Well Elaine didn't get the job she went for. They appointed the applicant who already works there, but they did offer her a teaching position, with an added incentive of the position of Duke of Edinburgh scheme co-ordinator. She does this at her present school. She doesn't know if she is going to accept the job until she finds out what the set up is for D of E. How many staff participate in the scheme, what their equipment is like etc. So it is still up in the air what she is hoing to do.

Hi, am home again from being away a few days with K & J, at Margo's Place with Anne and Margo.
We have had so much fun.
The Ladies (K & J, Anne) are on Rottnest Island today. I will be picking them up when the Ferry returns at 5.00pm.
all 3 Ladies will be staying overnight at my house. Tomorrow Morning early, K & J fly out to QLD, and Anne drives back down to Albany.

Long busy day for me. Promoting our 'gardeners Group, chatting up even visitors searching for volunteers. I find I now need business cards hehehe, with name and a way for people to contact me. Maybe use my other screen name and give out only my e-mail, not being bothered all day with phone ringing when I am busy with stuff.

Heidi, so glad vet found a fixable cause for Sere's weight loss. Human mothers have problems during and after delivery with their teeth. Old wives tale, loose a tooth for every child. Baby is going to get what it needs, even if poor mom suffers. Could this be a problem with horses too?

I need my bed, still tired from yesterday. I want to play scrabble at 3 tomorrow and birthday party at 6:30. So I best rest up tomorrow morning. should help if I can get a good night's sleep tonight.

Hugs to each of you, with extras.

Daily anecdote: Before she had her tonsils out Alie accidentally called her math teacher hot. He came to the classroom a bit sweaty and she said 'you look hot sir'. She is yet to live it down. Then she baked cupcakes and took them to school. He said 'I've always wanted to call you cupcake and now I can'. So yesterday she didn't want to do something (I think it had something to do with hot chocolate). He said 'Cupcake, you'd better watch out of I'll remind you that you called me hot'. She said 'I'm leaving' and stomped off (with a smile, she wasn't really upset). He apparently told his wife the story saying she stomped her foot. They think Alie is hilarious. It's all accidental of course.

Yes, MizT, mares put everything they have into their babies. I thought (and so did everybody else) that THAT was the cause of her weight loss. But after her baby was weaned, she started losing weight even faster. Once she started coughing, I panicked. The coughing was probably from unchewed food getting caught in the throat. Since horses can choke to death just like people, this was dangerous. I was just out in the barn with her (1:30 am) and she's really putting away the groceries. Her hay consumption alone has doubled in the past 12 hours.

I'd better get to bed. I need to go buy more feed for Sere tomorrow. And bedding for her stall. I'm keeping her in at night so she can get grain twice a day, and she can spend the day out with the herd.

Oops Suzy can you get the car inspected tomorrow and do the rego too?
I suppose your inspection is like our MOT test, we have some garages where you can just turn up and wait while it is being done. Your rego will be like our toad tax which we can do on line or at certain post offices as long as we have the MOT and insurance documents.

SUZY, I do hope you can get the inspection and registration done in one day. Is there heavy penalty if you are late? Long lines at registration? Good luck!

Alabama does not yet have testing/inspection of autos before registration. Just proof of insurance. Here everyone has to go to the county court house or a satellite courthouse, in county of residence. With downturn of economy, many satellites were shut down or downsized. In Jefferson County, where I live, long lines form before opening. An employee could come out and count persons in line. When he reached a number he thought they might accommodate before closing, he sent the rest home. So one could stand in line hours and still not get the registration, your car tag.

Daughter got mine in Chilton County, where I once lived and still own our old house. There usually is no line, no waiting and she was done in 15 minutes, on last day tag could be bought without penalty. I might be driving with an illegal tag!

Registration is due for different people different months, assigned according to your last name to spread out the crush of people. . B people are due in February.

Tis 6:30 am, way to early for me to be up, but might have the painter in today or whenever. Yesterday they found me in my flannel robe, still in bed, with terrible bed head hair. Thought today I would put on soft knit clothing, suitable for public before going back to sleep.

Heidi, glad to hear Sere is now able to eat and is really packing food away. Will you still have to cancel your trip to Florida? Can she put on weight enough, get healthy enough to go through another pregnancy ? If you cannot breed her in April, when would be next chance for her, and any idea when you could get another date for her?

Suzy, too funny about Ali. Thanks for telling us.

Hi Julie, glad you dropped in to let us know you are OK. Hope you have an easier day soon.

