Off to get my epidural in 20 minutes.
Broni... there should be no problem doing cow checks after the epidural. I just have to stroll around the pasture, looking for cows getting close or just having calved. If I check often enough, I can tag a newborn before it gets to it's feet, so there's no wrestling involved. Because I got rid of every cow with a questionable disposition, I don't have to rush tagging the calf or dodge the cow. I just have to be careful bending over

All our family seem to have collected buttons. I have them back to ones my Great grandmother's.
I have finally put up aome phots from Jordan. I did chicken out on ones at the Dead Sea. Me in a swimming costume is not something to be seen on an open site!
I now have to work at selecting some different ones for the puzzles.(Just think I do have over 800 to chose from).
Thank you all for the wonderful comments.

Sounded a great day Gail. I will happily give you a monster monsteria!
Hope the epidural hurts Heidi, didn't you say that is generally when it works best!
Tami, hope that cold soon gets better.
Suzy, something will make you make the right decision about Ebob's singing.
Hope you have enjoyed your special day Judy. Enjoy your day tomorrow all who will be there.
Hi to everyone else. Off to bed.

I'm back.
It wasn't the worst epidural I've had.Or I just might be getting used to them.
Got home to 2 new heifer calves. IH very grudgingly tagged them.
Back to bed.

Morning all!
I lost my post! Now I have to try to remember what I said...

June, the good thing about choosing which photos to post is that you get to relive your holiday.

Heidi, I hope the epidural works. Do you call what you do vealer production? One of the Pride girls had to do an assignment on that.

Gail, I did some work for hubby's company and people were a little worried about us working together - but it was fine. We respect each other which I think is the key. We only did it for a few months though, I don't know if we could have kept it up forever.

Suzy... vealer production is only done with dairy steers. They only stay on their mothers for 2 or 3 days, while the cow is producing colostrum, then once the cow goes into milk production, the calves are put on milk replacer. With beef cattle, the cheapest way to put weight on the calves is to let them stay with mama for 7 or 8 months.

Heidi, I just double checked her post and the Pride girl says that it is beef cattle bred to become veal. Either she has it all wrong or Aussies call it something different. I wouldn't be surprised either way...

Because she had mentioned it I read a news article I saw. The EU is looking into the naming of veal products. Sometimes it is as you described, but for others they have grain fed cattle just a tad older, both called veal in the supermarkets. They want the second kind called beef so consumers know what they're getting.

Good Morning all!

Rolanda, sending positive thoughts and prayers.

Heidi, I hope the epidural works it's magic and relieves the pain.

It was really strange at home this morning. It was just me and the dog. James and Kevin left for work around 6am and Shaun stays at his girlfriend's house on Wed evenings. They have late lectures (until 10pm) and then an early start on Thursday. I'm not used to having the house to myself in the morning. I had the radio playing and could potter around. Ah, bliss!
Last day at work for this week.

Just stopping in for a few minutes. Actually feel a little better today. I think Mitchell is coming down my cold. He is running a very low fever so he is going to stay home and rest tomorrow. I have to give the test next week, he has to take it. I don't want him getting worse or giving it to his friends. Some things should not be shared

Glad you're feeling a little better today, Tami. Colds really do a number on you. I've never heard of anyone dying from one, but I know I tend to feel like I'm gonna die and am afraid that I won't.

Just checked on Mitchell and he definitely has a fever. Luckily it is not too high. He will stay home tomorrow. Wish I could, too. I will take a mental health day in a few weeks. Going to say good night now. Hubby is making tea and then I am going to bed.

Tami, hope you and Mitchell feel better soon. You are a conscientious teacher. I have seen and worked with some who will take time off regardless of the stuff the kids have coming up. The head teachers work it out though and dont' tend to give them the senior classes.

My great niece, the one who's mother died recently, is posting on fb that she is doing TAKS tomorrow. Is that like the thing you are preparing your kids for? I think Paige is 14.

Well, if that's lunch, I've had it!
What a great time, and a lovely group of women.
As you know yesterday was Judy's birthday so the rest of us were in cahoots and organised a few little things for her. I brought a cake for afters, Liz brought a pack of nice smelly thingys, Kate brought flowers (lisianthus, my favs) and Bean brought a wonderful little succulent plant in a cute pot. Judy was most choofed!
We drank to Rolanda's health. Just about to pop over to fb and see if her sister has posted anything. Will come back and let you know.

Afternoon all!
Coffee in hand. I have successfully procrastinated my paperwork by doing all sorts of swear words. I will regret that, though it is nice to have the swear words done too.

Gail, what a great surprise for Judy! How wonderful! I can't see Rolanda's sister so I'm glad you are checking for us.

MizT, hope you are well today. Thank you for the who's whose explanation...

Hello, Everyone!

Hubby and I have spent HOURS today working on filing/gathering information in order to do our income tax. This is a time of year we both dislike immensely, so put off as long as we can. Now we need to get in gear and work on this - plus do a major house cleaning, as D#2 is bringing guest from out of state for about 3 days around mid-month. Plus, D#1's baby is due on day (I think officially past date starting today).

