Hi, Everyone! Hope you have had/are having a great day!
Hi, Vicki, June, Rolanda, CynB, Theresa, Heidi, MizTricia, Nola, Suzy, Broni, Tami, Gail
Vicki, sounds like you got some great bargains!
June, your ladies' bowling Christmas party sounds much more organized than ours on Tuesday! Thinking of you and your family and your trip to the farm to do chores! Remember to enjoy your time with the ladies and performing the skit!
Rolanda, sounds like you had a very tired household! I hope you and your Mum had fun at the C party and hope she's feeling better now! Remember to take care of yourself, too!
Theresa, I hope your sloshy thing was just doing impressions, not doing what Suzy's old one did! I hope you are getting some time for yourself in between sloshy loads! It's too bad your husband's work is canceling its C party for employees at the last minute! You're right; it sends a bad message. Get some rest when you can!
Heidi, it's too bad you didn't sleep well. Luckily you don't have loads of work to do today! I hope you have a terrific night of sleep tonight so you'll be rested to go in and cook the meat for the banquet! Have a wonderful time and enjoy the good company!
MizT, I hope Al is getting plenty of sleep during the day and at night, even if he doesn't think he is. You do a great job of trying to keep him fed and hydrated! One day he will remember to thank you!
Nola, SEVEN days in a row of work!? You must be exhausted, Sweetie! Remember to find some "me" time and rest when you can. I hope you'll be able to enjoy the holidays!
Theresa, the grocery shopping is no fun, especially with what prices are now! At least you won't have to do it again for a while! What a great hubby you have to surprise you after your nap with clean floors!
Suzy, thanks for posting the great video! The girls really do a great job of entertaining! I hope you're enjoying some of the seasonal excitement, but remember to get plenty of rest! Also, give yourself permission to have a mess-up or two! You have a lot of recovering to do. It's so great that you could "self-deliver" the new washing machine in your car! Even greater is that your hubby "fed" it while you were away!
Heidi, Cyn may be right! Maybe instead of a hubby swap, a good hypnotist could change IH into a more helpful one!
Broni, love your new avatar! So appropriate!
Theresa, Heidi, MizT and Tami, it seems that this is a bad weekend weather-wise in the US. We started the day with rain and temperatures about 37*F. Temperatures dropped and we have had snow. Strong winds are predicted to go with the cold and snow tomorrow. Not fun for any of us!
Heidi, you didn't deserve to get that horrible phone call! I can't imagine what your friend expected you to do! If she treats a friend like you that way, I can just imagine how she treats her daughter. No wonder she ran away. Hopefully she will see things more clearly tomorrow. Don't stress over it, as I'

Heidi, you didn't deserve to get that horrible phone call! I can't imagine what your friend expected you to do! If she treats a friend like you that way, I can just imagine how she treats her daughter. No wonder she ran away. Hopefully she will see things more clearly tomorrow. Don't stress over it, as I'm sure her anger wasn't really directed at you. Thinking of both of you!
Tami, I hope you have a relaxing and enjoyable couple of days away from school! You deserve it after your busy week and weekend last week!
Heidi, you sound well organized for tomorrow! What a busy few days you have ahead. Getting some "me" time and a "nana nap" on Wednesday sounds perfect! Enjoy the early dinner banquet tomorrow! Sleep well!
Hubby and I went to the store today and priced plates, plastic knives, spoons, forks, napkins, tablecloths, coffee, sugar, Sweet & Low, creamer, stirrers, etc., etc. Looks like it could run between $150 and $200. We'll be reimbursed, but it's a lot of stuff to buy and take to the party. Then I guess we need to bring the excess home. Yikes!
I need to head to bed as well! Lots going on in the next couple of days. Thinking of all of you and sending

Light snow here - looks Christmasy! But the forecast is still calling for a freezing rain warning for today, starting this afternoon. Time for another coffee.

Question. Are ice pellets the same as hail? What is freezing rain?

I was elsewhere too Theresa. As a matter of fact, hubby and I have been training Hannah up to help Dad get on and off treatment, as I am going to Adelaide on Tuesday morning, coming back Thursday morning. That means I wont be here for thew Tuesday treatment, and watching Hannah do it tonight, I feel very secure knowing she will be here for him.

Suzy.... Freezing rain is stuff that comes down as rain or slush, and freezes to everything. It's my least favorite weather. Ice pellets are tiny frozen raindrops,... smaller than hail.... almost like a fine mist has frozen.,,, much denser than snowflakes.
I woke up to everything having turned white outside.
There's a Winter Weather Advisory out until tomorrow afternoon. I think that it'll effect the turnout for the Christmas Party today. I'll probably have lots of leftovers. I'd better be prepared to bring food home or to let others take some home. (Add aluminum foil to the list).

