MizT.... with a riding mower, the slower you go, the better job you do. Speed isn't everything. Style is more important.

I stopped moving hay (one roll at a time with the borrowed tractor) because the sky turned black and I heard thunder.

Heidi, I still was going relatively slow, only in second gear. I had started in first gear, at slow throttle, was not sure how I could control the machine with this hand. I just found I could turn, control it a bit better a tad faster. It has 5 or 6 gears, so really still going baby speed hehehe.

Suzy, yes, I have a wonderful neighbor. Besides mowing, she sends food over to us when she cooks for a crowd. She has told me of another food bank at a church much closer, I tried phoning them Friday afternoon, will try again on Monday in the morning. Many church offices are manned only half a day, mornings.

My sweet hubby turned the hot water back on long enough for me to get a shower. Not as much leaks when water is on in the house and I had a wonderful shower. Not that I really needed it, if you stayed downwind of me hehehe. Mowing in the hot sun calls for a shower you know.

Heidi, I hope the rain misses you, goes right around. It is a good thing to come in from the field when thunder is about, cause you were probably the tallest thing in the area, sitting on the tractor.

Suzy.... I am aghast. Stunning is mandatory at all USDA approved slaughter plants. Any beef sold for public consumption has been treated humanely. IH's plant, tho' for sheep and goats only, HAS to stun first, so the animals don't suffer. If they didn't stun, they would be shut down. Instantly.

Heidi - stunning is mandatory at approved slaughteryards and abattoirs here too - as usual the media is going for sensationalism. Yes, if cattle are exported we need assurances that stunning will be a part of the slaughter process in their destination country. But, having worked in the meat industry for 20 years, I can assure you it IS mandatory here in Australia.

Hi ALL,
I've had a wonderfully relaxing Sunday...No church or meetings that I was suppose to take part in...my
bottom just would not allow for the length of time sitting in a car, nor were the temps beckoning me to move from my comfortably A/C'd home...lol.
Expecting visits from several cousins from New York tomorrow, so will fix some vitals and enjoy the company....I can handle that.
Hugs, prayers and the very best good news vibes are traveling along with wishes that everyone have joy and health for themselves and their loved ones....
Peace!

Hi all, I'm just back from the weekend.

Cyn, I'm terribly sorry to hear about your mum.
Congratulations to Theresa and hubby on their anniversary.
Gail, what a tragedy for the young men and their families. In a small community, those accidents must really hit hard.

OK I'm caught up with all the news now.
Good luck with your teaching Suzy!

I've spent the weekend cleaning the house and this morning #1 son and I went to the Gold Coast to get the girl and her family. 5 people and 4 sets of luggage were just not going to fit. I have the girls luggage and I'm back at work now.
#1, the girl and her family are having a tour of the coast (currently looking at Ugg boots in Surfers) and then they are going to try to see some of the native animals in the Brisbane Forest Park.
Graduation is tomorrow and the girl's mother, sister and grandfather have come to celebrate. It's their first trip outside of Japan so I imagine there is a fair bit of culture shock going on.

Hubby's shoulder op is sheduled for 18th August. At least he now has a date. I've left him at home repairing our toilet which has been steadily leaking over quite some time. We only discovered that when we were cleaning mould off the downstairs bathroom ceiling and I suggested that it was under our toilet. Hubby is not happy as he flooded our bathroom twice during the repairs and they leaked through the ceiling and downstairs had to be re-cleaned. I really should stop swearing. Sorry ladies!

Just dropping by for a brief visit! Greetings, my friends!

Heidi, what a great idea to send the painting of the sheep for the funeral service! There are times that I almost think IH is human and/or normal.

MizT, your flowers sound wonderful! I'm sorry to hear that all of your hot water drained away, but so pleased that Al was able to provide enough for a hot shower! Good for you for mowing the back lawn! What a wonderful neighbor you have!

June, congrats on the bowl victory! Thinking positive thoughts for the next meet. Also sending prayers and {{{{HUGS}}}} for your friend and all related to her!

Tami, I'm so glad Dylan is feeling better! Enjoy your 3 weeks off!

Suzy, 2 more weeks may seem to stretch forward like an ominous nightmare, but will probably go by more quickly than you anticipate! I hope the darlings warm up to you a bit, and I hope you're able to find a way to break through to the little darlings, if only even a few!

