Julie, what a long day! The performance and meeting with friends sounds like it was great though.
June, I'm so glad you are feeling a little better. Enjoy your time with Laura!
DorA, I was hoping it was that version! I find closing your eyes for bits of it makes the storm even more real, though it's also good to see how they are doing it.
Alie saves the day! She talked to mr Google and has fixed my iPad! For now at least. It's getting old for an electronic device. My phone completely crapped out though. She helped me pick a new one and paid for it. I was going to fight her for it, but then let it go because she hasn't paid any board since she moved home. My last 2 phones were the latest and greatest because hubby insisted, this is a cheaper version but should still be okay. I hope. At least the kids will be able to reach me when I'm not home and on the wifi.

Great posts, Suzy!
I didn't donate the whole blood today. They were desperate for platelets, which I used to give regularly, and asking EVERYONE who came to the donor center to give platelets. I had taken a baby aspirin last night, so couldn't. If I gave whole blood, I couldn't donate platelets until Sept. 3, so we decided I wouldn't donate at all today and will skip the baby aspirin for a few days so I can donate platelets on Thursday. Platelets can be donated once a week, but I never did more than twice a month when donating regularly, so I can donate a couple of times before Sept. 3 rolls around.
I'm turning into a pumpkin, so heading to bed. Sending lots of {{{{{HUGS}}}}},

My friend Debbie has a husband we've called ''Boob'' (instead of Bob) for years. She's been seriously considering divorce. Well, last week, an x-ray showed a tiny black spot (6mm or a little less) on his lung. They did a CT scan the next day, and it had already grown. Yesterday he went into the hospital for a biopsy. The spot was already black, dry and crumbly. They told him today that it's definitely 4th stage cancer, and VERY bad news. They don't think anything can be done for him. Debbie, being a good person, will be sticking by him to the end. They haven't yet told Boob how long he has, but it doesn't sound good. He also has a very bad heart with pacemaker, and diabetes.

Oh, yeah... Debbie just told me...... they told Debbie after the biopsy that the ''spot'' in the lung is 6 to 7 INCHES in size!!! And he's spitting up blood. She can't believe this.

Sorry to hear about your friend Heidi, my f-I-l had a similar experience. He only lasted a couple of months after they found out. A horrible way to go. She will be needing her friends now.
Suzy - chuck out the fridge magnet and try 'I knew better but I did it anyway'. Or 'If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun' - they keep me smiling. Loved those years with my boys and daughter.
Julie I thought of you when I saw on tv a man in Croatia walking along the street playing a cello like a guitar.
Hope MizT and her d are o.k.
June - glad to see you are getting some energy back and wish you a good time away.
Best wishes to Tami, Broni, DorA and all I have missed.
Think my eldest is in Japan now - waiting to hear again.

We had a lovely time away. I did quite a bit of walking as long as I could take my time and it was on the flat. The unit had a great view looking over the mouth of the river and we watched all the coal loaders and other boats coming and going. It was showery on one day but we managed to dodge the rain when out and about. Belinda and her boyfriend came and joined us for the last couple of days. Tonight we go and see Laura perform in the Gang Show (put on by the Scouts) Last Monday morning a group of scouts were on the morning show which is broadcast throughout Australia. It was fun seeing Laura on TV.

Suzy, it was the early ch. 7 Sunrise show. The scouts were on about every half hour after 7 AM till about 8.40 AM. Laura did not have anything to say but she was in a shot each half hour. They had to be at the scout hall at 5 AM so she was a very tired girl when she came to us. We have been to the gang Show tonight. Laura was in the chorus. She does everything correctly but does not show a lot of enthusiasm.

They're doing a lot more tests on Bob today. So far we've learned that the cancer has spread all through his lymphatic system. We don't know where else yet. They'll find out the results next Tuesday. Right now they're talking very aggressive chemo.

June, I saw one segment when I googled. They were building a milk crate tower with a girl on top. I'll watch again and look for Laura.
Heidi, it sounds like they are aiming to give bob as much time as they can. Mum just decided to have no treatment at all. I recently realised I was/am angry with her that she didn't even try. I wish bob the best, even if he is a boob. We're all boobs sometimes.

Wow. So many sirens going past this morning. A neighbour counted em. 5 ambulances and six police cars. I just saw anothe siren go past, a station wagon ambulance. An extra pull off duty? A supervisor? I'm glad I'm headed the other way this morning.

