Wind has stopped for the moment, but we are still under weather watch till 7 pm (it is now 4 pm) Flash flooding seems to be the biggest problem in North Alabama, with many roads under water and impassable. Local TV preempted for weather broadcasts, so we get very good coverage of what is happening.

Kitties happy no more wind and both have gone outside for a bit. Heavy rain approaching, OH NO, Not more rain! I know we need rain, but all of it at once?? Could I share rain with someone needing it more than we do?

Cynthia, it is hard but quality of life is really what it's all about. I sure know I don't want to hang around year after year not able to be the person I wanted to be.

Rolanda said they have been very lucky with the weather. She is four hours south of Perth, and they have not had the same terrible hot weather that Perth is experiencing.

GAIL, the best thing to do for all the " firsts" is to make new traditions for that day, espicelly if the usual day involved your Mom. The ones in our family that have done that get past those days much better than those who have not.

I think it will be hardest for the children Tricia. Mum never missed sending a grandie or ggrandie a card on their birthdays and Christmas, always with a crisp $10 note in it. I know in the end it was Dad who bought them all and posted them so I wonder if he will keep up that tradition.

Gail - my Mum was like that - every birthday, every child got a card and money - 3 children, 10 grandies, 15 g-grandies (#16 on the way). When she went into care and I became EPOA, we made a joint decision not to do it anymore. The kids would have known it was not her doing it but one of us. It's a shame though anyway - end of an era, end of a family tradition.

Yes it is Broni.
There is a picture of us on this day in 1983 in my gallery. I was just looking at it then and remembering the day.
I have been to a lot of weddings, and even though ours was small and simple, I still think it was the most romantic one.
Love you Scott.

my grandmother always sent a crisp $5 too. she stopped when we reached 18. she had nine children, 50+ grandkids, and she didn't even try with the greats! we loved getting her birthday card, especially since our other grandma only sent 2$.

I'm awake again after a delightful nap. The face doesn't hurt quite as much now, either.

I would never want to have the horrible existence my grandmother had for her last 4 years. She was a prisoner of her body. Her mind was sharp to the end, but her body was crippled with rheumatoid arthritis, and she had suffered several debilitating strokes. She could do nothing for herself and was in constant pain. I think I would end my own life rather than go through that.

I need to go out in a little bit and feed hay to the cows. I won't be able to drive the tractor for a couple of days after the epidural, so everyone needs to be fed.
I'm in the same weather system MizT is in. It's been raining cats and dogs all day. I looked at the pigeon yard earlier, and it was completely underwater. There were about a dozen pigeons out in it, happily splashing away.

He'll probably break my tractor again. HIS tractor hasn't run in months, and is usually only an ugly pasture decoration. But I really don't feel up to it myself right now. Mt back is too badly in need of that Epidural tomorrow.

Severe weather is gone, but not the rain. I am beginning to feel like a mushroom here.

Heidi, I hope tomorrow you are MUCH better than today. Good luck with your epidural.

Good night friends, I am going to bed, hopefully we will not float away overnight. I wonder if the 2 creeks between us and the main road are out of their banks? Happens when we get a lot of rain. OH well, we are not going anywhere till Thursday, maybe it will stop raining before then.

Thanks for the messages, friends. It looks like FIL will be OK. Now we have a 2 day to 2 month wait to see if the surgery alleviates his condition. With a brain cyst suddenly starting to fill with fluid, he went from a functioning adult to an infant in a couple of months. With the pressure on the brain starting to reduce now, we're told he might recover some of his cognitive functioning but there are no guarantees.