Suzy, Hail forms in summer, not winter. Here is a fact sheet with info about hail, I thought it interesting.
http://www.ucar.edu/communications/factsheets/Hail.html
Ice pellets would be the same thing as sleet, small pellets of frozen rain, the rain drops freeze when passing through a layer of much colder air before hitting the ground.
Freezing rain can cause the most damage, layers of ice can get very deep on trees and power lines. the added weight of the ice is too much for the tree or lines to bear, and they come down. Streets have a heavy coating of ice and are treacherous for driving. Stairs and sidewalks are unsafe for walking. But it can be most beautiful, too, with sunlight bouncing off the clear ice, everything sparkles!
Probably more than you wanted to know, eh?

If I may ask a favour of you, dear friends. A little girl who lives in this town, 7yo Mikayla, will probably not see out another day. In fact, as she is in so much pain, her father has asked that we pray her passing is soon. She is sedated due to the pain, and they are expeceting her to remain so until she passes.
Please add her to your thoughts and prayers.
May her journey to the great beyond be swift, on the wings of a snow white dove.

I'm off! I'm getting nervous. I really want everything to go perfectly. I've cooked for hundreds before, at County and State Fairs, but never fancy stuff for a Banquet. I know I can handle it with enough organization, but I want nothing to go wrong. My tummy is churning something fierce. I'm just afraid that I've forgotten something important.

Happy Birthday, Suzy!!!!
We had an ice storm in January '98 which downed hydro lines and trees. We were without hydro and heat for 8 days. January is a cold, cold month for no heat. I ended up staying at a shelter set up by the township with a generator, so for the last four days or so I had hot food and shower and army cot. Don't want to go through that again, though.

Where is everyone today. Suzy is off celebrating her birthday. Have a wonderful day Suzy.
I have just put another Pudding on to boil. These are easy ones MizT, only have to boil for 2 hours. My big one for our Christmas day boils for about 6 hours and another 4 hours on Christmas day. I have made the traditional fruit cake that cooks for 3 1/2 hours. Then soaked in brandy this year. I cut a slice the other day and it has turned out very nice.

OH JUNE, do send me a slice of your fruit cake, it sounds yummy.
Gail, thoughts and prayers to your young friend and her family. May the end go quickly and easily for Mikayla.
I decided to make a pumpkin pie. Used a new to me recipe. It made enough filling for TWO pies. I suppose the pie crust they called for was a large deep dish crust, not the shallow 9 inch cursts I had purchased. Perhaps I will take one to our family Christmas next Saturday.
Time for a late late lunch for me, I forgot to eat while cooking.
Hugs to all with extras.

Morning all,
I'm not any older - I am not getting any older! Ally is in bed, 4 nights in a row singing was a bit much for her. Since there are only 3 days of school left she isn't missing anything.
I have to swear around the house before Mum gets here on Thursday but friends have just called and are going to abduct me for lunch. Since I've been out those 4 nights too, I'd rather have a quiet day at home, but they were insistent!!!
Heidi, good luck with your preparation, I'm sure you'll do fine.
Safe day to those with bad weather...
Peaceful rest to Mikayla

I am back. I had a great time, and everybody raved about my cooking. Because of the storm, only half the people showed up, so there are LOTS of left-overs.
The drive home was horrible. Full scale blizzard with barely any visibility, and lots of snow everywhere. That's all I could see. The road was barely visible so I had to drive at a crawl.

Glad you made it home safely, Heidi. Wish I was there to share in the leftovers.
Right now it is pouring rain here and once the temperature drops everything will be covered in ice, including the roads. Hubby did not go to see his parents today.
I am a bit glum today and feeling a touch sorry for myself. My daughter's short-term disability has run out and she has to be put on long-term disability payments. But, those might not kick in for SIX MONTHS!!! How are people supposed to survive like that? So after Christmas I will be looking for full-time work in Ottawa again, and hubby wants to look for another part-time job as well. Life is a kick in the you-know-what. I really don't want to go back into the work force full-time. I'm not sure what my daughter will do about the grandies because obviously I can't work and look after them and help her out. We can barely support ourselves at this point without supporting my daughter as well.

There is a reason my daughter cannot have external help coming into the house, other than family, but I don't want to go into it on this site. She probably would be eligible, but it just ain't gonna happen.
Hubby and I had already agreed that I would take early retirement next year, but I guess that will change also.
Okay, enough ... there are a lot of people worse off than we are, so get on with it, Theresa. It is what it is.

Heidi, great news about the banquet!
Theresa, how are people with a disability supposed to survive! That makes no sense at all!! Your grandies will be fine... Neighbours should help at the bus stop and they will learn to be self-sufficient, which isn't a bad thing. Your houses will just have to be a little bit dirty for a while. Mine is and I don't have your excuse!! Speaking of which, I should be gnidlof sehtolc right now, but I remembered I had to take my morning pills which meant I had to refill my pillbox and it was also a good excuse to have another cup of coffee and a read... Hugs to you

Mikalya, a message for you from The Beatles:
"And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make."
Since it sounds like you shared a lot of love during your short life, I hope it helps to know that there is a lot of love going out to you now. May you and your family find peace.
