At Belinda's place. Did a lot of work in her 'garden' yesterday. ie removing geraniums and daisies that had grown in gaps in the concrete and grass that had grown over paths etc. Hard work! slept with Laura and three dogs last night so not a good nights sleep!
Off to the hard ware store soon when Belinda has finished riding her horses. Need some things to do some repairs.
Heidi can you put in a concrete pipe, like in a culvert, to keep the way open to your back area.
Will catch up with you all later.

June... the problem is that there was a culvert there, with a pipe, so we has a place to drive over. No problem, no erosion. The GD neighbors decided to put in a second driveway to their farm, along our property line, with another culvert under their driveway, that drained out next to the previous culvert, washing out everything covering our pipe. We have to keep adding gravel now, around the pipe every time there has been a heavy rain. Today we had a meter wide and deep crevasse around that drain pipe which couldn't be driven across. The only permanent solution, now, is to make a concrete bridge what can't wash out. It's dry enough today for the cement mixer to drive back there, but it's supposed to rain a lot tomorrow.... and back to square one hauling gravel.

Heidi, I agree. Love the song, and the lyrics. John Lennon was definitely a talent taken way too soon.

Imagine all the people living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace

You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world

You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Oh Tami... what an absolute hoot!! Wicked! Love it.
Trisha I am very interested in your recliner... have never actually managed to get comfortable on one. Most chairs, lounges etc project my head too far forward for it to be comfortable.. my enlarged thyroid will usually finds me most comfortable with my neck / head extended backwards.

Writing that comment has just made me think, again, about what an amazing group we are. Where else can one find so many of their friends together in one place?

Hi,
Tami..John Lennon wrote some beautiful lyrics, my favorite was "Woman". He must have loved her so much and Yoko must have been devastated when he died.
Sometimes,we would have fish and chips in the car in Adelaide when the kids were little and it was too hot or windy on the beach. The kids would laugh when seagulls tried to eat the chips through the glass windscreen. We would watch the sun set in the west over the water, which was never possible when living in NSW or Qld.

Julie..your life is so busy like many others here. Hope you are well also.

Bean..hope it doesn't take you as long to post as it does me. Know the feeling about losing one and I just give up too. How is your foot now..still improving?

Morning all. Coffee is ready, help yourself.

Today starts the big state test. Dylan will be testing most of the week, Mitchell just today and maybe tomorrow. Each grade is slightly different. Dylan has reading, math and science. Mitchell just reading. Math and science for high school are now end-of-course exams. More approptiate I feel. 7th grade, what I teach, has reading today and tomorrow and math wednesday. My wonderful state, with all their infinite wisdom, allows to 60 minute reading sessions, one per day. Math is two 70 minute sessions, given back to back. Any wonder why I really hate these tests.

The test is called "FCAT" which stands for Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test. I prefer to think of it as the "Full of Crap Assessment Test."

Raining today. Drat. No fence work will be done. Plus, IH isn't going to the plant for the next few days because his truck is acting up. And I will NOT lend him mine.

Rain showers, off and on the last 2 hours. I sat on back porch a while, till the smell and pollen from privet hedge drove me inside. Noxious weeds! birds love them, they have berries. birds eat, seeds pass through. become surrounded by fertilizer and instantly grow where they are dropped, MORE privet hedge. Did I say I do not like privet hedge???

I had to look up privet hedge, MizT. Apparently they are quite a popular type of hedge, especially for formal gardens. Wouldn't work for me then.

Sorry you won't have any alone time, Heidi.

I have never known privet hedges to have berries or flowers, so I looked it up on google. They only flower if they are not kept trimmed. It is a popular hedging evergreen plant here in the UK.

Gail, saying the acronym quickly is exactly how I feel about the test. I am a lucky mom. Both my boys take tests well. They don't get nervous. Mithcell has gotten a perfect score in math twice and Dylan did it once(so far).

Brenda, here they grow wild, are about 16-20 feet tall and sprawling. Very unkept. In the southeast, there is no need to buy privet, they come up everywhere you do not want them. I could not find any photos of them growing wild, just the nicely pruned formal hedges you speak of.

Just got an update from Michella.

"Hi Tami, so far she is good and stable. So far weaning is going well. I am on my way to see her in a fer minutes."

Sounds good so far. I am sure Mama can feel the love circling her around the world.

Next time I visit you, MizT, point some out to me. I'd love to dig some up and plant them here. They would make nice windbreaks and privacy screens.

I have a shocker! IH just went out the door to go talk to someone who welds aluminum!!! Two days ago, IH, and his cousin Don, approached me and asked me if they could borrow my small livestock trailer. I gave them a resounding NO! and explained to Don that IH had broken the trailer the last time he used it, and it was unusable. Because of that, IH had lost the right to ever use it again. I suspect that Don said something to him afterwards. He's now acting like he will get the trailer fixed!

Heidi, I will see if there are any tiny hedge seedlings, I think I know where some are. If so I can dig up and mail you some bare root. they would survive. Otherwise, I could send berries in fall, and you cold plant those. Yes, they would provide a nice windbreak. You would just have to put up with 2-3 weeks of a sickeningly sweet smell of the blooms every year. Some people like the smell. Of course you are elcome to come dig some any time you want, would love to see you again.

Some bright spark brought privet to Australia, along with rabbits, foxes and other things that have become pests. Belinda has thousands of privet trees growing along her creek. Ken keeps trying to cut them back towards the creek and poisoning the roots. They are known to cause asthma and hay fever when they flower in the spring. I must take a photo and post it when I get back home (tomorrow night)
