I had to run to the hardware store. A mistake was made yesterday while installing the trusses. The spacer boards weren't cut correctly, and all the trusses were off by a few inches. ALL the nails holding them on have to be pulled, and the trusses reset. I had to go pick up a couple more cat's paws (a specific kind of nail puller) to speed up the work.

I don't know how George is paying them. I'm paying him for the job, plus I've lent him Robert, who has construction experience. This should only cause a few hours delay, though. The biggest delay is George himself. His knee was hurting pretty badly yesterday... it was so bad this morning that he's off at the Doctor's office.

Brenda, just looked it up, Uxbridge is about 40 km northeast of Toronto. I didn't know there was an Uxbridge in my province. Toronto is about a 4 hour drive for us, not some place we go very often. I hate being in a vehicle when we have to go through Toronto ... scary with all the collector lanes and stuff. Good thing I don't drive (except drive people crazy).
Heidi, sorry about the construction delay but at least you said it's only a few hours. IT IS WHAT IT IS. (who said that?)

I think of it as "Sh*t happens". It's correctable, and not the end of the world.
IH just left for a couple of days at the plant. It's gonna be pleasant here.

Now if it would only warm up a little, here. It's up to 60℉ / 15.5℃, but it's overcast and feels cooler than that.

Hi all,it was lovely to read all of the comments but my brain is still a bit foggy this morning. It is quite cool here too.
Gail. It is what it is!.Hope you sort something out to entertain your visitors.
June. I bet it took a bit of scrubbing to get red lipstick off Laura's face. What a sight that would have been.
I am off to do some puzzles, then on-line course.
Have an enjoyable day everyone.

Sh1t happens works too.
Morning all!
I've woken up ridiculously early again. Sigh. Not as early as you Nola! Is the on-line course at a fixed time or do you do it when you have time available?
It is less than a minute since I finished reading and I'm sitting here scratching my head! I miss my brain!
I have been to Toronto, sort of. When I list places I've been I don't really count it. Hubby and I went there for a long weekend many, many years ago. Everything was closed and although we did some exploration we pretty much saw the inside of the hotel.

Tami, I laughed about you blaming the campers for your troublemaking. My imagination is going wild!
Vicki, I too don't like working when there isn't enough to do.
June, I love the lipstick story. Ebob used to climb onto our toilet to reach my lipstick on the very top shelf of the medicine cabinet (nothing was stopping her) she would then crouch down beside our bed where we couldn't see her and draw all over the wall. Mirrors were a favourite target too. I will have to search out the photo we took of the night they decided to turn each other into tigers - with permanent marker...

Suzy...the on-line lectures are at set times.I swap a lot of shifts from earlies to lates as I did yesterday. It makes for a long day being on-line for 4 hrs in the morning then rushing to work to start at 1.30pm.Slept from 11-4 today, done some puzzles and started the last assignment. Now I have 3 days off after today.
Off to brothers for tea tonight...don't know when I will get a chance to get into the garden.
We need some rain,it is overcast so promising.

Hi all.
Suzy, CIT position is considered a volunteer so he won't get paid until he is 16. He can get a job at 14 as a bag boy in the grocery store. We will see. I want him to enjoy being a kid.
Went on a field trip today. It was a play about mathematics. The main character is a teenage girl who does not want to study for her algebra test. She gets a visit from Albert Einstein who teaches her the importance of math. He brings some of his friends to visit: Pythagoras, Fibonacci, Charles Babbage, Ava Lovelace. They all talk about math.

Tami, Ally wants a job as soon as she can get it so she can save up for all of the things she wants. I actually think 16 is a better age as I agree with you about being a kid. I like Ebob's job as she mostly only does one shift a week. And I think volunteering is good for them. Ally is volunteering most of the time when she sings and Ebob volunteers with St Johns.

Suzy, I understand how Ally feels. I got my first job at 14.5 and save enough money to buy my first car at 16.5 I also bought most of my clothes, if I paid for it my parents did not argue too much about what I wore. I also started babysitting, and earning money, at 11.

