Oh, dear, it's past midnight and I've just started reading. Hello, Everybody!
Hello, CynB, Gail, Heidi, Theresa, Suzy, Nola, Suzanne, Broni, Tami, Bean, and any others I have missed!
I'm shocked at the news coming from Bundaberg! It's something that just cannot be understood! I read that the accused was friends on Facebook with the little girls parents.
Seems to be a bit of insomnia being passed around here.
Heidi, sorry to hear about the 2 calves you lost and the cow that was cast. I hope on your next cow check she was doing much better!
Hoping everyone is either healthy or getting healthy. I'm sorry, but I am nearly asleep at the keyboard. Good Night!

Good morning, it's just 1:30 AM here. My sleep schedule seems to be topsy-turvy ... can't sleep well at night, but sure can sleep during the daytime. So until it corrects itself, I guess I'll do my work during the night. That is if I can stay off this site long enough to get anything done.
Yikes Heidi ... poor cow. Reminds me of myself when I was pregnant and my husband would have to help me out of bed! Does something like that happen often? Hope all went well on your next check.

There's something very scary about the situation with the Bundaberg killer. We are always telling our kids to be wary of strangers, but how can you teach them that "friends" cannot always be trusted either? It's strange that often perpetrators are known to family members in some way.
When my daughter was younger we had a magic word and I can't remember what it is. She was taught that unless someone knew the magic word she was not to go with them for any reason.

Theresa.... I've had horses cast before, but never heard of a cow doing it. But I know that if a cow goes down with it's head lower than it's body, it's doomed. This was just a freak thing. I'll probably go the rest of my life and never see a cow cast again.

I just got back from the cow check. (This entails walking every bit of the 12 acre calving pasture and checking out every single animal.) Nobody looks to be going into labor, and the cast cow (#407) is looking back to normal. I'm off to bed for a nearly full night's sleep.

Theresa, your story about your hubby having to help you out of bed gave me a good chuckle. It reminds me of when I was pregnant with my first. Back then we had a waterbed, I hated the bl**dy thing but hubby kept persisting. Anyway, by the time I was well and truly rotund, the term 'beached whale' couldn't have been any more perfect! I had no hope of getting out of the bed, so hubby used to have to sit down hard on the other side and produce a wave so I could go with the flow and spill out of the bed on my side.
Not a pretty sight! Believe me, we did not have it by the time pregnancy No 2 came along!
BTW Really like your magic word idea.

Gail, your story of the beached whale gave me a good laugh. That's what I used to call myself towards the end of my pregnancy. I could barely get off the couch without help.
As far as the magic word idea, we never had to use it at the time. I read it in a magazine at the time and thought it was a good idea as well.
Well, off to do the morning chores ... cats, etc. Then I hope to grab a couple of hours sleep. With the way my sleep habits are backwards, maybe I should move to Australia.

Evening all
Sadly I have always talked to my kids about people they know as well as strangers. I told them if it felt wrong, then it probably was, and if anyone ever told them that something was a secret and not to tell anyone, particularly me, then that meant it was even more important to tell me, and as quickly as possible. Not that that any of that would have helped Trinny.

Hi everyone! I should be off to bed, but Rob's watching the sports, so I'll stay with Mr Computer a bit longer!
Very sad news about the murdered little girl - so often it is someone they know and that just makes it worse.
I remember something that happened when I was 6 or 7: I was walking home from a friend's place, along the beachfront - a nasty wind suddenly started up and was blowing sand against my legs so hard it really hurt. I guy in a parked car opened his door and told me to get in ... and I did. Nothing happened, I just sat in the car till the wind died down, but I think I knew pretty much straight away that I'd been very stupid! I ran all the way home afterwards, and I don't think I ever told my parents ... The beach area could be a bit risky, there were sometimes strange people in the bushes, but no-one ever worried too much back then!
Just saw some lovely figure-skating: my favourite part of the Olympics. I was so sad for the girl whose mother died a few days before the competition - she still gave a wonderful performance, even though she was crying at the end.
Ok, tv's off, I shall say good night. :)
Sleep well everyone!

Happy birthday to Brenda for yesterday,
Heidi, to much has happened to you lately for me to have the time to comment. farm life is always bbusy and interesting.
Thinking of everyone else and a bit too tired to say much.
7 1/2 hour flight today leaving Amman at 0.55am. We are now in Bangkok for about 24 hours and will fly Hong Kong/Sydney tomorrow.
Lots of photos (including some of me with the black mud) to sort and it will take awhile to get back into routine. Though I do believe I am babysitting Laura on Sunday!

