Laura got the best costume for her class. All went well until someone told her she was a pumpkin. We then had tears and I want to go home etc. Her father explained that not many people knew about that book. They were also the first class to parade and they were still carrying their chairs into the play ground when they were called up.

The feed truck finally showed up at 8:30 pm! It was only 7 hours late. Or rather 31 hours late since it was supposed to deliver just after lunch yesterday. It was too dark to take it back to the pasture where it's gonna be set up, so we'll set it up just after dawn.
IH made me happy. He told me tonight that he's going out of town on Monday morning, and won't be back until late Thursday. I'm gonna have nearly 4 days to myself!!!

another lovely fall day here in Alabama. I did some cooking, played scrabble and started a new book, after realizing about ten pages in on another book that I ha read that one. It was a large print book, so I donated it to the EP library. the resident librarian will only accept large print books. she will not understand that not everyone here needs nor wants large print. It makes a book to thick, too heavy, causing my hands to hurt.
AC is off, windows opened all day today, enjoyed the fresh air.
Nothing else going on here, so sending hugs to each of you, with extras.

Heidi, did you get the feeder thingy moved out where you wanted it? Or did the other tire go flat as you forecast?
Did I say congratulations to Laura for her win?
Brenda, happy to hear the leg is getting better.
Hi Julie, I know it was late your time when you posted, pretty late MY time and you are an hour later than I am. It was good to know you are OK another day though, thanks for dropping in.
Beautiful sunny fall day again. I had the window opened till early am, got a bit cool, closed it and back to bed. Now sun is streaming in through the window glass and heating up a bit warm. windows all the way open again
I hpe to be working with dry flowers today, giving them some scent with essential oils. Tay picked up some for me, since they are not available at wal mart or other stores with ridding handicap carts.
While at scrabble yesterday, Mary, who cleans for several residents here, came in, asking if I wanted more dried flowers. she was cleaning for Brenda, and she had asked Mary to get rid of an old flower arrangement. Mary knew I was using them, and with Brenda's permission, brought them to me. Lovely roses, miniature roses and other flowers that retain their color when dried, yes, I can use these! I may have to hunt for more containers, and make a LOT of sachet bags, but that is OK with me.
Hugs to each of you, till later.

Just got the creep feeder moved into the pasture for the calves. Then we had to sort animals into their respective pastures. IH had taken a gate down, and cows and calves had gotten into the pasture with the horses. Boy, is there mud out there! We've had so much rain!!! Over 2'' in the last 2 days alone. And it's drizzling right now. The weather forecast had said zero chance of rain today. HA!!!

Greetings, All!
Seems like many of us in the U.S. have had lots of rain over the last few days. FINALLY, the sun poked through the clouds for 20 to 30 minutes late this afternoon and we had a little pink in the small patch of blue sky. After so many gray and rainy days, we'll gladly take it!
Another long day, so headed to bed. Good Night and Sweet Dreams to everyone. Feel free to share these

My male Sun Conure is desperately in want of a mate. I've repeatedly caught him in the nest box feeding the baby cockatiels! This evening, I found an adult female, who lost her mate a few months ago, in northern Georgia, only 5 hours drive from here, and the owner has agreed to sell her to me. I'll be picking her up next week, while IH is out of town. I posted a picture of her on my page.

I didn't sleep well last night, so kinda napped on and off today. I think of it as getting in shape for sorting the 5 biggest calves out tomorrow, taking them to the sale barn on Sunday morning, then going to a Lions Camp Crescendo board meeting Sunday afternoon. Monday will be a day of rest, then Tuesday.... off to pick up the new girl bird. The male came with the name ''Antione'', and if his new mate doesn't have a name already, she'll be ''Marie''.
I intend on taking the RV to pick her up. I can leave very early in the morning, pick her up, take a rest while we get to know one another, then drive home. MapQuest says it just over 5 hours each way. Easy peasy.

