I am home, but tired. I had a bad night after an allergic attack from the awful food at the restaurant. I now understand why Germans aren't known for their cooking. Everything overcooked, and packed full of pepper.

Well, I did get back and read. I thought of each of you when reading. Hope Heidi has/had a great trip, happy to hear Mama is feeling better, love June's reports from her trip, hope Julie enjoyed her 'off day'. Nola, nice to see more posts from you, hope your 'sickies' are all better by now. Suzi, no need to re-live that accident, there was no way you could have avoided the young boy. As Julie said, the child ran into the road, and his grandmother shifted the blame for the accident from him to you. You aimed right at him, because he stepped in front of you at a distance to close for you to avoid him, and you should think about that.
Hugs friends, it is past my bedtime, meds are making my eyes hard to hold open.

Greetings,Everyone!
Welcome back home, MizT! I'm glad you were able to get away for a bit and enjoy your time at Edna's house AND had a chance to spend time with your other sister, as well! Too bad you had to deal with the ups and downs of medication reactions. I hope the new protocol will work for Edna, and possibly for you, also.
Heidi, I'm so sorry you had an allergic reaction to the food! I'm sure you told them you were allergic to pepper, so they apparently thought they used an insignificant amount ? At least you are now home, and hopefully will feel much better soon!
Wishing safe travels, June!

had a lovely sunny day in Valparaiso and Vina del Mar yesterday. One of our ladies had her purse taken at the restaurant last night. Fortunately just her lipstick and room key were in it. Apparently it happens a lot here. We all bought we were being so careful. We fly out 11pm from Santiago (Sunday night) and arrive in Sydney 8 am Tuesday. We lose a day as we cross the international date line. We do stop in New Zealand but from here to Sydney is 25 hour travelling time. A lot of hours in the air.

Good Morning all,
Welcome back MzT and Heidi...sorry that you both have had to face the challenges while trying to have a little fun...but know that you both will deal as best you can. Heidi...as you said, It's always something. Feel better and glad you still had some meds to start trying to get better.
June, a lot of time in the air...hope you are planning on doing little for a few days once home to recuperate. The trip will certainly add the great memories to remind you of all of the wonderful sights and sounds that you have experienced. All is okay here...a few challenges going on...eyes are not quite right, feet and ankles are swelling and some test for circulation done...and my front teeth are in dire need...will see the dentist on Wednesday....not sure what all of these little things mean other than to be fixed and paid for...but all in all, they can be fixed...that's a good thing.
Hoping the rest of you have an awesome day and may you overcome the challenges you face with strength and a smile. Peace.

Grey damp day today, cool and cloudy with scattered showers. I had to find long sleeved top and a knit vest to wear grocery shopping. Got everything bought, brought in and put away before thawing and warming some soup for our lunch. It was very good, Ham, okra and tomato soup, yummy.
Heidi, I hope the earache improves soon. How long did you use the drips last time? Might need them longer this time to be sure no little evil germs are hiding.
Mama, I hope you can get your problems taken care of, an as you said, so glad they are problems that can be treated. Feel better soon, and OH, the big unknown is how you will pay for all that, I know the feeling.
Julie, I guess I was not clear in my writing, or so long winded you could not remember that long hehehe. The sister I visited in GA is Kathy, whom I never named. Edna is the one who lives only 30 minuets away, an she is the one who picked me up for lunch out. Edna is also the one starting the new medication I wrote about. I cannot remember everyone's families' names, so do not expect it of you, just saying so you will know when I talk about them again.
Hugs to each of you, with extras, it is time to climb in bed, under the covers. A bit chilly inside tonight sitting in my gown. till later,

