Since my tractor is sick
, I asked IH to feed hay to the cattle with his tractor.
His tractor is an underpowered 2WD junk pile without a front end loader. So he fired his tractor up, drove over to the nearest hay next to the house, and promptly drove it right into a barn door, smashing it up.
He then picked up a hay roll and got hung up in the mud. I had to risk doing more damage to my tractor and finish the feeding myself.
I then asked him why he drove the tractor into the barn door. He claimed that his clutch was slipping. So I asked him why he didn't use the brakes? He wouldn't answer.

Not sure what is on the cards for today. Hubby has just nicked down to work to fix something on the puter there. I am in the k-room...as you can telll...finishing of the sehsid. Yesterday we finally got around to planting two golden abelias that were looking quite sad in their pots, so I feel more gardening coming up, We were also going to put in the Orange Twist that had been resurrected from a grave somewhere else in the garden, but hubby said digging two holes in the concrete we call soil was quite enough for one session! Solid clay...yuck!

Good Early Evening from the Land of Lincoln! I hope everyone is well!
Hello, Suzy, Heidi,
Suzy, I'm SO sorry that the crazy storm and ensuing circumstances that placed you on your back on the floor! I'm hoping you're feeling much better now! (It's a good thing the dinner/dance isn't tonight!)
Oh, NO, Heidi, another fall! You are going to be SO ready for the epidural! Congrats on the heifer calf that you wanted! Does that mean she is a calf you will want to keep? Heidi, with the way IH "helps" you, I'm thinking the stun gun just might get some use.!
June, I hope you finally got some more sleep. It is so hard to break away from the Olympics coverage, though!
Suzy and Broni - umm - storm in Europe? I guess I better check in with Mr. Google. I haven't heard anything about it, what with the earthquake and after shocks and tsunamis.
We watched the start of the hockey game while "biking" at the health club. I hadn't seen the results. It must have been a nail-biter! Theresa, you must be thrilled!
Gail, I'm going to do a search of golden abelias, as well! Once you get things planted in your clay "soil" do the eventually do well, as do you need to do a lot of boosting of the growing material with compost or fertilizer? BTW, I think my computer chair must have heavy-duty velcro!

A violent storm with fierce rain and hurricane-strength winds tore through western Europe Sunday, claiming at least 51 lives.
The storm, named Xynthia, was France's worst since 1999. Many of the storm's victims drowned, while others were killed by parts of buildings or trees blown loose by strong winds. Nearly 900,000 people in France were without electricity.
Rivers overflowed their banks in Brittany, while high tides and enormous waves swamped Atlantic Ocean communities in the early morning hours.
There were also storm victims in Spain, Portugal and Germany.

Hi folks...one day I will catch on my reading...
In the meantime I had best say good morning...and it IS a beautiful autumn morning here in Melbourne..it is so wonderful after the heat to actually be able to wear a shirt with sleeves... cannot remember when I last felt cold!!
Autumn is my favourite time of year...soil is still warm after summer and the days are cool enough to get out there and work it without overheating. I am trying to remember where I saw s wonderful little 'gardeners' seat on wheels ...perfect for someone like me that cannot get down on her knees anymore... It would be easier than trying to get around the yard with the whipper snipper in one hand and a chair in the other... I could sit down on the job when I am slashing and trimming hedges...
I'm going to try to resist buying bulbs this year...I have so much to catch up on in the garden. I've bought a small second hand mulcher which will be handy for all the pruning...that is the hardest thing at times...clearing up all the cuttings...just thinking about being waste high in grape vines here...

Speaking of planting, I just ordered some interesting ones. I bought some all temp. Banana trees (they can survive down to -20℉ / -29℃. I also ordered some Pampas grass ... both white and pink plumed. I got them for inside the pheasant yard to provide lots of hiding places for nesting.

Hubby is home, sehsid did get done, and I trimmed up a couple of the hanging pots out the front, A couple of the Tahitian Bridal Veils were looking a little sad and sorry, so they have been cut right back, The problem with those is the once a week watering does not seem to be enough, so I will add some water retaining stuff to the pots and supplement their waterings with the occasional grey water soak. Strange, because two others on exactly the same line are flourishing...maybe I might have to repot them and give them a real jolt.
Julie, in answer to your query re our clay concrete, yes, we definitely do give the ground some treatment, and we seem to have hit upon the right combination. We used to dig a hole, chuck the plant in and hope for the best-the result-plants were becoming 'potbound' whilst in the ground, The clay was just too hard for the roots to penetrate.
Now, we did a larger hole, throw in some gypsum (clay breaker) into the bottom of the hole, pre-water the hole, then put the plant in surrounded by a potting soil/compost mixture with a wetting agent in it and mulch over the top. The theory is that it will give the roots enough room and boost to get their strength up for when they reach the clay!

And on that note, I will say farewell again. Time to have an early lunch with hubby (no, not a gail!) and then we can head back out to the garden.
BTW The vegie garden has given us a bumper crop this summer. Tomatoes coming out the wazoo, cucumbers galore and more chillies than you can poke a stick at! Just waiting on the corn to be ready, then we shall turn the beds over and plant the next season's crop.

Gail, I would enjoy growing some of my own veggies but where I live, the squirrels would probably eat them. I also really don't have much of a yard to plant in. I did try growing radishes in a pot. We watched the seeds sprout and when the green leaves on top looked big enough we pulled them out to use in a salad. There were no radishes, just the leaves and roots.

Just popping in to say hi and do a bit of reading. I'm on a tight deadline, so I have to work, work, work.
We don't have a vegetable garden, but for the last two years we've planted pumpkin seeds in two large truck tires for the grandies. They get a real kick out of carving pumpkins for Halloween they grew themselves. Last season I didn't notice that I had gotten seeds for large pumpkins, so they kind of took over the back yard.
Julie, it was a thrill to see Canada win the hockey game. I had the game on while I was working. What a close game!
Sorry that people have been taking falls ... ouch.
The weather around the planet is terrible. Mother Nature can be a vicious lady.
Well, back to work. Hope everyone gets on the mend soon.

Where did today go??? My connection is wacko again today. Sigh.
My vege garden is still a weed box... I do have chillis in pots though - the snails love them!
Heidi has to be hurting a lot worse than I am as I don't have a preexisting injury - except to my pride. Sending more vibes to Heidi! I would never have thought banana trees could survive at those temps - I'd always thought of them as tropical. There you go, learnt something new again.
Theresa, I'd been wondering who won.. I hope your deadline passes soon so we can see some more of you.

Hi all. I'm back from the weekend. Lord, they go fast!
I'm one Queenslander (known as banana benders) who will not touch a banana. I don't like the taste of them (either by themselves or in a drink) and please don't leave them near me when they get warm. The smell will make me physically gag. I don't know where this dislike came from as all my family will eat them.