Judy and Cyn, I hope you enjoy the HP movie!

Heidi, I hope the rain stays away from you until you can get the hay under cover!

WooHoo for your relaxing Sunday, Mamacita! Enjoy your visitors tomorrow!

Bean, I hope your PC problems get worked out - and quickly!

Vicki, I hope #1 S's girl's family enjoy their tour and their stay in Oz! Congratulations on the graduation to her! Hooray for hubby getting a date set for his surgery! Too bad the bathroom repairs couldn't have gone more easily!

Exhaustion has set in. Hubby has annual eye exam tomorrow, including dilation of his eyes, so I have to drive him home. I think being able to stay awake for that would be a good thing.

Prayers, {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, positive thoughts and for all who can use them! Good Night!

Hi all - Mum was about the same today but had some moments of recognition which was good because Karin was there. She (Karin) kept getting upset and having to walk away. I hope she doesn't linger, I want to get the chance to tell her it's ok to let go - maybe tomorrow when I go alone to feed her lunch.
June - thinking of you as usual, hope you managed to catch up on some sleep.
Hugs to June and family and all who need them.

Evening all,
Cyn, thoughts and hugs...

June, congrats on your win, more thoughts and hugs...

Julie, how is your friend's husband going? Even more thoughts and hugs...

Thinking about the things you are all going through right now puts my day into perspective. I had a support teacher in my class today - the same class that drove me to tears on Friday - he just stood there shell shocked, the expression on his face was priceless!

Tonight I have to do unit plans for 2 years, tomorrow night another 2. I would normally spend a week on a unit plan. Mr H is not my favourite person in the world at the moment...

Heidi, all the kafuffle over stunning is a result of some undercover video of animals treated cruelly in Indonesia - Australian animals, live exports. Some abattoirs there have exemption from stunning for religious reasons, even though the religious chiefs say it is perfectly acceptable.

Just back from the hospital. She had a bad night last night and we called in this morning. When we went tonight she was in the cancer ward, off the machines except the oxygen, and was like her old self. She will be having the chemo tomorrow that she missed last week. It will not cure but, hopefully, will slow it down or hold it. From a teary mess this morning I now feel so much more at peace. Just hoping Laura can have her birthday celebrations on 13th Aug.
I did not sleep well last night so might go soon and see if I can sleep well tonight.

Morning all. Sorry I am late but I did bring a pot of coffee if anyone wants a cup.
I have read the posts but don't seem to remember much. I did notice that Bean posted. Hope the pooter problems get fixed quickly.

Hubby is home today. Car is in the shop, hopefully won't be too expensive. I don't want Dylan to run around too much today. We are trying to decide what to do to get out for a while later. Dylan is tired of being inside all the time.

June, glad to hear you and friend are better before day's end. any way you could move Laura's birthday celebration forward so all could enjoy it more? I do not know of many youngsters who would decline having their birthday early, especially if another small celebration was offered for the 13th. Heck, not many BIG girls would balk at having 2 parties. Just a thought.

Hugs and prayers for you and your friend's family and friends. Do let us know how things are going, we care.

TAMI, hope you think up something really fun and creative for the boys today. Enjoy your day whatever you do.

It took forever last night for my bedtime meds to "kick in" so I was awake till the wee hours. But once I went to sleep I spept really well, woke feeling refreshed and rested.

Our friend E came up yesterday on his riding mower, just a couple hours after I finished the back mowing. Gave me the evil look for mowing it myself, said I hurt his feelings, mowing that back was his job hehehe. I told him I left the front for him, he said NOPE, he wanted to do the back yard hehehe. I sent him to mow around the stack of lumber still in the yard, cause he could get around it closer with his zero turn mower than I could with mine. With great showmanship, he trimmed that and took his bow. He can be soi funny sometimes. then a cloud came up, and he left for home, to get his mower under cover fore it rained. He would leave his wife and dog out in the rain fore that mower or his HOG! No not the pig kind, the huge motorcycle kind. He is looking better now that he is working nights, saying he is having fun, working on big trucks, repairing things others at the shop cannot

Off to forage some breakfast, make some feedings and cocoa for hubby. I need to cook today also, all out of planed overs in fridge.

