Did Heidi break it?

Just back from a performance of a Community Choir, who sang old Southerner Gospel and sang it well. They were accompanied by 3 very talented instrumentalist, one on piano of course, and one on violin and one guitar. We all had a good time at that presentation. The director was very much a showman and kept us laughing.

Went out to water flowers and someone already had, thanks probably to Margaret.

I have been doing way to much sleeping or just lying in bed. I think the new medicine is at fault. I have stopped it and hopefully I can wake up again.

I read last page, but have forgotten it now. If I go back will loose this post. So until later, I leave hugs for each of you, with extras.

So, you've picked up my sleeping patterns, MizT? I posted this morning, then went back to bed for another 5 hours. Since then, I've been busy. I think everything I need for the trip is in the RV, except my clothes. We have it packed with food and drink, cups, plates, bowls, flatware, cooking utensils, paper towels, t.p., napkins, dish soap, hand soap, shampoo, bath soap, towels, disinfectant, DVDs, horse papers, bedding, flashlight, first aid kit with extra band-aids, and I forget what else. Can anybody think of something I've missed?

Had an interesting day today. One of Mitchell's friends slept over last night. He is a good kid so I did not mind. After he went home the four of us went out to run a few errands. After our last stop, I was backing out of the parking space and got hit. I was 90% out of the spot and the car behind me claims he did not see me and hit me. I took a picture of the cars and he was maybe a foot or two out of the spot. Did call the police to investigate but they could not ticket him as they could not determine fault. I will let insurance company deal with it.

Heidi, how about zip lock plastic baggies or saran wrap, for putting opened leftover things into?

Heidi, can opener, bottle opener, extra batteries.

Tami, ouch ... hope the insurance covers everything. Was there much damage to your vehicle?

Hot day today, and tomorrow will be even worse. With the humidex, it will feel like around 40C. It will be another day indoors for me, with the AC on.

Sounds as if you have the necessities showing. Glad IH didn't go off...much more pleasurable to have understanding of purchases.
Mz T...sounds as if you will just need an adjustment on the meds...but they seem to be helping you so don't stop em completely.
Nola, sounds as if you have things under control now...its so hard to fix things repeatedly.
Theresa...sounds as if we are having the same weather...very hot, humid and hazy here and expected to stay that way for awhile...but then, July is usually hot, humid and hazy so people seem to be taking it in stride.
Tami...sorry about the car being banged up, but at least it didn't happen when you were busy working. Happy Birthday to your Dad too...forgot to say it on the other site.

It's 2 am, and I'm still busy doing bird room cleaning. The Vet will be here in 7 hours. I need to hurry up and finish.

I haven't read yet. I'm on hold with Vision Australia. Alie apparently has perceptual disability, or a visual processing disorder. I think I told you that her comprehension level was kindergarten. Obviously she can do better than that with a variety of inputs. It is hard for me to think about the fact she is 17 and just now being diagnosed. Beating myself up just a bit.

Evening everyone. Nothing exciting to report from me. The usual weekend. Went bush Saturday for more wood and yesterday I stacked heaps in the little shed that hubby was cutting up. I sure was tired last night. Also did my walk again today after the usual coffee and crosswords with the Old Boy. Must think about the evening meal now. Wish I did not have to get it, but oh well, the life of a wife. lol

Has Heidi left on her trip yet?

Well the fitters and some of the components for the log cabin are here, unfortunately the main parts still haven't arrived! I have been assured that it will be finished today.

It doesn't sound likely, Brenda, unless it takes 10 minutes to assemble.

Eating a quick brekkie while sitting at the pooter.... then need to get Sere and Pandora in for the Vet, then a bath. For both of us. Then we've allowed about 3 hours to get our act together and get loaded, before hitting the road. The RV is full of gas, and rarin' to go. My friends in Florida have told me they feel sorry for me. Supposedly, those 2 kids are awful together. I've never seen them together, just alone. I'm gonna have to set ground rules immediately. My RV, my rules.

Heidi, I agree about the 'my RV, my rules' idea. Kids will usually listen to the other adult better than their parent. Have a safe drive. You have my number. Call me anytime and I can post an update for you if you don't have internet access.

I never found my cell phone. Oh, well.
The Vet was here and we're ready to go. Anita and the kids may not like it, but I'm gonna make this trip as short as possible. I'm doing this to get a mare bred, not give the kids a Florida vacation.
I'm resting my back for a few, then I need to give Sere a bath. She got really dirty last night. I don't know where she found that black mud. Then I get to hop in the shower.

Heidi, the cabin has now been finished in under 5 hours. All we have to do now is paint it and get the electrics installed.

Suzy, the son of one of our friends had a similar thing. Once he got the correct glasses he improved dramatically. He has just finished at a very upmarket course to become a chef and is now working in Claridges Hotel in London, which is one of THE top hotels.

