A sympathetic friend can be quite dear as a brother.

Homer

Not to rewrite Homer, but I think we can substitute the word sister, for brother.

Hi Tami.
I will take a hug I think.
No end in sight of this pain in my lower back.
See how much sleep I get tonight.

To all my friends who have been following and supporting us in the saga of the building that council was going to demolish, it looks like we have an 11th hour reprieve, don't know any details yet, but the leaders of the action group are happy, so we're happy :-D

Evening all,
Just realised I haven't posted today, though I have been reading. I kept thinking 'I'll post when my brain is working better', only that didn't happen...

MizT, my Hb levels were really high the last time I donated blood. I never followed up on it though and I'm not allowed to donate anymore. I'm not sure how a mild anti-anxiety drug would help Al sleep. Sometimes I think Doctors don't use those huge brains they're supposed to have. I like the quote as much as Broni does. I definitely need a new way of looking at things right now.

June, I hope you get a dream trip tonight - that is, I hope you dream about what you would rather be doing - that way, even though you don't get to go away, you might feel a little better anyway. {{{{{hugs}}}}}

Broni, I'm sorry to hear that you are still stressed, though I shouldn't be surprised. If I'd used that thing that's supposed to be between my ears I would have realised that the boat and sort-of-SIL problems wouldn't just vanish into thin air... {{{hugs}}} for you too..

Tami, here the teachers don't get any really long breaks, but a bunch of shorter ones. That works better in a way as they don't really have a long enough break to take on a second job like you do! I hope you are a little rested and ready for the year ahead..

Theresa, you are amazing!! You are reaching the danger period where you might be tempted to have 'just one' to help you through a bad day. Don't fall for it!!!

Heidi, the longest break kids get from school here is almost 6 weeks. It goes so quickly!!

Vicki, loved reading that you slept in and were hanging around in your PJs. Way to go!!

Theresa, love the story about the lotto win! I've had a week off work which is hard because on one hand I needed some time to regroup, but in the back of my mind is always 'are they going to call me back again?'....

Viv, my home town beat your home town for the Austar carnival! Well, I'm out of town, but it's the biggest town near me....

Cyn,during the day I often find my mind wandering to you and your Mum and I think the group hug June proposed sounds perfect! From now on, whenever I think of any of you, I will imagine that group hug... thank you June..

Catch you all in a couple of days, hubby, Hannah and I are off to Adelaide for his family's annual get together. While we are there, we are going to see Bill, friends for dinner tomorrow night, and my bro and his wife who just celebrated her 50th last weekend, of course we were unable to attend because we were already committed to going over this weekend. Bye now, be good!

I can see that I'm going to be useless today. I really overdid it yesterday and my back is too fragile right now. I may just turn Whimsey loose in the barn lot to let her graze all day.

CynB, My sisters and I did the same thing, sitting and talking about the past while Mom slept with the morphine. A nurse came in to check on her, and in doing so roused her. Nurse asked her if she enjoyed listening to her girls talking and she whispered a resounding YEEESSS!! So, I really think patients in a morphine fog do hear. Keep talking, and talk to her also, it seems to be comforting to them. The hospice nurse explained that at end of life, patients do not have energy to interact for long, but they can lie quietly and hear, that does not take as much energy.

We also brought in music Mom really loved and played it in the background. that seemed soothing to her.

Suzy, the mild anti-anxiety drug, like many drugs, has more than one action. Just think of Aspirin. It reduces fever, relieves pain, and is an anti inflammatory drug. This drug induces sleep, is anti anxiety and antidepressant. Strange, but good, how that works.

Heidi, I am glad you are listening to your back. I hope a day of rest will help a lot. Hugs to you too, back pain is soo not fun!

GAIL, have a safe trip and enjoy, see you next week. I am glad your school building has survived. We do need some things from our past.

[[[[Viv]]]] Hugs to you also with your back pain. Hummm, do we need to open a home for all our members who are under the weather? We could really have a blast talking while recovering hehehe.

Tami, thanks for the coffee, I needed a cup this morning.

Must get my day started, make up Al's feedings. Catch you all later and hugs to each of you with extras. till later.

Laura's birthday today (6). She is having a party at 'Hungry Jacks' with 10 friends. Then the twins in her class at school are having a party this afternoon. It will be a busy day. Sharon and I bought her a digital camera about 4 weeks ago. I can see it being rather an emotional day.

Good-day, eh.

