV or rent a DVD occasionally. I won't watch a horror film under any circumstances!!

My computer thinks I live in Queensland. The targeted ads on facebook get my age right, but they keep offering me coupons in Brisbane and flights from the Gold Coast. And Yahoo local always comes up with Queensland first. I wonder how we managed to confuse it so well?

In our house we have a rota for doing the dishes. I cook, the kids take it in turn to clean up. What annoys me is they cannot bring cups/glasses down from their rooms before they take another up. I frequently have to point out to them that they have more (dirty) dishes in their rooms than we have in the cupboard.

everybody.
I need to get dressed, do a cow check, then load up those yearlings. Busy morning.

I adore old movies, even the silents. If you want a good cry (happiness) watch "City Lights" with Charlie Chaplin. To me, it's the perfect movie. I will NOT watch any modern horror movies. The very early ones leave all the violence to the imagination. Something like "Nosferatu" is far scarier than the modern junk, but does not desensitize people to violence.
