What a day Heidi. I am glad it got sorted without a fire doing damage.
Your previous post told all you had to do for the animals but sometimes you have to see to yourself first (your ear!) so that you are well enough to care for your animals.

I forgot to add that the reason the computer couldn't get online was because the router was plugged into one of those outlets that shorted out from the water leaking onto the exposed wire to the dishwasher. At least that wire has been removed, and the water to that area turned off permanently. THAT particular problem won't happen again.

Happy, uneventful Tuesday here, and I hope a great day or night where you hang your hat.
Heidi that was really scary from your report....I too am glad all is sorted in a positive manner. That's nice that you and Gil can rejoice for the Nobel prize received by his former classmate. It's a high honor and I know you are happy for the both of them, but especially someone known to you.
June, I'm learning more about birds but still am not sure I will get one....I agree that it's good to have pets, but I continue to sit on my hands....my heart just doesn't seem to be ready yet...So I'll wait until I'm sure. I add my voice to the amazed crowd at how quickly you were able to get back into the full swing at home after such a long flight and all of the walking you did. Good on ya...hope you can keep enjoying and recovering that way.
Tricia, I'm glad the Amazon Prime is working for you and you are reaping the benefits of the free shipping deal. I had no one to share the cost and would spend more money simply because I saw things I wanted and didn't want to wait until I could better afford them...I sometimes have so little restraint...Lol.
Getting ready to head out to the pulmonary specialist for my check up...and to see if more can be done about the shortness of breath...Take care all. Peace.

Back from the Vet clinic with Miss Kitty, my horse. She has cancer. We have to wait for the lab results next week to find out what kind. We're hoping it's just sarcoid. That's treatable. I won't put her through anything traumatic, since she's 27 years old. That's about the same as a 75 - 80 year old lady.

So sorry to hear that Heidi. I do hope it is treatable but if not sometimes we have to put our own feelings aside and be kind to our animal friends.
Mamacita, with your breathing difficulties and allergies a bird may not be the best choice.
a nice cool day and I have had my hair cut. Back to eating a small amount of solid food.
We have a chicken and prawn night at the club this Friday and I wanted to be back on solid food before that.

Hello, Fellow Sudokuaholics!

Heidi, congratulations to the winner of the Nobel Prize for Medicine! That is quite an accomplishment! I hope your ear is improving, and relieved to know that you will make an appointment if insufficient improvement within a couple of days! So sorry to hear about Miss Kitty, and hoping it is the treatable kind of cancer.

Hi, Mama. I hope your check-up with the pulmonary specialist goes well. I'm so glad June thought to mention that a bird might not be the best choice for a pet, considering breathing difficulties.

June, thanks for being alert to Mama's allergies and troubles breathing. It's something that needs to be evaluated if she gets a bird. So glad you're able to eat a bit of solid food!

Time for me to head to bed. Sending healing energy, prayers, {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, positive thoughts, and !

Hi everyone, Well I seem to have found a cold someone wanted to get rid of... and I'm so sorry I did. Feeling lousy, but this too shall pass. Didn't even feel like having my hair cut today and will need to reschedule...life in the fast lane can be sooo difficult....Lol.
June, thanks to you and Julie for the point about birds not necessarily good for my breathing problems and allergies...I hadn't thought about that. Like those who suggested a bird, I was just thinking of the joy and beauty they could offer.
Nola, the appointment went well...he updated some meds and changed a couple of other things that I just have to wait and see if I'm better or call him... so now I wait. How's Paul? Better I hope. I finally got around to posting that picture of us on facebook and shared the meeting with those who don't come here. I have forgotten how to post a picture on this
site, but if someone directs me, I'll happily share again.
Going to visit some other sites until I feel like laying down again...take care all. Peace.

Greetings friends, another busy day today. I had appointment with audiologist today. she discovered one of my hearing aids was backing itself almost out of my ear, not fitting well at all. I was a bit skeptical when she first mentioned that, but later when I asked her about the whistling sound I heard on occasion, she asked which ear, same one, and that was a sign it was not fitting well. OK, so what do we do about it? She attached a 'tail' to it, that circles around the inside of ear, but not in the ear cannal. She said it might take some practice getting the hearing aide in place with that, another step. first time I needed a mirror to see where the tail was located, then it almost fell in place itself. I tried again with no mirror, I do not put aids into ears in front of a mirror, and it went right in. she said she had never seen anyone learn to do it as quickly and easily as I did, yeah Tricia hehehe.

