I really must look at numbers, I seem to get a TOPP without knowing it.

As I grow to understand life less and less,
I learn to love it more and more.

Rolanda, I was hoping to hear good news about your mom - sorry to hear she is not well. {{HUGS}}

Viv, hope your appointment next week goes smoothly and your pain will soon be a thing of the past! I will be thinking of you.

Happy birthday wishes going out to Gail's "little ones".

D will not be coming home today. Her doctor said she could come home, but the nurse said she has not met all of the release parameters yet, so she will probably go home tomorrow.

Brenda, I've seen your knitting on FB and it's beautiful, and you finish things so quickly!!! I still have a bunch of stuff on the go, but I haven't been able to work on it because of the pain in my arm and shoulder. Some day ...... sigh.

More about Al and hospice.

Julie, being a nurse, I was aware of hospice and what they did. My Mom had hospice for 18 months, while she was in assisted living, so I have first hand knowledge of how they work. They were wonderful with Mom and helped us a lot too understand the stages a terminal patient goes through and how to help.

I have had a phone call this morning from the nurse. They are making medication changes. They were not happy his pain levels never went below a 5, so he will be on methadone (the medicine for pain that Heidi takes) given every 6 hours, to keep the pain under control, and then he has medicine to take between if that is not sufficient. They want his pain levels after treatment to be down to a 2 or 3, at least, but aiming for no pain.

They changed his nausea medicine, this one will not make his limbs jump and he is encouraged to take it to keep down nausea after eating.

they increased his acid blocker medicine, hoping that will stop the acid reflux and encourage him to eat more.

boy they are on the ball, so far I am very pleased with them. I can go pick up these medications at noon at my regular pharmacy. And there will be no charge.

Since the addition of the methadone every 6 hours, they want him to use a walker going to bathroom, and he has agreed. Now to see if he really will We are using my walker, they would get him one, but where in this crowded house would I put TWO??? I do not need it inside, and if we are both out where I might need it (hospital or doctor's office), he would be in a wheel chair. So this will work for now.

Time to do a few chores before going to the store and pharmacy. My pain levels are better today, but I did have a hard time getting to sleep last night, I feel a nap coming on for later today.

Hugs to each of you, I will catch you again later, and get to comment on the posts I have read. Hugs to each of you, with extras. Till later.

MizT.... Thank you for your post. It filled in a lot of details that the one I posted did not contain. I can't imagine what both you and Al are going through right now. At least you have good, trained help now to keep Al comfortable.

I was planning on the 2 trail rides this weekend, but my back decided that it's not going to happen. My brain wants to do it, but the back says that I'd end up in the ER.

I do have to get on my tractor now and move hay. I was hoping I could rest, but IH isn't around to do it, and he's not allowed to use my tractor. His tractor hasn't run in 2 years, and he has no interest in getting it fixed.

Hi all. Sorry I did not get here this morning with coffee but I do have a pot available now.

Tricia, my thoughts are with you and Al. I am glad that hospice came in to help. It will take some of the burden off you and give Al a better quality of life.

Heidi, I have her address somewhere but if you could send it to me, I would appreciate it.

Hello to everyone I did not mention by name. I am leaving in a few minutes to go to Dylan's ball game. He is now the team catcher. My niece is coming to watch. She is in college and was supposed to do homework all day. She called this morning saying it is such a beautiful day she did not want to stay in all day. This is her excuse to get out. We actually have the windows open. Highs are in the 80's and low's in the 60's.

It's right before Hallowe'en. This time of year Robert works in a Haunted House in Louisville. ..... with a chainsaw. Supposedly, he scares the bejesus out of people. But even if he wasn't there, he doesn't work on weekends here.
Anyhoo, the hay is moved and the cows have been fed. Now I can knock myself out with painkillers if I want to.

Tami... catcher was always my favorite position in baseball. You're in every play, you have to be quick and bright, and you only have to throw within the infield. Go, Dylan!!!!!

Heidi, did you not tell us before that you must go pick up your prescription for Methadone? And they would not give prescription or medication to anyone else? Al's script was faxed to pharmacy, and I went to pick it up, no problem. Perhaps it is because it is hospice? No way Al or most people under Hospice care could get out and go get it. I do know when his doc was writing scripts for him, we had to pick up Percoset script, but not Lortab, that is why we were using lortab for pain, so I did not have to drive to get the prescription. Anyhow, just wondering about your meds.

