Weaning baby finches..... the parents are about done weaning them, and they're eating on their own. I just have to move them to another cage so they stop pestering parents for food that they won't be given. It's easier to catch them once the lights are out, since they fall asleep and don't panic when I reach for them.

Good Afternoon my friends.
Julie, thanks for the summary and good to hear what you are up to.
Heidi, hope you found an appropriate place for Jojo. Know what you mean about it not getting any easier to lose a companion and friend.
Brenda, great news to hear you are coming 'down under'
Thought of you all as I read.
Beautiful sunny day here, even D&D cannot bring down how good I feel.
Love and Hugs.

Julie, still must buy mt shirts and T's in plus size. Partly from being a triple D and part from a belly that still needs shrinking. that's reason I need elastic waist, too.

Julie, glad you asked about how ya wean finches. I did think separating them from parents might be part of it, cause that is how Heidi weans calves.

getting sleepy, hope hand eases soon, I want my bed, but would toss and turn if I go now. Hugs to all.

I turned the lights out and caught those 6 babies already. Stumpy (the baby finch missing the 3 toes) is one of them. He/she is doing remarkably well. You'd never realize that it's handicapped.

MizT - hope the pain meds help your hand soon so you can sleep well.
Broni - it is a lovely day here today, isn't it. Much better than Sunday.
Julie - that is Vi's attitude - It is what it is (and I'll deal with it when I have to - too much else to do now!)
Oh well - off to do some errands and have a coffee.

Hello to Heidi, Broni and MizT!

Heidi, when it comes to landscaping, hubby isn't much into "flowers," though we have some day lilies. Iris are too fussy for him. But at least he's now considering a color other than green for plants. Thanks for explaining what you do to speed the weaning process for your finches. You must have a lot of cages.

Broni, I'm so glad you're having a good day, one that even D & D can't ruin! Enjoy the rest of the day!

MizT, I hope your hand is feeling better with each day!

Gail, we haven't heard how your sister is doing recently! I hope her healing is going well!

Tami, just remembered your comment about 15 more school days. Is your last day June 7? How soon after that do you start working with the camp program? You are a busy lady!

I'm hoping to get to bed before 10:30 (another 10 minutes), as we need to be up by 5:30 to get to an 8:00 appointment tomorrow. Good Night, Ladies (and any Gent who may fly by)! Hope to see everyone tomorrow!

I didn't do nuffin, apart from be the licensed person in a car driven by a learner...
Poor Hannah, she was in such a state, but there is absolutely no blame apportioned to an inexperienced driver. This time it was my car, not hubby's (the hail-damaged one). She was turning out of the oval driveway and couldn't straighten up quickly enough and just clipped another car coming in the opposite direction. No-one was hurt, and there was no damage to the other car as far as we could tell, but my car is another story...

Poor Hannah! So glad no one was injured! This is not the sort of thing you want to happen to your learner driver so early in their learning...

Hugs to you and Hannah!

She certainly doesn't want to drive again, but I told her that feeling will go away soon enough, I have no problem with it, so as soon as she is ready...and I have a car...she will try again.

The best thing to do is try again as soon as you can get her in the car. Tell her lightning doesn't strike twice!

Morning all,

Rolanda, glad all went well with your MIL.

Cyn, your auntie Vi has spunk!

Heidi, what do you do with all the birds? I was just wondering if you sell some or do they have a "forever home" with you?

MizT, not sure when I'll make it to your place to see the wave petunias, but thanks for thinking of me. This coming weekend is a long weekend and the time of year when the planting gets done for us. I need to make one special purchase, but I will need the nursery's advice. I need a climbing plant in an area that receives only sun in the morning. Hubby will help with the heavy stuff and I will be putting a lot of things in pots. Over the years I have collected antique (some just old) containers from the farm, etc. So the yard will probably be a mish-mash ... here's hoping it will look okay. Also want to plant peas for the grandies to take care of, so will have to cultivate a small area along the fence.

We have tons of lilacs, which are almost finished for the season. We have lilac bushes all along the back fence, and we have some beside our house also. I just wish they would bloom longer.

Gail, sorry about your car's "ouchie" but glad no one was hurt.

I'm up early to get some of my work done. Today is the day I spend with my sisters, so I will be a bit behind in my work. It's all worth it though.

Off to feed the indoor kitties, but I'll wait until it's light out to feed the outside ones. I know there are skunks and racoons in the neighbourhood and I don't really want to run into any.

Hope everyone has a great day/evening/night!

Theresa, hubby had a pet racoon when he was a youngun. He tells a story about it disappearing one day. Months later he woke up in the middle of the night to find it sitting on his chest! Freaked him out just a little.

