I did a market research thing this morning (worth $60 (when I have finished trialing the product) and then decided to have some photos printed. Reduced my 800to 480 and Ken's to about 400. Still a lot I could have done without. Will pick up Ken's tomorrow and then cull again before putting them into an albumn. Spent over 4 hours in the photo shop!

Rolanda, hope you are soon feeling much better. I do hope the family are giving you the same care you would give them.
Belinda cleared up all the requests etc on the FB for me. Sharon is away this weekend and Belinda is looking after her interests. I am still asking why I got involved!

OH what a lovely day out today. I need to go for a walk and find some thing to do outside, to enjoy it. Not yet warm enough to just sit outside I do not think, perhaps a bit later in a sunny spot.
We were out yesterday and I was looking at trees. There is some tree here, I do not know what kind, but buds open to redish first leaves and they are beginning to open, they are the earliest things to show life, we shall have spring. I could tell the pear trees have swollen buds, so blooms are not far behind. I have a feeling once it starts this year, spring will burst out all over all at once. Hopefully it being so late this year, we will not have things getting zapped by a late freeze. The peach trees were not even close yet, usually I can see a pink tinge over the peach orchards well before this time as sap rises to branch tips well before buds swell, no pink showing yet. Maybe growers will have a good year this year, I do hope so. About time for a record crop. I am ready for spring, can you tell?? We are still getting below freezing temps at night, there was ice in a pail of water on the porch, kitty watering pail, till well after noon yesterday.
Heidi, good luck at the sale today, hope you get the bull of your choice.
Rolanda, how was the soup? Hope the sore is better and hubby comes home with your dinner.
June glad your Facebook has been sorted out for you.
I have forgotten what else I read, sorry, and it os back on other page, if I go back I will loose this. Later friends, time to get something done, it is almost noon here, time is hurrying by and I am accomplishing nuttin. I must plan dinner and thaw something, do not think I could arrange dinner out 2 times in a row. We had oriental buffet at a nice place last night, one where not ALL the food has sugar added! I had some lovely steamed veg and some seafood, really enjoyed. Al ate too much got his money's worth, came home and dozed in his chair. Really exciting huh??
I will check back later, hugs to all, and get well wishes to those who need them.

I'm baaaaack!
I got the bull I wanted (sired by the #1 Red Angus bull in Canada) and the heifer who's a great granddaughter of a bull I used to own. I am happy.
BUT.... when I got home, I found that all H*LL had broken out here. A bred registered Red Angus heifer had gone into labor.... the calf was dead in her so she couldn't get it out. IH and a neighbor had to pull it out, and once it was out, the heifer kept pushing and pushed her uterus out of her body!!!
The Vet arrived here just after I got home from the auction. The poor heifer had to have her uterus pushed back in, and stitched in to heal... she was given IV antibiotics, cortisone and calcium, because she was in serious shock. Her back legs are paralyzed ... hopefully temporarily.

Morning all!
6.30am, 21C and 100% humidity...
June, that will be one amazing photo album when you're done. You have some great photos!
MizT, I hope you got your walk outside in the almost spring weather. Your dinner out sounds fun. Now that I'm not 20 anymore, that's what mine tend to be like too...
Heidi, the poor heifer! I can't imagine how painful that was for her. I hope she is not paralysed and that she is no longer in physical pain.

I finally remembered to do a search on a local business person - names will be changed to protect the innocent. This guy calls himself 'Blind Sam the Computer Man'. I wondered if he meant he didn't look for 'stuff' on your hard drive and was a little concerned about what that meant. Turns out he really is legally blind! 6:60 vision on a good day! He explains on his website how he manages his business and works on computers with this level of vision. Incredible that someone with this type of problem has found a way to do what he loves.

It's supposed to be bad again tomorrow down there. Was it flooded anywhere near you? I'm not good on geography but it seemed that the worst of it was inland and away from you.

No only minor flooding across the roads near me Zusy, you are right most of it was further inland and looks like our dams are full now.

Hello, Everyone!
Hi, Suzy, June, MizTricia, Heidi, vdV, and Broni (all here since my last post)!
Suzy, thanks for the link! What a LOT of hail fell! Interesting story about "Blind Sam." I guess those who want to work can find something to do!
June, your market research thing sounds interesting/fun and profitable!
MizT, I hope you had a good day and possibly lovely walk! We're having sunny days with temperatures near 40 *F. We can actually see some brown grass in a few places, so our yard is no longer completely covered in snow.
Heidi, I'm so pleased to hear that you were able to buy the bull and heifer you wanted! That poor heifer who had the stillborn calf! What a trauma. I hope she survives and recovers without permanent damage! I guess maybe IH "earned his keep" a little today. At least he didn't hide in the house!
vdV, I hope you're able to get some sleep in addition to everything else while you're in San Diego! I can't imagine flying that far without at least being able to get a nap or two!
WOOT! Broni's back and can post at will! Just keep an eye on your minutes this month - and do your major posting from work!
Ffuts to do now! Hope to be back later!