I like using the RV because I have my own rest room (I hate using public facilities) and I don't have to worry about stopping to find good food. On the drive home from MizTricia's, I got hungry, so I stopped at a fast food place and got something hot to eat. I started back to driving while it cooled. When I bit into it, there was MOLD inside!!!!! I NEVER want to experience that again!

Hi, Everyone!
Heidi, the sun conure is beautiful. Here's the size information I found on Wikipedia: 'On average, sun conures weigh approximately 110 g (4 oz) and are around 30 cm (12 in) long.' I hope the female you'll be getting appreciates your efforts and both birds will be happy. Have a safe trip next week when you go to pick her up.
Time to head to bed. All the best to everyone, especially

Off to bed. I have to get up early to replace a gate before we sort the calves out at 10 am.
We're gonna sort out 5 of them between 500 and 600 lbs. Right now, the prices are at an all-time high of just over $3.00 a pound.

I've got the stock trailer back (it was out on loan) and it's backed up into the barn, ready for loading the 5 calves up at 9 am. Once they're unloaded at the sale barn, I'll be picking up over a ton of concrete for a project for our new handyman to work on, then I'll get cleaned up and go to the Lions meeting. I'm gonna get tired tomorrow, I see.

Hello all - haven't been around for a while. The sun conure is lovely - I haven't seen that type before. Congrats June on 51 years - that is wonderful. Have been very busy - D and partner split up 2 weeks ago and she has moved back home (plus cat), hubby and 1 son off to Germany tonight so will be kept busy at work whilst they are away. Wish I could go but can't do that type of traveling for now. Will be going to Lakes Entrance in Nov. for a week. A few dialysis patients got together and raised money for a kidney 'bus' to travel to different locations so we could get away from the humdrum. This will be it's first trip and I am so looking forward to it.
You sound so much better MizT and so do you Mamacita and June. And so happy your back is settling a bit Heidi. At work for a while to get some things done before their trip so had better get back to it. Best wishes to you all...

Congratulations June and hubby!
Hubby had a zero birthday yesterday so we had the kids over... It was a fun but tiring day, as usual.
I gave him a bigger TV for the bedroom since our eyes are getting old, day of the week underwear, Ben 10 figurines, lots of chocolates, some DVDs.... Toys in other words. I married a big kid/nerd which makes us a good match.

Heidi, I have so enjoyed your posts. thank you for not letting the pages be empty.
Congrats to June and Ken on 51 years together! My sister and BIL will be celebrating their 50th Dec 31st, but the big party their children are giving them will be mid January, New Year's Eve is not a good time for an open house. I hope you find a wonderful place for your anniversary dinner, June.
Heidi, you have a new handy man? Please tell us more, and what is the project with all the concrete?
Suzy, glad your family had a good time celebrating a big milestone birthday with hubby.
Midge, what a wonderful thing, the 'kidney bus' so you can take a trip occasionally. It would be nice if that were available for more people. I hope you enjoy your trip.
Yesterday Tanya and I went out to lunch, had a nice Oriental meal at a restaurant nearby. But I do wish I could find an authentic Chinese restaurant. Every one of them have Americanized their sauces, added sugar to them, yuck. I have often wished I could ask the waitress of one of the family run places, what are YOU having for lunch, bring me some of that hehehe. Bought a few groceries, visited a thrift store. Tanya found a couple of fall/winter tops, a blouse and a quilted jacket that can be dressed up or down, dressy or casual. The blouse will even go with the jacket. She is a good shopper.
Today was a lovely fall day, mid 60's, warm in the sun, cool in the wind in the shade. I watered all containers and cut back the lantana in the bed in the parking area. It has taken a big growing spell, and was encroaching on the parking spaces in our car park. It was making me itch, wading into the huge bush, caught as I was between an auto and the bush. A good wash as soon as I came in relieved that.
I have been working on the potpourri, and using the cellulose fiber as a fixative for the essential oils. I am not too happy with the aromas Tanya suggested. I do not like lavender, but she assures me that is a very popular scent, and the rose does not have a lot of scent at all. I was able to use drink mix as the dye for the fiber, red fruity punch leaves a nice red orange color. Bought some kind of raspberry and berry blast, for blue. have not tried that one yet. The plastic bags we were using does not keep the scent, had to bring out some of my unused glass canisters to keep the scent out of my house hehehe. I do hope these sell, or everyone I know will be getting sachets and bowls of potpourri for Christmas hehehe.
Enough for now, hugs to each of you, with extras.