Gail, poor car, poor Hannah, and poor Gail without a car. Hugs to you all.
Hubby's plane should leave Singapore in about 10 minutes. It will be nice to have him home again tomorrow.
No bowls today as we had lots of lovely rain. Much needed as the garden was getting very dry.

Gail... I bet Hannah is emotionally shaken from her first. That's a good thing. She now understands that cars are not playthings. She'll also be a more defensive driver. I hope the "ouchie" on your care can be fixed easily.

good morning sudoku friends! Slept well. feeling better this morning, thanks for the well wishes. I have the sloshy thing going, will get hubby to hang them on coat hangers (what do Aussies call those?) and put them outside for me.

Heidi, be careful with the 30 min nap, you might miss your appointment.

June, happy you have much needed rain.

Gail, hope Hanna is ready to get back in the car quickly and get on with learning. so glad noone hurt.

Theresa, do your antique containers have drainage holes? If you have to make your own holes, I have found placing them about one inch up on the side is sort of like having a reservoir of water. If they are large containers, I fill that bottom with packing peanuts. Good drainage and liter container.

spinny thing is calling me, that end of cycle buzzer is annoying. Later, Hugs.

To answer Suzy's question from the other page... BOTH sides (we plan to be there for 6 weeks) Wedding is in the Mermaid Water's area, so we will probably go there first. As to planning the trip we would love as much help as possible as we realise the locals will know the best places to go No dates arranged yet apart from knowing that the wedding is planned for the 3rd August next year.

Hi Mizt, I thought the same about Heidi's 30min nap. I had stupidly typed a long post, went to look something up and didn't open a new window so lost everything.
Richard and I are going away this weekend for a couple of nights. We are going to Somerset, The Old Pound Inn at Aller. We have both visited this area when we were young but have never been there together. Looking at the long range forecast the weather is supposed to be warmer than we have been having.
While we are busy planning places to go we have decided to go to a music festival this August. It's the Fairport Convention Cropredy convention a 3 day event. Fortunately we can take the caravan I don't think I could cope with camping in a tent nowadays.

Gail, hope Hannah gets back into the car to drive soon. She now knows that it isn't as easy as it looks and her 'Ouchie' was a minor one where no one was hurt (apart from Gail's poor car.) Elaine had a similar one when she started out, didn't involve anyone else though she did buckle the wheel on the car.

The 30 minute nap didn't happen, anyway. Too many phone calls and visitors.
The Dentist was amazed at the surgical site. She said that she couldn't even tell that it had been done, it's healed so quickly.
We were supposed to put the trusses up today, but everything has been slowed down by the rain here. Tomorrow will be a nice day, so we're doing it then.

Up before dawn.... Ebob has a school excursion and has to be at the train station by 6am. The girls are going to Sydney to be told why they should be engineers. Apparently fewer girls are doing engineering now than when I went through 25 years ago!

Hi all.
Brenda, that is fantastic news that you are coming to Australia. My sister Carol lives a few klms from Mermaid Waters so I will make a tentative booking to come and see you.By then, I will have finished the course.I am never on FB so I can't tell your secret.
Heidi,feeling sorry for you after JoJo's death.RIP
Good to hear that your mouth is healing well but not without being sick.
Gail..the car accident would really scare Hannah, glad no one was hurt.
Cyn,Aunty Vi has a lovely outlook on life.Hope she can really enjoy it & live it to the full.

I'm still thinking about poor Hannah and poor Gail! I hope you are both feeling less shaken up this morning.

Brenda - yay! With 6 weeks here you should be able to catch up with a tonne of us!! Mermaid Waters is a good one for our Queensland folk..

Okay false alarm. Ebob is nauseous and dizzy. 3 hours on the bus feeling sick didn't appeal to her, I don't know why. She has already decided what she wants to do anyway, and it's not engineering. Definitely not following in her mother's footsteps.

Cyn, your Aunty Vi... I love that she is going to 'live' every minute, I love her positive attitude to life, it is an inspiration. I am sending a tonne of hugs to you for how you must be feeling about her illness. It would take some getting used to.

June, glad to hear your hubby would be home by now. He must be exhausted and you both must want a little bit of 'routine' time to catch up with yourselves.

Vicki, glad you made it out of the office in plenty of time. Good thinking sneaking your shopping in!

I have just noticed that Ally has left a file open on this computer. She is working on research for an assessment task on Friday. It is on natural disasters and they have to choose one, and of course she chose the Northridge 'quake, like her sister before her. I remember Ebob being 'soooo' embarrassed because everyone found out she was 'in' the earthquake and asked her all about it. She was teeny tiny and has no memory of it at all!!