I have another lovely bouquet of flowers on my table. Someone brought flowers for residents yesterday. If I have not told ya about how we get these lovely bouquets, ask, and I will tell.

Back to bed for me as soon as I have a light brekkie. It has been 5 hours since I ate last, and would be good to have at least one serving of allowed carb, since I am awake anyway.

Hugs to each of you, with extras.

I took one of Hubbies Panadiene forte tablets. Has helped with the aches but is keeping me awake. More bowls later today so I do need some sleep. Will now try a small hot chocolate.
so pleased Sere is OK.
Suzy's car has to have a mechanical inspection unless it is under three years old. It is illegal to drive with out registration. Big fines if caught and if you should have an accident you would not be insured.
Brenda, sorry Elaine did not get the job but I am sure something will come up if she does not take the second offer at that school.

MizT what you have to go through to get the plates on your car is ridiculous. Here when a car is first registered/bought it is given a registration document and number. This stays with the car for it's life (unless you purchase a private/cherished number which you can transfer, at a cost, to any car you want) at present we have to display a tax disc which we can pay for either for a year of 6 monthly. Soon we will not have to display the disc as details are all on computer which the police and authorities have access to. The police know instantly if you have tax and insurance. Once a car is 3 yrs old we have to have the car Mot'd before we can get the tax disc.

I'm happy to live in Kentucky with our easy peasy registration and regulations. No inspections, except if you live in Louisville, which has different laws. There is no penalty if you're even a month late renewing your registration. To renew, all you need is insurance, and you don't even need to bring proof of insurance in. They have all the insurance records of the insurance companies in the computers at the county courthouse. Lines? Nope. I once had to wait behind one person for 5 minutes. Usually, you walk in, greet the clerk by name, and hand them your renewal notice if you have it. If you don't, you just tell them what you want to do. I recently went in to renew the tags on the RV. I was the only customer in there. I handed the clerk my notice and asked if she wanted to see my proof of insurance. She said ''It's all right. I know you're insured.''. Easy Peasy.

Suzy.... is your hubby going to take it in for inspection?

Sere is happy to be out with the other horses again. I could see she was lonely all by herself in the barn. I'm just bringing her in at night to eat unmolested. She's near the bottom of the pecking order.

Our rego/registration is due on the anniversary of the date you bought your car, or rather the anniversary of the date your car was first purchased. We need a mechanical and physical check and anything that fails, eg tyres, rust, must be repaired before you get your pink slip saying your car has passed. We also have to get compulsory third party insurance, which is separate from the insurance that covers your car, it covers people in cars you may hit. Then you can pay your rego. Because I have a wonderful mechanic who fitted me into a very full day I should be able to get it done by driving around. If I can't get it done today there is no penalty, but I can't drive my car.

I'm sitting at McDonald's hoping he doesn't finish the car too quickly because it has started to rain and I don't want to walk back in the rain.
Brenda, we used to have a sticker on our window with all of our rego details on it but don't need one anymore for the same reason. We have discovered that is a problem if you want to check when your car is due but don't have the paperwork handy.

Brenda, does your daughter want the other job?

Heidi, I never realised how much horses like company until we had one in our paddock. It's very common out my way for horses to be kept one per paddock.

:( it's pouring rain and I'm sadly watching a border collie tied up in the back of a ute/truck. If I had an umbrella I'd stand next to it, but I don't even have one for me!

I overdid it today lifting bags of feed for horses, dogs and birds. As soon as I got home from shopping, I went straight to bed and slept for 3 hours. The back thanked me, and isn't screaming.

We get reminders through the post for the tax, but Richard has set up a data base at home with all the details of all our cars ie when tax and insurance are due, when MOT is due, he has even put tyre pressures on in the data. The MOT is the only thing we are likely to forget about so I have them all on my phone calendar with reminder alarms set. Our minimum insurance requirement is 3rd party, but we have fully comprehensive on all our cars, it doesn't cost much more. Tax on the cars is around £280 a year. My insurance for the Volvo is £300. The kids insurances are maybe a little higher but not much as they have been driving accident free for a number of years. Apart from Andrew who doesn't have his own car, but was a named driver on Richard's car. Fortunately Richard's no claims discount is protected so we didn't have to pay more to insure the replacement car.

