Here's a joke for anyone suffering from the blahs today. Warning: it is not a LOL joke. Sorry!

Three men were discussing coincidences at a bar. The first man said, " My wife was reading "A Tale of Two Cities," and she gave birth to twins."
"That’s funny," the second man remarked. "My wife was reading "The Three Musketeers," and she gave birth to triplets."
The third man shouted, "Good God, I have to rush home!"
When asked what the problem was, he explained, " When I left the house, my wife was reading "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves!"

And now, for something completely different - an opportunity to choose your favorite quotation from the following:

A great preservative against angry and mutinous thoughts, and all impatience and quarreling, is to have some great business and interest in your mind, which, like a sponge shall suck up your attention and keep you from brooding over what displeases you.
(Joseph Rickaby)

People without an internalized symbolic system can all too easily become captives of the media.
(Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience, 1990)

When we seek for connection, we restore the world to wholeness. Our seemingly separate lives become meaningful as we discover how truly necessary we are to each other.
(Margaret Wheatley)

Interestingly, from an identity standpoint, what does it mean to have a disability? Pamela Anderson has more prosthetics in her body than I do and nobody calls her disabled.

On my way to bed, but stopped to see what I had missed...and it was a lot...but thanks to Julie's fine work, I am on target...Julie, I choose the 3rd quote, because I really do believe people need people and loved the way it was stated by Ms Wheatley. BTW...thanks for letting me know that you enjoy my attempts at including the phases I find here to express myself. I was a Teacher of Special Needs Children and had to find many different ways of reaching them when we tackled our Lit or Grammar lessons, but I am a big reader also...so some of it has stuck with me over the years. I am always amazed when someone compliments my writing because I think others often are able to say what I want in a more concise manner...I think I'm like an old wind bag at times..lol, but I do like to hear that others find something I've said is meaningful...it does make me feel good...so .. .

Finished working at Shiplifts today, the last week has been more fun, enough work to keep me busy.
Have another couple of days sanding to do on the boat then she should be ready to be prettied up and back on the water. Also have a days work at the Boat Chandlery, any money helps!
Might even have me time after that to do another cruise with my SA friends, what do you think?

Broni, I'm working tomorrow, and possibly all week. There is a weird thing with teaching that I never knew and don't really understand yet. If a teacher takes sick leave, they have in-house resources to cover them. (?) If they take long service leave then they can call in a casual. I want to know why they don't use the in-house resources all of the time, and what they do if someone is sick for an extended period of time...And I get called in when people are sick all of the time... very confusing...

By the way, the reason I don't know for sure how long I will be working... the guy has gone to Thailand for surgery and doesn't appear to have submitted any forms before he left. They are going to try to reach him tomorrow to see what kind of leave he is taking.

Good morning all. Coffee is brewing and should be ready in a moment.
Mama, I also like the third quote.
Suzy, enjoy the work. Hope you get more than just the one day. Hope all goes well with Alie becoming a vegetarian and good for you to support her.

Morning all. It was a wild night weather-wise here. Heavy rain, high winds (some areas having gusts up to 140 km/hour), severe thunder storms. Ottawa's annual Bluesfest had a stage collapse due to high winds. One man has life-threatening injuries and I haven't heard a tally of the number of others injured. One woman was hit by lightning. Many still without power. Feels-like temperatures in the 40'sC. It's still raining and the temp is supposed to be cooler today, but I find it extremely muggy right now. It's not even 7:30 AM and already I am a wet rag.

Well, all the symptoms except for the fatigue appear to be gone. Yeah. I can actually walk without feeling like I'm lugging cement blocks on my legs. Thank you all so much for the thoughts. I have to say that I am a bit scared, but your comments and suggestions and thoughts are a comfort to me. HUGS to all.

I should learn to refresh.

Julie, I like the third quote as well.

Mama, I personally find great comfort in your words. Quite often when I am reading your comments I think to myself: That's exactly how I feel or what I think, but I could never have worded it that way. Thank you so much!

Suzy, the school has to pay for sick leave for the first so many days, if a long term illness the department then starts paying. That being so the school, if short on funds probably tries to cover the classes if only one teacher is away. my friend could tell you all about it. Believe it or not she has one day left, then the school could apply for 22 days special sick leave through the department (which has been granted) and then she will start taking some of her long service leave. (all at three days a week)

everybody.
Still depressed over losing Coffee and Hollie, so I'm doing something that will cheer me up and make IH furious. I'm talking to Challenger's breeder about getting a Gypsy Vanner filly. She has one yearling for sale now, but I'm more interested in a foal that's due to be born in September. I'll be buying that one if it's a filly. If not, I'll go for the yearling.

I have an electrician/plumber in the house. D's hot water tank is not working. They are blowing out the bottom of it (with a really loud air compressor about 3 feet from me) so they can put a new element in - whole tank might need to be replaced because of its age. Their hot water tank is in our basement because they don't have a basement. All the cats have scattered ....

Suzy, our house is also a place of mixed furniture - some old, some antique, some newish, some given to us. The one thing people say when they come to our place is that they feel comfortable. You don't need to take your shoes off, you can put your feet on the coffee table, you can inhale cat hair .....

