It seems that SA7 is getting old and slow. It is time for a new page. Welcome to SA8.

MizT, the house my family lived in from 1972 to 2000 was in an area that gradually deteriorated. It started off a family area with kids riding their bikes on the street etc. It gradually started to be crime and fight filled. The final straw, and the thing that made Mum move, was when a woman with a hangover threatened the man mowing Mum's lawn with a knife for making too much noise.

Nola, you are up super early again. Glad Greg made it through. The pictures on the news of Kempsey are incredible, though early morning news says the floods are starting to recede. At the same time they are having dust storms in the SW or NSW!!

Vici, I love your baseball avatars!

Brenda, Indi sounds incredible.

Brenda, Indi sounds like an incredible dog. You should be so proud of him/her, I forgot which. Tell your daughter that once school is over I work all summer as a camp counselor.

Ooooh, nasty. I don't blame her for moving. It's sad, though, that low-lifes and scum can force one to leave their home. I think the police spend not enough time protecting peoples rights in this type of case, and too much time trying to ticket people driving a little too fast but not bothering anyone. I don't understand their priorities.

Heidi, Frequent breaks is a good thing considering your back. I was glad to hear it is doing better. NOW, can we please have a photo of survivor?

OH I thought of you several times yesterday as we were driving. The farm at end of street had a young calf that had got under a cross fence and was sway from Mom and the herd. this one was a black angus.

We went past the yard with the beautiful long haired collie. think it is a male, it is sooo big! Light sable and white, snowy white. Like my collie, he runs to the fence to greet cars along the road.

Then just past there, we saw a nice sized black angus calf outside the fence, but luckily staying close and not in roadway. Could do incredible damage if it strayed in front of oncoming car or truck.

Coming home we saw hay just cut, and the baler sitting in the field. I do hope they worked all night to get that hay baled fore this week of rain! a weeks of rain and flash flooding and run off would not g=be good for hay would it?

Also saw a new vineyard. I thhink this will be the first in our county, but it was up within pitting distance of the county that has 2 local wineries. I wish him luck with them. the vines and the supports looked first class though, very pretty and in sight of the road, obviously.

Today all I have seen is rain! and it is going south to north, so tons of moisture and humidity from the Gulf. Cool and muggy.

Stopped back in for a minute. We are having a lot of rain today. Luckily we were able to get our errands done between storms. Mitchell has to do a 10-15 page report on Thomas Jefferson. Each page has to have a picture. He has all the sources he needs, he has an outline of what each page will be. I am just trying to figure out how to type it and get the picture on the page. I have a scrapbook program that is excellent for pictures but not so good for text. I am trying to figure out what to do. Last time, I copied all the pictures, printed them, and cut them out and glued them on the word pages. I was hoping to print it all on one page.

Our hay is rolled, so it's OK. If hay is left out in the field, cut, but not rolled or baled, and it rains a lot, it can lose a lot of it's leaves. The nutrition is in the leaves, not the stems. But sometimes you have to do a trade off, if you don't have a long enough break in the weather.
We haven't had any of that rain yet, it might start tonight.

Tami..... have you considered printing the pictures on the paper first, then using that paper to print the text on (suitably formatted, of course)? I have done that before.

I have thought of that Heidi, I am just afraid I may not line up the text correctly. I am trying to copy the picture in jpeg format and inserting it into a word document. I will print one as a test and see if it works.

Tami, I use Word and insert pictures, then format them so that I can move them to where they want to go. If you have Word I can tell you exactly how I do it.

Tami, good luck with the word and inserting photos. I could do it back with the old word 2.0 about a million years ago. I published 2 different newsletters for non profits. One for Al's lodge, and one for my gardening. I doubt I could even import a photo now, use it or loose it they say.

Heidi, rain was heading north from here, but not that far north yet I think, so I cannot take credit for sending you rain.

Suzy, looking forward to seeing the photos of the girls. Just who is going?

Hello lovely SA8 people.
My, a lot has happened in the 2 days I've been MIA.
Welcome back Lizzie and Susan (yes, the purple was for Epilepsy Awareness day - March 26) and congratulations to Kate on the birth of Oliver.
Get well Stella and Richard.
Suzy - have fun at the races.
MizT and Vici - I too have neighbours from hell - in a suburban street! The father and his partner go away now and then on the weekend and leave 3 boys aged 18, 14 and 10 home alone to have drunken parties all day and night. The 'partygoers' overflow onto our front lawn and the police have 'more serious calls' to attend before they come to us, despite the youngest being home alone at 10. Their place looks like a tip and he's got debt collectors knocking at the door. Fortunately, I think he will be forced to sell out soon and good riddance! Feel sorry for the younger 2 boys, have watched them grow up - now they have NO discipline (their mother is gone and the 18yo is the girlfriend's son).

We went to the circus yesterday - it was Hayley's choice for her birthday celebrations. This circus has been going for over 100 years and still has animals. There are protests going on around here at the moment because of it by the Animal Liberation people. I have to say that, whilst the animals were all looking in good condition, I support the protests. There were 2 lions which really only came out jumped on a few chairs, jumped over each other and walked a plank from one chair to the other. There were 3 ponies, ranging in size, who came on and pranced around, bowed etc. Then, weirdest of all, the smallest pony came in and did a few laps with a monkey as a jockey.
I feel that the show would have been as enjoyable to the kids without the animals - they loved the clowns, trapeze artists and magician. I think about the conditions the animals must live in - cramped cages, small holding areas - they need space to move. None of my grandchildren are aware of this but I feel it is time to tell them - the oldest 4 are between 7 and 10 and two of them in particular are very definately animal lovers. Should I talk to them about it?

On a lighter note - 3yo Chloe wasn't sure she wanted to go to the circus because 'the monkeys might eat me' but decided to go on the proviso that she could sit on Poppy's lap because he'd keep her safe - she did and she was.

I have no problem with circuses having domestic animals.... I think the kids like them more anyways..... but it's an awful life for a wild animal.

Now to feed dogs and Survivor. Then I'm gonna watch an episode of "The Prisoner" in bed. I love Patrick McGoohan, and the show was so surreal.

CynB, I think taking a young child to a circus and then telling them that circuses are cruel to children would be a mixed message and very confusing to them. I would start first with more positive parts, like how animals should be treated, and what you think is a good way for animals to live. As they get older, they will have a basis to learn what is animal cruelty by comparison. Just my two cents worth.