We had a lovely young lady come today to play guitar and sing, then teach us the songs. she had such a lovely voice.

Mama, I only order things, or buy 'extras' around the last of through the first of the month, after all bills for last month are paid, and I see what is left over. the more I have left over, the more things I can order. As i said, only one thing was an impulse buy, when they showed me the sleep shirt for $7.50. As i said, I only buy sleep wear when it is on a good discount price.

It is time to think about Christmas gifts, too. Not sure what my girls will want this year, we will see. I think Joy wants a bamboo stool to put in her very large shower, so she can sit to shave her legs. It is very cute and not a bad price, for her big gift. Not to see if I am offered other bamboo shower stools in the ads hehehe. June, I guess I have not talked about items here a lot, never had ads come up specific to what I mentioned before. and NO, I had not looked up items on eBay, had not even done a search on Amazon for night wear, the sleep shirt came up when I searched for black knit tops.

Heidi, very scary about the water and electricity, bad combination. I would not voluntarily give up my dishwasher, it was traumatic giving it up when I moved here.

OH, for those who do not follow TOS, Jane del Pino not only has an contract on her house, buyer is also wanting to buy her furniture. Jane also found a condo she is seriously interested in, located in Stewart, Fl. She said this will be her new home unless she finds something even better in the next 10 days. When she makes a decision, boy that girl moves!

Falling asleep at the keyboard, so that's all for tonight. I read all posts, thought about you, just cannot stay awake to continue comments. Hugs to each of you.

MizT.... I'm a low tech kind of person. I don't like dishwashers, and prefer hand washing. I've been looking for an excuse to get rid of this thing for years. It's hardly ever been used, and would make a nice donation to a needy family who DOES want one.

I can see why Jane wants to move fast. Too many memories. I bet that her place on Jeckyl Island would be of major interest. I'm glad for her that she had several bidders.

I'm off in a little while to take that cull cow to the processor's. It's a long drive... over an hour each way... because this is deer hunting season. Most processors are only doing deer right now, and this is the closest USDA processor who would take a cow right now. We have to use a USDA processor instead of a custom processor because the meat has to be labelled for resale. I think Gil has already found buyers for a couple of hundred pounds of meat.

I will call the ear specialist tomorrow. The ear is starting to bleed again. Unfortunately, I think this might mean surgery this time. And that's something I'd rather avoid.

Heidi, I know you would like to avoid surgery, but if that will cure the recurring ear problems, and save your hearing from possible irreversible damage, then it is time. Do you think this is allergy related? If so, I do hope it is not from living with your dogs and birds. Do let us know how the appointment goes, we all care. speaking of letting us know, same goes for the results of Miss Kitty's lab tests. Crossing fingers and toes that it is treatable. How exciting that you and Gil know the winner of the Nobel Prize for Medicine, that is something not many can say.

June, did you go with a group for dinner out and the production of Les Miserables? I am glad you enjoyed the night out. When is Veterans Day In Oz? Hope you enjoy bowls that day.

Mama, sending virtual chicken soup and huge hugs, with wishes that your cold is soon improving and then gone. So nice of you to take in that orphan cold virus, but next time I would think a little harder before offering it a home Did you think to ask your pulmonary doc if there would be problems if you had a bird for a pet? It might be manageable, and I know some docs weigh the benefits a person gets from having a pet against any problems it might cause. When Al had a trach, I was concerned about cat hair and dander getting into the trach, nothing to filter it out as the hairs inside your nasal passages do. His ENT doc said the benefits of some pet therapy far outweighed the small chance of cat hair in the trach, and it would come out when we cleaned the tubing. I was surprised.

Julie, nice of you to check in, let us know you are still motivating around, even if you could not comment. Hope tomorrow is not as busy for you.

