You've got my sympathy, Nola. Have you tried a heating pad to ease the back spasms?

Morning all!
I can't believe it but this morning I actually have real speeds for my connection! I am trying to zip around doing all the things that I like to do before it disappears again...

Nola, sorry to hear about your back. Nothing worse than a nagging pain when you're trying to sleep. I hope it feels better soon.

Heidi, great news about the home again bird - and a shock too considering how hard they are to catch.

Although my girls are getting older, I still worry that something might happen to them. I refuse to let it control my life however. I'm not going to destroy opportunities for them based on a possibility...

What am I going to get Ebob for her birthday???!!! She wants to pretend it isn't happening... I've got her the hair straightener she mentioned about a month ago (boring) and she wants paints (also boring). There should be something small, but memorable, for her to have.

Heidi, I agree about dogs. Wonderful things to have as alarm systems.

Off to look at Judy's photos before I lose this amazing connection...

At least that lowlife won't harm anyone else's children, Suzy. But it will never bring back the child he murdered.

Lost another bull calf. One of the ones born yesterday. Mama gave birth in the shed, then took him outside and left him in the deepest mud in the pasture. Cold mud sucks the life out of them.

Poor Ebob. Remember the blonde conversation where she was all confused about her age and the year she was born? Her math teacher is mentioning it every period!!!

That's 2, Suzy. A bunch of years ago, we had the muddiest winter and spring ever. We lost 6 calves to the mud, and we were lucky. Most farmers around here lost half of their calves or more. I was able to save some calves by pulling them out of the mud, cleaning the mud off them and warming them before a space heater until their body temperatures registered again.

Good Morning All.
Glad they caught that lowlife, just heard on the news he was known to the family which just makes it sadder, strange but that is what Possum said to me last night.
Hope you are all having a good day.

Good morning all!
Glad to read in the paper this morning that they've arrested a 20yo for the murder in Bundy. That little girl was so close in age to 3 of my granddaughters.
Nola - hope life in Bundaberg settles down now that they've caught him - it's still a loss of innocence though.
Suzy - you're right though - even though it is a worry, you can't completely restrict the girl's lives, just take as much care possible with their safety.
Heidi - totally agree about the dog. Our dog sleeps in our bedroom with the door closed but if a grandie is sleeping over and even coughs, Jewel is at our bedroom door fretting. (Also, sorry you lost another calf.)

It is terrible when a child dies, especially when it is in a violent, senseless way. My thoughts go out to the family. When I was 18 there was a news story in the city I grew up in about an 11 year old girl. I watched to see if she was related to anyone I knew. It ended up being a girl who lived in the same apartment building as me. I had babysat for her and her sister a few times. Another senseless waste. She wasn't feeling well so her dad let her stay home. He had to work and her mom had passed away about 6 months earlier. This was in 1982 or 83 and I still can't get her out of my mind, wondering what she might be doing now.

Heidi, glad you were able to catch one of the pheasants. Maybe you will get even luckier and catch a few more.
Suzy, glad the connection was working well for a while. I know what it is like when it is sluggish.
Nola, hope the back is feeling better soon.
Julie, we will catch each other one of these days.
Hello to anyone else I may have missed.

I haven't yet caught up on the news about someone being arrested, will do so after I leave here.

Suzy, necklaces are always popular at this age, or a signet ring maybe. How old this year, 16 or 17?

Ebob just SMSed me the names of a couple of books and CDs. Hmm.

Gail, jewellery is only good if it comes from the bf at the moment. She's 17 - aaahh! When she turned 16 we gave her a charm bracelet we'd been building since she was very young. It had 19 charms on it, each one linked to something in her life at the time we bought it.

Nola, my girls have a glory box - only we call it a hope chest (the American name). We joke that it's a 'hope I get to move out of home one day chest'.

Tami, that is so sad. I have something that I can't get out of my head in the same way so I know what you mean. I was at a store when a Brinks security guard was shot, I remember the date, his name, and the ages of his children...

When I had my faster connection this morning I put another video of Ally up on fb. The sound is terrible - lots of background noise etc, but I love this one because it is the same one she sang the first time she ever sang on stage in front of people. On that day she was so nervous it sounded like she couldn't sing at all, now she's almost too relaxed about it all!

Suzy, it is hard to forget. I had not seen the girl for several years but still...
I worry about my kids also, even though they are boys. I have talked with Mitchell and told him that it is not that we don't trust him, we don't trust other people. He says he understands but I wonder if he really does.

The charm bracelet was a lovely idea. Seventee is such a difficult age to buy for, I have always gien that age money. I usually am the one to take them shopping with their money, so it feels like the pressies come from us.
Not sure if I have mentioned here how I deal with pressies...
When my youngest was very young, she came out one Chrissy time with an enormous list which blew my mind. That was the year I came to this decision.
Christmas present prices were limited to the same amount for each one, and not very much at that. I decided that I wanted to direct the present giving thing away from Christmas and more to their birthdays. To me, Christmas is about us all being together and sharing, their birthdays are when they get 'stuff'.
I devised a formula to work out how much they should get for their birthdays each year, their age x 10. It has worked very well for me and they see it as very fair.
This formula stops at 20, they get a large gift from us for their 21st, after that it's $20 in a card for ever more!

Suzy, where can I go on You Tube to see Ally? I am on FB, but we don't know each other so I can't find you.
I like your gift giving idea, Gail. My in-laws have everything they need and whenever we would get them something, they wouldn't use it. So now we do up a "care" package every Christmas filled with grocery items and special treats. We have been doing this for at least 5 years and it goes over really well.

Just had a little too much excitement. I went out to do a cow check and discovered that one of the cows had cast herself.... that means that she had laid down next to a hay roll, rolled, and gotten herself wedged upside down and couldn't right herself. A few hours like that will kill a cow or horse. Of course, every time I grabbed a leg to roll her back over, she started kicking like fury. So I had to go get a long rope and IH. I then made a loose loop around her back leg and we both pulled her over. It took her a while to stand.... she acted drunk and kept staggering and falling for a while, but she's walking OK now. I'll go back out in a couple of hours and check on her.