Hello, Suzy, Rolanda, Broni, Gail, Brenda, Heidi, June, Victoria/Vicky, Tami the Terrible Troublemaker, MizTricia, and anyone I've missed! Didn't see eaa, Suzanne, Bean, Nola, Theresa, Mamacita, or others here today.

Suzy, thanks for asking about the knee (and general) exercises. We started the day today with acupuncture. The decision was made to give ourselves the day off to allow muscles to have a little recovery time. Back to work tomorrow! I hope your back is doing well!

Broni, we have been missing your newsy chats due to lack of internet time. We look forward to your new allotment starting soon! Your advice to Suzy about Ally seems very sensible and well thought out. You made points I hadn't thought of!

Gail, it's so much fun reading about things you and hubby do in the yard/garden! Seems you enjoy the working AND each other! Have fun at lunch and pass around some Sudoku Hugs for the rest of us, please! Congrats on post #5000!

Rolanda, hope all goes well! Sending prayers and positive vibes!

Heidi, I hope you're feeling better - or will be feeling better soon - after the epidural. Please be careful when out on your calf checks! Congrats on the new calves AND getting IH to help tag them!

June, I hope to find time to check all your pictures in the next few days. It's just this work preparing to file tax forms that we had put off as long as possible and will now haunt us! It might be a couple of weeks before I can really enjoy them.

Ooh, Vicky, only one more work day this week! Your morning sounds so relaxing and enjoyable!

Tami, I'm glad to hear you feel a bit better. Keep on the feeling better track and get as much sleep as you can! The same goes for Mitchell! Get better so you can make it through the tests!

We certainly can count on MizT for helping with the grammatical things. Mamacita is good at it too! Yep, whose was the correct choice for Suzy!

Gail, what a sneaky and great plan to surprise Judy! So glad you girls all had a great time!

Gotta run! It's nearly midnight and I'm hoping to use some of that snooze dust that Suzy sent through the cyber waves! (Thanks, Suzy!) Good Night, Everyone!

IH helping tag the calves was NOT good. Not even remotely. First, he recorded the wrong ear tag numbers for the mothers. One that he said gave birth today actually gave birth 2 weeks ago. Then, he decided to sort cow/calf pairs to the next pasture where we feed grain. Unfortunately, he paid no attention to getting the correct cow and calf through the gate together. So we ended up with a bunch of mothers in one pasture, with their calves in another. He also moved some cows through that hadn't calved yet. The pasture that they're in now has a LOT of hiding places... so many that it takes 2 hours to check it at night. I had to go out and try to get calves back with their mothers... I got 3 pairs back together... but there are still cows and calves bawling. And when they're separated, the cow can't protect her calf from predators. We may lose a calf or 2 tonight because he did this. I had told him NOT to separate any pairs if I wasn't there, to prevent this happening. Besides my back killing me right now because I did something I was not supposed to do, but I'm in a foul temper. My throat hurts from all the yelling I was doing at IH.

Evening all!
Just did check on the other page and Rolanda said she was going to be admitted about 3 and a half hours ago, operated on at some unknown time after that....

Heidi, grrrrrrr, what a stupid thing to do. I hope the calves make it through the night.

Julie, for the frist time I have missed a year doing my taxes - I hate it so much! Hopefully we don't owe any money....

It looks like Ally might have made the decision about singing lessons for me. The decision was basically whether to get a new singing teacher when her current one joins the navy in a few months (helicopter pilot or co-pilot). Today Ally auditioned to join the school's singing ensemble - although she agonised over it for 3 days she didn't mention it to me. So if she gets in it looks like we'll need another singing teacher....

Good for her, Suzy. She's found something she enjoys, is good at and has given her loads of self confidence. She wants to stick to it, and that's a good thing. She's still young, and is not making a lifetime commitment, but it's good for her now. The confidence she's getting should help her in all aspects of her life as she matures. If she was my daughter, I'd support her in this as much as she wants.

Just popping in for a quick hello. Have read everything here, but as usual have forgotten much of it.
Hope Rolanda's surgery went well. Tami, glad your cold is better. Heidi, OUCH for your back and IH's handling of things for you. Sounds like his helpfulness has cost you extra work and wear and tear on your back.
Gail, glad the girls enjoyed their lunch. Can your hubby get me a new laptop too???
Julie, hope your knees are better. I spent almost 6 hours with the grandies yesterday and last night I could barely walk. Was in bed by 9:00 and slept till 5:00 this morning. I babysit one grandie today while my SIL has a root canal and then my babysitting chores are done for the week.
Have to go for blood tests (fasting) and EKG tomorrow. I HATE the fasting part.
Suzy, I agree with what Heidi said. Ally will always be grateful for your support. Right now she is living a dream and she will always remember you were there for her.
Well, hope to pop in later. Time to get the morning chores done before the grandie comes over.