Yes, I am pleased that IH helped out today. He does occasionally act like a caring human being. I have a bad feeling about the heifer (#34A), though. She just had to be helped onto her chest again, and propped up with a hay roll. She has no interest in eating or drinking. I believe that she's given up. I don't expect her to make it through the night.
So far, this has not been a good year. Melony, Lucky, Chili, 4 calves and probably this heifer as well. Unfortunately, if you have animals, you're gonna lose some. But I hate this part of it.

Guess it was just their time Heidi, I know it doesn't make it any easier.
Julie will have no problems with minutes now, I foolishly changed my plan last month, will go back to the old plan and will never have a problem again.

Kinda tender. I just had to wrestle with another calf... one of the calves that got separated from it's mother when IH "helped" me. I finally got it back with mama. He had actually separated 8 cow/calf pairs!

Cut/paste from easy-
A day like yesterday I never want to go through again!
About 3pm we decided to pop down to the shops and got caught in the worst hailstorm I have ever seen.
The result-my husband's car will probably have to be written off. Both front and rear windscreens smashed and every panel looking like someone got to it with a hammer.
The hailstones were the size of golf balls, and were hitting the car so hard it was as if they had been shot from cannons.
I have never heard such a frightful noise.
BTW I was driving!

It sounds nightmarish, Gail. I can't imagine that happening while driving. It sounds like being under fire in a war zone. I wonder how many other cars were severely damaged in that hailstorm.

There were a lot of cars parked in the same spot Heidi, but the one we felt most sorry for (apart from ourselves) was a couple in a soft top convertible! According to the news reports, there are a LOT of reports of car and house damage.

Oh forgot to tell you that the reason I changed internet plans was I now have a wireless connection at home for my laptop, that way Possum and I can use it at the same time. Silly me checked our usage but did not take into account that I was downloading a lot more last month with this travel thingy.

Didn't think I was going to get home. A large building housing 2 businesses was on fire on the south bound side of the highway. All of the highway traffic was diverted through town. It was backed up for at least 2km that I know of, probably more as I only saw the part I was driving. I feel bad for the owners of the businesses who've lost everything and the employees who have lost their jobs...

Gail, did the hail stones go through the top of the convertible? Ouch!
Broni, that was a good idea to get a connection you can both use. We're looking at doing that soon too.
Heidi, I'm sorry that it looks like your heifer might not make it. Poor thing.

I'm not sure Suzy, we tried to have a look as we went back passed them, I couldn't see any damage. Hubby said the canvas might have been more resilient that metal, but one tear would have had the thing ripped to shreds.

Just back in from the cow check.
1) It looks like the heifer (34A) might make it. She's finally showing an interest in her surroundings, and in her buddies.
2) We have a nice, healthy new bull calf.
I needed some good news. IH keeps complaining about me having purebred stock... he believes them to be less hardy than the commercial herd. I've been trying to convince him that the commercial herd is such high percentage Red Angus anyway, that they're virtually purebreds. Besides, this is just a corollary of Murphy's Law. The more valuable an animal is, the more likely that something will happen to it.

IH has a point, the mongrel animal is more hardy but he does not take into account your good eye for good stock and you knowledge of the aminal kingdom! Gotta wonder about IH? Hehe! will say no more.

Hello, All! Best wishes for good health and happiness!
Hi, Heidi, Broni, Gail, Suzy (who have posted since my last post) and anyone I've missed!
Heidi, I'm so sorry that the heifer isn't doing well! We'll send along some positive vibes for her. Here's hoping you don't lose any more animals this year! Congratulations on matching up all the cow-calf pairs - I'm sure they're all happier!
Broni, hurray for enough minutes and being able to post as much as you like!
OMG, Gail, what an awful experience with the hail! I've heard of it causing major dents and damaging paint - but the windscreens/windshield is amazing! It must have been frightening driving in that! So sorry to hear about hubby's car!
Suzy, what a shame that those 2 businesses were lost in the fire! I hope they had insurance, but it will still leave people unemployed while/if they rebuild.
Gotta run now - almost 1 AM!