Today I almost killed one of the Mums I was planting. I was transporting a container with dirt in it, and sitting on top of the dirt was a smaller growers container with the Mum. I was traveling across the drive, that had a bit of a downhill slope, when the Mum, pot and all fell off the foot rest. No stopping the chair, so I ran over it, and broke almost all the blooms right at the soil line, bummer. I did plant up the tiny bit left, because it did have a good root system. Not sure it will have time before frost to send up new shoots and get big enough to bloom, but if the root system overwinters, it might come back next summer. I did salvage the blooms, put them in a vase, and added them to fall decorations, pumpkins, set out on a table. the rust colored blooms compliment the pumpkin nicely. I did get 3 pots of mums planted and set in among the begonias and geraniums that are still blooming. Petunias have played out, waiting till the stores have pansies so I can replant those containers. Something has had a feast on all the impatient, both in ground and in containers. Every leaf and flower is gone, just naked stalks left. I saw some huge 2 inch long grasshoppers, plump and healthy. Not sure if they eat impatiens, but something sure has.

Today was scrabble, and again I came in last place. Lynn pulled ahead of me with her last 2 turns at play, beat me my less than 10 points. We gave Mary a hard time. she Helped Lyn to play her X, then two plays later when it was her turn, used that to make a 50 plus point word. No one really believes her that she did not have that in mind when she told Lyn the spot to play the X, though she loudly proclaimed her innocence. Of course Mary won the game.

Nothing else going on, so I shall close for now. I imagine this will be too long, we shall see. Hugs to each of you, with extras, till tomorrow.

Tricia, we just call the bowls day Veteran's day because you have to be over 70 to play. Nothing to do with war veterans. My skip was 92 and another in our group was 89. Our team lost but it was a good fun day.
Last night was just Ken and myself. Neil and family had given us a voucher for a concert last Christmas and we only just got around to using it.

Hi everyone.
Mama.. Thanks for asking about Paul who is almost better after 2 lots of AB's. He is prone to chest infections and has been most of his life.
June...Greg has ordered me a walking stick similar to yours. Thanks for your suggestions.
Heidi...I, like you, would prefer to wash the dishes by hand. I suppose it would be handy at times, and I have thought of getting one, but those times are few and far between for
our family.
MizT..it is so nice to read your posts and see
how you socialize daily.
Julie...I hope Hubbys headache eases before tomorrows appointment.
Our holiday is about 2 mths away now. I REALLY hope we get a chance to see some snow, for Pauls sake. The sugar cane crush finishes in roughly 3 wks for Paul, then he starts hols early.
Take care all.

June, thank you for the explanation about Veterans Day Bowling. Veterans meaning the older generation, I get it now. Just automatically thought of war veterans, as we will celebrate Veterans Day In November. Birmingham has the largest and longest running Veterans Day Parade in the US. I remember going as a child, and taking my children, too, until roving gangs of young men made it unsafe to go for several years. I think it is again safe to go see the parade, but I am too 9ld for the walking and standing now. It is covered on TV and I shall watch it there. I have been in that parade a couple of times, once in nurse's uniform, on a float the Shriners had, with handicapped children and young adults. Only way hospital I worked for would let handicapped adult be on the float was if accompanied by a nurse. Nice to get aid for riding a float hehehe. someone at hospital had the traditional red lined blue nurses cape, I had my nurses cap even though we did not wear them where I worked, do I really looked the part. that cape and cap seems to be instantly recognized as 'nurse'.

Nola, so glad that Paul is better, happy that he was given the two rounds of antis that he needed to get almost better. Hope he is soon better for real and for good.

Julie, I hope your hubby's headache is soon much better. I agree with you, it would be difficult to drive safely with such a terrible headache.

Heidi, how many pounds of meat did that cull cow render? Will the remainder go into your freezer for family use? I hope your ear is at least not worse today, and that you got something from doc, either more antibiotics ordered over phone and an early appointment for them to see you. I do hope they can get this cleared up one way or another, that has to be a major hurt.

