Hi everyone - I am sitting here watching this horrific tragedy enfold in front of me. I am so sad and so worried. I am safe myself but that is small comfort compared to what I can see my fellow Queenslanders are going through. The low lying areas of Brisbane will be flooded by the end of the day, even despite having built that huge dam, this has been so extraordinary that it seems we are to have a repeat of 1974.
Please keep those affected in your thoughts and prayers.

I just heard from IH. He'd forgotten that there is a Cattlemen's meeting tomorrow night, so he told me that he'll be home in time to go.

On a personal level, the only member of my family affected or in danger are my brother, his wife and their daughter who lives 2 doors away are stranded and without power. They live just near the wall of the Wivenhoe Dam and the Brisbane River is at the bottom of their road. He swears they are OK but there's so much more water coming into the dam than they can release. And they can't even get out of their property.
Look on Google Maps for Wivenhoe Pocket Road, Fernvale and you'll see how close he is to that dam. He seems to me to be about the same height (above sea level) as the dam wall. He's closer to the Dam end of the road than the river.

Cyn, I understand why you are worried. I've seen video of the water they are releasing from the dam (same one?) and being anywhere near that is scary!

Oh, yes, same one!
Karin is home safely - just beating floodwaters and road closures. They were the last cars on the ferry before it stopped running.
They're now saying this flood crisis will be greater than 1974. This is so major!

Hello SA9Aers!! I have been MIA for quite some time, sorry, life & the holidays got in the way.
to everyone!!!
Well, the house is on the market!!! YAHOO!!! We met with our agent, Jennifer, yesterday. I am hoping that we can sell it quickly and for what we want. The reason we need to sell quickly is the area that Darrell works in is going to be shutting down within the next 6 months to a year.
Darrell got a (sort of) promotion at krow a few weeks ago. It was a temporary Lieutenant's position...Well, he goes back to day shift on 1/16 and they are going to let him keep the position for now! The person that was in the position was technically fired. (Gov't work, not easy to get fired from it).
I haven't read any posts, will probably NEVER catch up, so I will wish everyone well and send loving/healing thoughts & prayers for those who need them. I will be back here and trying not to spend so much time on "the other site"!!
TTFN.

My mother's street is one of the streets listed as low lying in Ipswich. She will move with the neighbours up the street and I'll go get her when I can travel up the Ipswich motorway (parts of it are underwater).

Hi everyone, hope you're all well, and safe!

Cyn, I watched the video on the other site - very scary! Daughter in Brisbane tells us that she, and her husband, have been sent home from work, but we don't think their home is in danger.

Oh yeah, our new airconditioner has broken down ... and will need to be replaced! Couldn't find the necessary piece of paper (of course!), so Rob rang the company that installed it ... and a copy will be in the mail tonight! Yay! :)

This crisis worsens by the hour!
My niece has to evacuate from a suburb of Brisbane. Can't get to her mother, they will have to go to whatever shelter is set up.

Judy - parts of Kenmore did flood in 1974 but if they've been told they'll be safe - should be OK.

Good Evening, Everyone! I have finally made it back!

Hi, eaa, Theresa, Heidi, June, Nola, Suzy, Vicki, Tami, CynB, vdV, Suzanne and Judy!

I hope you had a good night's sleep, eaa!

I assume you had a good night's sleep, Heidi, since you slept in! I hope you got the food for the critters, since snow is predicted for the next 3 days! I'm so glad that your head is feeling better (unless you touch it) and that the swelling has gone down! Enjoy your next couple of days!

Theresa, I hope you had a good night's sleep, since you couldn't have a nana nap today while your older grandie was there. I hope her itchies are gone, and I hope her mom and dad will soon feel better!

June, I hope it wasn't too hot and humid to enjoy bowls! Do the knee-length shorts need to be white? (Even tennis accepts colors these days.) Thinking of your friend on her last day of IV chemo! Wow, just 7 more days of tablets! After all she has been through, I hope this really does what it needs to do and she will be able to get the poison out of her body and go back to enjoying life! Sending prayers, positive thoughts and {{{{HUGS}}}}!

Nola, thank you for the update! I hope the rain has finished or will soon and that the flood waters will recede! Thinking of all of you who have had to "weather" this storm and hoping you have no damage to deal with!

Suzy, what awful news about the "inland tsunami!" Keeping all those dealing with it in my thoughts and prayers! I will need to visit Mr. Google to see the extent of the damages. Your reports of dead and missing are very frightening!

And post number 20000, a TOPP, goes to eaa!

vdV/Steve, it's good to see you here again! How is your thesis writing going?

Suzanne, I hope your house sells quickly and for a good price! It's nice to see you here again!

Vicki, I hope your Mum is OK and she will go with the neighbors to higher ground if the floodwaters threaten! I'll be praying for her and them.

Cyn, I'll be keeping your B, SisIL and their daughter in my prayers!

Judy, I'll also be keeping your D and SonIL in my prayers. I hope the flooding will stop and all those threatened by the rising waters be safe!

I'm going to try to find more information about the flooding, then go to bed. Good Night, Everyone, and prayers for those who can use them! {{{{{HUGS}}}}}

They expect the flooding to get worse tomorrow and Thursday, heard on the news today that Wivenhoe can hold hold another 100% on it's drinking water capacity but think they are up around 175% With them letting out so much water the Brisbane river has broken it banks in Brisbane City. It has now broken the 1974 flood record.
I spent most of today moving everything 3' off the floor in the Boat Chandlery I work for then was sent home early while I could still get through. Safe and damp at home now.
Yes with a very bored 30kg puppy Vicki!

Part of the problem Heidi, is that so much of Queensland is flooding at the same time, or one part after another. And places where the floodwaters are starting to recede have weather forecasts which suggest they could flood again in about a week.

Another part of the problem is that we had already had so much rain that the ground was completely soaked before this happened.
Even though I am safe here, I am so scared for everyone!

I've been watching some videos and newscasts.... unfortunately not as up-to-date as I'd like, and it is very clear as to how widespread the flooding is. I haven't seen anything about the wildlife. I'd actually be afraid to watch anything about them.

Broni - Jewel is just sulking as she always does when it rains. She thinks we do it to her on purpose.
Also, Broni, I joined a Redland Council FB page which says at present we are all safe (should stay that way) with just minor flooding. But, did you see that huge retaining wall behind the Point of View Restaurant, where we went with Beanie has collapsed onto the road.
