Morning all. Coffee is ready, help yourself. Gotta run. Had too much fun on the other site (it is all Gail's fault). See you later.

Yay Cyn! I am still deciding whether I want one or not... I think your new DIL to be sounds wonderful and your son's decision to propose when she has been so ill is a really hopeful sign for their future...

MizT, I'd add driving or living near the freeways.. The amount you smoked, for the time you smoked, it doesn't seem fair that you are paying so dearly.

Dana doesn't want me to do anything, but I'm tempted to anyway..

I think Belinda picked about 3 buckets of peaches today. We stewed about 2 bucket at her place and I have done another bucket tonight. I love stewed peaches and cream!
Mamacita, thank you for your story. How wonderful that you are still able to enjoy life after all those medical dramas. My Dad died from emphysema 26 years ago but I had not heard the term COPD.
HUGS to you all I am tired and off to bed.

Cyn, you snuck in. I also buy ventolin about once every 3 or 4 years - because the old one has expired. Good for you, I bet that doc never said that again!

June, I have about a half a bucket full of not quite ripe peaches that I brought home from Mum's that I'm wondering what to do with. I have never stewed fruit.

Suzy, I take it she has an idea who has the phone? Someone must have known she had put it in for repairs. She should be eligible for legal aid if you need to talk to someone in that field.

June, nobody knows who has the phone, just that a male voice answered when the police called the number. They arranged for it to be blocked or Optus might be expecting her to pay for calls too!

Gail, it's 'cause you're such a trouble-maker, just like Tami!!

Suzy... you could use some legal advice. If Dana objects, explain that that's money being taken from her baby's care. What male knew the phone was there, and is a loser??? The Sperm Donor! That's why she doesn't want a lawyer involved.

Good Afternoon All,
Suzy, I stopped smoking when I was about 52 0r 53...several years before my complete respiratory shut down, but the damage was done.I had to have been a non-smoker for at least two years or they would not have accepted me for the surgery. I hope you all know that by sharing my experience I in no way meant to tell others not to smoke or that smoking is bad...it's a habit that I enjoyed for many years, but did cause me to suffer from it...not all do! I really agree that the victim of COPD is often 'blamed' for causing his/her illness, but don't agree. I'm glad you told that silly , judgmental doctor who didn't want to treat you because she felt you had caused your illness off Cyn. Good for you!
Addiction to smoking, or any other addiction that is said to cause certain illnesses, is an unknown when one starts...no one sets out to hurt themselves with their experimentation, and many who indulge in the same action or habit for years have no physical problems. Many people drink or smoke, for example, and don't suffer from alcoholism or lung problems. My mother never smoked , yet died of a lung ailment from fibers in the air as she worked as a seamstress...who knew??? Industrial waste and other contaminants do more than their share of damage...yet pollution continues in many areas.
So for those of you who smoke and have no problems...enjoy...for those who may be feeling some affects...or wish to stop for any other reason, I'm here to cheer you on....we each are different in our response to things and we should do that which we find joyful....life is to be enjoyed after all...just pay attention to your body and do the best to keep living while you are alive! Some do everything right and still suffer unfortunately...that's life...we don't always reap what we sow...God is still in control of our world, and he has given us free will to do what please us, but the final decision is HIS!

Suzy...as far as the missing phone, I agree with Julie that it would do good to make a public case if you have access to that type of resource...letters to the editor of newspapers, a newspaper help program or the like. Perhaps a direct request from the shop who wrongfully released the phone with a possible threat of a lawsuit, prior to actually hiring a lawyer may help...its really unfair. Hope you can get them to help!
Lots more I had wanted to say, but have now forgotten...so , have a great day one and all. Peace.

The snow has started. It's coming down hard even though the temperature is still a couple of degrees above freezing. Within the hour, all of the stuff on the ground will turn to ice. Unfortunately, I have to go back out there in a few and start up with the hay. I need to take the auger off the tractor first, and that'll be a bear by myself.

Hey all. Heidi, it is freezing rain here and snow is starting to be mixed in with it. School busses were cancelled today.

Is it my imagination or has it been a while since Rolanda has posted? I have been missing myself quite often, so maybe I just missed something?

It has been 5 and a half months since I quit smoking and I still get strong cravings, especially after supper. Starting this week I am cutting back on food because I gained so much weight while quitting. All in all I feel like a big ball of yuck right now, and I mean "big"!

Off to read some more. Take care everyone ....

I quit smoking in 1999 (after 28 years of smoking up to 2 packs a day) right after I broke my leg for the first time. Fortunately, I have no residual problems from it (the smoking, not the broken leg).

