Lachlan leaves for Japan on Thursday for 2 weeks on his 'cultural exchange'. They fly into Kensai airport and spend their time in Osaka and Kyoto, going nowhere near Tokyo. The Education Department allowed the trip to go ahead - they just didn't get his Nanny's opinion (noooooo - make him stay in a padded room here where he's safe!!!). 16 kids, 4 teachers - they travel around sight-seeing for 8 days, then the kids do their 5 days home stay with Japanese families, then come home. I'm excited for him and the chance he'll be getting. I'll just be happy to see him home and safe. Obviously I'd worry less if the earthquake hadn't happened. Please keep him in your thoughts until he's back on Sept 29.

What a wonderful opportunity he has doing this, but can understand your worry. We can't wrap them in cotton wool though.
Hope he enjoys himself.
Did you hear that there had been an earthquake just off Vancouver Island at the weekend.

Morning all, coffee is ready, help yourself.

Sorry if I made everyone cry but I had to share the rainbow bridge. It seemed to fit the day.

Cyn, your grandson is getting the chance of a lifetime. He is going to have fun and he will be fine. I know you are going to worry anyways, but try not to.

Julie, I am also involved in a group " growing up in _____" and have met a lot of people I did not know. Most of them are older than me but it is fun seeing all the old pictures they have been posting. I hope you can get skype someday.

Hi everyone...the sun is shinning beautifully...looks like we will have a great day after all of the sodden weather recently. as well as the 9-11 memories.... I guess I should be better prepared for these things when we have non-stop coverage...I will never forget, but I don't need the continued replay of all that happened ...it only makes it happen again and again in my mind. I think too that money is being made from this and that doesn't sit well either. My prayers and thoughts are for all who have lost loved ones and hope they don't feel as I do. We all morn differently, and I know how important dates are mentioned but wonder if others here share my thinking...just asking....no need to reply if you wish to forgo anymore discussion about the topic.
Tami, thanks for the Skype information...good to know its not expensive to get the web-cam..just need to wait for my helper to be available to set it up and hopefully that will be this year and for my brain to work enough to absorb how to work it...I'm not the brightest one in the room although I usually don't admit it...lol.
Read everything but can't remember much more... good to see you posting again MizT and Heidi, hope you are soon feeling better...Hugs and the best of wishes to everyone...don't want to pull a Broni here...its late morning and I've had a good night's sleep..so no excuses... Peace all...have a great day/night if you can...if this isn't possible try again fist chance you get!

I didn't watch any of the 9/11 coverage. It was horrific enough when it happened. Too many politicians now use the tragedy to get votes. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I don't like jingoism.

I'm with you and Heidi, Mama - the 9/11 coverage was all day long, as well as some the day before getting a jump start. We all remember in our own way and I see no need to have 24 hour coverage.

Heidi, for some reason it wouldn't let me post this morning. DON'T THEY KNOW WHO I AM????? teehee

Hi, I'm with you on the coverage of 9/11. We seemed to have a week of it on TV over here and of course the 'as it happened' coverage too. It was a terrible thing and will never be forgotten. I didn't watch, but can remember the live coverage on the day.

CynB, wishing your son a safe and fun trip, Will be thinking of him. Japan is a beautiful country and only a small part was devastated by the earthquake.

Brenda, no I did not hear of the earthquake in Vancover. I need to check, I have friends near there. Was it a big one? Any injuries?

There are a couple of things Al needs to do, and he is putting them off. It is like pushing a chain. I must get creative and geet him going in right direction. He started out so well, doing everything on schedule, and it lasted 2 and a half days! Heidi? might I borrow your cattle prod? Just for the one that is absolute necessity, the optional ones we can get to later.

This morning I did rip out a pair of winter pants I took up last winter, after I lost weight. somehow, it has all found me again, bummer.

Break time over, back to doing something constructive.
Hugs till later.

Mama, I couldn't agree more, it is terribly sad, and there are families who will never be able to get over this, but I certainly don't need it rehashed over and over again. Hopefully this 10th year commemoration will be the last. Beth came out last weekend (when they started showing different shows about it) asking if I had seen the one that was currently on. I told her I am not watching any of them, and she proceeded to tell me in graphic detail about it. I have always been of the belief if someone feels the need to talk I must listen, but in the end I had to stop her, it was replaying in my head. She was too young for it to have impacted her when she was 11, now at 21 it was having a devastating reaction.
As with all mourning we, the living, must move on.

I agree, there is no need to replay the video of the events of 9/11, and no need for 24 hour coverage. Local news, a bit about local ceremonies, national news, a sound bite from ground zero, and lets all take a moment of silence to remember. I do not need graphic reminders, families of those lost do not need grahic reminders. It is like living that day again, no thank you. I did not watch any of the coverage.

Evening all. Testing day at school today. I tested a group of 7th graders. We are testing our 2nd period and that is my planning period. It went well. I will test them again tomorrow for math, today was reading. It is a county pretest and will be redone in a few months to track progress and see what they need before the big test in April.
