I've just waved goodbye to my brother and his wife who paid us a surprise visit from Canada. The came as a surprise to us on Richard's 50th birthday surprise party.
Now I have to get caught up on swearing around the house.

I read that your guests were leaving on the other page, Brenda. What a wonderful week it has been for you all.
Hubby got up after we had finished all the taping etc and stayed up for a while, but he fell asleep ion the couch quite early then took himself back to bed for a couple of hours nap time. I had an errand to run, so when I got back about noon, he got up and we had lunch. Hope he sleeps well tonight.
Part of the problem is that he is a light sleeper anyway, so the awkwardness of the lines makes it a bit difficult for him to fall asleep and stay there!

I just stuck my head outside a little while ago to see how cold it is, and I heard the sound of coyotes howling in the distance. What a lonesome, spooky, scary sound. We have quite a few in our area, but I've never heard them before here. Thank goodness our yard is fenced in.

I can't imagine having to do that Gail, I toss and turn so much that I would pull lines out. Hopefully he will get used to doing it overnight, but not for too long as a transplant would be so much better for him. We have a friend who had a liver transplant about 8 years ago. Now he takes part in the transplant games .. power walking and the biathlon and has even won gold medals.

This has been one heck of a week. I have been kind of wrapped up in myself and yet have noticed that there has been a lot going on for everyone in here too. I know I have missed ommenting on some of it and I'm very sorry, it feels selfish of me. I'm trying to give myself a bit of a break because it has been kind of a big week for me, buy you guys mean so much to me that when I see a comment that shows that I have missed something important I feel horrible. Hopefully my head will be on straight soon.

Tomorrow will be my first day alone since the stroke and knowing how completely I missed the symptoms myself that is a little scary. I feel silly being nervous, but I am.

Happy belated birthday to Emily an Shaun. Sorry I forgot to send wishes yesterday.
Suzy, you have a right to feel nervous. A stroke is serious business. I think now you might catch the symptoms yourself as you had one already. That does not mean you are going to have another. You are taking better care of yourself and that will make a difference.
Julie, please stop in and give updates about your nephew. Marines are tough guys and I am sure he is a fighter.
Theresa, good wishes for your MIL's sister. Hope she is doing better.

Suzy, we totally understand. I think it's only normal that when you have a stroke, you worry about another one and worry about being alone. Don't worry about us on the site, take care of yourself. We care and I for one wish I could be there in person to help you through this.

I think you have had a very busy week, and the teaching Monday was a big step so soon after the stroke. It's time you did things for yourself (things that you want to do I mean) and let the other people in your life take over some things.

Suzy.... I can only echo what others have said. Talk to us. Let us know if anything is not exactly right. Let us know if you're nervous. Let us know if you need a shoulder to lean on. We'll all do our best. And don't worry about the others in your life. They can shoulder some of the responsibility for once. It won't kill them, only help them. And if it isn't done, it's not the end of the world.

JULIE and Teresa, thinking of you and your extended family. I hope both parties come through with good outcome.

I have not read all, about mid way of 429, but I must finish what I am doing to the house here and get out in the RAIN to go to hospital. Still have heard nothing, so not sure what the plan is at the moment. They want to get him home on IV antibiotics, having to figure how that is going to work. Still no word on the 2-1 decision about the feeding tube. Oncologist does want to repeat the full induction chemo , just like the first one, because it worked, but she did not say when. About all I know now. except he has a bed sore. Because his belly hurts, he will not turn off that back, and an area that was red now has a small lesion. Stuborn man, we tell him he needs to be up in a chair (chair is uncomfortable) and he must turn side to side (hurts his belly). What to do???

Hugs to anyone else I might have missed who has special needs with family.

to EM.

I am off to the shower, will check in again when I can.

Hello all.
Julie,I hope your nephew makes a full recovery. What a worrying time for the family.
Theresa, same for your MIL's sister. They are in my thoughts as you all are.
June, glad you had a nice lunch after getting MIL out for awhile, even if it was raining.
A belated happy birthday to Emily and Shaun.
Gail, sorry to hear hubby and yourself having trouble sleeping during treatments.A transplant would be wonderful.
Suzy, glad that you enjoyed the concert and your 1st day teaching is over.We understand your reluctance to be alone since the stroke. It is a scary thought since you didn't notice. It is good that you are focusing on yourself and if you get anxious, keep popping in here for support and company.

My 1st day of prac was the boring form filling day of WPH&S,infection control etc.and watching about 4 DVD's was enough to make you want to go to sleep.
Today will be accompanying a Registered Nurse for the day and trying to learn some new skills which will be much more interesting.
I just had a chuckle at my dog trying to bury a raw bone under the blanket in her bed.I couldn't resist helping her, then she trotted off happily.
So cute.

Morning all,
I hope everyone is well and happy this morning.