That's good news that you don't have to go pick up the methadone scrips the way I do. It must be a hospice thing. Which is very good.

Hospice care sounds like a marvellous godsend for you right now MizT. It sounds like they have taken over and Al is in good hands. I love it when a person is treated as a whole, not just one drug after another, which is all a doctor can do really, it seems hospice are looking at the effect of one drug on another etc ♥

Broni broke it this time!

I need to spend tomorrow getting the whelping box set up for Angel to have her puppies. I've got to move some stuff around in the sun room to make more room for it. It's a convenient place for pups, with a concrete floor still, and a gate to keep Angel and the pups on one side and the other dogs on the other. It also lets out into the back lawn to start housebreaking.

Hi, Everybody! I'm going to try to save comments occasionally while I type tonight to avoid losing a long one.

MizT, thinking of you and Al and hoping the additional help makes things easier for you and Al! Also hoping the oxygen is helping him to be more comfortable! {{{HUGS}}} and positive thoughts!

Rolanda, I hope your Mum is doing better! Is she still getting oxygen? Have doctors started talking about leaving the hospital yet? I hesitate to use the H word. {{{HUGS}}} and positive thoughts! So sorry for your friend Sue and her family, but so glad both she and her brother got to the hospital on time. RIP, Mrs. K.! Happy Birthday to Peter! Will you be enjoying liquid refreshment from the "Golden Hamper"?

Broni, I hope the wedding was perfect for Teresa's daughter! I'm sure if anything wasn't absolutely perfect, there was only a minor glitch which no one noticed!

Heidi, I hope your back is better and the lurgy is gone! I'm thinking it might be helpful to remember to eat a bit every couple of hours.

Theresa, I hope your shoulders and back are better! Thinking healing thoughts for your D!

Viv, have a safe trip, enjoy your visit with your brother & his family, and hoping for good news that will provided relief for your back! (A thought just occurred to me. Do you suppose you're holding any stress or anger there?) What a great Avon order! I hope you'll be feeling much better when it comes time to deliver it!

Happy 48th anniversary, June and Ken!

Gail, Happy Birthday to Chloe and Jed! Good luck with tests to Hannah! Was thinking you might become a lady of leisure, until you mentioned painting the house and getting back into the garden.

Nola, how are things going with you and your family! Will we see a picture of your haircut? Will it be a new style?

Cyn, will you show us a picture of your new pink and purple glasses when you get them? So good to hear that you just are experiencing the post-50 slow deterioraton which my eye doctor says afflicts everyone.

Brenda, how soon until you leave for your vacation? I hope you have perfect weather and a wonderful visit!

Theresa and Suzy, we haven't had an update on the number of smoke-free days recently, have we?

Suzy, what a great idea to have some homework time every day, whether there's an assignment or not. (As I recall, I don't think our Ds ever had a homework-free day while in high school. They could always expect at least one teacher to lay it on heavy.)

RIP Tante Dora! Thinking of you and your family, Theresa. Happy Birthday to your MIL!

Heidi, congratulations on the new budgie babies!

MizT, I'm so glad that hospice care can be put in place so quickly! Doesn't it make you wonder why the primary care physicians and specialists aren't able to do the same? Sending prayers and positive thoughts your way!

Now let's see if I can get this to post wi

Brenda, both your unintentional TOPP and your intended TOPP were great!

MizT, what wonderful news to hear how quickly the hospice program is taking over and acting on Al's needs! I don't understand why "regular" doctors aren't concerned when people remain constantly in pain! I am so glad you made the decision, and I'll be Al is as things improve a bit for him!

Tami, I hope Dylan's baseball game went well and he enjoyed being the catcher! Your temperatures sound wonderful. No wonder your niece wanted to play hookey from her studying!

Just thought I would mention that our high temperatures have been in the low to mid-60's. Since the outdoor pool is still open at our health club (first time they've kept it open in Oct.), and since the past two days have been sunny with only a slight breeze today, I played hookey too. Class was in the indoor pool, and I just couldn't let the chance to be outside slip away. Yesterday I stayed inside for class (only one other person) then went to the outdoor pool for 15 or 20 minutes. Today I spent just over an hour in the outdoor pool. It's a little cool, but so wonderful to be outside under a blue sky!