Brenda: glad to hear you had a nice birthday. A haircut is alwasys a nice way to pamper yourself. Enjoy! I give gift certificates to my clients for their birthdays.
Judy: I love the figure skating too. Very sad about Joannie Rochette's mom, but her performance was inspiring & beautiful. The morning recap of the Today show just showed her & I was crying again!
Heidi: glad you got the cow tipped up again. How scary!
Hello also to Theresa, June, Victoria, Suzy, Gail, Cyn B & Viv... Hope I didn't miss anyone! Have a great day/night all. TTFN

Good Morning Sudokuland! We are re-provisioned! Made the long trek to Aldi's again and stocked up on things, many of which are still in the van. It was almost 7 o'clock when we got home and I was NOt up to bringing in and putting away. Cold stuff came in and stored and I crashed into my recliner with my book, too tired to deal with TV even hehehe. It is all hubbies fault. I wanted to leave home by 10 at latest, he got ready to go by 1:30! then he had places up town he needed to stop, so it was a long shopping trip for us. I did get fed, and no cooking last night!
I have read and caught up, I have forgotten what I read mostly.
I am glad to hear they caught the murderer, and that Heidie's cow is untipped now.
Sad memories many of you have of others who were lost.
I forgot to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Brenda yesterday, so here it is , late but heart felt.
Hope June gets home safe and has time to rest fore babysitting.
Nola, sounds like your study is going well, keep up the good work.
Teresa, I had trouble getting out of water bed, much like you and I was not even pregnant!! That is why we got rid of ours. I loved the warmth, helped the achies, but hated trying to climb out.
Heidi, walking the 12 acre pasture is a lot of exercise, especially if it is muddy and offering resistance at each step!
all I remember, hugs to all, I have ffuts to do today, like put away TONS of groceries! at least we shall eat!

MizT... the challenge is not walking the 12 acre pasture in muddy conditions. The challenge is that it's dark at night, and the skunks are all around. We have a lot of solid black skunks around here, and with 3 black cats that escort me around the pasture during the cow checks, the chances of an accident in the dark are fairly high.

Brenda, that sounds like a perfect birthday! I hope your hair looks and feels beautiful after your pamper trip today.
Today is my big baby's 17th birthday (am I really that old?). She is giggling in the bathroom while her sister straightens her hair with her new straightener and is wearing her new trousers, even though I had to fold them up 4 times for her. From the sound of it she is also playing her new CD. The bus just left so it's lucky I offered to drive them to school today.

We used to have the BEST waterbed. It had tubes of water and a thick pad. No heating, we could turn over without disturbing each other, and soooooooooo comfortable. When we moved here we discovered the tubes had to be replaced, at a cost of almost $1000. We have a regular bed now :(

MizT, I saw a family once loading their car with groceries. They had a pickup truck and it was overflowing! Apparently they only shop once every couple of months as they live out of town and hate coming in. I guess they froze milk and bread or bought it from a little shop locally. I remember thinking that you'd have to be really good at making shopping lists to get away with that.

Heidi, I didn't know there were black skunks either. We have had milder weather the last little while and I have a feeling our neighbourhood skunks are out and about. The food I leave for the feral cats is disappearing quicker than usual.
Suzy, do tell your camping story!
Time to go to the K room and start supper. I already had my supper. My daughter had ordered pizza for her family and she came over and dropped off a couple of pieces for me. I haven't had pizza in a long time. My husband doesn't like pizza, so I will still make his supper.

The boy and the car update: The boy signed papers last night, to purchase, subject to our mechanic's check.. a 2008 Mazada 2, 5 door hatch, silver, just over 10,000ks on the clock. All being well, the caryard will take the car to the Mechanics today, and a favourable report, the boy should have the car tomorrow. He got a reasonable trade in for his little 12yr old vroomvroom!!
The SalesRep came to our house last night, eager to make a sale, especially as it is the end of the month, the boy is buying the car at a good price!!!

Big shopping day Mizt. Guess it is all put away now. I will have to go get some veggies when we get home tomorrow. I have bread, milk and meat in the freezer. We went into Bangkok yesterday and had a lovely Thai dinner (we are in a little zero star hotel near the airport). I love eating out but I am looking forward to some plain home cooked food. Just wish I was not the one having to cook it.

It makes cow checks a challenge. These solid black skunks are a local aberration of the common striped skunk.
The common markings are rare here. I've seen many solid and near-solid black skunks (some with a white star on the forehead) and a few all white ones. Fortunately, the white ones can't sneak up on me. I have no white cats.
