Hi Kate, look I have a picture now. (Av???)Robert from work helped me get it. It was very hard to get the picture down to 50x50. As I was at work I only had a few photos and this one is from Colleen. (I hope she doesn't mind!) Anyway it is good because I am sooooooo far away from the ocean it will be a little reminder.

Hi Kate, I think I have pieced it together now - Maureen/Dubbo is your sister and she is visiting Wollongng this weekend. I do hope the predicted bad weather has cleared by then. It looks like the people on the south coast are in for a bad night tonight - although the weather bureau has been known to be wrong before!
They, being human beings, prefer to forecast for the worst possible conditions then no one can accuse them of not giving sufficient warning. If they don't warn of bad weather everyone is upset because they weren't warned. On the other hand, if they do warn of bad weather and it doesn't eventuate then everyone is happy. It is a thankless task.
The last bit of 'Philosophy according to Ian' - any fool can make a forecast, that's the easy bit - the tricky bit is getting it right.

Hi Kate, did you cop any of the nasty weather ?A oldtime told me ' Any fool can take a coat on a rainy day, it's a wise man that takes it on a fine day.' Hope you are O.K. Cheers.

Hi Kate, I see that I was right - they were wrong! The weather forecasts are after all, just guesses. Admittedly they are educated guesses and are supported by a super-computer in Melbourne, but they are still guesses.
I agree with you that it must be a thankless task because it is a fairly public function they perform and their mistakes are usually spectacular - they's why I was never a weatherman! But I have used their services a lot and their aviation forecasts are usually good enough for aircraft to bumble their way around the world without getting into too much trouble.
As for which sister is the pretty one - I am staying right out of that discussion. You both have lovely smiles and that's a really good starting point.

It's the little picture with the message you send,ie mines a bit of hydrangea, yours is that pretty bird, Maureen's is a Tassie beach etc. It from Hindu mythology. An Avatar was a deity descende to earth. So an incarnation or manifestation. So those little pictures are representations of ourselves, I guess is the best way to explain it!

Hi Kate, I must congratulate Maureen when I get a moment. I hope your weekend goes off without a hitch. We lived in Port Moresby for two years and during the Wet Season the one thing you could guarantee was every time we held a dinner party the power would go off at the critical moment of cooking the dinner. But we improvised and the parties were always great fun.
Anne and I are going to have lunch on the Harbour tomorrow. I do hope the weather will be kind. Enjoy your weekend.

Hi Kate, thanks for the reply, I caught the cold from hell last week so I didn't even touch a computer so apologies for the late reply.
I don't think most of the residents really mind the RAAF base and the planes, we're really proud of the work that they do which I think helps deal with the noise. Talk to you soon.

Hello Kate! Yes, do look at the St. Kilda website - the photos are stunning. It is such a strange and wonderful island. One knows WHY the people left - I would have done the same - but at the same time it feels sad that they did! May it long continue as a retreat place.

Hi Kate! I didn't see you had set up your page too - so I didn't reply to your earlier post on this page. Welcome too! Of course there are heaps of Kates in Sydney ... that's why I started to put my suburb (though not origionally, I used to be Kate of Sydney too at first). I think putting my street as well is a bit too much info for a public site. I only suggested you put your suburb as well so people don't mix us up! That way nobody is confused!

Hi Kate, thanks ever so much, spicy pumpkin soup is one of my favourites. It sounds like your weekend was fun. As you can see from my photos the weather for our harbour cruise turned out to be magnificent.
I have a bit of running around to do this afternoon. I'll be in touch.

Glad you like it, Ian! We had some last night after I cooked up the rest of the pumpkin. I threw some prawns in too. I've got 2 more batches of the basic puree in the freezer for another time!

Oh Kate, please do not feel guilty. At least your sister is nearby if they need any help. I have had to help my Dad out because he has not been well and my Mum died last October. She had Alzheimer's for some time and so Dad was looking after her. He would not let her go into care. She was only 71 when she died... way too young. I am sure your parents know that you would be there if they needed you. Take care and please do not feel guilty.

Hello Kate - just read your comment on the kid's page. Bentley is a suburb of Perth and Albany Highway runs from Albany right through to Perth as far as the Swan River, I think it stops, and over the river is the main city of Perth. Albany Highway is just over 400kms long.

Hi Kate. If you're wondering why you got so many strange reactions to your Centrelink joke, it was because I posted that joke a few days earlier, but the details were a bit different. The vocabulary used by the mother and the kids' names apparently were all black American (of which I was totally unaware) and Ian/Boston reported it to Gath as racist. There was a huge discussion on the site, but in the end Ian apologised to me as he realised that, being Australian, I was totally unaware of that side of things.

Hi Kate, thanks for popping in to my page and your kind words. I am just loving this new photo gallery thingy.
Yes it is a great place to live, the reason we moved here was to get our kids out of the burbs. We moved to Melb 10 years ago from S.A. where we had lived in the hills. So to move back to the burbs was definitely a down-grade in our eyes. My kids were brought up bush babes so we had to get them as close to their roots as possible, considering we were in another state!

Kate, long-winded is only important when you run out of breath.
Many thanks for your response, I'm really not sure where I saw the comment and I guess it is becoming less important as time goes on. I'll try Kate/Sydney (Lane Cove) and if it is not her, I'll quit.
I'm glad you enjoy my photos. But is there something wrong with yours? All I can get is rectangles with question marks in them. Perhaps it is because I'm using an iMac?