For Nola, more of what is going on at EP. Yesterday I planted the mums, today I bought a flat of purple and white petunias, 5 packages of 6 plants. then another dozed of solid purple to mix in. I should get several pots filled for plants overwinter. I almost bought ornamental Kale plants, they had some ruffled edged ones what were purple tinged on light green. Figured I should get those pansies planted first. There were lots of oooohs and ahhhhs from residents playing games and coming down for their lunches as I went through with them. I put them on the back covered patio till I can plant them tomorrow. It is forecast to rain overnight, and then about a 15 degree drop in temps tomorrow, with overcast skies. Not as hot as yesterday in the midday sun.

Tanya and I went out to lunch today, her arm was OK by this morning, so she came to do the lunch drive for staff. I treated her to lunch, since we failed to go out for lunch for her birthday. ONLY 4 weeks late. We went to Fish Market. this restaurant and market for fresh fish has been in Birmingham for 30-40 years. their latest location was previously a self storage warehouse, and the restaurant left that storage look in place, just adding tabl

and the restaurant left that storage look in place, just adding tables and fixtures on the concrete floors. There is a covered patio, with arched openings, separated from the parking lot by some very old cedar trees. today was the perfect day for eating outside, temp just barely warm, a nice breeze, and only one housefly that had found the area. there were tiny birds, sparrows I think, who had discovered that food would just appear on the concrete floor, they patrolled it frequently. If servers or customers got too close, and I mean stepping on the birds close, they would flutter about 2 feet away and wait for a break in traffic before back to the bread crumbs and bits of food that had been dropped. We had 2 toddler aged boys seated behind us, so the birds were treated to a bird feast .

I found out the new setting for hearing aids, to help ignore background noise, worked. All it does is focus the microphones toward the front, and luckily the happy noisy little boys were sitting directly behind us. I could still hear them, but it was not amplified, and that was very good. I will have left over clam chowder and Greek salad for dinner, plus fish from Tanya's last fish taco. I had never had fish tacos, she shared half of one with me, and I liked! She said these were Greek tacos, Mexican restaurant's versions would be different.

Weather is changing, and pain levels are going up, but I have had a wonderful week, done so many things I had not been able to do in months. another of those times I did not know how bad it was till it got better. that may sound strange, but when condition gradually gets worse, it is not as noticeable. The sudden getting better after the injection of hip and the new medication really was noticeable. Hope this weather change aches will soon be gone and I can get back to doing and going like I did this week. Did I say I went to the bank, and pharmacy and the big box store for plants by myself before Tanya and I went out to lunch? A few weeks ago I could not have managed more than one of them a day. It is nice to be approaching normal again.

Hugs to each of you, with extras.

Happy Weekend my friends,
I'm really happy to read that life seems to be getting better for many of us who weren't up to par. MzT I think you may get the top honors for recovery this week, wow...three stores alone plus going out for lunch! Quite a record. June was our winner last week after her return from vacation and never slowing down...and perhaps Heidi will have luck with that bothersome ear and climb upwards towards full recovery w/o surgery....or at the very least, a healing treatment that will last for some time....we won't even go into the back things. I too am feeling some better...cold is running its course, the dental plan is worked out, affordable and should be completed before Thanksgiving, the back is achy but doesn't stop progress and thus far the meds are helping...now I only need to be able to get a good night's sleep to rid the tired feeling and many of my health problems would be very minimal....Yay...I can really see normal again too Mz T...whatever that means for us...LolLol.Tricia, you asked if I had spoken to the doctor about having a bird as a pet...and no, I didn't think about that at the time...but I do agree that many doctors think people often feel better with pets despite some physical problems. Right now, I think I'll try and get a bit stronger and then think about a new pet...I need to be able to better care for anything I would bring home to love....and right now, I'm not up to where I need to be...so time is a factor also.
Julie, glad you know how to distract yourself while accompanying hubby on doctors visits...I use to do the same thing with Sully. The guys in our lives are usually so good in helping us with these things, that they need to know that we stand with them in their time of need.
Okay, folks...make this good day better if you can and be grateful for what you have...Peace.