Heidi, you planning on breeding the Gypsy Vanners?

Theresa, glad you survived the storm and that you still have power. It is terrible about the life lost and the injury from the storm. Glad the meds are settling in already, that was fast!

Suzy, hope you get as much work s you want. Is this at Allie's school?

Broni, glad you can see the end of the boat work. Hope you can find more days of work, too.

Tami, still enjoying the Earth's Children series? I am finding book 7 not as good as the first. she spends way too much time retelling things that happened in earlier books. One time to clarify for people who are reading books out of sequence, I can understand that. Might even forgive twice, but over that any you have lost my interest. And just how many painted caves can you visit and still be interested? Even Ayla grew tired of them hehehe.

I am about half way of the book 780 page book. I am still enjoying it, cause the book sucks you in, you are there, transported back in time. The size of the book slows me down, I have to get away from it, cause my hand needs a rest from holding it.

Hi All...Thanks for making me feel so good about the things that I write...glad you find me able to say what you feel....Everyone needs validation and you ladies are so good at giving that!Hope I can continue to write things in an interesting way because all that I say is heart felt!
Broni...I DID NOT BREAK THE SITE...lol! Perhaps all of my wind bagging blew it away for a short period of time?
Seems that many of us liked Julie's 3rd quote since we know the value of our sisterhood and the comfort it affords us...Great.

Heidi...hope you are able to get the filly...btw...how's Ouima? Is she still there? You always find an interestingly expensive way to ward off your blahs...good for you! Continue to enjoy these things..you've earned them! IH may learn to keep his mouth shut about how you spend YOUR money one day...hope springs eternal as they say. LOL.
Glad to hear your comments re: The Clan book MizT, but don't say too much because I haven't started reading mine yet...good to know that it still holds your interest in spite of the shortcomings you felt.... I am reading a great book you might be interested in,, Caleb's Crossing: A Novel, by Geraldine Brooks...I love the way she uses the language...she REALLY turns a phrase. Check it out when you go to the library, its a fairly new book..still on the N.Y Times Book List...Its rich in history and detail and is about an Indian boy being converted to Christianity and his experiences during the process of this and becoming educated into the American way of life, his friendship with the young English daughter of the minister who is training him, the struggle to
detach from his cultural teachings, etc...It was inspired by the real life story of a member of an Indian tribe located in Massachusetts, born circa 1646, and became the first Native American to graduate from Harvard College. She does a great job in setting the atmosphere surrounding the time period. If it interest you or any others, I'd love to hear any comments...
OKAY...I have to check easy and the other site then go read some more...see you all when I see you. Peace.

Hi everyone.
Late for me today..I was here earlier but thought better of letting you know the real time.LOL

Rolanda, hope your son had a really enjoyable 1st day of work and also that you are not missing him too much.

Mama..glad you are feeling less back pain. You will be much more careful from now on I am sure.

Suzy..Do you have to travel far for work? I found casual work very hard to organize myself around.Like you, most of the furniture doesn't match.I have some of Mum's,Nans, new, donated and 2nd hand furniture. Some have sentimental value and I wouldn't part with anyway.

Heidi...you deserve a new horse. It might cheer you up after losing Hollie & Coffee.

June..lots of love to you and your family.

Theresa..So glad you don't feel like you have lead boots on anymore.

Julie..as always I enjoy your updates.Fancy you having an early night..lol No.3 has my vote also.

Evening all.
Theresa, glad to hear the man with injuries is going to be ok. That must have been some storm.
Heidi, enjoy the new filly when you get her. I really think you enjoy doing things to annoy IH. If you need me to help, let me know. My husband is good at doing voices and would be glad to call for you.
Suzy, hope the work goes well.

Good morning all!
to Stephen. I'm glad he had a good first day.
Heidi, I'm sorry to hear about Hollie and Coffee. Losing 2 dogs in a week would be absolutely heart breaking. Best of luck with the new horse when you get it.
Theresa, I'm glad they found your heart problems early and that they are fixable. Heart surgery has come a long way. My father died from heart problems 24 years ago but today they would have been able to operate and repair the blockages.
Hugs to all in need (or even if you'd just like one)

Hubby had his visit with the specialist on Friday. He will be having more surgery when workers comp approves it. At the moment he is "unfit for any work" until 26th August - he's one very happy camper!
We have a new great nephew (no name yet) born on Sunday morning. Baby and mother are well and father and grandparents and great-grandmother are ecstatic. Big sister Zoe is only 18 months old so they will be very busy people.

The boys went away for the weekend just leaving hubby, me and the dog at home. You know, I could get used to that. It was so pleasant just deciding what to feed 2 of us.
We picked up our new oven on Friday. Now we just have to wait for Justin the electrician to come and install it and the cabinetmaker to replace the front of the cupboards so it looks built in.
I miss my oven so much! I keep thinking that I'll make something for dinner only to realise that I can't.

Had a blah day yesterday, having a sad day today - it is 1 year since Aunty Vi passed away - can't believe it's been that long. I still miss her. And her anniversay is a reminder that it's nearly a year (4th August) since Col's Mum died. RIP Jean and Vi - miss you both.