Suzy - I think my brain has gone wherever yours did - I can't remember much. Now what was there - Heidi's having troubles with construction, Nola's studying and working hard and not getting much sleep, Theresa doesn't drive, Suzy's done her chores for the morning, Tami went to a mathematics play, MizT had a good nights sleep and 'It is what it is'

Now I have a problem, maybe someone can give me some advice.
My seperated son, who seems to be a sucker for online dating sites and has already met and shaken off a psycho, a bunny-boiler and a desperado, now has a new woman in his life - he hasn't met her yet. She is supposedly Venezualean/Australian but both parents are dead. She supposedly deals in arts and antiques and has been in the UK purchasing for her soon-to-be opened store here in Brisbane. Now, while he was here last night she sent him a text saying she was about to board the plane at Heathrow - Masterchef had just started so it was about 7.40PM. This morning he posted on FB that she rang him from Singapore at 3AM. I just checked Wikipedia and the quickest flight from London to Singapore is 12 hours 45 mins. (I checked because I have done that flight and my memory was about 13 hours). Do the maths 7.40Pm to 3AM = 7 hours 20 mins. I don't think so! What could she be up to? She must know that he doesn't have much money after the split. Why lie? We're going to talk to him tonight because he is due to meet her on Saturday night.
I've tried to tell him to leave these sites alone and that the right person will come along when he least expects it! BTW, she's supposedly not even on FB - what 31yo isn't?
If this is a scam, what is she up to??

Hi everyone!
Great encapsulation CynB.
Nothing exciting happening here or at home at the moment.
I had to put petrol in the car today. Boy is it expensive. Today is the cheapest day in the fuel cycle and it was $1.22.5 per litre (including the 4c discount). It costs me about $50 per week to fill up. Hubby's car uses Premium Unleaded and costs around $70 to fill. I think I need to buy shares in the fuel companies.

Cyn if I was your son I would be very wary. He might not have much money but he could be suckered into taking out a loan on her behalf. She may even try to take what little he has left.
I'm with you on this one - wait until he meets a lady face to face first. There are any number of single women (single mothers)out there looking for partners. He needs to leave his computer and go out and meet some. He could try some of the socials at the Parents without Partners.

Cynthia.. I'd would be checking airlines.. ie Singapore, Qantas, British Airways, to see what time they leave Heathrow, and what time they land in Singapore.
Check to see if Heathrow was opened, and not closed because of Volcano Ash for the time of the supposed flight departure.
Check/Ask.. Son's mobile for the 'mobile number of this girl, to see if it has the international phone codes ie . if it is a English Mobile it should read +44 before her mobile number, Australian +61, from Holland #31, Venezualean #??...., Whatever the code is.. it should be there. If no code then the message came from within Australia. (even with a code the call could still come from Australia....

Yep, Vicki, exactly what came into our minds.
She's told him she's deeply religious - well, I'm not so, I have my beliefs for sure, but one thing I did learn at Sunday School is not to tell lies!!! And getting from London to singapore that quickly is one big porky pie!!

Yes, June - how do you tell a 39yo 6ft4in son that a woman he's falling for is all smoke and mirrors?
Rolanda - According to her, she lives in Brisbane so her mobile would be Australian. I don't think it shows that it's coming from overseas. I just checked my call log and calls I've received from my sister while she's been in the UK just show as her usual mobile number.

Cyn, I also agree that he should proceed with caution. The flight time makes no sense to me. It sounds like she is not all she appears to be. I do know a few 30 somethings who are not on FB. They just do not care about computers.

Cyn, a friend of a sister has just gone through something similar. Tell him to beware...sooner or later she will ask for money! Unexpected fees for country entry, postage due, anything.
This person I know of was wooed by someone who 'was in the American forces, had heaps pf money, and was going to come to Australia to buy a big expensive house in Brisbane', but of course there were problems! He needed her to put up some money for something or other, and to expect a diplomatic pouch containing $1mill, so she could go buy the house... Need I say more?
She borrowed from friends and family, and found herself out of pocket to the tune of a few thousand. Personally, I think she got off lightly!
Don't trust this new love.