We had a rain last night, but it was not enough to water the flowers in containers. I got part of them watered today, will do more tomorrow. I also planted 30 of the 48 pansies plants I bought. Was getting tired and hungry so cleaned up my mess and called it a day. today was very cool, and a bit damp feeling, overcast most of the day, nice to be able to work and not get hot and sweaty. I repotted some geraniums that were in decline, hoping the new dirt and fertalizer will give them a boost. I put them into a hanging pot, will be able to being it in to over winter. I have had good luck with geraniums I have overwintered, they have souch a great root system, come spring they produce huge plants the second year. Also, it will give me a bit of color inside during the short grey months. Oh dear, only a couple more weeks of daylight savings time, boo hoo I need to see if my clear mini lights are working, to go in my window again, and check out the batteries in my candkles. Everything to chase away the gloom of winter months. but first, I must take every one of the hanging plants down, re-pot some, toss others that are not doing well, get them looking better, then I can put up the lights.

Still loving my Amazon Prime. I found my Miralax for a really good price, better than wal mart, did not have to go out to get it, and paid no shipping charges. Can't be better than that!

Did I say I got my will made out? I just need 2 witnesses now to get it signed and legal. We will get one of or staff to notarize signatures, and a self written will will be legal and binding.

I was up early today to go to Pepper Place, a collection of boutique type shops and eateries, plus an outdoor farmer's market on Saturday. they also have a lot of vendors selling home made items at the farmer's market. Shannon was to be our driver of the bus, and she spent the night in the ER, unable to get out of bed this morning. Not sure what, but she migraine headaches so bad they require ER treatment at times, I imagine that was the problem. I came back home, made myself a big breakfast, then took a 2 hour nap.

Heidi, that will be a Lot of burgers from that cow, and good aged Angus beef is hard to beat. I hope your back is better soon. How is the ear?

No, I am not shouting, hit the wrong key and too tired to retype this, my apologies. MAMA, i AM GLAD YOU ARE MAKING FORWARD PROGRESS, THAT THE COLD IS RUNNING IT'S COURSE AND YOU ARE DOING A BIT BETTER. Hope THIS CONTINUES. yOU WILL KNOW WHEN IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO GET A PET, AND ARE WISE TO TAKE EVERYTHING INTO CONSIDERATION BEFORE BUYING A COMPANION ANIMAL.

Hugs to each of you, with extras.

Some people with breathing problems have severe reactions to bird dust. They're not for everybody, but if Mama hasn't been exposed to poultry houses and the like in her youth, she probably won't have any problems now. But her doctor would be the best judge of that.

Another beautiful day today, a bit more sun, a bit warmer temp, but I so enjoyed being outside this morning. I planted the rest of the pansies, cut back a diseased lantana, it was also shading the spot I wanted for the pots of pansies. I moved all the containers of flowers around the post beside the drive, it had not been cleaned in over a year. I got out gallon container full of dead leaves and flowers, and dirt. One of our younger male residents came out to help me for a bit, he is paraplegic, but could sweep with only one hand, and he went to find a dust pan to sweep all the debris into while I found a trash can. Not many will notice, since all the containers on tables and other 'lifts' kept it hidden, but I know it is clean. then out to the garden behond the low wall, some week had taken over, only 4 of them but boy they were spread over half the bed! I think I shall go back, buy more pansies and some purple Kale to plant out there, it is a small area where the petunias were, the rest are perennials. Would add some color there once the perennials go dormant for the year. I think it would be a good spot, and a nice warm microclime, what with the concrete alley paving and curbing to the front, and the 2 foot tall brick wall behind them, both good heat sinks that will keep the freezing temps at bay.

We have n=another front coming in tonight, tomorrow, and this afternoon I felt as if I had been hit by a trick, again. Meds are helping but cannot make it go away, bummer. At least I had a great morning, I am loving being able to do all I have done this week.

There was a knock at my door a bit ago, one of my neighbors and another resident. Martha was wanting someone to take her blood pressure, she had knocked at Ramona's first, but R did not have a blood pressure cuff, but she knew I did. I took her pressure, and it was HIGH. I tried to get her to call the medics then, let them take it but she said it was time for her medicine again, she would go take that. Worries me, hope she is OK. I can suggest, but she has to make her own decisions, you know?