I'm glad I decided to be flexible about the time we leave. Anita went out to run some last minute errands and got a blowout in the middle of nowhere. That gives me some time to sit and relax before loading up the horses. Both Sere and I have had our baths, and I'm all packed and loaded.

Hot, hot, hot. Mamacita, we get this weather in the summer too, but not usually for such extended periods. Tomorrow is supposed to be a repeat of today. I had a bit of a lie-down earlier because of the achies (much worse in humid weather) and vomited on my pillow. I guess I see doing a load of laundry in my future.

I got a call from the people in charge of the Meals on Wheels for FIL this afternoon. They were unable to get an answer at FIL's place and were worried. I tried calling hubby's sister on her home phone and her cell ... no answer. I was just about to call hubby at work when his sister called me. FIL hadn't answered the door (he thought he had left it unlocked) and he didn't answer the phone because HE DIDN'T FEEL LIKE IT!!! I guess my SIL lit into him about a few things and he just doesn't see what all the hub-bub is about. I think his time at home will soon be coming to an end.

Feeling a bit sad today, but not sad about my life. I live across from the Salvation Army where they hand food out to those in need. I see people coming and going and it makes me sad. There but for the grace of God ...... I find it especially sad when I see people my age and older going there for food. It's hard to imagine working all your life to end up needing extra food from a charity. I am soooo lucky.

Okay, I'm strange, but when Heidi said they both needed a bath, I had a vision of a large outdoor tub with Heidi and a horse in it! Still makes me smile.

Off to shower and then go and get the girls at their daycare. It's only about a two and a half block walk, but I'm dreading it. We are under a heat advisory.

Just wanted to let you know that life is good, but busy. We had D, SIL and puppy visiting for the weekend, so lots of catching up to do.

Cannot believe it is time to be thinking about the evening meal, again.

Brenda, thank you. News like that helps. I've told Alie that the support teacher at her high school is very optimistic and says things well get better quickly now that she is getting help. She is getting to be very expensive... it cost $480 for the check and her lenses, we still have to put them in frames, $140 for the steel caps and special shirt she needs for work experience at a blacksmith, $140 for a visit to a specialist today and she has to go to hospital to have a lump removed from her eyelid on Thursday week - who knows how much that is going to cost. At least she doesn't have to wait because we have private insurance. More expensive than going the public hospital national health route, but the only wait is the doctor. Luckily I'm working tomorrow, which will help.

Your cabin looks great! What are you going to use it for?

June, bugger about the photo, we'll just have to imagine it. I'm glad she's happy with this. Little one gratitude makes it all worth it! I hope it wasn't too miserable at bowls. It's drizzling down here too but we made it to 18C.

Theresa, on a hot day 2 and a half blocks is a long way! I hope you are feeling better though. Grrrr your FIL!! Glad he is okay and wish the people across the street were too. It is so easy for that to happen! It's actually kind of scary to think of.

Heidi, have a good trip! I hope you are going to fit something touristy in. I'm hoping the kids surprise everyone and behave themselves.

Tami, ouch! I think it will make a difference with your insurance company. My niece in CA had some insurance-hunting people slam on the brakes in front of her in the middle of an intersection. The police said she was at fault but when the insurance company called my SIL described the accident and asked if that made a difference. They said it did. Fingers crossed.

Viv, I love how you spend the time when you go out to collect wood - knitting and crosswords so far.

MizT, the Community Choir sounds like fun! I love hearing about all the of the stuff you can get up to now. I hope stopping the new med helps you to stay awake.

Nola, a part of the reason some rooms in my house haven't been painted is that I couldn't decide what colour to paint them! I feel for you.

WARNING, long: The saga of the noisy flickering lights.

Morning friends, I am up and awake for the second time today. The first was about 4 am, when our lights went out. Why would lights going off wake me, you might ask? We have a fire alarm/intercom system speaker on the wall of our small hallway, right outside the bedroom. Every time the lights flickered, it let out a WAIL! I suppose it is set to such a high decibel so it would wake you if there were a fire emergency, but just for lights going out? Bad part is, the lights would try to come back on, then flicker off again with another wail, just as I had drifted off to sleep.

As the lights went out, my phone lit up for a few seconds, and I was able to reach up and touch my tapp-it light. Don't know if you have those down under, but it is 3 LED bulbs and a battery in a round or triangular case. You can set them on flat surface, or by the sticky back, attach to a wall or such. Tapping the lens turns it on. I keep one by my bed, one by my chair and one on my fridge. It is not a flood light, but any light is welcome when it is TOTAL DARK. I just do not like total dark, sleep with a night light on, and have since I had my first child, 50 years ago. So after about 3 times just dosing back off and the alarm sounding again as lights tried and failed to come back, I got up. I found and checked all my flashlights, I have about 5 or 6, and remembered my battery lantern, now that 12 bulb light will brighten the living room, kitchen and hall, even into the bedroom. I found only one flashlight (torch?) that needs batteries replaced.