Hi, Everyone! I actually got to the computer earlier this evening, and I'm starting here while I'm still wide awake!
Suzy, how long will Alie be with you? What a great idea to pick her up while in your jimmies! I'm glad the sirens this morning were going in the opposite direction as you were headed! Hoping it was nothing too serious!
Heidi, is your 36-hour nap a record for you! No wonder the animals were hungry and impatient! I bet you were hungry too! I'm wondering if you received any mail on Saturday. None was delivered at our house.

Julie, someone who works on the base, it was on the road alongside the base, said it was car versus truck with a fatality. Navy base, i forget you aren't locals sometimes. I didn't hear a helicopter so nobody was airlifted to hospital. That happens a fair bit down here, people are airlifted to the big city hospitals where there are more specialists.
Heidi, hope you were able to stay awake for a while. Alie was sleeping around the clock for a while after she lost her dad. I got her into counselling and the counsellor said it was guilt. If she was awake she should be doing x,y,z, but if she was asleep she had a good reason not to do anything. Even awake she doesn't do much. She sometimes cooks me dinner since I still don't cook, but she doesn't clean up afterward, she doesn't even take her plate to the kitchen! I have resisted nagging because she responds worse to nagging.

Back to chemo tomorrow morning. My hair is falling out. I bought a cap today and tomorrow I will see about a wig. I had thick strong hair and now you can see my pink scalp. I tried tying scarves to see how they look but I was not impressed. I do also have a nice red hat I bought a few years ago. The cap today is deep purple.
I do hope that you feel better Heidi after that long sleep.
Suzy. Not nice having all the emergency vehicles going to the Navy base. How hard for you and Alie both dealing with your grief and trying not to upset one another. I do want to get down to see you but I need to sort out what is happening with all my treatments.

June, one of my fb friends, actually Alie's boyfriends mother, lost her hair to chemo. She wears a scarf, it looks good, you might be able to see a photo of her on my friends list, though I have that pretty private so maybe not.
I told Alie last night to stop lecturing me like I'm 12 years old. She has decided that I am moving to junee, whether I like it or not.

June when I lost my hair for the first time, I just wore a wide headband and a turban style felt hat - both were comfortable until regrowth started and they were too itchy. There are some really nice beanie/ cloche hats around now at the craft markets, maybe you could try one of those.
Suzy good on Alie for trying to help - can be a bit frustrating though when your D assumes she knows what is best for you. I imagine she just wants to keep an eye on you all of the time. When you are ready you will know what to do.
Off to see KD Lang tonight - present from my D for my birthday, then the races tomorrow where a horse we have a small share in is racing - first city race so quite exciting 'cept it is supposed to be very cold and wet (as is usual for Melbourne this time of year).
Heidi - hope the sleeping is settling down to a more normal level. Is there anyone who can help you with feeding the animals?
Suzy - just remembered my mum used to pick up dad from the station in her 'jamas until one time the car broke down. You can imagine her horror.
Cheers to all for now.

Good one Heidi. I have one of The Dalai Lama's books that Dino gave us when she stayed with us for a couple of weeks a few years ago. It also has some wonderful sayings. I bought a cap yesterday, I have a hat and beanie and today I bought a wig. I also have a collection of scarves and did look up Mr Google on ways to wear them. So far I do have enough hair to venture out .(JUST)

I have yet to read a single quote by the Dalai Lama that isn't wonderful and truly brilliant in it's wisdom.. I wish the world would follow his teachings.
I love hats of all types, June. Even silly ones. I never feel fully dressed unless I have a hat on. One of these days I'm gonna count to see how many I have. I suspect it's over 200.

Wonderful quote, Heidi! I'm glad you didn't wait for a TOPP. On the other hand, feel free to share it again when a TOPP is available!
June, will you be sharing any of your new 'looks' provided by hats, caps, or scarves? (I think you are much too beautiful inside and out to need to worry about your looks.)

I may just have figured out why I'm sleeping so excessively. My ear, that has the tube in it, is bleeding again. That means I have another infection inside the ear drum.
Bob and Debbie met with the oncologist today to get the results of all his tests and hear his prognosis. It's bad. Not only is the cancer in the lungs (remember the 7 inch area that's black, dry and crumbly), but it's throughout the lymphatic system AND they found several spots on the liver. Besides the cancer, the bottom third of Bob's heart is dead, he has diabetes and he's obese, morbidly so ccording to the doctors. Without very agressive chemo, he has 3 to 6 months to live. With agressive chemo, he'll live no more than a year. They told him that this cancer is so agressive that it probably only started 2 months ago. Bob has opted for the chemo. He'll start in a couple of days. Debbie is in shock. Despite all their problems she does care about him, and she has a big heart.
