Hey Nola! You're still around. I was just thinking about getting out this morning, if it stops raining, with the secateurs. The weeds will be easier to pull too if this rain has penetrated at all.

Good morning everyone!
I'm just dropping in quickly. I need to beat Shaun to the shower.
The computer didn't make it back to work yesterday so we were very lost. Did you know that there is only so many games of Spider Solitaire that you can play before you become very bored.
The computer guy tells us that he will have the server back early today. Yeah, right, sure!
Brenda, Mermaid Waters is just down the road for us Brissie girls. It will be great to meet you.
Gotta run. I hope to catch up later.

So much for that nap, too. We ended up putting up the trusses after all. It took 5 of us. I let George drive the tractor instead of me, because his knee was hurting. I did the ground work (Hooking the trusses to the boom, guiding the trusses, and directing the tractor.) At least THAT job is done.

Good morning lovely people.
Brenda - yea, Mermaid Waters - a hop, skip and a jump down the road - Redlands is between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Looking forward to meeting you already.
Vicki - I know the feeling of only being able to play spider solitaire etc - that's what I resorted to last week.
Heidi - glad the dentist was happy with the healing in your mouth.
MizT - glad you slept better last night (wish I had!)
Suzy - I'm a bit of a head-in-the-sand girl and trying not to think of the eventual outcome for Vi - while she's OK, I'm OK. When my cousin Christine (Vi's daughter) was dying, I was in denial and really only faced it in her last few weeks.

bye bye car... :(
Getting just a little tired of seeing our cars get hauled off on the back of towtrucks!
The bloke was great and very sensitive, so now it is just the waiting game to hear how long and when.
Timing couldn;t have been worse of course, we have friends coming to stay for the weekend, and with hubby needing his car, I was going to be doing a lot of the touristy stuff...in my car! Heaven only knows what we are going to do now, as the car I will be driving for the next few weeks is only for local stuff (needs too much doing to it to risk taking it out on long drives).

Gail, I knew that Hannah would be ok. An ouchie to the car is unfortunate but it may turn into a good thing. She will realize how dangerous driving can be and maybe it will keep her more observant. I am sure she will end up fine. When my older brother was about 21 he was in a rather serious car accident (not his fault). He was fine. My father, knowing he might be scared to drive, made him drive him to the store that night. He wanted to make sure my brother would not have that fear.

Sending good vibes to all who need them. I am going to watch American Idol with the boys and get ready for bed.
Julie, the last day for the students is June 8 and for me is June 9. I have a training class from June 14-16. Counselors start camp on the 16th (I am excused) and the kids start on June 21. Dylan will be a camper and Mitchell a CIT.

Gail, a rental car! Our insurance covered one when hubby wrote ours off.
I have a 'get back on the horse' story - WARNING: ANECDOTE. I was riding my motorbike down my street with a passenger. I saw some kids playing a ball game on the street so I slowed right down. The kids separated and left a gap for me to ride through. The ball bounced in front of the bike. A kid chased the ball... I slammed on the brakes and ended up going so slowly that my passenger actually stood up to get off the bike, but there was no way I could avoid the little boy as he was RIGHT THERE. There was no time to steer away or anything. I was heartbroken. The little boy got some grazes and a black eye. There were several families who went motorbike riding with my father and brothers living around there. After we'd established all was okay and the little boy had gone home they advised me to get back on the bike and ride. I rode around the block back to home. I cried so much my eyes nearly fell out. Which was how I looked when the policeman came to the door to interview me about the accusation that I had aimed for this little boy because he was aboriginal.

I once hit a kid on a bike in the car park of a shopping centre/mall years ago. Two boys were riding their bikes through the rows of cars and even though I was driving slowly, looking for a space, he shot out from between 2 cars just in front of my car. He was alright but the bike was bent. I was in tears, to which he said - 'Don't worry lady, it was my fault' and trotted off pushing his bent bike. He'd be grown up now. I hope he survived and learnt the road rules.