Teresa, Rolanda is on holiday, she left just before Xmas for nearly a month long break.
We have been very lucky so far it has been very mild, though I think temps are suppose to drop tonight.I've just checked the forecast and tomorrows temp is supposed to be half that of todays, dropping down to 5C. I'll have to put a coat on tomorrow when I go out.
Joseph-Alexander is now back home with his family, hopefully no more problems for him.

Gil is not happy. His goats that he keeps at his cousin's place have been out of control, and we've been inundated with calls about them being out on the road. So he decided to move them back here today. While he was loading some up in the trailer, he witnessed one of his Great Pyrenees guard dogs (he has them to protect the sheep and goats from predator attacks) attack and kill several of his sheep and goats. The dog that did it was the dog he had been trying to persuade me to get so I wouldn't have to sell my sheep. The problem with the Great Pyrenees dogs is that people have been over breeding them and selling them as guard dogs, whether or not they have the instinct. This breed has been pretty much ruined here for guarding because of this. The dogs IH has he got free. He was too cheap to go to a reputable breeder and get a dog that was selected for generations to be a good livestock guard dog. He got what he paid for.

Afternoon all. I am back after a crazy day at school.

Gail, I blamed you for making our words with friends game so interesting. As soon as I would play a word, you would play yours and I would feel guilty if I left you hanging (that's my story and I'm sticking with it)

I could also end up a "victim" of COPD from breathing in the 2nd hand smoke of my father.

Heidi, serves Gil right but you are going to end up paying the price.

Suzy, I agree. Dana needs to take legal action. It sounds like something the sperm donor would do and it is money away from the baby.

I believe that cigarette smoke gets blamed for all of the damage caused by factories and trucks pumping out clouds of toxic chemicals into our environment. Cigarettes don't cause smog. It's easier to blame the victims, and claim they did it to themselves by smoking, than to blame major industry for killing so many people.

Heidi have you ever thought of Llamas as guards for your stock. It is quite common over here to see them amongst sheep as they will attack preying dogs etc. Richard would love to have a Llama.

The Vet has suggested to IH that they put down the two killer Pyrs (brothers). I've suggested the same thing. Nobody needs 125 pound dogs that kill for the fun of it. IH says that the decision is Don's since the dogs belong to him, and Don wants to place them in pet homes. I think that dogs that kill sheep and goats could attack a child. IH is still very shaken up after seeing the attack. He's with the sheep now, patching up and treating the wounded ones. The Vet told him what to do and what to use.

Llamas are great guard animals against one predator. If there are more than one predator, they eat the llama. The coyotes around here attack in large packs and no llama can stand up to them. I've tried llamas, without success.

The solution is guard dogs, but dogs from a responsible breeder who selects for guarding instinct and ability. Ideally, you get a young dog that has been started with livestock already. IH had one super guard dog (as a 6 month old puppy, Rocky killed a mountain lion by himself) but he didn't get along with other dogs. Instead of using him only, he penned up Rocky and let less skilled dogs do the work. So I convinced him to give Rocky to a friend who had been losing goats to a neighbor's pack of dobermans. The first doberman that started to come through the fence was found in pieces on both sides of the fence. Same with a coyote that tried that. As long as they had livestock, they never lost another animal.

I couldn't have Rocky here, because he would have considered the collies as a threat. It would not have been fun.

I've tried to convince IH to get an Anatolian Shepherd instead of the Great Pyrenees. They're considered one of the best breeds for guarding livestock, and a friend of mine breeds some excellent ones. They're not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Hi all!
Suzy, was it Optus who fixed the phone? If they gave it to the wrong owner then they are liable and Dana shouldn't have to pay to finish the contract. If that's the case, then tell them you are going to contact the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman. Optus will soon come to the party. Apparently everytime the TIA deals with a phone company they get fined, so the phone companys very quickly sort it out. If they don't sort it out then contact the TIA.

Broni, I'll raise my glass for JD.

Cyn, I received my early birthday present yesterday. I bought a Kindle (the cover with the light will arrive in a weeks time). I downloaded some free books last night. I'm quite enjoying it. My next thing will be learning how to convert other books into kindle format but a lot of that seems to be covered in the forum on kindle. It's certainly a learning phase.

I'm having a day off today. I woke up at 9:50 this morning! I can't remember the last time I slept that late. I'm still sitting here in my nighie drinking my second cuppa.
Hubby has just gone into the shower, so I suppose I'd better get a move on.
Have a wonderful day everyone!

