Afternoon all!

Home from the races. Had a good time but I'm tired. There were some lovely dresses, some omg dresses, and a whole bunch of people in casual clothes like me. The girls looked lovely - mine and 4 of their friends.

Cyn, the circus sounds like fun. I agree with MizT. Perhaps a casual, 'I didn't think the lions looked very happy, did you?'

Congratulations Kate!!!

Hi all - I agree with you Heidi, MizT and Suzy. I should have been a little more specific that I wanted to talk to them but not lecture them. I want them to decide for themselves what they believe to be right or wrong. I just would like to guide them gently in the right direction. Also, it WAS the wild animals that worried me more - the lions and the monkeys.
Otherwise the circus would have been fun had it not been in the middle of a downpour and high winds - and walking through mud to get in from the car park - ugghhh!

Hello friends! Just popping in for a few minutes, hope you're all well.
Kate is a grandma! :)
Susan is back (Hi Susan!) Stella and Richard are sick - get well soon.
Brenda, loved the dog and fish story!
We're just back from the gym. My son is coming over for dinner, and to help Rob move the heavy things out of the downstairs bedrooms (so the new carpet can go in this week) Tomorrow is Rob's birthday, but I think we'll be celebrating next week, as no-one will be around much this week. I'll have to make him a special dinner (low-fat, of course!) ;)

CynB the last few circuses we went to had no animals, but they were still great! We've been to Cirque de Soleil a few times, and I think we saw the Moscow Circus a few years ago (can't actually remember if that had animals) I remember they had a trapeze act that was so beautiful it almost made me cry.
I also remember the Moscow circus, many years ago, where the lions were not terribly well-behaved: lets just say that the people in the front rows should have brought umbrellas! Ewwww!!

Hi Judy and Happy Birthday to Rob for tomorrow.
Yep - looking for those circuses - Cirque de Soleil and, I think someone told me Circus Oz doesn't have animals. However, this is Brisbane - those big circuses tend to stay in Sydney or Melbourne and when/if they do come to town it is for a limited season and too costly for families to attend.

I can remember as a teenager going to the circus with Mum and my sisters and a very well dressed couple and their son in private school uniform sat in front of us. Before the show started they brought out the lion in his cage and a few moments later the lion lifted his tail and spayed the family in front. As a farming family from the bush we all found it very funny.....but then we were not the ones to get sprayed!!

It has been a busy weekend. Yesterday I helped my daughter make 15 dresses for a dance competition for her school. I ended up phoning home and staying the night as we were sewing till 10pm. Dino had spent the day in the city so she was not with me. Dino had been to the farm with us the previous Sunday.
I have Emailed Becky today and will let you know if I hear anything.
Congratulations Kate on the arrival of Oliver into your family.

Cyn, I would say to my grand children something like this. "Lions do not all live in circuses. Some of them live on great grass lands in Africa and Asia, they roam free, and hunt for thier food and fight for territory. If there are lots of animals for them to eat, they were fat and lie in the sun, and play. but if there are hard times, they are hungry. "

I would give them both sides of the wild and free story, but gently.

Now I will get off my soap box and say
GOOD MORNING SUDOKULAND! I have weak sun and a terribly high dew point today, muggy out, AC on just to dry the air. I will give away expected rain, but only if you take the humidity with it! Not only did clothes hung to dry inside not dry, they got smelly!

Suzy, the new remedy for smelly laundry, is Febreeze or some such fabric refresher, now that does work. Did Ebob get her clothes hung out and dried fore they did got smelly last week?

JUNE thanks for trying to reach Becky. I do hope we hear from her soon and her reasons for her absence are happy ones.

My word June, 15 dresses? you are super women, you go girl!

Kate, yes, I do imagine you will love every minute of this trip. Babies do that to us don't they?

I have failed to say get well to a few lately, but if I name names I will forget someone, so, Everyone be well and have happy celebrations with your families.

I am off to sewing room, and I hate to report in with my one little hour of sewing when June is spending the day and half the night sewing! but I am proud of my accomplishment after 2 years of being unable to sew, I am teaching my body not to rebel at this. It is getting better, and I am happy, all that matters. My baby steps getting more done than that quilt pieces did for themselves so long in that box.

Tricia, your sewing is pleasure, mine was hard work. And no prizes for the sewing as they were 'flung' together and will have Velcro instead of zips at the back. They will only be used a few times and my daughter hates sewing but the school does not have the 'helpful parents'. I was making the patterns (Mum she is about this high and tiny!!!!) and doing the cutting out. I drove the 1 1/4 hours home at 7am this morning. I was too tired to drive that distance last night.

JUNE, I can relate to being to tired to drive the hour and a quarter home. My sister lives that far from me and the last several times I have visited, I have stayed the night.

Yes, I stopped sewing when it was not fun any longer, so I am sewing for pleasure. I agree, you can take short cuts with costumes, they are only seen from a stage. It is like a thing said about a quilt and what will show, Can you see it (mistake) from a galloping horse??