Suzy, today is not a good day - I really want a ciggie. But I know I can't have just one, so that's out of the question. Besides I ripped up the remaining cigarettes when I quit. The last few days have been pretty good, so I can't complain.

MizT, my sisters and I talked at my mom's bedside also while we were waiting for her to pass. We also played her favourite music. As I sit here now I can remember some of the songs that were playing ...

Gail is going away - wish she would take me with.

Cyn, thinking of you. The morphine is a mixed blessing. Sending a lovely big {{{HUG}}}.
Heidi. take care of that back. I refuse to hold the horses when Belinda is trimming their feet. An awful strain on the back.
Viv, when my back was really bad it took ages of physiotherapy and strengthening exercises before it felt better. Now I try to be careful what jobs I undertake.
Gail, safe travelling and enjoy your time in Adelaide.

Hubby took today off work because we are having a load of topsoil delivered. They just arrived. Then he is taking me for a nice long drive and stop for supper at our favourite chip stand. I haven't had anything like that to eat for a long time - just this once won't hurt. It's a reward. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

It's a humid and sticky day, so off to the shower I go. This will be my first longish drive without smoking. Yikes. BTW, day 12 today, almost 2 weeks.

Good Afternoon All...I really do hope things are good or better where you are!
To all who are suffering from physical or emotional pain...prayers are being sent for relief to find you and healing to be long term. Broni, V.Vi, Vicki, Al, June, Heidi...et al.....please forgive my weakened memory cells...they are trying not to forget anyone, but may fail...but know I do mean EVERYONE!!!!
Meanwhile, groups hugs sound like a good step forward...(((((((HUGS))))))!
Gail ..Safe travel! Good work on the school save.Have a wonderful time away.

June...Wise advice as usual! A bittersweet day for all, but I do hope that the joy of celebrating a fun birthday will not be over shadowed by your loss, but enhanced as another of Sharon's wonderful contributions to the world ...Peace. to you and Happy birthday to Laura.

Heidi, Kids need to be kids, but too much time away from school often makes the return
more difficult to regroup today. I'd love to see a system where there are shorter breaks throughout the year, instead of the current one long summer break here in the states. It would be interesting to see if the kids did indeed fair better then they are currently.
Tami..hoping for a great year ahead for you.I know you will be able to deal with what comes your way, but it would be nice to not always be the tough disciplinarian...but knowing inner-city middle schools as I use to....that's often what one must be. I'm sure that it is more true today than in my day.... or at least no better.
Theresa...enjoy your reward...take a puzzle or Sudoku book with you and engage your brain that way if the drive seems to cause your desire to smoke wells up...more ways to distract the better.

MizT and Theresa...love the idea of the music playing as family gathers for farewells...and reliving the good times with their loved ones..sounds like a wonderfully welcoming way to prepare for transitions that are imminent.
Suzy...Please girl....I'm worried about you holding all of the stress in right now....You sound like you really need a good old-fashioned pity party where you vent, curse, throw stuff, and abuse all that you have been holding on to for too long...then you need to go shopping for your self and buy something far too expensive, but long denied...even if you have to return it when sanity returns..lol....My point is distract yourself enough to move away from the bad thoughts for a period of time...and perhaps lower that blood pressure!((((((HUGS))))).
Love, Peace and the return of Joy.

Good night Tami.

Just got home about 15 minutes ago or so.

I figured out why the cravings are so strong today. I am on the patch and I started the second step today, which is almost half the strength of the first step. I just have to wait for my body to accept the lower strength and I should be fine. The pharmacy had suggested one week for step 1, one week for step 2, and 3 weeks for step 3. I am going to try to stick to that schedule.

I too am off to bed soon. I am taking the girls to their karate lesson tomorrow morning, as well as getting groceries.

Hope everyone soon feels better. GROUP HUG.

June, big birthday wishes to Laura! And lots of hugs for you!

Theresa, bugger what the pharmacist says, stay on the patch for as long as you need/want. The smoking cessation specialist I went to advocated that!! She is an ex smoker too. Used to get smokes from my mother when she was supposed to be quitting...

Heidi, I hope a day of rest helps your back!

Gail, hope you have a wonderful time in SA - pardon the pun!

Mamacita, your kind thoughts made me cry...

No one about for ages. I have been watching(?) TV in bed but only saw the start and end of the show.
I did not have to go to the second party, so Laura did not come to spend the night here. We will give her her birthday presents tomorrow before she goes for the lobster lunch. She was thrilled with all the birthday messages from around the world. I will print them all out so she can keep them. Thank you all.
