Just thought I would drop in with an update from Chloe. It is wonderful that we can have regular communication, the wonders of modern technology. We have even chatted, though she keeps telling me to get Skype...must pull my digit out!

The lates t she and her friend have been staying in a Loki hostel, which looks fabulous according to its promotional youtube, in Cusco, Peru. I woke up to an email this morning saying she was so excited as they were going to go shopping for coloured pencils, textas, paints, books, paper and of course, glitter glue pens, and then going to the local school volunteering to teach English! I never knew she had it in her! We are so very proud. I sent an email back saying exactly that and immediately got one back saying how wonderful it had been!
She said the children ran up to them, full of hugs and love, and she spent the day having a wonderful time with them, but honestly, I think the children taught her more than she was able to teach them, the loving communication between them was amazing. I could tell what an effect it had on her as her spelling became more and more jumbled as her email went on, I think she was tripping over her words in her excitement of the day. She said she wanted to bring them all home with her...

Her next expedition is the 4 day trek to Machu Picchu. It sounds exhausting just reading about it, so I am not sure how she will go. One part of it is an 8 hour trek, her next words were kill me! Apparently at one stage, they can opt to take zip lines, like a network of flying foxes, and that would cut three hours off the trip...I say go the zip lines! As I keep telling her, live in the moment, you will never have this time again.

Yep, take the zip lines - but whatever way she gets there, what an experience - Machu Picchu!! So envious. I've missed my chance, prob too old and unfit for the trek. Always been on my bucket list.

Wow, I didn't realize how long you have known IH! I guess it's reassuring that his bad habits have been with him so long - and that they aren't new bad habits he has picked up! Also, I'm so sorry you had to pick up someone's poop! At least it wasn't a surprise under foot. (At least I'm assuming you knew it was there and it wasn't a surprise!)

Suzanne, you're right that Texas desperately needs rain! Does anyone know a good rain dance that might help them out?

Suzy, I'm sorry there's a teacher strike. Busking seems like a good use of Alie's time since she couldn't be in school!

Sorry to hear Al's cancer has returned.
Hang in there Teresa you are doing so well.

Julie you are doing a great job with your summaries.
Just like our Phantom who has returned.

None of my calls to the neurosurgeons office in Sydney were returned.
Yesterday morning I discovered she has a website and you could make an appt. through there.
So I filled out all my details again etc. and lo and behold yesterday afternoon I had a call from them.
She has looked at my files and has made an appt. for me to see her on the 26th Oct.
She is sending me a referral to get an MRI done here and to bring that with me.
I have kept the appt. for now with the neurosurgeon in Newcastle for Nov.30th as she will ring me if they get a cancellation.
I would prefer to travel to Newcastle as that is only 3 hours from me but whoever I can get into the earliest will be the one I go to.
So at least that is something.

Son is still attending the Traffic Offenders Program one night a week.
That was tonight so he came home about 7.15pm and scoffed down his tea I had kept for him.
Hubby is out giving one of his women friends a massage.
Don't ask.!!!! Lol

I am trying to get onto the Avon website to log my orders but I am not having any luck.
I have Internet Explorer 9 and Google Chrome.
Sometimes I can get into sites through one but not the other.

Viv - pleased you have an earlier appointment. I hope you get one even sooner - like this week. (Shaking my head about the massage - sigh!) It is hard to chat with my down under friends because of the time difference but I have seen friends pop up. Usually when I see a friend, I am watching TV with hubby and kids and it is not a convenient time.

Theresa: Quitting is not easy!! I did it (cold turkey) but I was not a heavy smoker. Hang in there!! You have support from LOTS of people who care about you!! A friend I know took the money he would have spent on cigarettes and put it aside in a savings account...You'd be surprised how much money you can save that way. GOOD LUCK!!

MizT should be back on the internet some time today, unless she just doesn't feel like talking to anybody. I'm still in shock over this myself. Poor Al had such a bad time with the chemo, getting pneumonia after every treatment, and now it's back. I don't think he can survive another session of it.

I've got errands to run, so I'll see y'all later. I'm STILL trying to catch someone in at the Chamber Of Commerce to sign up for the parade.

The news about Al is disheartening. There are so many people out there that are a total waste of skin. Why do horrible things have to happen to nice people?

Theresa..the only advice about the smoking cravings would be trying to distract your thoughts with something else.Keep busy somehow.
Unfortunately,I began to eat more and have put on weight.My Dr was unconcerned and said it was better than smoking.
Judy goes to Brisbane for her PET scan Mon and will know the results Tues about how the chemo is working on her leg.
Gail..what a wonderful daughter you have.
My microwave made a "Pop" sound and died this morning.I worked out it was about 26 yrs old and was one of the 1st things I bought when Renae was 9 and I went back to work. Not a bad effort.

I too have gained weight already. I seem to have replaced cigarettes with food. I hope to cut down on food next week. Because of the clogged artery and diabetes I do have to worry about too much weight gain.

Theresa.... You have to compensate by exercising more when you quit smoking. I couldn't exercise because I broke my leg, and.put on nearly 100 ibs. when I quit smoking. I can't get rid of it now, either. Sometimes I think I need to smoke again to lose this weight.

"Talked to Tricia about 1:00 today. The doc had been in & they have an appointment with the ENT doc at UAB next Thursday. Al is still scheduled to go home today, but haven't heard whether he's gotten out yet or not."

UAB is the University of Alabama- Birmingham.

I invited Don & Barb over for supper tonight. I'm making my favorite: Corned Beef and cabbage, with blintzes for dessert.

Heidi, can I come for dinner too? It sounds yummy.