With that, I am off to bed. Will tuck myself in and watch some tv. I tend to fall asleep quicker with the tv on.

Happy Birthday JD!! <3 <3 <3

Just a quick drop in. Dana has been admitted to hospital because this way she doesn't have to pay for the ultrasound they want her to have because the baby is too small. We have a history of small babies so I think everything will be okay, but better safe than sorry. I'm about to take up her reading glasses and a bacon and egg sandwich.

Vicki - I won't officially get mine until Monday but I know he bought a cover with a light. I've been reading up on it and my BIL has the same one so hopefully I'll work it out quickly - meantime I have 2 real books to finish - don't ask why I start one and then start another, I do it often.

Don has decided to do the right thing. I don't think that he and Barb could have lived with themselves if either of those 2 dogs injured or killed a child, much less someone's beloved pet. I'll be digging a deep hole with the tractor this weekend.

Suzy, I am not a lawyer (but I play on on TV hehehe) But that would not stand in the USA.The phone company cannot be party to both sides, or ALL business law would be written that way.

That said, they can TRY to collect both sides and if customers pay it, the company has done no harm. I think you need the original contract to see what Dana or whomever signed. Police will only do so much, you gonna have to do it, find out the details, put facts in front of a judge. Phone Co is hoping most people will not take the time to bother!! That is about how it could be done here. It is not ethical, but it may be legal. Wish I could come help ya, I m ll primed for a fight and not an enemy in sight.

I have left a big block of posts unread above. I hope to get to them later. I wish I could answer them from my phone but I did not spring for a new phone that was smarter than I am. I am having a rather large meal, considering I must not eat again till tests are over, sometimes mid morning. Until pain meds start to take effect, you are stuck with me.

Looks like there are several things going on, an by time I can post again, will be old news, so just hang in there everyone, and accept my prayers, wishes going out in general, reach out and take what you need.

Greetings, Everyone!

Suzy, as I agree with Gail and Cyn that you ought to consult an attorney, I'm wondering if the company will make things right if you tell them you will be consulting an attorney. I keep thinking about them turning over the phone to the wrong person. Don't they check identification? It sure would seem like someone knew it was there for repairs and took advantage of the situation. Good luck!

Cyn, you're so right! Doesn't seem possible the new DIL-to-be could be any worse than the ex, who seems totally clueless and incompetent. I'm sure she'll be a huge improvement!

Cyn, great idea for a birthday gift! Did you peek?

June, the peaches sound wonderful! Now I'm hungry for fresh peaches, and they won't be in season until our summer! Darn!

Tami, thanks for the TOPP with coffee!

Heidi, I hope you were able to remove the auger by yourself without injury and get the livestock fed! I've been a big baby and didn't go outside at all today, but have heard that it's very slippery, as we also had rain which froze before the snow arrived.

Theresa, good for you for holding your ground and staying away from the cigarettes! Five and a half months is great! Keep up the good work!

Brenda, I'm so glad Joseph-Alexander has been able to go home again! I hope he and his family don't have any more scares!

Heidi, what a shame that some sheep and goats were killed by the "guard" dog! Pardon me for saying this, but my guess is that having the sheep and goats back on your farm will mean more work and worry for YOU! Part of allowing them back should include requiring IH to PURCHASE some REAL guard dogs! The Anatolian Shepherds your friend breeds sound like a good solution. (Sorry, but I can be very opinionated when I think a friend is being taken advantage of and treated unfairly!)

Heidi, you have a very good point about the factories and trucks belching out noxious and dangerous chemicals and fumes. Of course it's much easier to blame the patient than big business who can pay slick attorneys to PROVE that it has nothing to do with their companies and policies.

Broni, raising my glass to JD! Happy Birthday!

Vicki, enjoy your new Kindle - and your day off! A good sleep-in is necessary every now and then, don't you think?

Mama, I'll keep my glass handy and toast Sully on the 16th! (My Dad's birthday was on the 10th, so we have a lot of Capricorns!

Suzy, I hope all is well with Dana and the baby! I wonder if they suspect that she hasn't been getting enough nutrition. Hopefully you are right, and it's just that your family tends to have small babies!

Heidi, I'm glad Don and Barb have made the right decision, though I'm sure it was hard for them!

Suzanne, I hope it's true that Candy Jo is doing OK! I hope Helen can clarify things when you see her tomorrow!

I really need to get to bed tonight! Somehow we need to find a way to really get rid of the germs that have been assaulting us for a month. Feel free