Hello, Fellow Sudokuaholics!
We are puppy-sitting for a few days. She is such a good puppy, so not a problem to have her with us. Hubby had a bit of possible vertigo this morning. He was crawling, rather than walking from one room to another. Puppy saw him, thought he was playing a new game with her, and ran to bring him a toy. We both got a kick out of that.
Heidi, how awful that the ear infection is back. The only good thing is that you still had some of the drops to start treating it right away. Take care!
Mama, sorry you are faced with a few challenges. The swelling can't be fun. Good luck with the coming dentist appointment!
MizT, I suspect my confusion about which sister was which was due to being up too late and half-falling asleep as I read and wrote. I hope the cooler temperatures also brought lower humidity and comfort.
Time for sleep, so sending healing energy,

We are home and I have Laura who likes getting onto my computer. She is asleep in my bed. Yesterday we went to the movies and saw 'Pixels'. I quite enjoyed it and did not go to sleep.
Look after that ear Heidi. Hearing is important and your body does not need that infection. Hope you now have more ear drops.
we are going to Belinda's place today so I may not get to look at my photos till next week.

June, back home and into the thick of things already? That flight home would take me a week or more to recover from. What am I saying? took me a week to recover from a 5 day trip and a 6 hour rive hehehe, I would not attempt a flight such as yours, not to mention all the walking an going going going you have done. How I wish I could do half you do! glad you are safely home, and we will all be here when you do have time to sort your photos and share, so not to worry.
Looks as if I skipped a day posting. Huumm, what kept me from getting here yesterday? I slept late, or rather went back to sleep till mid morning, then Tanya came by both before and after she delivered lunches. then I shooed her out so I could dress and go to the bank. I have closed that account that had a service charge, now have my 'old folks' account without a monthly charge. Also ordered the type checks I wanted, even though I paid for the first checks I will not be using. It is worth the charge to me to have my familiar checks with a carbon copy. Used those for so long now, I would not be good at keeping a check registrar of transactions.
Went down today for my flu shot. A pharmacy sends someone over to administer shots to us, they get a good deal, there were about 30 today who came down for their shot. A few of our very frail residents came down, I sat and talked with one who is 97, still living on her h=own, a bit forgetful at times, but not Alzheimer's, she KNOWS she is forgetting hehehe, as when she was talking with me and looking through her purse, forgot she was looking for her insurance card. She was born one year after my father, 5 years before my mother. I commented on her beautiful grey and blue scarf she was wearing with her powder blue two piece pantsuit. 'I put this on today because I did not put on a bra, I overslept for this today and did not have time.' Way to go Brookie!
Julie, I am glad your grand pup is easy to care for, and how funny she thought your hubby was playing with her. How long will you have pup with you? Could you share the reason you are pup sitting?
Heidi, how is the ear today? Hope it is getting better. It is not good when an infection returns so quickly. As said earlier, you do not need that infection in your body, it does take so much of your resources to fight an infection.
Almost lunch time here, I shall have a bit of a rest before going down to pick up Lynn's lunch for her. she had been out to go to her beauty shop for a lovely new haircut, and was terribly out of breath when she came in to get her shot. I know she will be tired today, and I can save her some steps. I am so glad I can use my power chair to help others.
Hugs to each of you, with extras, till later.

Hello all - I'm back in a sort of way. Had a quick look at posts and glad to see everyone doing ok except for the bugs that keep hanging around, and the nuisance things we are sent to keep us on our toes. My father used to say we are only given what we can cope with and I think that is very true. I have had my op and after collapsed lung, am home with an ileostomy bag this time and drainage bag. It is now nearly 5 weeks since and it has been a very slow recovery. Only can cope with those wonderful endone tablets and lots of rest. But all will be better soon. Will hopefully have the ileostomy bag removed in 3 months and then I will be 'waterproof' again. Love reading about June's holiday - my eldest son was there a couple of months ago and it looked so beautiful from his photos. He is actually planning to return to do more trekking soon. I love seeing other places and as I will not be able to go myself it gives me great enjoyment to see what others do. Heidi, I think you got the short straw - with your back, ear and IH all playing up. You have the patience of a saint. MizT - how lovely to be able to see your sisters. I hope you enjoyed the time with Tanya. Mama - the cockatiel is a beautiful affectionate bird. We had one called Chopper who had the run of our house. He was named Chopper because he loved to chop the leaves off my indoor plants - he used to make us laugh and I could never be cross about it. Nice to see Nola, Julie and Suzy posting. Have to go, best wishes to all.

