Oh Viv, in the long run the benefits outweigh the downside. They DO move out, they do get their own lives.
And they eventually give you grandchildren - they are magic.
Sorry, can't resist
(Everyone has worked out that I have a ton of new smileys.)

Viv,
When Sharon had her burst appendix at the beginning of Sept. it took months to get over it, even without her secondary complications. It was six weeks or more before she could drive a car, so Ray, who is much older (but only a few months older than me) and was not in the best of health anyway will take even longer to get well enough to look after himself.

Night Cyn, sorry I missed you. Was off starting to do some return calls of thanks. It will take a little time to get around to everyone, the response on my page has been touching.
I will be honoured to thank each and everyone.

Speaking of daughter's doing beautiful drawings Judy, I must tell the story of a couple of things my two girls did this week.
I asked my youngest if there was anything she wanted to give to Nana to take on her journey. When her Pop passed away, she wrote a little note to put in with him. This time, she wanted to do a picture of Nana, and used a photo we have of Mum when she was a very young girl.
It brought tears to everyone's eyes. I made enough copies to give to all my siblings and all my mother's sisters. When I can, I will post it on my page.

Drawing story #2

While we were at the hotel with all the relatives after the service, my two oldest daughter's were sitting outside, quietly (that needed to be mentioned!). I later picked up a brown paper bag that D#2 had been doodling on.
It is the most amazing study of her older sister while they were sitting there.
I will keep both pictures as cherished keepsakes.

Thought I'd better give you an update on my son and his...misadventure!
I messaged him as soon as we got home last night and asked how he was going. I still had not really got many details. He said he was feeling very low about it all, having thought the swelling would have gone down by now. I told him to have patience and not to fight the healing process.
While I was talking to him, his darling girlfriend asked him whether we wanted them to grab some take-away and bring it around for our dinner, plus he wanted to see his mum anyway.
They came over and I was a little nervous about seeing the damage. Must say I was very relieved when I saw it, they have done a great job of closing a large tear of the bottom lip, and he will have to have his tooth capped or something.
I told him it didn't look anywhere near as bad as he had painted it over the phone, and he seemed a little calmer.
BTW the whole time they were here, my son watched the bl**dy cricket match that was on TV while talking about getting hit in the face by a cricket ball!!!

And now, I really must leave you all. Gonna have a cuddle with hubby who is watching reruns of reruns, then head off to bed. Still very worn out by it all, and just want to get back to a semblance of 'normal', a new normal at least!

Heidi's trip to take out trash is a long one, it is quite a distance to the main road where trash man picks up trash.

HEIDI, how do you decide if you will use the big tractor with the cab and the heater? How long you must be out? the outside temperature? Which did you take for the trash run?

Still reading trying to get all the posts added overnight. Huumm, maybe I should sneak into the current page, I might miss something hehehe

Since CynB has her valentine's day avatar, could not resist putting up one of mine today. Can you believe, I found a valentine quilt?

JUDY, I was given a deadline on how long I could leave things at home once I married. I carried on the tradition with my daughters. they got one year, and yes, they did come and sort to take what they wanted, which was not really much. Faced with the task of moving it, and finding a place to store it put different priorities on just what they really "needed' from all of it.

My father also told me before I married, once I did, my everyday plate would be broken. I would have a Sunday Dinner and Holiday plate at their table, but that was all. His way of saying, once you leave, you cannot come back.

George Clooney for me too!
I moved back to my home town at 22 after studying and working away, having met future hubby while on uni holidays, I wanted to come back. I rented a flat in town, but my mother was so stressed about it, that I moved back home until I got married 2 years later. I got the "People will think I'm a bad mother" constantly. Girls of her nationality - Italian - did not rent flats in their own hometown.

I guess S1 will leave home at the end of the year when he finishes uni at 21 (and re previous discussion, he does have common sense), because he won't get a job in his field in a small town. S2 is 15 (and a half as he reminds me constantly) and says he's going to leave home as soon as he can. I'll help him pack. I love my children more than I can say, and if S2 is happy and safe, I'm happy. He'll find out soon enough about apprentice's wages!

We're expecting minor flooding here. We've had 10" of rain in 15 hours with strong winds. I couldn't find any bread and other staples in town today. I understand people wanting to stock up, but some go over the top, buying like 10 loaves of bread, leaving none at all for most people.

Ahhh, Susan, not fair they left you no bread. Wish I could hand you some. I just moved some from the freezer to ice chests. Would be happy to share, if you like whole wheat or 12 grain bread. I hope the flooding is very monor. Ten inches of rain is a LOT and would have many creeks and rivers out of their banks here.

We still have power, that is not reason for the ice chests, but I have an upright freezer that must be defrosted! I should have bought a frost free, but had only so much money at the time (when hubby had just had open heart surgery and was not working) It is time to get more venison, and I will have more room with all the frost gone!

Al managed to disappear just when I started to move all the food. Well, he did have an excuse, and he did say if I would wait, he would be right back. A customer called him, has a computer for him to repair, and needed Al to meet him. I have all the food out, and started with the popcorn popper (it's second use, blowing hot air on the frozen shelves) but I need him to move an extension cord he has something plugged into, right in front of the freezer, do not want it getting wet.

so true about the italian thing susan! even now they live at home. i have 4 cousins all 35ish. they ALL live at home still! for girls especially they are considered to be a bit trashy if they live on their own before getting married. either that or, it thought that their parents can't or won't help them out. i pretty much moved out when i went to college at 17. after that i was mostly home as a visitor. even when i lived close to my family, my sister and i got an apartment together with another friend. that is the way it was for all of my siblings. i expect that with all of my kids as well. except for elsa cause she is my baby, and i will never want her to leave because i'm pretty sure she is going to be perfect.

MizT, I use an old hair dryer on my chest freezer. All the frost is usually at the top. Aim the dryer and when it looks loose, scrape with a plastic spatula. Put the pieces into a container and throw down a drain. Found that it's easier than bending into the freezer and trying to mop up.

Morning Mariana.

Would you give my FIL a few lessons on manners? Last Monday, I drove him and his lady friend to the airport. Instead of turning in the seat and speaking to her, he yelled at the windshield. Yesterday, we picked them back up. He sat in the backseat, talking non-stop. Wouldn't let anyone get a word in edge-wise. Told hubby the next time I was bring a strip of duct tape.

Everyone. I still have 3 pages of posts to read, so I'm not part of the convo yet.
Got woken up by a phone call. One of my IH's goats was out on the road on a dangerous curve. I had to quickly get dressed, grab my gun, and get out there. Unfortunately, IH's lab tech. got to it first and locked it up. I REALLY wanted to shoot it! Once a goat learns how to escape, there's no containing it. The only way to stop it is with lead poisoning.