Heidi, I'm glad you were able to move the hay and get the cows fed! I hope your back pain didn't flare up while you were doing it. Yikes! Robert in a haunted house with a chain saw? No thanks!

June, I'm glad your knee held up with all of your walking! I hope it was a beautiful sunrise over Angkor Wat! I can't wait to see your photos when you get back!

Gail, you really hit the nail on the head! Too many doctors treat symptoms, not PEOPLE! Hospice seems to look at the big picture.

Oh, Broni! Giggling bride, bridesmaids, hairdresser and makeup artist! I hope you were able to get through all that excitement!

Heidi, will IH be around long enough to help set up the whelping box? When do you think the puppies might come?

I'm not sure if it's a good thing that D is coming home from the hospital, Theresa. At least while she was there, she had nurses and orderlies taking care of her. And they could make her do the exercises that she's supposed to do.

Good Afternoon all.
I have the blahs today...tummy ache, headache, etc...not sure why, but hope it passes soon. There are too many things coming up and I don't function well when I don't feel well. DIL and family expected anytime within the next week or two, hosting a meeting at my home on Wednesday,a funeral on Friday...and a doggie test for Jazz when I can fit it in...missed church today and slept for several hours, so perhaps I've headed off the worst.
Heidi, thanks for the pm...will get the card off for Al tomorrow.
Vi,June, Rola,Heidi, Theresa, MizT and anyone else I may have missed who are undergoing such busy times and dealing with illness and pain, extra prayers and healing vibes are winging your way.
I do hope all will have a more comfortable, pain-free period following what has been a very difficult time for far too many of you. (((((HUGS))))).♥♥

Oh, no Mamacita. You don't need the Lurgy!

(ps.... for those of you who aren't familiar with the term "Lurgy", it comes from an old British radio show called "The Goon Show". It starred Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers and Harry Secombe.... and for the first 2 years only, Michael Bentine. All of the great comic geniuses were inspired by The Goons such as Monty Python and Robin Willians, and they paved the way for all comedy in the past 60 years. I listen to their recordings regularly, especially when I need to be cheered.)

Greetings friends. Al had a bad night, well, early morning, and therefore i was up with him. We called the hospice nurse at 7 am, could not get nausea and vomiting under control with the new med. They had us go back to the old one, which did the trick. About 11 am, all his medications kicked in, I think and he slept till almost 5. Even let me give him gatoraide via his tube without really waking up. I have napped when I could since 3 am, still sleepy. It ws good have someone to call, what she had us do ws what I would have done, if they were not available, but good to know I waas thinking correctly. Gave him the first dose of morphine, because he threw up his pain medication. The morphine does not go to stomach, it is sub-lingual, under the tongue. He sure looks better after his long sleep.

Lovely fall day here, I enjoyed sitting on the porch talking to BIL. He came down to help out some, I asked for help with getting clothes folded, they were backed up and together we got all but the load in the dryer put away.

Timer going off in the kitchen, I am working on flinging food for 2 tonight. A hamburger mac skillet dinner and steamed veggies. Banana nut bread for desert. Ok, I bought it, marked down, at grocery yesterday, but still we have desert

Hugs to each of you, with extras. till later

Heidi - I grew up on a steady diet of the Goon Show, not that I appreciated it at the time. It was only as I grew up that I got the humour in it. My Dad loved it. It was definately his idea of humour.

Hi all. Just checking in after a busy day. Mitchell finally got all his homework done and ready to turn in tomorrow. Ran a few errands with hubby. Watched the Dolphins play football. The were winning 15-0 in the 4th quarter and blew it. They ended up losing 18-15 with the game going into overtime. They are the only professional team to ever have a perfect season. They went 17-0 in 1972. It looks like they will be 0-16 this season. I am shutting down soon. Will see you all in the morning.

Air-con man is here now. All fixed - would you believe it was a gecko got zapped behind the zone pad which shorted it out. He's servicing everything and then all that remains is the bill because, of course, the warranty ran out in March this year. Wouldn't you know it??