My problems seem like nothing when I hear what you're going through, Midge. You are the bravest lady I know of. I have nothing but respect and admiration for your attitude and strength. I hope this surgery is a turning point for you.... in the right direction.
Everybody may think I'm insane, but I've taken up a new hobby. Ventriloquism. I've gotten the hang of it now, and just need practice. And a routine. Gil already wants me to perform for his relatives, he's so impressed. I'm NOT ready for that yet, so ''conveniently'' forgot my puppet at home last weekend. I'll post a picture of my new alter-ego, Miss Elsie. She came with that name. I may change it.
In 12 hours, we're working cattle again. I hope the rain ends by then. It's been raining for the past 4 days... hard... and the mud is getting to be a problem.

Hello all.
Gee it is nice to see you posting Midge. After such a long recovery time, we hope you now begin to get on top of your health problems.
MizT and June...It must be great to be back home after your holidays. Loved reading about them.
Heidi...you must be so used to pain that having a shocking ear infection that would put most in hospital, you still manage the farm and enjoy yourself with a hobby. How fascinating to be into ventriloquism. Good on you!
Tami..Happy Birthday.
June...I'm sure it was thrilling to see some of the places you visited. Physically, you did so well walking with a stick and not missing anything.
Julie...your poor husband having to crawl around and have the puppy thinking he was playing. Hope he is feeling better now.
Mama...you also, have been troubled with health issue lately. Thinking of you!
Suzy...have you had an enjoyable break over the school holidays? Now that Alie is no longer at home, it could be enjoyable or very lonely. It takes time adjusting sometimes, to these changes in our lifestyle.
I am OK but the time for a knee replacement is getting closer. Just hope I can manage the next holiday as there is a lot of walking in cities.
As I press submit comment, I hope that it goes thru or the hour I spent posting will be lost. Last time it worked perfectly.
Take care!

Hi everyone...hope all is well or improving where you hang your hat. We need to make the best of what we have and not what we'd want...at least that's what comes to mind after reading the current post...especially Midge's. I add my voice to others in hoping that this operation will allow you full healing but am glad you hold fast to your Dad's words...I agree with them. Thanks for telling me about Chopper...I never realized these birds had that type of personality...I think it may be a good thing to have around now that Jazz is no longer with me, but I need to know how to take care of them first. Heidi, good to hear that you have started to learn a new hobby...It's always good to keep mind and hand involved in anything that can bring pleasure to self and others...Keep practicing and having fun. I look forward to hearing about the exploits of Miss Elsie. It's also a great way to vent when needed....Lol. Okay...off to meet the lady...Take care all...I care. Peace.

The rain held off while we worked the cattle. We had to vaccinate everybody (42 cows, 2 bulls and 20 calves), castrate 8 young bull calves, and preg check ALL the cows. Only 1 cow wasn't pregnant who should have been, and she's been on the cull list since Spring for having very bad feet. Next week she gets turned into hamburger. We have orders for a couple hundred pounds of Red Angus hamburger from Whole Foods. All our beef is raised hormone free.Even cull cows.