I even have a flashlight in my saddle bag of my power chair. Did I say I really do not like to be in the pitch black dark? The first time our lights went out here, I was downstairs playing cards, and although there are supposed to be emergency lights in the common areas, there are not enough to see more than outlines. We used my flash light, which I kept in my walker, to finish our game hehehe. I was the only female with a flashlight. One of the men had a tiny one on his key chain, fit in his pocket.

OK, after you have checked your emergency lights, what do you do at 4 in the am in the dark? I decided I would read. Today is book club and cause I have slept so much this last couple of weeks, I have not finished the book! It has been ages since I have read a book by flashlight. I read till dawn, decided to turn off all the emergency lights and go back to bed. It was time for my 'on an empty stomach' med and I was getting that when the lights went back on with NO FLICKERING and no noise, yeah. time for some more sleep, I had been up an hour and a half.

So that is how my day started the first time. It was a much gentler awakening the second time, I slept another 4 hours!

SUZY, your comment about having trouble decided on color to paint rooms reminded me of something.

Many years ago, I went to pick up daughter from her father's house one Sunday afternoon. As I walked into the living room to wait for her to get her belingings together, I coud not help to notice these 5 sheets of white poster board taped to the walls. Just blank, nothing written on them or anything. As we left, I asked daughter about it. OH, her father was going to paint the dull drab paneling white, but he could not decide which shade of white!! The poster boards were painted 5 different shades of white for him to see how it would look. REALLY?? FIVE SHADES OF WHITE?? hehehehehe

Suzy, I did stay awake all morning and into the early afternoon yesterday. I was up at 7 and left with the bus at 9 for Lakeshore. It was a lovely day yesterday and once I was dressed after my swim, I went out to the sun to wait for our bus. A lovely breeze, low humidity, a really nice day. Home for lunch, and a short phone call from Daughter #1. I was tired, decided a short nap before I needed to get ready for the July Birthday Party. I even set a timer by the bedside, so I did not oversleep. Fell asleep quickly, and next I know, the timer is going off. I remember turning it off, but I forgot to turn ME ON! I woke 2 hours later, after the party was over.

Parties or functions here usually last one hour, I suppose they have discovered that is as long as they can keep the interest of most of the old folks hehehe.

So the answer to your post is, yes, I am sleeping less, but no, not back to normal yet.

MizT, maybe the loud wail is to let those on electric medical devices know that their machine is not working? What do I do? In the winter time I like to knit (if my fingers aren't too cold), and in the summer I like to read. Darkness doesn't bother me, so I tend to go to bed earlier than usual. I also like to play my battery operated radio ... time passes much more quickly with music.

The grandies have friends over and they're playing water games in the back yard. I went out there and I got soaked. So I got myself a large bucket, filled it, and threw it at them. But they all ganged up on me and I got even more soaked. I'm afraid they did betterer than me.

Went down for our local weather man from one of the TV shows who visited today. I was expecting a bit of weather talk from him, but was disappointed. I cannot tell you what it was he said, he just talked mostly about himself, rambled around for about 45 minutes.

Why do some people always have to argue, disagree?? Before our guest arrived, 2 groups got into a discussion whether he had been here before. One resident was adamant, 'I have lived here 15 years, he has not been here while I was here'. Others were saying he had been here about 5 or 6 years ago. It got rather heated for a bit.
When he came in his first remarks were, 'It is good to be back visiting with you again.' Such petty things to argue about. It would have been so easy to say 'I do not remember him being here before', instead of 'I should know, I have lived here longer than you.' Do they not have anything else to do except pick fights over nothing? Geeze.

OH, my niece fell at work yesterday. she is a home health aide, helping older people 'age in place', stay home as long as they can. She had gone outside to retrieve something at her clients request, fell, and tried to catch herself with her hand. Pulverized one of the wrist bones, is how my sis described it. Emergency surgery to put in plates and pins. So if you have a spare moment, prayers and good healing thoughts to Chris, please.

Book club was this afternoon. No arguments there, good discussion, but no one could decide on a book for next month. I suggested we put in all the titles that were suggested, then draw one, but nothing was decided before we had to vacate the room for another group who got there early for their allotted time.

Almost bedtime. I stayed awake much better today. I laid down only once and did not stay down but 45 minuets. Much better today.

June, so glad you're back at home and comfortable. I was surprised that Laura's ticket cost almost double of what yours cost. Obviously I haven't seen a movie with a child lately. Or maybe your prices are higher, though your ticket price was about the same as what we pay here. Good luck to Belinda and her class with the dance contest.

