But I have got IH's TLC to look forward to when I get out of the hospital. Since it's nonexistent, I take what I can get. But I really miss the dogs when I'm in the hospital.

Hehe Heidi! Understand perfectly, but nothing like your own bed and surroundings and of course the dogs would be better company!

Good night sudoku friends, I just had to check in to see if there was word from Rolanda. glad to know she had something to eat and drink. hope she opted to stay another day and be pampered in hospital.
HEIDI, so sorry you had to drag out the calf from the pond, but glad the poor little thing did not drown in there. Hope the back will behave itself for you tonight and you get some rest. Sorry to hear about Chili, but under the circumstances it is for the best.
See you all tomorrow, 'nite friends.

Back again for a few minutes. Hi, Theresa, Heidi, Tami the T, Suzy, Broni, MizT, and anyone I might have missed!
Oh, dear, Heidi, such a huge expanse to check for calves. Can IH be trusted to actually go out & check that much at night? I'm SO sorry to hear about all the problems he has caused! Good luck with the second half of the calving season!
Suzy, thank you SO much for the update on Rolanda!
I'm about to head to bed here. Sweet (and hopefully comfortable) dreams, Tami, MizT, and Heidi - when you finally get a chance to go to bed!
Sending positive thoughts and vibes to all! Good Night!

Heidi, sorry about all your problems with the calves and IH. We bred calves for dairy so the breeding season was spread over the whole year. Sometimes a cow would hide a calf but generally there was no trouble. Dad seldom got up during the night for calving. Only when a cow bellowed and he knew it was in trouble.

That's why I won't join Facebook. I keep busy enough on a real farm.
IH is already being derelict in doing a cow check.... so I'm off to do it. I just got a new secret weapon, though. A 10 million candlepower spotlight. It'll light things up for a quarter mile almost like daylight.

Evening all!
Rolanda, great to see you hear! I hope you stay pain free and get lots and lots of pampering and rest.
RIP Chili. At peace now.
Theresa, a high of 7C is great weather??? Boy I'm glad I live here... though when it's really humid I might wish otherwise.
vdV - have a fantastic trip!! Wish I could come with you.
Vicki, hope all went well at the doc.
Tami, Paige lives in Texas so I'm guessing, based on your post, that the T in TAKS stands for Texas, the A maybe for Assessment, the rest of it????? They test a lot don't they? Ebob was tested in years 3,5,7,8,9,and 10. In year 12 she will do the huge tests - average 3 hours per subject - which determine what and where she can study. Ally will skip one of the tests Ebob did, but I'm not sure which year. They do 2 English, Math, Science, History, Geography, Computer and I can't think of anything else so that must be it.

I thought I would call in here for a bit of sanity. I could not keep up with the 50-60 Emails that came flooding in. BBQ night at the Bowling Club so that gave me some respite.
There was also some family and friends that sent messages as well.
Sorry about Chili, Heidi. Hope that spot light worked well.

That calf that I pulled out of the pond didn't make it. She must have gotten too chilled. The water temperature was just about freezing, and her organs must have shut down fairly quickly. When I left her after fishing her out, she was sitting up, and mama was licking her off, but that was probably the last of her strength.

IH just walked in and said that he did a cow check, and that everything was OK. I asked him if he saw the dead calf, and he didn't. I told him that if he's done a cow check, he'd have seen it. His brilliant response???? "OK, I'm gonna take a shower."

June, I keep getting invitations to join facebook also, and I just quickly close the e-mail. I could not keep up either, have NO idea how it works, have no need for a cyber farm or zoo or town or any of that stuff. thosw who enjoy thiers that is fine, I had much rather read a book.
Rolanda, good to see you posting, and am glad your boys are taking care of you. Get well soon.

MizT, I joined FB at the request of my daughter. I will have Laura(now 4 1/2) here on Wednesday and she can help me sort out the farm requests that I am getting.

As I was leaving for the show, another cow gave birth to a nice, big bull calf. So, I had to delay leaving to tag the calf.
I had a great time there, and chatted with friends. There are 2 young bulls that I really like a lot, and am having a hard time choosing between them. The funny thing is they have the same birthday... April 3rd, 2009. I'm gonna have to choose by tomorrow. One bull is related to Rede, my present bull. Breeding this guy to Rede's daughters would provide very predictable phenotypes and genotypes. The other bull is completely unrelated, but conformationally is a better match. If the breeding works, I could get exceptional calves, but if it doesn't work, I could be very unhappy with the results.

Suzy, looked up TAKS. It stands for Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills.
Rolanda, glad to see you are doing OK. I know you are OK if you are posting here and on FB.
Heidi, sorry to hear about the calf. Knowing you, you would do anything you could to save an animal. You are right, animals are smarter than people give them credit for. My yorkie, Beau, could always tell when I was upset and would lick my face to put me in a good mood.

Just popping in here for a moment. Sending positive thoughts to everyone, especially our dear Rolanda who is home & being cared for by S#1 and S#2!
Hello to June, Heidi, Broni, Rolanda, Gail, Suzy, Brenda, MizTricia and Tami the T! If I've missed anyone, I apologize!
June, I have managed to be on Facebook without a farm or games in the past year or more! It has been a way to catch up with some nieces & nephews we rarely see, and some classmates from high school I hadn't seen in around 40 years.
Heidi, I'm SO sorry about the calf you lost, but SO pleased for the new bull calf! Hey, hey, a million candlepower spotlight ought to help with the night checks! How are you feeling, sweetie, after the work of trying to save the calf that fell in the creek? I'm so sorry that IH is being so predictable! HOW MANY bulls and cows will you be buying? I know you'll make the right decision on which bull to purchase!
Broni, hoping you are able to be back to regular posting when you get the new internet allotment! We have missed the friendly banter!
Rolanda, welcome back home and hoping any pain can't find you. Let your men pamper you as much as possible! Gentle hugs and positive vibes being sent your way!
Gail, your father BIll/Bull is VERY young!
Sorry, someone had to pull your leg a little bit!
Tami, hope you are continuing to feel better! Enjoy the weekend away from school!
Gotta run for now.

Julie.... I have been using a million candlepower spotlight for years. The new one is a TEN million candlepower one.
I've been thinking hard, and I've decided to try for the unrelated bull. I think I want the bull that physically has the appearance I want, instead of one I'd look at and think "I wish he had a longer back?". The related bull will be my second choice. Whether or not I get a cow or heifer will depend on the price. A sister to the related bull is up for auction, so I could get her and have the genetics from both. Another heifer for sale is a great granddaughter of a bull I owned years ago. I wouldn't mind having her. I really liked that bull a lot. Unfortunately, he tore a tendon in his stifle and had to be sold for meat.

Afternoon.
Feeling quite sore today, the throat neck chest!!
Been on the outside recliner on the patio, under the fan, snoozing, too tired to read a book.
Peter is out and about, having a haircut, and had an errant to do, and do something for my mum..
Boy #2 is just about to go to work.
Boy #1 went home fairly late last night around 9.30pmish, I had already gone to la la land by then.
I shall go and fossick in the kitchen, and make a cup a soup for myself, being lunchtime. I think I can handle making that.
Later Aligater, thanks for the well wishes. ♥

I can tell already that tomorrow I'm going to ache in places I didn't know I had! We detailed the cars this afternoon and it brought home to me how little exercise I have been doing... So self inflicted aching!
Heidi, hope you get the bull and the cow/heifer you want at the auction.
Rolanda, glad to hear you are resting, sorry to hear you are achey....
Tami, thanks for looking that up. Paige has posted on fb that 'today wasn't a good day'. I don't know if today was test day or if she was feeling sad about her mom.
