I had another 'coffee' experience this morning. I had to fill in an hour and a half while Ally did her high school thing so went to have another cup of coffee. A young man sat at the table next to me, very polite, no swearing, chatted to a man who joined him. His feet were injured.... turns out he'd punched the doctor who'd told him he would have to stay in hospital for treatment because they didn't think he would stick to the treatment regime, and he also knew how to escape from the psychiatric facility - though he didn't actually get away cause they threatened him with the 'dogs'...

Just stuffed myself with lasagna. Mmmmmmmmm.

Broke the news to IH about me buying a couple of bred, registered Red Angus cows at the sale in Alabama in 3 days. He got pretty upset until I explained all my genetic and financial reasonings. And the arrangements that I've already made to have them delivered here. And how I was going to pay for them. He's now enthusiastic.

I am not going to Alabama. The auction is being shown live on the internet, and I will be on the telephone throughout the auction with one of the sellers, who will be bidding for me.

Vici... I added a picture of my bulls younger sister to my page. It's a show picture of her win in Louisville 2 days ago. National Grand Champion female.

It's not my usual coffee place (when I meet with friends), but it is the only place in town with outdoor seating... other than Maccas and that isn't in town. I either get to witness these 'interesting' stories or sit indoors all the time... hmmm

Heidi...I can totally see why she won (although I know nothing about these things) - she is beautiful! I just want to snuggle with her cos she looks so soft.

Got a news story for MizT:

A vitamin found in meats, nuts, grains and cereals may be more effective than sunscreen in preventing skin cancer, new research has found.

Nicotinamide, or Vitamin B3, prevents damage from both UVA and UVB radiation by protecting the immune system, and could be taken in tablet form or added to sunscreen, Associate Professor Diona Damian of the University of Sydney says.

Sunscreens provide good protection against UVB rays, which cause sunburn and skin cancer, but the products are less effective in protecting against UVA, which can also cause skin cancer.

"UV radiation in sunlight suppresses the skin's immune system and makes it more susceptible to skin cancer," she said.

"Our research found that nicotinamide (Vitamin B3) can prevent the immunosuppressive effects of UV by energising cells so they maintain their immunity."

Tests using the water-soluble vitamin offered equally strong protection against both UVA and UVB in both lotion and tablet form, according to tests on volunteers, said Prof Damian.

"Nicotinamide is well-tolerated, so could also be taken orally as a supplement, particularly by people who have a higher susceptibility to skin cancer," she said.

It is also relatively cheap to produce, she added, so it could potentially be incorporated into sunscreen to boost its effectiveness against UVA.

The research was also looking to determine whether the vitamin could be used to treat sunspots, common lesions that sometimes progress to skin cancer.
