OK! I know I shouldn't still be here but I have just caught up with the posts and feel I should give a brief explanation about Mum. I spoke to my father on Tuesday to tell him that we were coming over to Adelaide on the weekend for a family reunion on my hubby's side. He told me then that Mum, who is 82 and has a heart condition, wasn't too bright (which is understatement for not very good!). The next morning they were going to the doctor's and a sister rang to say that the news wasn't great. Mum's BP was very high and she was retaining fluid and feeling very poorly, so they are all indicators of possible bad outcome. So, what was to be a happy family weekend looked like it might turn out to be a sad preparation weekend!

Anyway, to make a short story long (!), the doc increased Mum's fluid meds and she has seemed to come good. We got off the plane on Friday and went straight around to my folks to see her and I am very pleased to say Mum was looking absolutely chipper and my father's spirits had risen no end. I got straight onto the mobile and messaged all my sisters that we could 'stand down, emergency averted'! Mum even suggested we go out to lunch the next day, and she ate very well! This from a person who not days before, had no energy and was not eating. I think Mum will be with us for a little while yet.

And with that, I will bid you all adieu till tomorrow.
This weekend was supposed to be shopping weekend but family matters overshadowed it. Hubby and I will organise a menu tomorrow and we will shop then.
BTW Hubby has the rest of the week off too...I love his boss lol. (He works for himself!)
May I take this opportunity to say how much I love my hubby and appreciate his support through these dramas.

Busy morning today, I was out finishing up the grass cutting, in that little window of opportunity I have, after the dew is dried and before it is too hot or the UV index is too high. I try to go only when UV is below 3, and will do that without long sleeves, but today it was 4, so long sleeves and a hat and get in and out fast. I zoomed along and finished in 20 min, but I had done half yesterday evening, so, we are good to go for another week.

Showers for me, then off to the shops for things I cannot do without till I can make the BIG shoping trip to reprovision on thursday. Pay a few bills today and pick up a few items and go to bank should do it today.

I think I am almost back to normal, at least my slep was last night for first time, and my brain is functioning again, with just a few twinges from the tummy. I am soo much better.

Best get going fore it gets any hotter, heat index today up to 106, we are not in the dog days of summer, the ones I have been dreading.

to all...hope I'm not butting in on anything. Stopped by (first time here) to read about Gail's mum. So glad all is better and the scare is over.
Tricia - glad you got some sleep last night and hope it cools down in Bama soon - hot and humid, no?
I'm going to be out in the yard today, also...having a battle with moles and pocket gophers over my landscaping...but I think we are only going to be up in the 80's here today.
Thanks for letting me drop in on this page!

Gail I'm pleased to hear your mum's much improved but sorry that your plans had to be spoiled, these are things we have to put up with when we have ailing mothers.
I remember when my grandmother was alive, my aunt and uncle had to abandon a number of holidays on the continent when grandma became seriously ill. She went on to live for many more years. I think the only person who was away from home when she died was my eldest daughter who was on a school trip to France.

After a timed out page I finally got back in here and everything is in place. It is probably the weather we are experiencing here in the UK... it is HOT and has been for days now. My betting is that it will end on August 9th, the day we go away on holiday to Norman's Bay in the caravan.

Rolanda, I'm sure I could persuade Elaine to come out to do your sucky work, unfortuanely she is skint. Her teaching job doesn't start until September so she is having to use her meagre savings for everyday essentials, like her car and telephone Fortunately she has a 'lovely' set of parents who will feed her and let her live at home free of charge.

Brenda - thanks so much for the warm welcome...I had something screwy happen a few minutes ago here. I went to my homepage and all 3 pages of my precious postings, welcomes and birthday wishes from everyone were all GONE! I was horrified. I wrote to Gath to see if he could help me and by the time I sent that message off to him, it was all back again. Thought I was losing it for sure!!!
Brenda - is Elaine your daughter? My step daughter, Ali, is starting her 3rd year as an 8th grade science teacher at Mill Valley (CA) middle school. She loves her work!

Hey SA5'ers.....Hope things are settled for a short while anyway....Everyone is either feeling well or recovering, still avoiding 'stuff' or looking for someone else to do it for us, cooking all kinds of good things, and talking to ones self a lot...yep....just another day on site...and boy am I glad to be a part of it! Think its time I go rattle some pots and pans too. See you later....hey Bronti...When will the weather permit another cruise...or has the boat been already stored away? Another cruise seems like a winner......Peace All!

HI VICI, so glad you could drop in, and no you are not interupting a thing, just a lot of chatter going on, and a bit of teasing and being happy and all kinds of stuff! Yes, it is hot and humid, but today turned nicer than thought. the humidity droped below 50% and that really helped! I know, for the Aussies, that is humid, but believe me it is better than the 90+% that is common this time of year. It is all relative, you know.

Where in CA are you located? North, south? My daughter is in South Orange County, and I have a cyber pen pal up in Eureka, so I hear a lot about California. Would love to know more about your little corner of the world if you care to share.

Gail, thanks for the report about your Mom, we were all concerned and so happy when you got the "stand down' b=message back to us here on SA5.

Ahhh, yes, Gail, it is good to have hubby 's supoort when things get touchy with our parents. I understand, sweetie, went through a few of those, with my mom, one where Mom was litterly hours from death, but we got the help she needed, and after they got her back for us, she had many many more independant years before she started the gradual decline. I am soo happy this seems the case with your Mom, and wish for her many more years of feeling chipper and lunches out! Modern medicine is wonderful, when it works correctly.

Brenda, Elaine is a very lucky person! The 'essentials' might change if she didn't have someone to feed her, though looking at some of my kids' friends, I'm not sure of that.

The dogs have chased the bower birds away from their food so the poor birds hae had to resort to picking around in the grass for their snacks. The pee wee on the other hand is strutting around in front of them quite bravely.
