Alyssa came home yesterday full of her experience in music class. She was a bit incredulous and very very flattered. Apparently all around the room are instruments and her fellow classmates were playing piano, keyboard, drums etc etc. She picked up one of the beaten up guitars that they have (high school students treat school property so well) and started playing and singing the songs she has been teaching herself. Apparently most of the class ended up sitting on the desks around her, with the front row recording her with their Iphones and saying they were going to put it on youtube. She asked them not to but was bursting with pride when she got home.

When I get a geek who is vid-capable, I will post that video! Remember the quality is cr*p...
Hubby taped last night's performance on his iPhone, but we haven't played it back, and he's out for the day.

ROFL - I had Grinspoon playing and Mum walked in and said 'what are you doing'. I explained that I was listening to a song that a friend's daughter had performed the night before. 'She's not very good' says Mum. I was listening to the original recording!!!! How could she think it was a girl anyway??

Well she's having a nap. I'm still shaking my head. 'Mum that's the original, they've made millions of dollars singing like that'. 'Oh.'

She likes stuff like Andre Rieu and Susan Boyle. That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it.

Broni, quick recap. 18 months ago my van was vandalized. 6 of 8 windows were smashed. Van had some strange scratches finally figured out it was do to the interior door panels not being reinstalled correctly. When doors where sliding open, the panels were scratching car. Insurance company guarantees the repairs so they gave me a rental and are fixing the van.

Suzy, I know how you feel about mum's visit. My mom lives close and she is a neat freak. She gave up on me years ago. When Mitchell was a baby hubby traveled for work. If I had to work late, mom would come babysit. She would do Mitchell's laundry, staighten up and anything else she had time for. Now hubby does most of house krow as I am allergic to gninaelc.
Cyn, glad to hear Emily is feeling better.
Don't remember anything else.
Spoke to Suzanne last night. Parents were flying to Utah for a visit. First time they have been to Utah. I will update with details as I hear from Suzanne.
Tomorrow is a field day for my 7th grade students which means I will be playing games all day. There are only 3 days of school left next week and then summer vacation.

Excellent Early Evening, Everyone!

Hi, Suzy, Vicki, Rolanda, CynB, Broni, Gail, June, V Viv, MizTricia, Theresa, Heidi, Tami and anyone I may have missed!

Suzy, hoping all is going well at the beginning of your Mum's visit. WE'LL take you as you are, just in case she doesn't!

Vicki, that's so sad about your 2 cousins who committed suicide. What a terrible loss for the family! It seems that we didn't hear so much about it years ago. I don't know if the rates have gone up, or if the reporting of it has gone up.

Rolanda, sending positive SA vibes right back at you! I hope all is well!

Cyn, good news that Emily is feeling better! I agree with others - so glad I didn't need to clean the car!

Broni, thanks for clearing up our confusion! So - it's one day a week still as back-up for D&D until the end of June and 4 days a week unofficially at your previous/new employer. Starting in July, will you be 4 or 5 days a week with the previous/new employer? Inquiring minds, you know.

Gail, woo hoo for getting the car back! How does it look? How does it drive? I hope everything is perfect!

June, how wonderful that you can take MIL out for lunch on her birthday AND get 96% off the price! What a bonus! How great of you to volunteer the potato bake for the club BBQ! Wait - a kilo of onions? Do you have the special goggles for cutting onions? I'm sure it will be tasty! I will be thinking quietly and sending positive vibes for your 'friend' who has a very big and important test tomorrow! Also sending lots of prayers for a reasonable result. (12:30 tomorrow!)

Viv, I hope you have dried out from your Avon deliveries! The rhubarb and apple crumble sounds yummy - a nice thank-you for the homemade soup, I think! Hope things are going well for your gf.

MizT, if I know you as I think I do, your hand will be back to "normal" in less than 3 months. The trick is to follow instructions, doing the exercises and icing that is recommended. If they say 3 repetitions of 10, you can stretch it to 3 repetitions of 12, but don't make it 5 repetitions of 20! (Speaking from experience here.) Also, listen to your body. It has important things to say to you. I know you'll do just great!

Gail, watching Hannah rock the house down at a concert for the music class groups sounds impressive! Did you video?

Theresa, that's an important job - and time critical! I'm glad you can grab a nap during the day when necessary. Even so, I don't think I could work through the night. You must need to listen to your body. Too tired could result in critical mistakes. Good luck to you!

Heidi, I hope you had a good nap in order to have the energy to load hay into the new barn!

Tami, so glad that you only have 4 more days of school - and tomorrow is a field day. Wear your sunscreen! Thanks for the update on Suzanne. When you talk to her next, please tell her we hope she has a wonderful visit with her parents!

Off to do some ffuts. See you all later!

