Heck no, Gail. My boy is still here, though he hopes to be moving into a share-house in the next month or so. That's when we'll really be wondering what to do with the house! (Answer: anything we want!!!)

That's what I was like, Gail. But, my hubby who is their step-father, was found in tears at my daughter's wedding and I asked what was wrong - 'She's leaving us', he said. I said
I told my SIL - no returns!

Don't get me wrong, I love my children dearly, but let's think about this here...

My son moved out about four years ago (bless his cotton socks). ALL my three daughters are still at home and there just aint enough room in one house for four bosses! That's my job!!!

I have a daughter getting married this year, but she's been living in Qld for nearly two years, so the whole moving out thing doesn't really apply!

Think I may end up doing what my sis did. Three of her children. who where over 18, were still living at home. They wouldn't leave, so she did!

Gail, That was the problem with my daughter, she was 24 when she got married and finally left home but for the previous few years, she tried to take over. We clashed more in those few years than we ever did before and have never clached since.

Except, of course, that she only took about a quarter of her stuff, so our garage is FULL of her boxes.... She rang yesterday to say they were actually looking for a house to buy, and I thought "oh good, they can come and get their stuff!". But seriously, what are the chances?

Judy, we moved house 6 years ago. My kids had to collect anything they had left behind before it got sold/dumped/lost. They were there in a flash.

I'll send 1 over if you like Cyn (not far to go) I have 2 moved back home 1 is 30, the other almost 35 - I love them dearly BUT I'd love to have just a bit of time to myself. Its OK if we go away (& we try to quite a bit)as there's always someone to mind the dogs (Who's dogs??? Their dogs)

Our son left stuff here when they moved to Melbourne 4 years ago. He did take his ladder and a shovel home when they went after Christmas.
Belinda has finally taken most of her things.
I think I have half of Sharon's Wedgewood dinner service and some glasses but she has nearly everything else.

We do have a cat that Belinda acquired when she came home from Germany, then she moved into a flat, then to the cottage on the family property where there were lots of cats about and by the time she had her own farm the cat was firmly entrenched here.

Short term is almost acceptable, especially under certain conditions. My son was once between houses for about a month. We collected his belongings and left them on the work truck under a tarp till he found somewhere. He didn't get a room (slept on the floor in the lounge) because 1. the girls shuffled rooms the second he was out the door, and 2. I didn't want him getting too comfortable!

My eldest daughter was unemployed and living at home for about three years after she left Uni. Finally we got her to apply for the dole, and they made her go for lots of interviews - she got a job fairly quickly, thank goodness, and the change in her was quite dramatic. She used to sit around in her nighty half the day, wearing a grotty old jacket over it. One day, after she was offered the job, she looked at the jacket and said "this is filthy!" (I'd tried to wash it before, but couldn't get it off her!) She threw it out. Now she's always spick and span, very nicely turned out. Some time later she said to me, in surprise, "I think I might have been depressed." Really, dear?

Thanks for the offer Lee but I'll pass, if you don't mind. We love the freedom being able to do what we want when we want. We never had that when we first got together, my kids were 14 and 12. I think my hubby deserves a medal for staying with us during their teen years. He has no children of his own and now considers mine as his own and loves them accordingly. That's why

I bet you love your freedom - I'm just not sure at what age I'm going to be before I get it - shouldn't grumble, some worse off than me. Mine at least do intend to move out when they've saved enough for a good deposit on a house, just waiting for the day - SOME DAY, ONE DAY isn't that the way the song goes

Viv, you would have coped no matter how many children you have. We all have to cope with what life deals out to us. You cope because you love them. Look at all the washing of uniforms you do for Ethan!

Hey, I can't complain too much - I mean she wasn't drinking, doing drugs, or running wild in the streets. She was just sitting in her room, reading fan-fic and brooding a lot! But now that she's gainfully employed she has started writing stories and drawing again - she does some really beautiful artwork.
