Good morning. We had visitors (My sister and husband) here for dinner. I think I am feeling the effects of too much good food.

Good Maen, good people. It's chilly but sunny in SW Michigan, USA. Still have 2/3 of the last load of firewood to stack and we've already been burning it. Happily we have still have a little time before the sleet and snow arrives.

Jerry - thanks for mentioning Timberline Lodge. It set me on an internet exploration of the scenic side of Portland area.

It makes me wonder if we could arrive a couple days early, stay in a cheap hotel and rent a car and drive around.

He has to stay in downtown Portland for the main portion of his trip. The reservation is already made. So we weren't planning to be able to get around except for public transportation and strolling.

I once saw a photo comparison of champions that showed how this breed has become almost a charachature of itself over the past 100 years as breeders have selected for very defined breed characterists. But I can't remember the name of the breed!

As well as Veteran's Day, today was my father's birthday. He was a veteran and served in WWII in Germany. He died in 1993. (He would have been 100 today.) Mom is still living and will be 101 next Thursday!)

Just spent a couple of days in Paris with my sister. It was a birthday gift to me. She lives in London so Paris is halfway house. We had a great time despite the rain. I just need to let my feet recover

I was saddened to hear of Leonard Cohen's passing. His music and poetry affected me greatly in my teens, and I followed his career through his whole life. A true Canadian icon, whose words and usually dark lyrics spoke to the reality of life and love. RIP Leonard. You'll be missed.

Plum - we stayed out by the airport in Portland and rented a car - my son sold his car ! Bus, street car or train - and there is a train to the falls on weekends but haven't used it

CG, I wish I could click on 'like' re your comments on Leonard Cohen. I agree with all the sentiments you expressed.

Grandson #2 turns 21 December 31. He's done me proud: First, he voted the same as I did in the recent election, and second, he enters the USAF next month.

If you're wondering, we did not vote for either of the two major candidates.