Gekko my friends.
Cyn and I had a lovely afternoon with Jane,Kathy, Mr Cee and Grasshopper this afternoon on their stop over on their way Cairns.
Susan has posted that the weather may be a bit wet up there, but she is catching up with them on the weekend I think.
Kathy was looking a bit tired but think it may have been the bike ride yesterday.
They are both wonderful people and I am so looking forward to having them stay with me, just stressing from getting the house presentable for all the guests next Friday.
Yes MizT, would love to hear about the lovely bouquets?

Broni, you are not the only one getting stressed! I have so many jobs that I have started and the pain in my shoulders at night means little sleep and things to do!
I had another remedial massage today(Tricia, it means he works on all the problem areas and also involves electro puncture and other treatments). I felt good when he had finished but could not sleep again so have just hit the painkillers again.
He thinks it could be from my upper spine as you can hear my neck 'creek' when I move it, or I will also get my Doctor to look into Polymyalgia.
With all that I must admit I do feel better during the day and with the aid of pain killers and rubs I had a good game of bowls and our team won again!

Interesting reading about the cars being registered...seems there so as many different ways as there are places that have cars. Here, we have a mechanical inspection and fix of cars that is mandatory once a year, dated from when car was first purchased, then cars are registered simply by filling out a form, having information regarding mileage, insurance etc and 26.00$...the inspection, depending on the cost of repairs can be cheap or very expensive. Broni and June, I do hope you don't stress out too much trying to get your desired things done before entertaining folk...as great a reputation as you two have from all who have enjoyed your efforts...I'm sure everything will be simply marvelous and would like you two to enjoy it as much as those on the
receiving end. Yes Tricia...agree with Broni...tell us about the flowers. Julie, seems as if you may have lost a friend or someone you worked with, if I read correctly on tos...I send my condolences. Good to have you stop by ,but please don't feel you have to sacrifice your opportunity to rest...comment when you can...read when you can and stay well.Okay folks...be good to others but kiner to yourselves...you are oh so worth it! Peace.BTW...forgot my manners so Hello...LOL.

I should amend my post about registration. If your vehicle was registered in your county of residence last year, you can go online and get your renewal. the actual plates or tags are good for several years. In top right and left corner, there are places for stickers or decals, those you get every year to update your registration. but persons without computer ot computer knowledge or who want to save the $2 fee for having it mailed, go stand in line! Or if you have bought new auto, or moved, you must show up in person. Since daughter chose to go to Chilton county to registar it last year also, it was not an option to mail it this year, they would need an addres in county.

We have up to a month grace period. Some counties charge a small late fee, some do not. If you are more than that, you can sign a declaration that the auto has not been driven on public roadways since it's registration expired. IF they find from accident records or traffic tickets issued that the vehicle was driven, it is a major fine. I had to sign such a declaration once, when vehicle had major mechanical problems and was not drivable, we did not get registration until Al could repair. did not want to pay registration on a vehicle that might never run again . Another time, we bought a used auto, it was delivered to us to test drive and we bought it while parked at our house. On a new purchase you have 10 days to get registration. It needed brake work before I could drive it, and that did not happen within the 10 days. Since I had no vehicle, I could not go get registration changed. So when I did go, I told them it had not been driven since i bought it. They thought they would get me, said you had to drive it home didn't you? Nope, bought on our property. Dealer might have driven it without a registration, but not me! Not all dealers bring out used autos to your location, but this was a friend, and his son lived next door, reason it was delivered to us.

Must get my day started, need to send off a few e-mails about gardening, make me some cards to hang out, and get to grocery, pharmacy, bank. another busy day, but nothing planned for here today. Might squeeze in a bit of gardening if back holds up. Hugs to each of you with extras.

Spring has come via the calendar...hope Mother Nature will agree to warm up a bit and not have too wet a spring season. To celebrate the change in seasons, Angelique's school is having a Father/Daughter Spring Fling. Angelique will be escorted by her maternal grandfather and they will both be dressed to the nines for the dance...I think she's even going to have a corsage ...lots of excitement building...the dance is tomorrow night...I'll try to have some pictures of them posted when I can....so cute to see her looking forward to her big date.
Nice start today...I feel great and have managed to get lots of stuff done...now if I can only convince myself to get that hot slidy thing out and put it to good use for about an hour...I'd really be cooking with gas... oh well..can't ask for everything can we. Okay folks...hope you all get to feel as good as I do pretty soon, if not better. Sending hugs, jugs and healing vibes to all. Peace.