June, I'm glad the screen door now closes properly! I'm sure placing the screws in the correct holes made all the difference. Of course, it would be MUCH easier to determine the correct holes with someone assisting and helping to hold the screen door in place!

Heidi, I hope that your RV and trailer are now ready for the trip. Of course, I'm still a page behind, so possibly you have already embarked on your travels. If so, thinking positive thoughts that all goes well from beginning to end. Hopefully the monitor for backing up arrived and has been installed! I also hope you find/found your cell phone before your departure.

Suzy, reading about the treatment of Dana and Tahli is shocking. No wonder she was afraid to be in her apartment at night. Hopefully there is a solution that will remove the offenders from her area and not put her and/or Tahli at risk.

Theresa, I hope Frasier is on the mend and no longer limping. How have you been feeling? I hope things are going as well as can be expected for your MIL and FIL! I hope your D and grandies are enjoying the new kitten!

Theresa, I has also read about the Walmart employee being fired for standing up to the dog owner who left his dog in the car. I hope Walmart policies don't allow the firing or will be changed to address the situation. Otherwise, I hope the young lady can find better employment opportunities elsewhere!

Broni, I'm glad you had the eye candy, though disappointed that it could't be shared.

Judy, normal is GOOD! That's a great diagnosis. And don't worry about your piano lessons/playing. I'm sure you're doing better than you think. I tried to keep up with our Ds when they were taking piano lessons, but just couldn't seem to 'get the big picture' and read both left and right hand at the same time. I had to memorize anything I tried to play, so you know I didn't get past one- or two-line songs. Keep up the good work!

Tami, I hope the summer isn't flying by too quickly for you! It was nice to see the photo of your Dad & Mom on TOS. I hope he enjoyed his birthday!

Heidi, congrats on the new bull calf! Are the remaining late claviers likely to arrive while you are gone? I hope IH will be able to handle the responsibility. I'm sorry to hear about your continuing problems with your temporary tooth. I hope it doesn't present additional problems while you are on your trip!

Nola, you have indeed been busy! What a lot of work to get things back in shape. Hopefully you will never again need to face flooding and the damages flooding brings! I hope all your computer woes are soon fixed and you can be in contact with Gath to correct your status as a member!

Brenda, your drain problems were awful - and to think that they were caused by a brick in the drain line. I'm so glad the problem was identified and able to be fixed without digging! Your new log cabin/guest house looks wonderful. Will there be electrical power to it? With that and a patio yet to be built, I think you will certainly enjoy being in your back yard/garden.

Back again - been trying to catch up on everyone's news. Have a safe trip Heidi - hope the kids are not too rambuctious. Suzy - don't beat yourself up about Allie. This is a very difficult problem to diagnose. My sister (who was a teacher for 30+ years) didn't recognise her daughter had the same difficulty for a long time. Now my g/neice is the same - school was difficult until my neice found a school that would encourage her in what she is good in - sport. Allie will find her own niche. Theresa - I feel for you with your FIL. Not much you can do when he is resistant. Hope it is not too hot for you today. We are having beautiful weather here for winter - 19C today. MizT - I love reading what you are up to - you keep yourself so busy. Sorry you missed your party. Healing thoughts for Chris. Good suggestion on which book to read - shame no-one could agree in time. Hubby and I stayed in Melbourne (casino) on Monday night for our anniversary and had a great meal in a little chinese restaurant in Chinatown and a fun night with D and BF at the casino. Dropped him off next day at the airport to go to Brisbane for business for the rest of the week so am footloose and fancy-free for a few days. Went to Trivia at a local pub last night with 2 sons and D - a fun 'family' night. My other son is still ill with pneumonia (Dr now thinks it may be legionella) - he has been ill for 4 weeks now. Dr thinks he may have picked it up in China - so fingers crossed for tomorrow when he gets his test results. Best wishes to all.

Midge, fingers crossed for a good outcome of tests for your son. Isn't there an outbreak of a SARS related respiratory infection now, was that in China? Or anywhere near where he has traveled? I remember reading about it just last week. Sending get well wishes to son.

JULIE, good to see you post, another of your great summaries, but little about Julie! How is the practicing going? What else is keeping you so busy this week?

I should be out and about today. I need to get some blood work done, go to grocery, return an item that did not fit. Woke this morning feeling better than I have in a while and decided today I would get all that done. I had breakfast, and now my tummy is doing flips. there goes the trip for today unless tummy resolves itself in about half an hour. I do need to be back for Scrabble this afternoon. If anyone cannot make it, we do not play and I hate to do that to the others. Telling your tummy it must settle down NOW just does not seem to work, drats.

Thanks for the get well wishes for niece Chris. I have not heard from her today, but she is staying with her Mom until she can manage one handed and be off such strong pain meds.