Time for brunch and perhaps a bit more sewing. I will be doing the last 2 additions on the last of those banded borders. I am about to run out of stuff to do till I can make the longer trip up to town, about an hour drive considering traffic, to hunt that embroidery floss I need.

Kate, congratulations on your new grandson. I am sure Oliver will bring you many blessings. I hope you will be able to post a picture soon.
We went to dinner at SIL's last night. There were 11 of us for a bbq. My 4, her and her hubby, her older son and his fiance both living in NY, her younger son and his girlfriend both in from Chicago and her daughter. My niece Aly graduated from high school on friday and will turn 18 this week. That is why all kids were in town. It was a nice night and a nice celebration. Aly leaves in 3 weeks for college orientation in Boston and then goes to NY for her summer camp job. SIL now has an empty nest.

all.... drizzly, grey day here, and my back is hurting again. OH, well. I just took some pain meds, and am waiting for them to work.
One of these days, I have to go see Star Trek. I just hope it's a little more light hearted like the original series, and not dark like "Enterprise", the prequel series. I never could figure out what a Vulcan was doing wearing a cat suit. Totally out of character. Bakula was good in that, but the supporting cast sucked.

We're going out in 2 hours to look at a generator for sale..... this is a BIG one, it tows behind a truck. It can completely power the whole house... water, heat, lights, pooters, fridge and freezers, and anything else we want. I fully expect another big power failure. The climate is producing more bad storms. A lot of power poles came down in the last one, but a lot didn't. I believe that the ones that didn't come down are probably damaged, and will come down in the next big storm. I want to be prepared for this one.

Good morning everyone.
Welcome to the world Oliver, congratulations Kate and his family.
Glad you and the children enjoyed the circus. It is hard to know if some of the animals would even be alive in the wild.Zoos do there best to make it homelike,at least they aren't starving. Its in the too hard basket for me.
I had the day off yesterday because of my eye and went to the chemist. They gave me a minor antibiotic and said if not better go to the Dr.It was closed again when I got up.Very irritating!
Brothers 53rd birthday today...nearly finished with them (birthdays)1 more to go.
Our phone hasn't been working for 2 weeks then all of a sudden it is again.Weird.
Off to work shortly so I will catch you all later.Have a good day/night.

More and more zoos are trying to recreate the animals natural environment as much as possible, and trying to stimulate their minds. The primary goal now is to save species that are endangered, and to keep as diversified a gene pool as possible, with records on all species in captivity. Eventually, they'd like to release species back into their historic territories.

Gotta go now!

Morning all!

June - 15 dresses - wow! A super achievement for the 2 of you, even with short cuts like velcro.

MizT - I agree you should be proud of your hour at a time working on your quilt. Especially that quilt!

Nola - I hope something starts to help your eye soon. That sounds painful and annoying.

Kate - the only problem with your next trip to Dubai is that you won't want to come home...

Tami - the BBQ sounds like a lot of fun. I bet there was a lot of laughter. Today an empty next sounds very nice to me. I hope you enjoyed Star Trek.

I'm back, and the generator is exactly what we need. It's powerful enough to power 2 homes. So it should be able to power our home, the 3 barns, and the fence charger, which charges several miles of fence.

Hi everyone! Today Melbourne is cool, grey and very windy. Some rain would be welcome, but I'm not hopeful.
Thanks for the birthday greetings to Rob - I'll show him when he gets home.
June, memories of dance concerts and making costumes for the girls - not my favourite thing! Can't imagine having to make 15!
Nola, hope your eye is better soon - sounds very nasty.
Heidi, we went to see Star Trek on the weekend - it was really good! A lot of tongue-in-cheek banter, the characters were amusing and likable, some interesting twists. Basically, good fun!

Hi Judy, we had our windy day yesterday, perhaps I sent the remainder on to you?

OK, someone put a link how to find Rolanda's sunset photo. I know she has taken some that are lovely. I thought you meant it was on easy sudoku puzzle, but I saw boys there and a poodle photo yesterday. I am sooo lost! Anyhow, congrats Rolanda, know it was a beauty. Good luck and a swift completion of getting your visa.

Suzy, hope you had a great day wherever today took you.

Tami, sounds like you had a good day for catching up with family, hope everyone enjoyed as much as you seemed to enjoy it.

OK, Heidi, you are throwing up? I must ask, any chance you are pregnant?? First thought of an OB GYN nurse hehehe. Seriously, hope yo are feeling much better and fast. That generator sounds just what you need. Is it diesel, gasoline, or what? Hope it came with all the heavy duty extension cords to get to barns and such. Next trick is to store enough fuel to keep it going for a while.

Suzy, I am getting excited, just 2 more strips to add to the last section of border. Hopefully in the morning. After that, machine appliqueing the new flower, that will not take long. Then not much I can do till I get that embroidery done.

OK, time for my bedtime meds, and play some games till I get sleepy. Catch you all on the flip side.

In the next several days, I have a lot of work to do for business on the computer. Might get to drop in for a short visit, if I do not get caught. I have a terrible boss you know hehehe.