Hi, Ladies!
Welcome Home, June! You are such a wonderful example for me in being able to do all the walking you did and keep up the pace. You are amazing to just jump right back into a normal routine and not be suffering from jet lag. Have fun with Laura and at Belinda's!
MizT, thank you for all the help you provide for other residents. I completely understand your preference for checks with a carbon copy. We have had those for a few years, and I don't ever want to go back. We had the same problem and had to re-order and pay again to get the carbon copy checks, but worth it!
I also got my flu shot when we took hubby to primary care physician to get a handle on his dizziness/lightheadedness. Doc did a few quick maneuvers to screen for neurological issues and drew blood, which was fine. He said crystals in the inner hear can be dislodged, and physical therapy may help them to get correctly repositioned. Hubby has annual check with transplant and 3-month follow-up with ophthalmologist in the next week or so; they will be apprised of the situation. Luckily, it is better since Monday.
Grandpuppy was only with us for a few days this time. SIL's uncle passed suddenly. After SIL's father & mother were divorced when he was about 5 or so, the uncle was a father substitute, so it was a major blow. SIL traveled out-of-state to help with arrangement, and D followed a few days later when her schedule permitted.
Midge, I'm sending healing energy, positive thoughts, and prayers for all to go well and a quick healing process after your surgery. It's so good to see your post! Your outlook is very admirable! Certainly hope some degree of normalcy will soon return. Thank you for the update, and take care!
Heidi, I hope the ear infection clears up quickly and completely! You certainly accomplished a lot when you worked the cattle! I think it's wonderful that you are taking up ventriloquism! Miss Elsie looks like a character, so hopefully there will be much to base your routine on! I hope you have as much fun and pleasure with Miss Elsie as I have with learning to play the cello!
Happy Birthday, Tami! I hope you have a wonderfully easy day at school to celebrate!
Nola, I'm so glad your post came through completely and correctly! It's always so frustrating when one gets lost! Are you scheduled for a knee replacement yet, or is it some months off? I know you trip is around the first of the year or so. I hope you have a wonderful time, and the knee doesn't bother you at all!
Mama, I hope all is going well. Seems you are learning more about having a bird. It seems like could be good company.

Had trouble getting here. Kept getting a sign saying 'nice to have you as a member'.
I came home with an infected toenail and making too many trips to the loo. Saw the Doc. who cut a piece out of my toenail and gave me some antibiotics. The other has turned into diverticulitis so I am not feeling over energetic. Day light savings starts today and it is going to be hot.
I still have Laura who has ben playing games on my computer. I offered to take her to another movie yesterday or the local swimming pool but she was not interested in either suggestion so we stayed at home.

I'll tell you how I manage to work the cattle with my back..... I take a methadone an hour before starting, I do what I have to do, and I suffer in agony for the final hour. I then carefully get back to the house and go to bed. For the first 5 or 6 hours, I'm unable to move. Then the spasming lets up a little, but I'm still hurting for several days afterwards. I go through this because it's what I do.

Greetings friends, another busy couple of days here. Sunday I bought groceries, went to the dollar store, looking for craft items to finish my fall basket door decoration, using the basket as a base for a fall still life. I have a scarecrow, small pumpkin (to scale with the scare crow) some grapes, which are not but need something to hang over the edge of the basket, which is on it's side. I did not find the hot glue sticks there, so into the third store, and of course they were on the far corner of the store, about as far away as they could be. I must have been feeling pretty well, cause after I put groceries away, I put an oven full of food on to cook. OK it is a small oven that I have but with baked apples, baked sweet potatoes and a roast to cook, it was full.
I got all that stored away, sliced some of the roast for my dinner, made a salad. I went up to take Dave the K cups of coffee I had picked up for him, very good price, to see if he liked those. He invited me in, and we talked for over an hour, as always we both enjoyed the conversation.
This morning I cut up that roast, put it and the pan juices into the soup pot, and started chopping the veg for the soup. Washed all the yesterday dishes, all the ones I generated cooking then and this morning. soup id yummy! Tanya came in with my clean clothes, so put them away while she went 'to work', picking up the lunches for residents. So I think I deserve this rest break hehehe.
Heidi, so sorry to hear that your head is also stuffed with concrete once again, so sorry. I know you started your ear drops again, but did you let the doc know it had come back? Might be worth the price of a phone call to let them know.
Like Julie, I wish I knew June's secret, how she walked so much on her trip, traveled for over 24 hours home, and immediately jumped into the thick of things with family. You do amaze me, June, and I think you have a few years on me, even.
I am enjoying having Amazon Prime, and using it a lot. So much easier than having to hunt stores for an item. I wish now I had looked for and ordered glue sticks online. I needed to replace a small electric heater, was reminded the morning our temps went to 53 and I had not turned on the central heat. The house was cool when I stepped out of the shower. So instead of shopping several stores to find one like I had, I found it online, it will arrive today. I did make one impulse buy. Was looking for something else, when they 'suggested' a knit sleep shirt, for only $7.50, not only free shipping with Prime, but free returns if it did not fit, and it was made my Hanes. Yep, I bought it, in RED hehehe. I try to buy sleep and lounge clothing when I find them at a really good offer, cannot see paying $30 to $40 for something I shall sleep in. Sharing the Prime account with Joy, it only cost me $50 for the year, and in one month I have saved over $30 in shipping charges. I do think it shall pay for itself, and save me lots of trips shopping