Boy what a difference a few hours can make in one's life. Shortly after I was happily looking forward to Angelique attending her school's Spring Fling, a turnaround happened and she will not be going. It seems that due to the uncertainty of being able to be the escort, my son-in law didn't get the tickets in time. When they tried to get them today, they learned that the gym occupancy level had been reached and she can't go. Disappointed...sure...but trying to make alternative plans seem to be helping...she's okay...so are the rest of us.As they say...the best laid plans often go awry! Peace.

Saw the Doctor today. Waiting for the results of the blood tests but it definitely looks as though I have Polymyalgia. No wonder I have been in so much pain at night and in the mornings.
And just what I needed with Jane and Kathy here in a weeks time. Also Ken has his first lot of day surgery next Wednesday.
Mamacita, sorry about Angelique. When something like that is on every child in the school should have the opportunity to take part.

Broni, there is a lady in our area that somehow gets flowers after weddings, corporate banquets and meetings, ladies lunches and such things. she takes these flowers from the larger arrangements and makes them into Many smaller arrangements. she gets colored beer and wine bottles and cuts them down with a glass cutter to make the containers. Some of us return the containers to her. sometimes she uses the tins food comes in, wraps them in pretty paper she somehow attaches, just like a label is attached, then ties them with ribbon or raffia. Very pretty, She brings them up to us, and puts on a large 8 person dining table that is used as a conference table, located in our lobby.

It is never announced there are flowers available, would be a stampede, but as soon as the first person sees them and walks through the public areas with one, residents know. It is strictly first come first served. Tuesday there were enough bouquets to cover that huge table, and when I first saw them, they were only a few missing. by the time I chose mine and then snapped a couple photos, half of them were gone! that fast. Lovely mix of hydrangeas, roses, berries, and some exotic thing I know not. I do love getting them and appreciate all the effort she puts into them and her talent for making really lovely arrangements! Each is different, she does not figure out one design and make them cookie cutter style. this is obviously something she loves to do! It shows in the finished product. She gets a lot of enjoyment without having to pay for the flowers and brings a lot of color into our lives.

So that is the story of the flowers

Greetings, Everyone!

Lots of discussion about car inspections and registrations. I'm too tired to even try to figure out what we do, other than annual proof of insurance and renewal of license. I think there's also an annual inspection if the car is more than 2 years old.

Suzy, cute Alie story! It's nice that she has a teacher with whom she can have a bit more relaxed/less formal relationship.

Heidi, good news about Sere! Sorry all the moving of feed bags was hard on your back, but so glad the nap was of help!

June, sorry to hear of the diagnosis, but at least you now have an explanation for your symptoms. Hopefully there will be a treatment that will help. Congratulations on wins at bowls, in spite of the pain. Remember, K and J are not coming to see your house, but you. Their memories will be of the wonderful times they have while visiting so many of you! 'It is what it is.' 'Don't sweat the small stuff.'

Mamacita, sorry about the disappointment for Angelique and missing the Spring Fling. Most unfortunate, but an opportunity to plan a very special occasion just for her and her escort! (If she hasn't seen 'Frozen' yet, our grandies highly recommend it!

MizT, did the painter come while you were asleep? Wonderful plan to dress in comfortable soft knit clothing to go back to bed, but be able to get up quickly to answer the door!

Mama, you have been very observant through Facebook postings! A good friend (valedictorian of high school class and former astronaut) died of a hemorrhagic stroke a month ago. Three weeks later, another friend (had been in the same class since elementary school & married to another classmate) died.

In this same stretch of time hubby has had major pain in his neck & shoulder. Now that that is better, he has had an ULTRA sciatica flare, including difficulty walking, getting up, sitting down, etc. He started with the chiropractor a couple of weeks ago, and has had appointment 3 times this week. Plus our 18.5 year old cat is on daily thyroid medication and weekly IV fluids. Today she is having frequent need to urinate, but very little each time. In addition to hubby having final PT for his neck & chiropractor tomorrow, it looks like a trip to the vet is in order. None of this is overpowering, but the cumulative effect is wearing us down. It's probably why I feel so totally exhausted. (So sorry for my whine/whinge!)

Positive thoughts, healing vibes, prayers, {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, and to all of you, especially if I neglected to mention you by name. Good Night!