Oh, dear, I am really getting to be an old fogey. Guess I need to head to Youtube. I have no idea about Broken and Hard Act to Follow or Grinspoon. Sorry, Suzy, but I know who Andre Rieux and Susan Boyle are - not that I listen to them, but at least I've heard of them.

The kids have a song list that they are allowed to choose from and it is mostly contemporary. I was bopping along to a lot of Nirvana and Silverchair, but hey, that's how I roll!
I said to Hannah this morning that I had also listened to the youtubes of the songs and she did a brilliant job. I said they were 'grunge' songs, and I got the withering look, "They are rock songs, Muuum!"

Well she's up from her nap and got her energy back. Ally is going to be spoken to about her room and 'what's that basket there?'

I wish all Mum did was clean up after me! Hubby wants to visit her so he can rearrange her house while she is out!!

Gail, I think we'd enjoy the same concerts. One of Ally's songs is by Rise Against.

Thank you to those who also admitted not knowing some of the newer singers/groups. I feel a little bit better now - not quite so out-of-the-loop. I think it's harder to keep up when you don't have teens or early 20's around. Thanks, Gail, for the links so that we might educate ourselves!

Tami, I hope you have a good night's sleep and a great day tomorrow! Have fun!

On the page for "Hard Act to Follow" it says it is from the album "Thrills, Kills and Sunday Pills." I was hearing the words "Thrills, Kills and Sunday Pills" in the song. Comments posted follow:
"Grinspoon are a post-grunge band from Australia."
"sick song"
"BAD ASS TUNE!!!!"
"Awesome!"
"Grinspoon are one of those rare bands who could practice a song 100 times but it will always sound better live... Its True Rock and they're in my Veins."

"Broken" by Seether and Amy Lee had this comment:

"This song is fricken AMAZING!!! :) <3<3
This song makes me cry every now and again, but its still amazing, Amy Lee is amazing..and so is Seether. :) <3<3"

Now I'm going to look for a youtube by Rise Against. At least I'll have some idea about what these bands are like if I hear of them again.

I have now listened to "Prayer of the Refugee" and "Saviour" by Rise Against. They seem to be an American rock band (I think) with message songs, based on the 2 I listened to.

lol Julie, the song Ally sings is one Ebob asked her to learn. Tough lyrics to hear a 13 year old sing - I guess you want them to be oblivious to all this stuff until they're old and grey...

Julie, and all else trying to sleep.
The dogs are eating, and I'm heading back to bed as soon as they're done.
The 2 new old-timers are now scheduled to arrive on Sunday. I'm really looking forward to getting them. They're supposedly really sweet.

Lyrics to Hero Of War :
He said, “Son,
Have you see the world?
Well, what would you say
If I said that you could?
Just carry this gun and you’ll even get paid.”
I said, “That sounds pretty good.”

Black leather boots
Spit-shined so bright
They cut off my hair but it looked alright
We marched and we sang
We all became friends
As we learned how to fight

A hero of war
Yeah that’s what I’ll be
And when I come home
They’ll be damn proud of me
I’ll carry this flag
To the grave if I must
Because it’s flag that I love
And a flag that I trust

I kicked in the door
I yelled my commands
The children, they cried
But I got my man
We took him away
A bag over his face
From his family and his friends

They took off his clothes
They p****d in his hands
I told them to stop
But then I joined in
We beat him with guns
And batons not just once
But again and again

A hero of war
Yeah that’s what I’ll be
And when I come home
They’ll be damn proud of me
I’ll carry this flag
To the grave if I must
Because it’s flag that I love
And a flag that I trust

She walked through bullets and haze
I asked her to stop
I begged her to stay
But she pressed on
So I lifted my gun
And I fired away

The shells jumped through the smoke
And into the sand
That the blood now had soaked
She collapsed with a flag in her hand
A flag white as snow

A hero of war
Is that what the see
Just medals and scars
So damn proud of me
And I brought home that flag
Now it gathers dust
But it’s a flag that I love
It’s the only flag I trust

He said, “Son, have you seen the world? Well what would you say, if I said that you could?”

Tami, how long is summer break?
Julie, I will be working 5 days a week 8am till 3ish so still will have time to catch up with my friends. I am just very busy at the moment doing D&D's stuff in one day and still no sign of my replacement but I will be guilt free at the end of June. My new job is still very busy as I did not start until they had been trading for a month so still in catch up mode and trying to get systems in place. Once I get this running smoothly I will be having more fun talking to the old boaties and helping them out.

MIL had gastric and diarrhea so we were not able to go out for lunch. However all the family will be there on Sunday and we are going to the place at Eastwood where the Sudoku gang went when Vici was here.
I peeled the onions leaving the 'roots' on and then sliced them with the food processor. No tears. The bakes are now reheating in the oven.
We have had over 4 inches of rain since last night. What an awful day. Other results will not be till Monday.