Hi Cyn and Heidi!
Cyn, when I see kids doing stupid things on the roads around here that's what I say to them - if you don't care about your own life can you at least consider the people who are going to hit you. They have to live with killing you.
Heidi, that type of accusation would be taken very seriously here Heidi, particularly back then when it was common to call aboriginals 'boongs' (I think I have that right) because it was the sound they make when they hit the bullbar. I wish I could remember the law that was still valid during my lifetime - not allowed to own property or not allowed to vote??? Once the policeman spoke to me he realised it was not true and I just got a lecture. He probably knew that before he came out, but he had to come.

Everyone - or is it
It's almost 10 p.m. here. I'm not quite sure when evening ends and night begins.
Hello, Gail, CynB, Suzy, Rolanda, Theresa, June, Heidi, MizTricia, Brenda, Nola, Vicki, Tami and anyone I've missed!
Gail, I'm so sorry to hear about Hannah's "fender-bender." The good news is that neither she nor you was injured and no damage to the other car involved. Too bad your car got an ouchie! Is it bad enough to take for repair? At least she's had the first "accident," so hopefully she can now concentrate on very careful, safe driving and anticipating other drivers. I hope she can get behind the wheel again SOON! Hugs to both of you!
Theresa, it must smell heavenly around your house when the lilacs are in bloom! I just found out there is a lilac that will rebloom! I hope you had a wongerful time with your sisters today!
June, I'm so glad hubby will soon be home - hopefully he'll be able to stay home for a while! I hope the much-needed rain doesn't impact his arrival!
Rolanda, I hope your bus day was productive! Hoping all news is good news for your Mum! Sleep well!
MizT, I hope your hand is comfortable today and not overworked when feeding the sloshy thing!
Brenda, I hope you and hubby have a wonderful time away this weekend!
Heidi, your mouth must heal amazingly well, based on your dentist's comments! I was going to say that YOU must heal amazingly well, but I seem to remember your hand taking quite a while to get back to normal.
I am so impressed that the trusses for the new barn are set! You certainly had a big job, especially handing up all the 2 by 4's!
Suzy, so sorry that Ebob wasn't feeling well and couldn't go on the excursion today. On the other hand, if she already knows what direction she wants to go with her education, it probably doesn't make a difference. It's interesting that both of your girls have taken an interest in learning about the Northridge quake!
Nola, I hope it feels good to say that you will be done with your coursework by the time Brenda can visit. At least the end is in sight. Hopefully your DIL can help you with your garden soon!
Vicki, so sorry you had a day without the server! Doesn't it seem harder and more draining on the days when you can't get the work done because the computer is down - or on days when there isn't enough work? Fingers crossed for tomorrow!
I'm enjoying reading the plans already beginning to develop for Brenda and Richard's visit next year!
Gail, Suzy's suggestion for a rental car sounds like a good idea, especially if insurance can pay for it! Hopefully needed repairs can be done quickly!
Tami, I'm glad you will at least get a few days off between school and camp! If Mitchell is a Counselor in Training, will he at least earn a little money - or is it considered a volunteer position?
Suzy, how awful to have been accused of aiming at the little boy! Wasn't it bad enough without that! Ho

Let me try again with the end of my post:
Suzy, how awful to have been accused of aiming at the little boy! Wasn't it bad enough without that! How traumatic for you! I'm so glad you were going so slowly so that there were no major injuries!
Vicki, I'm so glad you could actually "work" at work today!
Good Night, Heidi! Sleep well!
It's approaching 11 p.m. here. Since we were up before 5:30 a.m. this morning, I think I'll call it a night as well! Good Night from here! Good afternoon and evening to those down under! Enjoy the rest of your day!

Popping in and popping out...
Julie, the girls are interested in the quake because we were in it. Far enough away that we only lost a few flower pots, but we have told them the story several times, especially the bit about the race to get to Ebob and the chest of drawers missing us by () much.