Checking in without reading everything. A bit of a whine, so read at your own risk. Read or skip as you choose, I will not know

Today while out grocery shopping I made a slight misstep, nothing serious, usually would not have even remembered it, but a pain shot from that dimple above right buttock all the way down my leg. Thankfully it was as I was near the end of my last stop, and the only one I had to walk in the store, Aldi's. Got to the frozen food section and bought myself an emergency ice pack, a one-pound bag of frozen peas. After I had paid but before leaving the store, I discretely put the peas between my outer pants and under pants.
Came home, put away only cold food, because I really wanted to see tonight's entertainment that was announced via Rapid-. Had taken a pain med [at scheduled time] and pain had eased some. Enjoyed that tremendously, left early cause Joy came in to visit. To shorten this a bit, I began to have more and more trouble as soon as I got out of my power chair when Joy and I came into apartment. I am so thankful Joy came, she put away the rest of my groceries, helped me prepare my dinner from planned overs, and brought me meds when it was time again, kept me with something liquid to drink.

This is a major hurt, it had eased while in recliner with heat, but as soon as I got up, I could hardly walk. I think I need to see some medical person tomorrow, and I have a feeling tonight is not going to be fun, but I will soldier through.

Who do I call? Pain doc is the only one who can prescribe for pain, even if it is not a narcotic pain medication but something like muscle relaxers or steroids. If it is an emergency someone else treating me must phone pain doc first if possible or something about phone him within 24 hours?? I am so confused, not accustomed to having different docs in charge of different parts of me. Think I might phone pain clinic first, if that is not right, thy can tell me.

Sorry for being so long and self centered, but writing this out helps me think, brain malfunctions with this level of pain. I move slightly and this shooting pain is way up there on the pain scale, ass bad as any I have experienced. Writing is also good distraction from the pain.

Whew, meds are making me sleepy. I hope I can get into bed without disturbing it.

Hugs people and I could really use a few myself now. Catch you later.

JUNE, I am so sorry about your diagnosis of polymyalgia. I hope it is not, but if it is, at least you have a diagnosis and can begin treatment. Hang in there, lady and now more important than before, STOP FRETTING ABOUT YOUR HOUSE. Do you have clean sheets on the beds, soap and clean towels in the bathroom? Might be nice to have bathroom tissue, too. Just the basics, please. Remember it will be better than the camping in a tent one of our ladies will be having. As Mama said, they are coming to visit YOU, not inspect your house. Try to limit your activity, work a bit, rest a bit. You might need to lower your standards, or obtain help to keep things up. I know it i s hard, but something you must learn if this is the diagnosis, says she who is looking at things needing done here, and knowing it is not possible at the moment. Very hard to make some of these changes.

Lots to talk to your doc about. I found some very good information on the Mayo Clinic website, huge teaching hospital here, that might be of interest to you.

Very gentle hugs! thinking of you as you come to grips with this, whatever it turns out to be.

Mamacita, I was so sorry to hear about Angeliques disappointment . Like others I think events like this should be organised in a way that allows room for everyone. She sounds like a lovely littlle girl if she is happy to have an alternate plan.

Heidi, you might have messed up with the winterisation but made up for it with your forward planning service.

Broni, how tired are K and J? They haven't stopped yet! Maybe wet weather in North Queensland will give them some rest time, though it would be sad if they miss the reef!

Brenda, we're kind of the same with our car insurance. Third party personal injury is our compulsory part. On top of that On older cars most people just get what we call bomb insurance, only covers the other car or property. That is about $120 a year. Comprehensive is generally over 5or 6 hundred depending on the value of your car and where you live etc.

The bills for rego come very early giving you plenty of time to organise any necessary repairs etc, and plenty of time to forget.

My happy news is that Dana is away so I had a whole day where I knew nobody was going to call me to ask me a favour! I even sat in a coffee shop with my ereader for a while.

Suzy, I saw there are other drugs being tried now for those who should not take steroids. It is on the mayo clinic site, so steroids are not the only thing available. also, very low dose steroids given, and that is a help.

Shoot cannot find my history on here now, but when I find it again will post a link.

Julie, I do hope things slow down for you soon. Everything Suzy said from me also.

Heidi, sorry you had winter problems with your RV. Dealership should have told you about that, I think. glad you had a thorough inspection/repair fore taking it on trips. You said spring is there to stay? We have two more nights of 32 or 34 temps forecast, first of week. I must monitor carefully and protect or move plants.

Think I made a new friend today. Name Marla, we hit it off first thing. have plans to go to buy plants at the huge farmers market after the 32 degree weather, her idea, and to a famous restaurant nearby. she will drive even how nice! Heidi, I think you would like her a lot. Kind of fits into our way of thinking about a lot of things.

Ahhh, what I have been waiting on, I can repeat my pain meds now, and get me into bed.