Time for dinner here, not sure what I shall have, perhaps just a sandwich. I had a really yummy lunch, an Angus Beef patty with sauteed mushrooms and onions and a huge salad with feta cheese and raspberry vinaigrette, it was so good. Best part is I cooked enough for planned overs for tomorrow. Hugs to each of you, with extras.

Heidi, I am so grateful for your offer of sharing one of your birds and know that, from what I have read and been told, I'd have a wonderful pet. I have also discovered that cockatiels can live to be 20 years old...that's a long time. I have been exposed to poutry houses as a child, very often since my grandparents had a farm, and in the city at the time, chickens were often purchased from them...so there is another caustionary provided. I have decided to fore-go the adoption of any pet in the near future to be on the safe side.I do not come to this decision lightly, nor happily, but for now at least, I think it is best.Again, I am so happy to have folks like this group, where I know all will understand how I feel.
Tricia...sounds like you have really been enjoying getting things together in the garden...now if I could only get you here to do some of that beautifying in front of my house...Lol. Hope you are able to avoid too many achies due to changing weather patterns.
Okay foks, nothing much going on here..time to check out a few of my games and then get back to my reading...I have so many good books to read and seem to keep finding more....that's a great thing to have happen except I need to rest my eyes a lot since they require some new help...coming up in a week or so...most likely need new glasses, but the exam should shed light on that. Always something...Lol. Peace.

Hmmmm...in case anyone is wondering what I was saying about the poutry house ...the mispelled word should read...'cautionary'.

We ordered a new front door yesterday. It will be installed in 6 weeks. it is a door and side panel as I cracked the glass in the side panel some time back. the old door with fit on the store room which needs a new door.
We also had fish and chips at the beach. I find the water so relaxing.
A cool day (about 20*c ) today so I will go to bowls. Could rain but my garden would like that. Some of Sydney had hail yesterday but not in our area.

Hi, Everyone!

Of course, we understand that you haven't reached your decision about acquiring a pet lightly, Mama! You must do what is right for you. Good luck with your eye doctor visit next week! I recently had my annual check, thinking new glasses would be in the works for me, but was told the change was really quite minor and it wasn't necessary to get new glasses yet.

June, I'm so glad you'll be getting a new front door, and even better that the door being removed will fit the store room. How often does that sort of thing work out?

Sending positive vibes and healing energy for all, as well as prayers, , and {{{{{HUGS}}}}}! Pleasant day/afternoon/evening/night to all!

Last night, I had a bowl of Jello with fruit before going to bed. I don't know how I did it, but one of my front teeth (a crown) came off while I ate.I have it temporarily back in (for appearances only, eating will knock it out again) and I have an appointment with my dentist for tomorrow morning.

Oh, Heidi...What else is going to happen to you? I know...always something...but it's time to let up on you just a tad. Hope things fall back into place and stay okay soon.
Hello all...I'm back from the dentist and have started to get all of the necessary work underways. Cleaning today...next week a tooth must come out and be replaced with a crown...then we'll decide what else MUST be done for comfort and appearance as well as health sake....cost will also have to
factor in. I also will have an eye exam and most likely, new glasses...so my Christmas seems to be getting myself in shape...I do hope I can spend a little on something else...oh well...life has its priorities...and this time it seems as if it's me.

My goal in life is to be bored. I have never experienced boredom, and it sounds marvelous! I can just imagine it! Nothing going on. Nothing to do. SO peaceful and relaxing!

Hi, Friends!

Heidi, you have had more than your share. I hope you can experience boredom sometime. I don't think you'd enjoy it all that much after 30 minutes or so . . .

Mama, it seems it's time to take care of you. I'm sure all of your family would understand that it may need to be all about you this holiday season.

Heading to bed. Our meeting tonight ran extra long. Have been home for a bit, but trying to get caught up on things that had to be left undone so we could schedule a dermatologist appointment. What started as heat rash apparently has become an incredibly itchy case of eczema. We didn't realize how long I'd been dealing with it, until we looked for photos we had taken that go back to early Sept. Hopefully the ointment will help.

Sending lots of prayers, {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, healing energy, , and positive thoughts for all!