Unfortunately, my insurance policy doesn't have a hire car thingy.
Just letting you know, 'she got back on the horse that threw her'! Only around the oval carpark but at least we have crossed that bridge.
Yes Julie, it definitely needed to go to the doctor. I really don't like seeing our cars being hauled off on the back of trucks! The right hand tyre was what was hit and it has broken the something in the steering. The towie wondered how on earth I had managed to get it home...didn't realise I wasn't meant to be able to! It certainly wasn't a pleasant drive home. He said I really should have left the car at the scene, but as I told him, I really needed to get Hannah home, she was very traumatised. Glad she wasn't home this morning to see the car being taken away...

Bugger Gail. With the extra one and a semi-retired hubby you probably wouldn't normally need one. I can imagine that Hannah was traumatised! That was a horrible thing to happen to a learner! I think I would have tried to get it home too.

Hubby home. Had a couple of hours sleep and went to bowls.
I had Laura today. Took her to her Physi class and the drove her to her other grandma where her parents were going for dinner. It was dark when i wen to get Laura out of the car and what a sight met my eyes. She had been fishing in my bag and got out the lipstick. From her eyes down her face was dark red!!! Unfortunately I did not have my camera with me. Sharon discreetly kept laughing when she saw her. Laura had walked into the house with a paper towel over her face because I had told her it was naughty and she headed for the bathroom to wash her face.

Morning all.
MizT, my antique containers have drainage holes, but on the bottom only. I will remember your suggesetion for any new containers I get about putting them on the sides ... that really makes sense. Thanks as always. I have been using crushed plastic water bottles for the bottom layer - that way they can just be rinsed and put in the recycling bin when I change the containers.
Brenda, enjoy your weekend. BTW, trip to Australia ... that would be a trip of a lifetime to me. Have you been before?

Nola, I am having difficulty keeping up with the yard work. When the weather is nice I either have too much work or I'm too sore; when I have the time it's raining. My daughter has no interest at all in plants, so no help there.
Vicki, back in the 80's I had one job where there just wasn't enough work and the days were soooo long. I kept cleaning out the filing cabinets just for something to do and went from three cabinets to two. I knew it was time to move on then because I just couldn't take the coredom any more.
Heidi, hope you're not sore today from all the construction stuff yesterday. What a relief it must be to see such progress on the barn.
Gail, what a time not to have a vehicle at your disposal! Isn't that always the way though? Nasty things happen when you least need them to, although I guess no time is good for nasty stuff.
Julie, I've never heard of a reblooming lilac, but that would be wongerful to have! Must check it out and see if we're in the right zone.

There, have caught up with the reading! My sisters and I had a good time yesterday walking around all the little shops in the small village. A lot of the shops (artsy type) had a dog or cat living there ... so needless to say I spent time with the four legged "people" while my sisters shopped. There were a lot of things I would have liked to have, but just way too pricey for me. Some day .......
With all the walking yesterday, when I got home my back was aching and I had a bit of trouble manoeuvering. I took some Tylenol and slept with the hot water bottle and felt much better this morning. Still a bit stiff and achey, but at least manageable.
I may have a bit of trouble with someone in our neighbourhood who I think is mistreating his dog. I'm not sure where he lives, but he walks by our place at least once a day. Yesterday morning I was sitting at the computer where there is a big window. He pulled the dog's leash so hard that the dog yelped. I was in my pajamas (we live on a fairly busy street), so I didn't go out. Then last night I saw him walking the dog, but the dog's front legs were off the pavement a few inches and the dog was walking on his hind legs. Someone told me that this dog is particularly rambunctious and the guy is trying to train him. I don't think that's a proper way to go about this. I am trying to find out where he lives so I can phone the animal by-law fellow and let him know I think the dog is being abused. I'll be keeping my eye on him ... I think he's just too stern with the dog.

Theresa, I haven't been to Australia before even though I have relatives living there. It will be a trip of a lifetime which is why we are going to stay 6 weeks. The step daughters wedding has just brought the holiday forward a couple of years.
I have been to Canada 3 times before and plan to go again someday. My husband has a cousin living not too far from you in Uxbridge, we have never been to that side of the country, we have always gone to Alberta.