Hugs to each of you, with extras.

Yeah, Gil acted almost human after Roger's funeral. He was shaken up to have lost a friend, and so many people thanked him for bringing the sheep print. He's not normally hugged and thanked for being thoughtful. He was actually grateful to me for helping him through the day.

The plumbing soap opera continues. The plumber had to replace a lot of the water pipes in the house, and several faucets. As he was cleaning up on Friday and testing stuff, he noticed that there was a leak from the floor of IH's shower stall. He had to come back today anyway, so he postponed the diagnosis until after a relaxing weekend. Well, he and I looked carefully, and I spotted a crack in the floor of the fiberglass shower stall liner. He HOPES he can patch it, but he says that realistically, he doesn't think it'll work. That liner was built in when the house was built, and us too big to fit through any doorways, so if patching doesn't work, we have a plumbing disaster of near-biblical proportions. This one would have to be cut up to remove it, and it's bolted on in places that we cannot see. He believes it'll take at least 3 days just to remove the old one. And a replacement cannot be brought in in one piece. I hope it doesn't come to this, but my plumber thinks we'll have to replace it. I, on the other hand, plan on trying everything possible to patch the crack.

Heidi, would you like me to ask Al for suggestions on patching a fiberglass shower? He has patched some before I think, when he was working for a lady with rental properties. I do hope it is fixable, and you do not have to spend 3 days taking it apart.

Our handyman came, diagnosed the problem, said "that is the only piece of the old black pipe we did not replace" when we supposedly had all the old pipe removed from under the house. It ws split along the top, spraying water up onto rafters. I have not turned the water on after letting it repairs dry, Al is asleep, would prefer him to be upright when we do in case of problems.

The last hardware store in town has closed, had to go further, and they did not have everything he needed. I am not sure what he needed he could not get, but somehow he declares it repaired. He was headed to fix another lady's light switch, elderly widow, then home to try to sleep before the night shift at his factory job. He is always working unless his back is acting up, or he has a migraine. Not sure he would know what to do just for fun.

Didn't do much today. Took the boys out to lunch. Still didn't want Dylan running around too much. Don't want him to get sick again. Car is fixed and was not too bad. Several belts had broken, or were about to break. Saved us a lot of future trouble.

Morning all,
Not enough time between going to bed and getting up again... Now a song is running through my head 'I will survive'.

MizT, hope your plumbing works when you turn it on.

Heidi, hope yours can be repaired. The job you describe if it can't be is monstrous!

June, I hope you slept well. Hugs and thoughts for a better day.

Hello everyone!
Not much happening here, as usual ...
Sending more hugs, June. Thinking of you a lot.
Tami, (I've probably said this before!), oldest daughter read the first of those books at 13 or 14 - no problem - but after reading No 2 I decided she was WAY too young for it! Of course she sneaked it out anyway, read about half then gave it back to me saying "Yuck!" - yes, Mum DOES know best! :D
Oh, went to see the last Harry Potter on the weekend - enjoyed it very much, though for some reason I was shaking violently most of the time! Don't know if it was the movie or something wrong, but Rob thought it was funny! I've done my back again, which doesn't help ... oh well, c'est la vie!

HRIDI, Al said for repair of a fiberglass tub, you need a fiber glass repair kit. If not sold at a p;plumbing supply house, try automotive store. Person most likely to have skills to do this would be someone who works in auto or boat repair facility, who has repaired fiberglass boats or autos.

Here is a link I found, sort of a how-to.

http://www.westsystem.com/ss/fiberglass-tub-and-shower-repair-2/

Since you say your shower crack is so small it was hard to see, a repair from under might be the best shot for looks when finished.

Hope this helps. As with your shower, I read on one site that most all fiberglass showers were installed before walls were put in, how tacky of them! I thought that only happened in mobile homes or prefabs.

SUZY, you did not wish hard enough for me, when I turned water back on, it poured out under house, it is now worse than it was before! Not sure what is wrong, but would imagine he dry fitted the pipe sections first and then forgot to glue one connection. He is at work tonight, so not sure when he can come fix it. I could do the gluing except house sits very low at that spot, and I am not good at sliding on my belly or back under a house. Need someone small and agile.