Nola, that sounds gorgeous. Very cute. I hope the rest of your prac is more interesting. The RNs in the Stroke Unit never stopped and they only had 3 patients at a time. They were moving all day. They did everything, even things that we lay people think RNs don't do, like cleaning up people after an accident and taking us for showers.

Another update from MizTricia's sister.....

Heard from Tricia this afternoon. They will be doing an endoscopy tomorrow morning to have a look at the stomach tube. A gastroenterologist will be doing it. Tricia says he may be able to just move it if it is in the wrong place. If not, he may put a new one in while Al's there. They will be putting Al to sleep to do it. Tricia is glad, and so am I, that they are going to make sure it's in the right place & doing what it's supposed to. I suppose they'll also be able to see if there is infection around it.

Al has again had no fever today & is eating pretty well.

I'll let everyone know tomorrow how things are when Al comes out of surgery.

Hello, Friends!

I apologize for sending an incomplete post last night! I believe I was "Sending positive" vibes, prayers, {{{{{{HUGS}}}}}} and to everyone, especially June and her friend, MizT and Al, Bean and her brother, Theresa's MIL's sister, Nola and hubby, Gail's exhausted hubby, Viv, etc., etc., including everyone I forgot who might need extras! After that, I suspect I was saying that I was exhausted and going to bed.

Thank you, thank you for all the prayers and positive vibes for my nephew! Good News: he was ex-tubated this morning and is breathing on his own. One of the first things he said was how glad he was to have the tube out. He pulled the dressing off his head where he lost a portion of scalp, kept pulling at a catheter and eventually got it out, etc. Because he was combative, he had been restrained, but they are no longer restraining him. Did I mention that he is a Marine and quite strong? They MAY move him out of the Neuro ICU tomorrow. We're planning to go visit him then (about 1.5 hour drive each way.

It's already past 11 p.m., so my comments while I read will be brief.

Hi to Gail, Suzy, Vicki, June, CynB, Brenda, Theresa, Broni, Tami, Heidi, MizTricia, Nola, Rolanda and anyone I've missed!

Suzy, HOORAY, you survived your day teaching - even after a late night with Robin Williams! We knew you could do it (even Biology) - and do it well! Good for you!

Vicki, Happy Belated Birthday to your S Shaun! So glad he had a good day!

June, so glad you had a lovely lunch and drive through a national park!

Brenda, it's so nice that your brother and his wife came to surprise both you and your hubby for his birthday and were able to stay a few days! I hope they have a safe return trip!

Gail, I hope your hubby will soon become accustomed to sleeping while attached to the machine! I'm sure it feels awkward and he sleeps even more lightly to avoid accidentally pulling out the lines! As Brenda says, hopefully he will not need to become too used to it and a transplant will be in the near future!

Suzy, there's no need for apologies. You've had a very full plate and SHOULD be thinking about yourself! Hope all goes well tomorrow! {{{{{HUGS}}}}} I'm sure if we could arrange it, we'd all be there taking turns visiting and reassuring you! Theresa said it well! Thanks, Theresa, for saying what we were thinking!

Heidi, I wish we could help you find something that would make you feel better and sleep better! Does your back contribute to nausea often? It's a while before your next epidural, isn't it?

MizT, I hope Al and his belly start feeling better soon! He actually might find that it feels better if he's able to get up and move about some - probably less painful to change position while seated than when lying in bed. Shall I send my nephew down to "pull rank" and order Al to get up in a chair? (JK) Remember to look after yourself a bit, as well as Al! Sending pos

OK, I remembered to check tonight - and lost part of the comment again. Here's the rest:

Sending positive vibes and prayers for her - and for you!

Tami, I'm looking forward to finding out what my favorite color says about me. Thanks for the link! Hope your day goes well tomorrow!

Heidi, I hope you sleep well and feel better tomorrow. Enjoy the Red Angus show at the N.A.I.L.E.! We'll be thinking of you!

And now, I'm off to bed as well - an early day tomorrow to accompany hubby to a Dr. appointment, then heading out to visit my nephew.

{{{{{{HUGS}}}}} to Everyone - and prayers, positive vibes and
! Remember to take care of yourselves, as well as your loved ones!

Good Night, All!

We're waiting for our little tuesday visitor (Chloe) to be picked up - she's normally very good and Col came home early so we went shopping - she was atrocious for some reason - probably excitement that Poppy was home. We'll need a rest when she goes, for sure!
Tami - green has always been my favourite colour but in clothing I tend to go for blacks and reds!!

Somehow my comments got jumbled up but you get the gist.
Bella has a clean bill of health from the vet after her yearly checkup, she had a couple of lumps on her skin in the last week, one is healing and the other has burst and is shrinking. Was a bit scared as BJ Basset my other hound broke out in lumps that were an agressive cancer and he only lasted a few days.
