Bean...Here we say 'If the shoe fits...but.... in your case, the cap will do very nicely..... LOL!
Thanks for the update on Vici's safe return to the states.
Gail, I too have been very impressed with the way the troops are recognized, remembered and held in high esteem from a very large number in the over-all population in Aussie land...unfortunately, we in the U.S. no longer seem to demonstrate our support as openly.
Its a shame because our men and women need to be fully aware that their efforts are backed by the entire population, regardless to how one may feel about the wars that are being fought. The lack of popularity of the war in Viet-Nam seemed to mark the end of the open support given to our service men and women who defend this country. I don't think its because Americans care less, simply put however, is that the busy lives that we lead have taken precedence over our outward displays of support..i.e, attendance at memorial ceremonies, flag displays, etc...we need to do better...I'm so glad Aussies continue to take time out of their schedules to demonstrate the all important support beyond lip service. Congratulations!

Happy Dance, Vici is home safe and sound.
Strange Mama, I always thought the US had a very strong conviction regarding those fighting for our freedom. Something I would never had known if I had not met all you wonderful people.

Evening all!
Liz, I think I would stay away - I'd be crying my eyes out!
Mamacita - that happens to me sometimes too when I'm visiting the big zoos. I just back away for a while, go do something else, and it comes good.
Broni - one foot??? That has to be a record. I bet you never went near another one.
Gail, I'm always a wreck at those ceremonies too.
Cyn, I'm glad you didn't get attacked with a towel, but I was kind of hoping, mean person that I am, that you would have a chance to try out the advice Liz gave so you could tell us how she responded.
and over the page....

Today's story: I was trying to get out of our street to take Ally to Taekwondo and was having quite a bit of trouble. Our little dead end street turns onto an 80kph road that leads to the Navy base so has heavy traffic twice a day, but is usually okay the rest of the time. I suspected the highway must be closed and people were using the road as a detour. Turns out I was right. A poor motorbike rider hit a kangaroo with the worst of consequences. Sigh. Somebody's child, parent, spouse.....

8 weeks later non weight bearing and had to learn how to walk again. Talk about adding insult to injury..... my darling cous Maz brought little plastic skateboards for me and hung them around my bed.

Broni, I suspect you were ladylike and quite restrained when you hurt yourself and not ungraceful at all!! I was much more dramatic when I hurt myself - both times. I am just an attention seeker I guess. The first time I slid along the road beside my motorbike for about 10 metres. The blokes on the side of the road looked extremely shocked, even more so when my first words were about the bike. The second time I broke a steering wheel with my face and created quite a cuffuffle because they couldn't get me out of the car. Both of our new cars have air bags - wish I'd had one back then!

Yep Zusy she would have to be an honourary Dag!
Ladylike??? Me!!!!! got to be joking?!?
Long story but my brother and then hubby picked me up, brother looked at me and asked 'does it hurt much?' in shock I said 'not much' his reply was 'don't worry it will' trust me he was not wrong.
Zusy don't think my first words would have been about the bike but would not be repeatable here unless I want to kick off again!

I'm trying to imagine coping for 8 weeks not putting any weight on a foot. Getting from A to B with crutches maybe, but other necessary activities would have been very hard. I had to clean that up for the same reason you cleaned yours up!

I've just realised something significant. If I had a choice between pushing the hot slidy thing around and cooking, I'd push the hot slidy thing, and I hate the hot slidy thing! Yet cooking is not a swear word and the other word for the hot slidy thing is....

I cook up some diced potatoes, when cooked, gently mix with mayonaise/oil/parsley mixture. Let cool, in the fridge.
Meanwhile, I mix finely diced (small tin of sliced B, drained) beetroot, with the finely diced boiled egg (2), finely diced apple (2 Granny Smiths) and finely shredded lettuce, mix well with vinegar/oil/pepper mixture. I cover it and leave in the fridge for some time.
Just before serving mix the two together, add finely diced meat.
You can also add diced Dilled Cucumber(it is like a Gherkin only nicer) to the mixture.
you can also add more Mayonaise if you like.

You all have reminded me that I need to make some pumpkin pies. I have a half dozen pie pumpkins to use up.
I was given them as a thank-you for the loan of my critters to the Petting Zoo in October.

Morning everyone. Not so hot here today thankfully. Hubby and I have some errands to run so I'd better dust of the chauffeur's cap again, he's getting very used to being a passenger!
Yesterday we went for a drive further up the mountain and did the touristy thing around the towns on Mt Dandenong. We visited the national Rhododendron Gardens and took in the 104 acres of magnificence. Most were just past their best but it was still a breathtaking place to visit.
Of course, we followed it up with a 'gail', but you knew that...

Morning all!
Nothing much planned for today. Make a few phone calls, finish curtains, push the sucky thing... After school is the usual bowling and singing routine.
Nola, I often wish I had an area that the dogs couldn't get to so I could feed the birds.