Good Sunday evening to all....Nothing much going on here so I haven't been doing much posting. I've read however and commented on tos about some of the things...but do want to send out greetings to June and Ken as you celebrate 51 years together...congratulations and hope you have many more years to enjoy together.
Heidi...I add my voice to the hope that your cows bring you a great price..hard work deserves to be rewarded. Perhaps you'll let me know who buys and slaughters your animals...if you know that is...would love to be able to find a great butcher today that has good products and knows how to cut great steaks...Haven't really had a great steak in years...good ones, well cooked...yet still not like the old days when we had butchers with known products and good cuts of beef...these stores today just don't do as well although the good ones try hard. Many of the cattle just aren't raised the same way...sigh.
Good to hear from you Midge and the bus sounds like a great idea for all. Tricia, your sachets will most likely go like hotcakes...if not I'll be happy to be on the receiving end of some...lol. Okay folks...I'm off to read and do puzzles and play games...take care..I care. Peace.

The only was I can find out who feeds them out, and what processing plant they use, is if there is a MAJOR problem, like Mad Cow Disease. Then they will be easily traced back to me. But the way the buyer is listed on my invoice is by a buyers code number. Not by name. The Department of Agriculture has all the codes. It's difficult for me to get them. It's supposed to be confidential because of terrorist groups like PETA and HSUS (Humane Society of the United States! No relation to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the good guys).
I got home from the Lions board meeting and fell sound asleep. I slept 4 hours straight. Now I have to feed and water the birds before trying to get back to sleep. I have to be up at 8 am to go to the bank for spending money for IH, then I have to take him into town to pick up his rental car. He'll take it back home, load up his stuff, then head out of town until Thursday night or Friday morning.
The new Handy man is a guy named Bobby that Gil hired with my approval. (His previous hire turned out to be one of the biggest thieves in the county. He lasted 2 days.) He has a great reputation for honesty and knows what he's doing. He's renting a farm house on the other side of my hay field, so he's close. I don't ask people personal questions, so I don't know why he isn't working a full time job, but I suspect it's because he has a physical disability. He seems to have some sort of a hip injury and doesn't get around very quickly. His teenage son is a computer whiz and is helping Gil do technical reports via computer, and helping him make some new powerpoint presentations.

Mama... one of the reasons that you can't find the really GOOD steaks anymore is that most beef is processed in huge processing plants that have contracts overseas. The very best of the beef is now sold to Japan for astounding prices. We can't get it. The stuff available to the public here is Standard (used by McDonald's, etc), Select , and low Choice. High Choice and the lower Prime grades are sold to top restaurants in cities. The big processing plants do the cutting and packaging now. The so-called butchers in the grocery stores don't do anything except change the packaging and slicing some of the larger cuts like loins. Most of them know very little about meat grades and qualities. I took courses in the university on meat quality and grading, and have done a lot of studying on the subject here. I figure that if I'm going to raise the stuff, I should have some idea what I'm trying to produce.