I do think it shall pay for itself, and save me lots of trips shopping, did I say I hate shopping?
Did all of you see on TOS that Jane put her house on the market Friday, and already there is a bidding war going on? It amazes me that in today's housing market, people often must offer more than the asking price to get a house. It is a good thing Jane has a Plan B, somewhere to move into if she has not found where she will live next.
Enough for today, more to do here. Want to finish that door hanger thingy and get ready for Joy to visit tonight. Tanya will be back for her lunch soon, too, she spied my pot of soup. Must go make cornbread to go with.
Hugs to each of you with extras, till later.

Tricia, haven't you worked out that anything you mention on your computer is then mentioned 'for sale' in the adds! Especially if you look up something on Ebay.
I took anti inflammatory every day while I was away. I also have an elastic knee support (which I stopped wearing when going through security scanners as it set them off). I also do not push myself more than I am comfortable with. I stop and sit for a few moments if my back/knee etc was getting too much. Only takes a few moments and I am ready to go again. I could not have done it without the walking stick. It is a spring loaded hiking stick.
I could not push myself like Heidi I would have to pay someone to do the heavy work with the cattle and supervise. Heidi, every time you do that it must be doing more damage to your already injured back. I do hope that you have gone back to the Doc. about your ear and it is now on the mend again.

I'll give the Ear specialist a call in a day or two. Tomorrow I'm taking a horse to the Vet's to treat a growth on her eye lid. That's Miss Kitty, my oldest horse. She's 27 now.
On Wednesday, I believe I have to take a cull cow to the processor, over an hour each way. This cow has VERY bad feet, and has problems walking. She also didn't get re-bred, altho' she was in with both bulls for several months. Right now the price of cull cows at the auctions is rock bottom... almost give-away prices. And we have a long list of requests for Red Angus burger from Whole Foods and others. We can make more selling her meat than we can selling her live.

We had an interesting day today. I got up, and went to turn on my computer. No internet connection. I tried rebooting a couple times, and it did nothing. Shortly thereafter, Gil started screaming that he had an emergency downstairs. Water was coming through the ceiling, and most of the power was out downstairs. The water turned out to be a leak in the hose to the dishwasher. As to the power, I went into the laundry room to check the breaker box. The circuit breaker for most of the basement, and, for some strange reason the dishwasher, had tripped. I reset it, and heard screaming coming from under the leak. There was smoke, and a small bit of fire coming from the area where the water had leaked through! I quickly threw the breaker again, and we called George for help. He came right over, and we traced the short. It, too, was from the wiring under the dishwasher. So we cut off the water to the dishwasher, and cut and tied off the wiring to the dishwasher as well. Problem solved. In a week or so, we're gonna pull out the dishwasher completely, and put in a storage area there instead.
Then, we heard that an acquaintance of Gil's (a parasitlogist who had the same major professor in grad school) just won the Nobel Prize for Medicine. We're both thrilled for him. He's Dr. Bill Campbell. Gil has been calling a lot of people to tell them. The first one he called was his father, who also had the same major professor in grad school.