Congratulations on your wedding anniversary June and Ken. Hope yiu found somewhere nice to celebrate.
belated happy birthday to your husband Suzy. I am teying to find things for my big kid of a husband for his birthday coming up next month. I also need to find a present for a friend for this weekend. What do you buy someone who has everything and has the money to buy everything he wants.
Richard is going to his boys only weekend. Golfing (Richard is not doing that) on Saturday and gokarting on Sunday. They will go out for either a chinese or indian meal on Saturday but his poor wife will make Sunday roast for them before they come home.
I am going to go north to stay with my brother and his wife for the weekend. I'll get to see my aunt who is now in a nursing home after her last big stroke.
my leg is almost better I can walk properly now but not very far before it aches.

another wonderful Autumn day here, sunny, that bright blue sky that October brings. Cool but the sun is warm. I had windows open till just a bit ago. My 2 large double windows are south facing, and as the sun gets lower in the sky, I get a lot of heat gain from the sun. I had to turn on the AC a bit ago, but will need it only a couple hours, till the sun falls behind the buildings adjacent. I know my first winter here, a mild winter, I would go weeks without ever turning on heat. Last winter was just a lot colder and cloudy, needed heat. I hope this winter is mild and no heat. heated air is so drying.
Brenda, happy to hear that your leg is better. enjoy your weekend with family.
HI JULIE< BYE JULIE hehehe
Heidi, I am glad that Gil hired a handy man that you approve. I remember you saying the previous one was a thief. Did bobby get started on the project using all the concrete?
Mamacita, I will put you on my Christmas list, in case there are sachets left over, or I make more after the sale. The lavender is really a good scent, I am told, and the rose, since I added an 'undernote' of Patchouli. That scent is used a LOT in perfumes usually in small amounts with other scents. Alone it can be overpowering to me. I have a sensitive smeller
Did I say I made soup yesterday? It is good, but not as good as the last chicken veggie I made. Not sure why. but I enjoyed having it for dinner last night, will have again, either a late lunch or dinner tonight again. It has a TON of veggies, easy way to be sure I have my 5 a day. I did not have celery to go in it this time. A week ago, when Tanya brought lunch over, she brought broccoli to cook, and when she left, she took my celery instead of her fresh broccoli. Now I can tell the difference in the dark even, she was not paying attention I imagine heheh
Think I will rest a bit, waiting for my latest medication to take effect. Seems I spend a lot of time doing that, but so thankful I have pain meds. there are people who do not get medications they need, I know a few that are suffering needlessly.
I hope to get to the home store soon to get some pansies. Although my summer flowers are still doing well, it is time to plant for the fall/winter season. Winter before last pansies bloomed all winter. Last winter they got knocked back by the unusual cold, but recovered as temps moderated late winter, very early spring and they put on a GREAT display. Time to try them again.
Hugs to each of you, with extras.

Yes, Bobby is a fast worker. He's replacing a short fence that Robert had put up... badly. The cattle had knocked it over and torn it up. Bobby has removed the remains of the old fence, re-dug the holes, and set the posts in 100 lbs of concrete each .....so far just today!

So glad to hear you finally have some decent help Heidi- you might be able to rest your back a bit now and let Bobby do the harder work. Belated congrats to June for 51 yrs - and many more to come. MizT have you really been there for 2 winters? Seems like a short time ago you were moving.n We are the same here Heidi with our best produce being exported. When I was younger, my cousin was a meat inspector and he used to save some of the better cuts for the family - very handy until he retired. Now I am almost a 'veggie' as the meat we get from the supermarket/butcher seems to be over-processed and I don't trust the preservatives used. Also 2 out of my 4 children are veggies. We had the wonderful experience of a vegan for a few years - really enjoyed (not) having to make our own shampoo, soap etc. Well done on getting a present for hubby you can both enjoy Suzy. Brenda keep on resting your leg and enjoy your time away. I am going to the Craft and Stitches show on Sat. and hope to get some more alpaca wool - love knitting with this and hope to get some ideas for something new and different to do. Hate sitting at night time with nothing to do. Cheers for now

Midge, I moved in here the last week in August, 2011, so yes, two winters! I planted the pansies that lasted all winter the end of September, I had only 2 containers that winter. Things have grown considerably since then hehehe, as a garden is apt to do.
Heidi, hope you had another great suprise in how much the calves brought in Dollars! Have a safe trip and hope the Sun Conure. Hope she is wanting a mate as much as your male. I add my hopes to Midge's that you can let bobby do the heavy work, and your back will improve because of that.
